  • The estuary has a very complex coastline and bottom topography. Before the close of floodgate, the Keum river estuary was deposited with sediment from the Keum river, created bythe construction of the Keum river estuary dike. So, a periodical dredging is necessary to assure water depth for boat entry and departure to Kunsan port. Theof this study is to find the change of tidal current of M2tide and the topography before and after construction at the Geum River estuary dike. The change of water depth is investigated by digitizing the sea map (No.305) of Kunsan port, which was edited by National Oceanographic Research Institute. The calculated co-range and co-tidal charts of M2tide before the dike construction are similar to the observed ones. Therefore, the amplitude and phase after construction at Geum River estuary dike increases compared to before construction at Geum River estuary dike. The scour occurred in the A-A' section.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide a base line data to improve the water quality in the Yeongsan River basin. As the major factor that affects the water quality of Yeongsan River is nonpoint pollution source, in order to find a resolve to improve the quality, a study was conducted to identify the correlation between the stream water quality and that of the land use. The study showed that the concentration of the contents in the water from the agricultural land environment was found to be higher as oppose to that found in the content of the water from the forest land. As a result, it can be deducted that agricultural land deteriorates water quality whereas that of the forest land is of much better quality. Therefore, it is highly recommended to take advanced improved care of agricultural land close to a water source to improve the quality of Yeongsan River basin.

  • The study is focused on the analysis of geomorphological environment changes of alluvial bar in lower Kum river using satellite-based multitemporal/multisensor data. Landsat datas for environment changes analysis consists of Landset MSS(2 scenes) and Landset TM(7 scenes) acquired from 1979 to 1994. This study is to develop the analysis techniques for the environment change detection of using ratio, classification, false color composite etc, of Landsat data especially useful to the geomorphological study of tidal flats and river channels. The results of this study can be summarized as follows : 1. The lower Kum River alluvial bar have had rapid geomorphological changes after the construction of the temporary dam to block the river flowing in 1983. The most alluvial bar located in the river has both bankway growth, especially the allurival bar in the Lower Kum River had grown between 1983 to 1990. 2. After construction of the estuarine barrage, no remarkable geomorphological changes have been found in Kum River area but the growth and formation of new underwater bar has continued. The enormous materials was needed for the growth and formations of new underwater barrier oslands and bar would be supplied from the sea bottom and river sediment to diminish of stream velocity after construction of the estuarine barrage.

  • An investigation of grain size, organic compounds and metal distribution in lakes from Geum river basin (Republic of Korea) was conducted in two years (2014 and 2015). The samples of sediment were collected from the 3 lakes (12 sites). The samples were analyzed the concentration of metals (Pb, Zn, Cu, Cr, Ni, As, Cd, Hg, Al, and Li) and general indices including grain size. Spearman correlation coefficients were determined using general indices and metal concentrations respectively. The organic qualities of sediments were improved in 2015 compared with 2014. The concentrations of metals were lower than Sediment Criteria of Lakes in Korea. The significant Spearman correlation coefficients were presented only sand-clay, clay-water content, COD-TOC, Cu-Ni, Cd-Li, Zn-Li, and Cr-Ni of general and metal parameters in 2014, 2015 and both of two years.

  • This paper proposes a two-stage Water Shield Automation System (WSAS) to predict the possibility of river overflow and vehicle flooding due to sudden rainfall. The WSAS uses a two-stage Deep Neural Network (DNN) model. First, a river overflow prediction module is designed with LSTM to decide whether the river is flooded by predicting the river's water level rise. Second, a vehicle flooding prediction module predicts flooding of underground parking lots by detecting flooded tires with YOLOv5 from CCTV images. Finally, the WSAS automatically installs the water barrier whenever the river overflow and vehicle flooding events happen in the underground parking lots. The only constraint to implementing is that collecting training data for flooded vehicle tires is challenging. This paper exploits the Image C&S data augmentation technique to synthesize flooded tire images. Experimental results validate the superiority of WSAS by showing that the river overflow prediction module can reduce RMSE by three times compared with the previous method, and the vehicle flooding detection module can increase mAP by 20% compared with the naive detection method, respectively.

  • In this study is aerial photos and UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) images were used to analyzed the characteristics of depositional landform changes in the Geum river channels before and after the opening gate of Gongju weir. Based on the depositional landform classification result, the main stream and the bare land occupied most of the area in all periods, and also found that the main stream, mid-channel island, and sand bar occupied a greater degree of area increase or decrease compared to other landforms in the classification items. As a result of analyzing the characteristics of depositional landform changes before and after the opening gate of Gongju weir, it is judged that the depositional landforms have changed due to the decreased water level of the Geum river after the opening of the weir, the summer rainy season and typhoons, river stabilization after the effluence of Daecheong dam, supply and deposition of river sediments and fixation of vegetation. The results derived from this study can be used as basic data for the study of river depositional landforms and the establishment of management and conservation plans for the landforms in river channels.

  • There has been continuous efforts to manage water resources for the required water quality criterion at river channel in Korea. However, we could obtain the partial improvement only for the point sources such as, waste waters from urban and factory site through the water quality management. Therefore, it is strongly needed that the best management practice throughout the river basin fur water quality management including non-point sources pollutant loads. This problem should be resolved by recognizing the non-point sources pollutant loads from the upstream river basin to the outlet of the basin depends on the landuse and soil type characteristics of the river basin using the computer simulation by a distributed model based on the detailed investigation and application of Geographic Information System (GIS). The purpose of this study is consisted of the three major distributions, which are the investigation of spread non-point sources pollutants throughout the river basin, development of the base maps to represent and interpret the input and outputs of the distributed simulation model, and prediction of non-point sources pollutant loads at the outlet of a up-stream river basin using Agricultural Non-Point Sources Model (AGNPS). For the validation purpose, the Seom-Jin River basin was selected with two flood events in 1998. The results of this application showed that the use of combined a distributed model and an application of GIS was very effective fur the best water resources and quality management practice throughout the river basin
