  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between early childhood caries(ECC) and breastfeeding. Methods : Data of 670 children were derived from the Forth Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2007 to 2009. Demographic and socioeconomic data, oral health related behavior, and breastfeeding practice data were collected as independent variables. The ECC was used as a dependent variable. The chi-square test and logistic regression analysis were performed to identify the relationship between ECC and the other variables. Results : Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that ECC was related with age, tooth brushing frequency, and breastfeeding practice. Conclusions : This study confirmed various risk indicators of ECC in Korean children, using Korean national survey data. Parents should begin an early and consistent mouth care regime to decrease the risk of ECC.

  • This study attempted to identify the factors related to life insurance focusing on two different types of life insurance: term life insurance and cash-value life insurance. Based on the human capital, bequest motives theories, and decision under risk, a conceptual framework was developed. The results showed a support for the conceptual framework indicating that human capital, bequest motives as well as attitude toward risk were important factors in predicting each of life insurance ownership. In addition, the factors related to each type of life insurance were different. For term life insurance, the variables representing households' bequest motives were found to play an important role while the variables reflecting human capital theory had significant impact on cash-value life insurance holding.

  • In the paper, we designed an automatic security diagnostic evaluation System(SeDES) based on a security diagnostic evaluation model(SeDEM) for an organization's security assurance. The SeDEM evaluates a security level of an organization quantitatively by a security evaluation formula which is composed of security variables and security index as applying the statistical CAEL model for evaluate risk level of banks. The SeDES has a good expandability as changing security variables according to an organization scale, characteristics and so on. And it also has a excellent usage because it inputs only numeric data got from statistical technique to security index. We can understand more a security level correctly than the existent risk assessment system because it is possible to assess quantitatively with an security grade as well as score. analysis.

  • This study identified the health, academic attainment, violence and abuse factors on predicting the conduct development and emotional symptoms in 'looked after children' placement. A sample of 1,543 children was interviewed regarding emotional and behavioral symptoms and risk factors. Logistic regression was used to assess whether selected variables predicted emotional and behavioral symptoms in 'looked after children'. All placement, health, academic, violence, and abuse factors differentiated behavioral and emotional symptom differences according to selected variables. Binary logistic regression indictors of conduct behavior symptom among 'looked after children', included gender, age, placement, health, violence, and abuse. Placement, health, reading ability, violence, and witnessing domestic violence further predicted emotional and behavioral symptoms. These findings highlight multidimensional approaches to address various vulnerability indicators that have a direct application to prevention and intervention efforts to designed for emotional and behavioral problems among children in public care.

  • A refined three-dimensional finite element interaction model between the high-speed train and railway bride deck has been developed in the present study. Analytical predictions of vertical deflections for a railway bridge are compared with in-situ test results and a good agreement is achieved. Then, input variables employed in the analytical comparisons are selected as random variables for the limit state functions. followed by risk assessment. For this purpose, a linear adaptive weighted response surface method has been developed and applied. A typical railway bridge has been selected and the limit state functions are employed from UIC and Korean specifications in the comparative studies. The results reveal that Korean specifications give significantly risky reliability indices in comparison with UIC specifications. It is thus encouraged from the above that the present linear adaptive weighted response surface method can be an alternative for the fast estimation of nonlinear structural systems.

  • This study was conducted to identify the determinants of regional body fat distribution of obesity(upper body obesity and lower body obesity) for adolescents. The macronutrient consumption pattern utilized the most important variables to test for potential determinants. A total of 726 adolescents living in rural areas in Korea had been observed for four years from 1992 to 1996 about their diet, sexual maturation, serum components and physical growth. The study design was similar to that of a case control study. Logistic regression analysis were used as an analytical method to identify the determinants of upper body obesity and lower body obesity. Odd ratios were estimated from the regression to identify the determinants of upper body obesity and lower body obesity. Odd ratios were estimated from the regression to identify the risk factors. Fat consumption pattern was the most frequent one among the three macronutrient consumption pattern of carbohydrate, fat and protein. Prevalence of obesity for the subjects was 9.5%. Prevalence of upper body obesity was higher in malestudents than in female students. On the other had, prevalence of lower body obesity was higher in females. The results of the logicstic regression analysis showed that the risk factor for upper body obesity was sexual maturity rather than dietary factors. None of the factors included in the analysis for lower body obesity appear to be the risk factor. The result may suggest that to develop a determinant model for obesity of adolescents, the model should include a wider range of variables other than diet, sexual maturity and changes in blood serum.

  • This study identifies the effects of fashion innovativeness and style-innovation attributes of young female adults in fashion adoption. Date collecting using a written survey instrument yielded 801 complete responses from female consumers between the ages 20 and 39. A factor analysis on style-innovation attributes resulted in 5 dimensional structures: relative advantage, compatibility, trialability, observability, and perceived risk. 5 groups divided by the level of fashion innovativeness showed meaningful differences on style innovation attributes. The more a group showed fashion innovativeness, the higher the level of relative advantage, compatibility, trialability, and observability the group expressed, but the more a group showed fashion innovativeness, the lower the level of perceived risk expressed by the group. To analyze fashion adoption of the samples, 5 dimensions of style-innovation attributes and fashion innovativeness were adopted as explanatory variables. All of these variables (except observability) significantly and positively affected fashion adoption; however, perceived risk significantly and negatively affected fashion adoption.
