Joint Reasoning of Real-time Visual Risk Zone Identification and Numeric Checking for Construction Safety Management

  • The recognition of the risk hazards is a vital step to effectively prevent accidents on a construction site. The advanced development in computer vision systems and the availability of the large visual database related to construction site made it possible to take quick action in the event of human error and disaster situations that may occur during management supervision. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the risk factors that need to be managed at the construction site and review appropriate and effective technical methods for each risk factor. This research focuses on analyzing Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA) related to risk zone identification rules that can be adopted by the image recognition technology and classify their risk factors depending on the effective technical method. Therefore, this research developed a pattern-oriented classification of OSHA rules that can employ a large scale of safety hazard recognition. This research uses joint reasoning of risk zone Identification and numeric input by utilizing a stereo camera integrated with an image detection algorithm such as (YOLOv3) and Pyramid Stereo Matching Network (PSMNet). The research result identifies risk zones and raises alarm if a target object enters this zone. It also determines numerical information of a target, which recognizes the length, spacing, and angle of the target. Applying image detection joint logic algorithms might leverage the speed and accuracy of hazard detection due to merging more than one factor to prevent accidents in the job site.

  • The railway industry has well developed with Korea's economic growth as follows - Industrial railway's electrification in 1973, Seoul subway opening in 1974, Busan subway opening in 1985, High speed railway opening in 2004. But LRT as city transportation means has been faced with many difficulties. Looking at the LRT projects implemented until now, there are some issues like the transportation demand, the quality & safety of RS and facilities, the poor management of inhabitant complaints and the failure to maintain policy coherence. They have caused not only the project schedule to extend but also the project costs to increase, even to obstruct the project progress itself in some cases. These risk factors become the obstacle of LRT project's success, but it is said that more basic problem is the lack of risk management capability of competent authorities in railway business. Under these circumstance, Railway specialized Authorities and Local government have cooperated to identify various risk factors and to prepare the measures in advance, so we try to introduce this cooperation case, which will help other local government as an useful reference.

미시적 주행행태를 반영한 후미추돌위험 평가모형 개발 (Development of the Risk Evaluation Model for Rear End Collision on the Basis of Microscopic Driving Behaviors)

  • 안전측면에서 교통류를 효율적으로 운영${\cdot}$관리하기 위해서는 교통류의 위험정도를 명확하게 판단할 수 있는 기준 및 모형개발이 필요하다. 이를 위해, 본 연구에서는 불완전한 추종으로 인해 발생할 수 있는 교통류 위험을 후미추돌위험의 관점에서 파악하였다. 과거 사고 예측 및 도로위험도 평가모형의 경우 운전자 반응을 고려하지 않았기 때문에, 모형의 신뢰성에 다소 문제가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 한계 및 문제점을 극복하기 위해 사고발생 가능성이라는 개념을 도입함으로써 위험과 사고 사이에 존재하는 운전자 반응을 모형에 반영하였다. 즉, 추종이론 및 안정성 이론을 바탕으로 후미추돌과 관련된 미시적 변수 즉, 운전자의 반응시간과 감속도를 반영하여 운전자를 고려한 모형을 개발하였다. 위험도를 대표할 수 있는 지표 개발을 위해 소음영향평가에서 사용되는 척도를 활용하였으며, 상대적인 위험도 우위를 평가하기 위해 위험강도 및 지속시간을 고려한 ‘등가위험도’를 개발하였다. 서울시 도시고속도로를 대상으로 직접 실험${\cdot}$조사를 수행하였으며, 미시적 교통류 자료수집을 위해 직접 실험차량을 제작하였다. 수집된 자료를 바탕으로 구간별, 차로별, 교통상황별 위험도를 도출하였다. 모형에 의해 도출된 위험도를 해당구간에서 수집된 차로별 사고자료와 비교하여 본 결과, 교통상황 및 사고자료 패턴과 일치하는 결과를 보여주었다. 본 연구에서 개발된 모형은 안전진단 및 도로설계에서부터 첨단안전차량 제어알고리즘의 안전성평가에 이르기가지 다양한 분야에서 활용될 수 있다.

RAMS evaluation for a steel-truss arch high-speed railway bridge based on SHM system

  • The evaluation theory of reliability, availability, maintainability and safety (RAMS) as a mature theory of state evaluation in the railway engineering, can be well used to the evaluation, management, and maintenance of complicated structure like the long-span bridge structures on the high-speed railway. Taking a typical steel-truss arch bridge on the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway, the Nanjing Dashengguan Yangtze River Bridge, this paper developed a new method of state evaluation for the existing steel-truss arch high-speed railway bridge. The evaluation framework of serving state for the bridge structure is presented based on the RAMS theory. According to the failure-risk, safety/availability, maintenance of bridge members, the state evaluation method of each monitoring item is presented. The weights of the performance items and the monitoring items in all evaluation levels are obtained using the analytic hierarchy process. Finally, the comprehensive serving state of bridge structure is hierarchical evaluated.

A study on road damage detection for safe driving of autonomous vehicles based on OpenCV and CNN

  • For safe driving of autonomous vehicles, road damage detection is very important to lower the potential risk. In order to ensure safety while an autonomous vehicle is driving on the road, technology that can cope with various obstacles is required. Among them, technology that recognizes static obstacles such as poor road conditions as well as dynamic obstacles that may be encountered while driving, such as crosswalks, manholes, hollows, and speed bumps, is a priority. In this paper, we propose a method to extract similarity of images and find damaged road images using OpenCV image processing and CNN algorithm. To implement this, we trained a CNN model using 280 training datasheets and 70 test datasheets out of 350 image data. As a result of training, the object recognition processing speed and recognition speed of 100 images were tested, and the average processing speed was 45.9 ms, the average recognition speed was 66.78 ms, and the average object accuracy was 92%. In the future, it is expected that the driving safety of autonomous vehicles will be improved by using technology that detects road obstacles encountered while driving.

초고속 자기부상철도 개발을 위한 시스템엔지니어링 계획서 (Systems Engineering Plan for the Development of Ultra-High-Speed Maglev Train System)

  • The systems engineering (SE) process shall be applied to the project for successful development of ultra-high-speed (UHS) Maglev train system which is one of very large and complex systems. It is important to abolish technology differentials from the advanced developers such as Germany, Japan, etc. and to ensure discriminatory competitiveness of the application of systems engineering process for the development of the system based on appropriate concepts and requirements. General operation concept and stakeholder's requirements of UHS Maglev train system must be elicited with system concept for initiating the project. The management plan should be devised for all sorts of systems engineering activities of risk management, performance management, lifecycle cost management, etc. This paper would support to establish the systems engineering management plan (SEMP) for the program of UHS Maglev train system development with associated documents.

  • Relatively high rotating speed propulsion shafting system of the large Ro-Ro Ferry has a greate risk of the resonance of the whirling vibration within the operating speed range. Therefore, it is necessary to control the whirling vibration characteristics of the shafting system in the initial design stage so as not to be resonant with the blade number order excitation in the normal operating speed range. The results of the whirling vibration analysis for l000P Ro-Ro Ferry with SHI's in-house program and the measured results during the sea trial are introduced. Additionally the outline of the program and the calculation method of the major properties are presented.

  • To cope with the demagnetization risk of permanent magnets used in Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors(IPMSM), an accurate iron analysis and thermal analysis are very important. In this research, to calculate thermal increment of IPMSM for high-speed traction motor, we will extract losses of IPMSM considering the condition of field weakening control. Then we will input the calculated losses such as iron loss and copper loss as the thermal sources. Based on magnetic filed and thermal analysis, we will support the design of IPMSM for high-speed train.

Towards a revised base wind speed map for the United Kingdom

  • Observations of extreme wind speeds in the United Kingdom from 1970 to 1980, corrected for the influence of upwind ground roughness and topography, have been analysed using the recently-developed "Improved Method of Independent Storms" (IMIS). The results have been used to compile two new maps of base wind speed and to confirm the climatic factors in current use. One map is 'irrespective' of wind direction and the other is 'equally weighted' by direction. The 'equally weighted' map is expected to be more consistently reliable and appropriate for use with the climatic factors for the design of buildings and structures.

  • To predict efficiency of Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors(IPMSM) and to cope with the demagnetization risk of permanent magnets used in the IPMSM, accurate iron analysis of the IPMSM is very important at the motor design stage. In the analysis, we calculate the operation condition such as rotor speed and current angle. and then, we analyzed the iron loss of the machine for electric vehicle according to its driving condition. From the analysis results, it was shown that the harmonic iron losses of stator are larger than before at field-weakening region. In addition, it was revealed that rotor iron loss mainly induced by stator slot-ripples is independent of current angle and only varied according to the speed.
