This paper presents a comparative analysis on step and the touch voltages generated by either a sine and a ring wave voltage generator; this analysis was done as a basic study in order to develop a small and lightweight ground meter. A ring wave generator using pulsed power technology was fabricated; an experimental grounding system specified in Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers standards 80 and 81 was installed. The step and the touch voltages, which were measured using comparable a sine and a ring waves in terms of magnitude and frequency, were equal. Using pulsed power technology, the weight of the fabricated ring wave generator could be reduced to one-fifth of that of a sine wave generator. Consequently, if a ground meter adopts the ring wave instead of a sine wave, it will be possible to reduce the weight of a ground meter and improve the efficiency of measurement.
Retaining rings are used to support the field winding end turns from the centrifugal force by the high speed of the field and these are the overstressed parts among the generator parts. There have been several retaining failures in Europe and America, all attributable to stress corrosion cracking in 18Mn-5Cr steel. Since then, each manufacture companies have developed a good 18Mn-5Cr steel in temperature, strength characteristic and it is used in many field now. From many findings and test results, we could conformed that the failure might be grown in the overstressed condition unrelated to the moisture particle.
Numerical simulation based on the superposition of ring waves generated by the linear periodic source distributions for the plunger type wave maker was accomplished. The characteristics of directional spreading function were investigated. Mirror images are also introduced to consider reflections of side-wall together with the reflection coefficient to account for the imperfect reflection from the real side wall in the long experimental towing tank. Unexpected spurious waves, resulting from the combined effect of finite breadth of segmented wave maker, wavelength and main wave maker, wavelength and main wave propagating direction, were observed in the line source method and also in the analysis of the directivity. The influence of spurious waves to the directional spreading function was also investigated.
In this paper, we propose a novel type shaft-less ring type ultrasonic motor. A traveling wave rotary type ultrasonic motor is selected as a base model. The newly designed stator has two piezoelectric ceramic rings which are bonded in sandwich shape as traveling wave generator. So, we can expect to produce higher torque. The proposed model has the rotor structure that coupled with the stator provokes the pressure, this model do not install the separate plate any spring device. We used the finite element method to verify the operation principle and to compute the vibration mode of proposed model.
As the huge economical loss and function paralysis of information technology-based systems can be caused by the misoperation of residual current devices(RCDs) due to surge voltages and currents, RCDs shall not operate by surge currents. In this paper, in order to evaluate the reliability of residual current operated circuit-breakers with integral overcurrent protection for household and similar uses((RCBOs) stressed by surges, the unintended trip characteristics of RCBOs under surge currents were experimentally investigated using the combination wave generator. Seven different types of single-phase RCBOs being present on the domestic market were investigated according to KS C IEC 61009-1 standard. As a result, all kinds of specimens were satisfied the requirements for 0.5 [${\mu}s$]/100[kHz] ring wave impulse currents. Most of specimens stressed by the 8/20[${\mu}s$] impulse current tripped at least one or more, and some of them were broken down during consecutive tests. It was found that only one type of specimens meets the L-N mode immunity to the combination wave of 1.2/50[${\mu}s$] impulse voltage and 8/20[${\mu}s$] impulse current.
In this study, we proposed a new type of dual-buoy wave energy converter (WEC) exploiting multi-resonance and analyzed the experimental results from a model test in a 2-D wave flume. A dual-buoy WEC using multi-resonance has two advantages: high efficiency at the resonant frequencies and the potential to extend the frequency range available to extract wave power from the WEC. The suggested WEC was composed of an outer buoy and an inner buoy sliding vertically inside the outer buoy. As the power take-off device, a linear electric generator (LEG) consisting of permanent magnets and coils fixed at each buoy was adopted. Electricity was produced by the relative heave motion between the two buoys. To search for the optimal shape of a dual-buoy WEC, we conducted experiments on the heave motion of a two-body system in regular waves without an LEG installed. Model tests with six combinations of experimental models were conducted in order to find the motion characteristics of a dual-buoy WEC. It was found that model 2, which included a ring-shaped appendage to move the resonant frequency of the outer buoy toward a high value, showed a higher relative heave response amplitude operator (RAO) curve than model 1. In addition, the double-peak shape of the heave RAO curve shown for model 2 indicated the extension of the frequency range for extracting wave power in irregular waves.
Optical frequency comb generators have been investigated as a signal source capable of generating highly stabilized ultrafast pulse lasers. The precise control of the optical frequency comb spacing by RF clock signals has led to a revolutionary paradigm shift in the precise measurement of time and frequency. Optical frequency combs also have advantages such as stable frequency spacing, stable number of lines, and robustness. Owing to these characteristics, optical frequency combs have been applied to the fields of high precision optical clock, communication, spectroscopy, waveform generation, and astronomy. In this article, we introduce the properties (i.e., generation methods, advantages, and so on) of various optical frequency combs, and discuss the expected future technological trends and applications.
