  • A sex cord tumor with annnular tubules is a relatively rare ovarian neoplasm. The cytologic findings from a fine needle aspiration biopsy of neck metastasis of a sex cord tumor with annnular tubules are described. The origin of the neck metastasis was the right ovary, and the tumor was diagnosed six years ago. The cytologic findings were characterized by tumor cells arranged in solid or follicular patterns. The tumor cells formed rosette-like or complex tubular structures with central rounded or coalesced hyaline materials. It was difficult to distinguish this tumor cytologically from granulosa cell tumor, thyroid follicular neoplasm, Sertoli-Leydig cell tumor, and Brenner tumor, but complex tubular structures were helpful in discriminating between these tumors.

  • A observation of the ovarian development and oogenesis of Pieris rapae Linne has been carried out during metamorphosis using stereo-microscope, light microscope and electron microscope. The results obtained through this experiment are as follows: 1. The ovarian development and vitellogenesis begin at the 3-day old pupa and the 6-day old pupa respectively, and the adult ovary right after their emergence contains a few mature eggs. 2. The species described above are further observed at six different stages in oogenesis, and the results are summarized as follows. 1) Pieris rapae has polytrophic ovarioles. The cell organelles of the nurse cells are transfered to the oocyte through the ring canal at the early oogenesis. 2) At stage 2, the nuclear envelope of oocyte nucleus is less infolding than that of nurse cell nucleus. In the oocyte cytoplasm a large number of ribosomes are observed. 3) At stage 3 and 4, many micropinocytotic vesicles are observed in the oocyte cytoplasm. These vesicles are fused together to form large proteid yolks. 4) At stage 5, the vitelline membrane is laid down in the intercellular space between the follicle cells and oocyte. 5) At stage 6, the chorion is formed by the follicle cells. 6) A micropyle and a number of aeropyle are observed on the surface of a mature egg.

인삼(Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) 종피의 구조 및 분화에 관한 연구 (A Study on Structure and Differentiation of Seed Coat of Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer)

  • Structure and differentiation mechanism of the seed coat of Panax ginseng are studied with light and electron microscopes to clarify the developmental processes of seed coat and the structural changes during the differentiation of the seed. The seed coat of ginseng is differentiated from the inner cell layers of ovary wall, which can be compared with the seed coat differentiated from integument(s) in other plants. The single integument is differentiated into endothelium, which is degenerated to one layer of 4${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in thickness, composed of remants of cell wall components in fully ripened seed. The ripened seed coat is composed of three layers; fringe layer, inner layer and palisade layer, and all of the them are crossed at right angles with one another. This may be the cause of protection of the kernel from other mechanical injuries. The thickness of fully ripened seed coat is about 300~600 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, and arrangements of sclereids are irregular. However, the raphe region of seed coat is thin about 200 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in thickness and sclereids in that region are arranged regularly. This is the important cause for the cleavage of the seed coat during post-maturation process. The vascular bundles on the raphe are still remaining after sarcocarps are removed, and one of the branches of vascular bundles entered into the seed coat through the hilum and extended to chalazal region. During post-maturation process, the supply of water being necessary for growth of embryo may be accompolished by the vascular bundles entered into the seed coat through the opened hilum.

미경산돈에 대한 호르몬처리가 과배란 및 난자발달에 미치는 영향 (Effects opf Hormone Treatment on Superovulation and Embryonic Development in the Gilts)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate effects of hormonal treatments on corpus lutea, follicles and development stage of embryos for enhancing the production efficiency of in vivo porcine embryos suitable to introduce fo foreign genes. Hundred and twenty gilts were allocated to 6 experimental group in different combinations of hormones PG 600, PMSG, hCG and altrenogest. When gilts were treated with chorionic gonadotrophin 200 IU and serum gonadotrophin 200 IU(PG 600), altrenogest, serum gonadotrophin (PMSG) 1,000 IU, and chorionic gonadotrophin(hCG) 750 IU (PAPh), the numbers of corpus luteum (30.4) were significantly higher than those of other treatment groups (P<0.05). The number of corpus luteum from ovary in either right (9.1) or left (10.1) side was not significantly changed with hormone treatments. Number of follicles in control was 20.7, which was higher than those of hormonal treatment groups. The average numbers of 1, 2, 4 and 8 cell staged embryos were 8.1, 1.4, 1.6 and 1.0 in control, but the numbers of 1-cell stage in PAPh treatment group was 24.2, which was significantly higher than those of treatment groups (P<0.05). Therefore, these data indicated that hormonal treatment, especially PAPh, enhanced the developments of follicles, corpus lutea and embryos and increased the collection rate of the 1-cell stage embryos to introduce of foreign genes.

  • 본 연구는 동해남부해역의 수하식 우렁쉥이 양식장에서 양식되고 있는 2년산 우렁쉥이, Halocynrhia roretzi의 생식세포 및 생식소 발달과 성숙 조사를 위하여 1996년 5월부터 1997년 4월에 걸쳐 조사되었다. 우렁쉥이는 자웅동체형으로 난생이었다. 난소는 체벽에 평행하게 붙어 좌측에 6~8개, 우측에 8~10개의 가는 생식수관을 가진 구조이며, 정소는 난소 사이에 불규칙 한 많은 낭상 구조를 가진 복합 생식소이었다. 난원세포는 직경이 11.7~15.6 ${\mu}m$이었고, 초기성장기의 난모세포는 직경 39.6~47.6 ${\mu}m$이었으며, 핵경은 10.0~25.0 ${\mu}m$이었다. 난소를 대부분 차지하는 난황형성중인 난모세포는 158.6~210.0 ${\mu}m$에 이르렀다. 성숙 난모세포는 210.0~230.9 ${\mu}m$로 피질부에서 test cell들이 관찰되었다. 정소는 한 개의 정소낭에 여러 개의 곡정세관이 밀집되어 그 내부 생식상피를 따라 일반적인 정자형성과정을 보이고 있었다. 첫 산란은 수온이 1$0^{\circ}C$이하로 떨어진, 3년생이 되는 1997년 1월에서 2월에 주로 이루어졌다.

The Use of Radioimmunoassay to Moniter Reproductive Status of Cheju Native Cattle and the Effect of Su, pp.ementary Feeding on Reproduction 1. Body Weight Changes, Breeding Performances and Progesterone Levels from Weaning until First Calving

  • Studies were conducted to investigate the relationship between hormone leveles and nutritional levels for improving performance of Cheju native cattle. In June 1984 a trial was initiated using 8 Cheju native calves after weaning, fed at two su, pp.ementary feeding levels (NRC 100% and 70%). The body weight, breedng performence, change in progesterone level during pregnancy and estrus cycle were evaluated. Mean body weight at 6 months of age was 155kg when fed 100% NRC ration but it was only 137kg when heifers received the 70% NRC ration. At 10, 15 and 20 months of age the body weight was 66, 160 and 115kg, respectively, showing that heifers fed the standard ration gained weight rapidly (P<0.01). Average size of the lefe ovary in the standard group was 2.1${\times}$1.6cm and right ovary was 2.6${\times}$1.8cm. However in the restricted feeding group the ovaries were found to be smaller. Diameter of graffian follicles showed a similar tendency to ovarian size in the two groups. The first oestrus in the standard feeding group a, pp.ared at 14.6 months when body weight was 265kg. Age at first calving was on average 28.9 months at a body weight of 436kg. On the other hand when heifers were fed the restricted ration the first oestrus a, pp.ared at 23.0 months at a body weight of 250kg. Average age at first calving was 38.9 months which was 10 months later than the average in the standard feeding group (P<0.01). In standard feeding group the progesterone level was 2.0ng/ml at two weeks after pregnancy and gradully increased up to 4 weeks and peaked at 18 weeks. This peak (6.4-6.5ng/ml) was maintained up to 24 weeks when progesterone level decreased until it reached 2.1ng/ml at the end of pregnancy. In the restricted group progesterone level up to 16 weeks followed a similar pattern to the standard group but there was a tendency in the restricted group to have lower progesterone levels(P<0.01). The standard and srstricted groups showed similar patterns of progesterone concentration during the oestrus cylce. There were no statistically significant differences in progesterone levels between standard and restricted groups but there was variation between induvidual animals.

Ovarian potential of Cameroonian Zebu cattle (Bos indicus) slaughtered in Etoudi - Yaoundé

  • Background: This study helps to evaluate the Ovarian potential of Cameroonian Zebu cattle (Bos indicus) slaughtered in Etoudi - Yaoundé for implementing Assisted Reproductive Techniques (ARTs). The aim was to enhance the productivity of the cattle sub-sector in Cameroon while conserving local genetic resources. Methods: A total of 144 cows, including 94 cycled cows and 50 pregnant cows, were included in the study. Live weights were determined by measuring the thoracic perimeter of each cow using a Rondo measuring tape. Age was determined postmortem through examination of dentition and horns, while the uterus and ovaries were removed, weighed, and classified based on physiological status (pregnant or nonpregnant). Follicles were counted, and their diameters were measured and categorized into small (Ø < 3 mm), medium (Ø 3-8 mm), and large (Ø > 8 mm). Results: The results revealed an average follicular population of 32.02 ± 9.31 per cow, with 22.43 ± 8.45 small follicles, 8.42 ± 3.87 medium follicles, and 0.76 ± 0.34 large follicles. The weight of the right ovary was significantly higher than that of the left ovary (p < 0.05), and cows aged 6 to 9 years exhibited a higher number of follicles compared to other age groups. Cows with medium (BCS = 3) and large (BCS = 4-5) body reserves had the heaviest ovaries. Additionally, pregnant cows had heavier uteri compared to non-pregnant cows, and cows with a body condition score of 3 or higher had higher uterine weights than lean cows (BCS = 1-2). Conclusions: This study demonstrates that age, body condition score, and pregnancy status influence ovarian weight. Body Condition Score serves as a reliable indicator of cow nutritional status, and cows with BCS of 3-5 are excellent candidates for in vitro production of embryos.

그물코쥐치, Rudarius ercodes의 생식주기 (Reproductive Cycle of Small Filefish, Rudarius ercodes)

  • 1982년 9월부터 1983년 8월까지 일본국 정강현 빈명군 빈명호입구 연안에서 채집된 그물코쥐치, Rudarius ercodes를 대상으로 생식생태를 파악하기 위하여 연간 생식소숙도지수(GSI)와 간숙도지수(HSI)의 변화를 조사하였고 이들 생식소발달과정을 광학 및 전자현미경적 방법에 의해 조사하였다. GSI는 일장이 길어지며 수온이 상승하는 3월부터 상승하기 시작하여 6월에서 8월까지 년중 최대값을 나타내고, 9월부터 하강하여 11월부터 이듬해 2월까지 변화없이 연중 최저값을 나타냈다. GSI의 연간변화는 수컷의 경우 뚜렷하지 못하고 암컷의 경우는 GSI와 역상관 관계를 가지고 변하고 있다. 즉 생식소가 발달하는 하계에는 HSI값이 떨어지고, 생식소가 퇴화되는 동계에는 HSI값이 최대로 높아진다. 난소는 많은 난소소낭으로 구성된 1쌍의 낭상형 구조를 이루고 있고, 이들 난소소낭 상피에서 난원세포가 분열증식되고 있다. 초기 난모세포는 세포질이 호염기성이고 핵막을 따라 여러 개의 분산인을 가진다. 완숙 난모세포는 $300{mu}$ 내외로 핵이 동물극으로 이동되면서 핵막이 소실되고, 원형질구성이 극히 한정되며, 대부분의 세포질은 난황과 유구에 의해 충만된다. 배란후 난소소낭에 잔존하는 여포성장중인 난모세포들은 퇴화흡수되나, 아직 여포가 형성되지 못한 초기 주변인기 난모세포들은 퇴화되지 않고 이듬해 난소활성과 함께 성장되어 간다. 난모세포가 성숙되고 난황 축적이 활발해지면서 mitochondria와 과립성소포체가 급격히 증가하는데 이들은 난모세포의 성숙과 난황 축적에 기능적으로 관계가 있는 것 같다. 성숙난모세포의 미세융모의 홈에 뻗은 여포돌기 선단에 난황전구물질로 생각되는 $5{\sim}6$ 층의 원반상고전자밀도 구조물이 나타나고 있다. 정소는 좌우 1 쌍의 엽상구조를 가지며 후방에서 합일되어 저정낭을 이룬다. 정소의 피질층은 정자형성이 일어나는 정소소낭으로 구성되어 있고 수질층은 이들 소낭과 연결된 여러 갈래의 수정관이 분포한다. 성장중인 정소의 간질에는 소관상 cristae가 발달된 대형 mitochondria와 다수의 소포체를 가진 steroid 계 hormone 생성분필세포가 존재한다. 정자의 두부는 핵중앙에 깊이 함입된 중심강이 있어 U 자형을 이루고 첨체는 극히 빈약하다. 중편의 mitochondria는 커다란 구형의 부핵을 형성하고 있으며, 미부의 axoneme을 이루는 미세소관은 9+9+2형을 나타낸다. 생식연주기는 3월부터 7월에 걸친 성장기 5월부터 9월까지의 성숙기, 5월중순부터 10월 초순까지의 산란기, 그리고 10월부터 이듬해 2월까지의 휴식기 등 연속적인 주기로 구분할 수 있었고 산란성기는 6월부터 8월까지였다.

소아의 감돈 서혜부 탈장 (Incarcerated Inguinal Hernia in Children)

  • Three hundred and twenty-seven patients of 2,046 inguinal hernia cases Primarily repaired at Hanyang University Hospital had the history of incarceration or presented as incarcerated inguinal hernia on admission. Incidence of incarceration of all male hernias was 14.2%(234 patients) and 22.7%(93 patients) of all female cases. Incarceration occurred in 17.3% of all right hernia cases and in 13.7% of all left hernia cases. The incarceration occurred 52.6% of the hernia patients in the first month of life, 27.3% in the first year, 26.7% in the second year and 7.8% after 2 years of age. Strangulated inguinal hernia occurred in 8 patients: five patients had ovaries involved, two patients intestines, and one patient omentum. Emergency operations were performed on 66 patients(20.2%) because incarcerated hernia could not be reduced by taxis. At the time of operation, the hernia sacs were empty in 140 of 327 patients and the remainders contained omentum(50), small intestine (44), appendix and/or cecum(28), sigmoid colon(2), ovary and/or tube(66), and omental cyst(1). An elective hernia repair should be performed promptly after presentation of the hernia, especially before 2 years of life because of high incidence of incarceration. In this study, of 327 incarcerated hernia, 187 patients(57.2%) did not have prior history of incarceration and incarceration developed more than 7 days after hernia onset in 95.6%. If the hernia repairs had been performed within 7 days after hernia onset, about half of the incarceration might have been prevented.

새로운 관절염 치료제 CONP01의 생식독성연구: 랫드 배 · 태자 발생시험 (Reproductive Toxicity Study of CONP01, a New Antiarthritic Agent: Developmental Study in Rats)

  • A developmental study of CONP01, a new antiarthritic agent, was conducted in Sprague-Dawley rats. Dosage of CONP01 0, 111, 333, and 1000 mg/kg/day were administered to dams orally from day 6 to day 16 of gestation. Two-third of dams per group were subjected to caesarean section on day day 20 of pregnancy for examination of their fetuses, and the remaining one-third of dams per group were allowed to deliver naturally for postnatal examination of their offspring. There was no change in the dams body weights, food consumptions, specific clinical sings and gross findings. There was significant decrease only in the absolute and relative weights of right ovary in 111 mg/kg treatment group, when compared with the vehicle control, whereas other organ weights were not changed. Moreover, no increase in the frequencies of external, visceral and skeletal malformation of fetuses were observed in the treated groups. These results suggest that the oral NOAEL (no observed adverse effect level) of CONP01 may be over 1,000 mg/kg in dams and fetuses of rats.
