  • In this paper, we compare the existing channel estimation technique for 4S (Ship to Ship, Ship to Shore) maritime communications under AWGN channel model, Rician fading channel model, and Rayleigh fading channel model respectively. In general, the received signal is corrupted by multipath and ISI (Inter Symbol Interference). The estimation of a time-varying multipath fading channel is a difficult task for the receiver. Its performance can be improved if an appropriate channel estimation filter is used. The simulation is performed in MATLAB. In this simulation, we use the popular estimation algorithms, LMS (Least Mean Square) and RLS (Recursive Least-Squares) are compared with respect to AWGN, Rician and Rayleigh channels.

  • In this paper, we simulated terrestrial digital broadcasting system and analyzed the performance of 8-VSB signal and carried out baseband simulation of tranceiver modeling by standard parameter and passband simulation for interchannel interference. Also, an error rate equation for fading and interference of 8-VSB signal is derived. As a result, the case not to consider Rician fading, the influence of the interference did not exist if frequency interval fell of over the 20MHz. The case to consider Rician fading, the system had the degradation of the performance.

  • The channel capacities of various lading channels are calculated and compared with that of Gaussian noise channel to find out the decrements of channel capacity according to each fading environment. As a result, it is confirmed that the channel capacities in Rician and m-distribution fading channels approach to that of Gaussian noise channel as direct-to-indirect power ratio in Rician fading channel and fading index m in m-distribution fading channel increases respectively. And the difference between two channel capacities of Gaussian noise channel and each fading channel which is dependent on carrier-to-noise power ratio (CNR) is found. Also the improvement of channel capacity of Rayleigh fading channel by introducing two-branch diversities is obtained. For diversity reception, predetection maximal-ratio and postdetection selective combining techniques are adopted. The results show that the improvement of channel capacity by predetection maximal-ratio combining diversity is superior to the postdetection selective combining diversitiy regardless of correlation coefficient between two diversity branches in Raylelgh fading channel. The best improvement is achieved when two branches are noncorrelative in both two diversify techniques and as correlation coefficient of two diversity branches is smaller, the improvement of channel capacity is greater.

  • We consider an improved multicarrier(MC) CDMA system that combines both DS-CDMA with a concatenated orthogonal/PN spreading sequence and MC modulation. This system incorporates the advantages of DS-CDMA with a concatenated sequence to achieve large user capacity and MC modulation technique to combat the effects of a multipath fading channel and intersymbol interference(ISI). Considering voice activity and imperfect sectorization, the system performance is analysed for the maximal ratio combiner(MRC) under a multicell, multiuser, and multipath Rayleigh/Rician fading channels. The performance of the system is improved much more for the single path fading channel compared to the multipath fading channel. Also the system is shown to have the more improved average bit error rate(BER) over the orthogonal MC-CDMA with the conventional PN sequence.

  • In this paper, the Doppler phase error due to the relative velocity between a satellite and the earth station in communications using a low earth orbit mobile satellite is detected. The performance of BPSK system in the presence of Rician fading with Doppler phase error and interference, noise is compared with that of the system disturbed by Doppler phase error and noise only. The expression of error rate performance of BPSK system is derived as the type of complementary error function. The numerical calculation of the induced equation are performed in terms of satellite-height, orbit-eccentricity, the velocity of the earth, Rician fading parameter, signal to interference rateio (SIR), the ratio of carrier frequency and base band bit rate. The main conclusion that can be drawn from this analysis is that Rician fading channel environment with Doppler phase error and interference effect yields severe performance degradation than Do- ppler phase error and noise effect in satellite communication channel. And using the numerical calculation, we give a quantitative insight how much the satellite communication channel parameters degrade the system performance. Furthermore it is shown that an appropriate transmission power control for the performance enhancement is beneficial to the new satellite communication system planning.

  • Spectrum sensing is a key technical challenge for cognitive radio (CR). It is well known that multicycle cyclostationarity (MC) detection is a powerful method for spectrum sensing. However, a conventional MC detector is difficult to implement because of its high computational complexity. This paper considers reducing computational complexity by simplifying the test statistic of a conventional MC detector. On the basis of this simplification process, an improved MC detector is proposed. Compared with the conventional detector, the proposed detector has low-computational complexity and high-accuracy sensing performance. Subsequently, the sensing performance is further investigated for the cases of Rayleigh, Nakagami-m, Rician, and Rayleigh fading and lognormal shadowing channels. Furthermore, square-law combining (SLC) is introduced to improve the detection capability in fading and shadowing environments. The corresponding closed-form expressions of average detection probability are derived for each case by the moment generation function (MGF) and contour integral approaches. Finally, illustrative and analytical results show the efficiency and reliability of the proposed detector and the improvement in sensing performance by SLC in multipath fading and lognormal shadowing environments.

  • In this paper, diversity-multiplexing tradeoff (DMT) of three-user wireless multiple-antenna cooperative systems is investigated in general fading channels when half-duplex and decode-and-forward relay is employed. Three protocols, i.e., adaptive protocol, receive diversity protocol, and dual-hop relaying protocol, are considered. The general fading channels may include transmit and/or receive correlation and nonzero channel means, and are extensions of independent and identically distributed Rayleigh or Rician fading channels. Firstly, simple DMT expressions are derived for general fading channels with zero channel means and no correlation when users employ arbitrary number of antennas. Explicit DMT expressions are also obtained when all users employ the same number of antennas and the channels between any two users are of the same fading statistics. Finally, the impact of nonzero channel means and/or correlation on DMT is evaluated. It is revealed theoretically that the DMTs depend on the number of antennas at each user, channel means (except for Rayleigh and Rician fading statistics), transmit and/or receive correlation, and the polynomial behavior near zero of the channel gain probability density function. Examples are also provided to illustrate the analysis and results.

  • In this paper, we have analyzed the block error probability of orthogonal multicarrier 16 QAM signal in a frequency selective Rician fading environment. The block error probability is evaluated with several parameters such as normalized propagation delay $(\gamma/T_S),$, bit energy to noise power ratio $(E_b/N_0),$ and desired signal to undesired signal power ratio (DUR) in fast fading and slow fading channels. In the fast fading channel, The result shows that the block error probability rather in the fast fading channel achieves better performance than in the slow fading channel, when the error correction capability is one or two.

  • In this paper, BER performance of DS/CDMA-BPSK system is analyzed in mixed lading channel that is consist of Rayleigh fadins Rician fading, and shadowed Rician fading. From the results, we know that proposed mixed fading model is very suitable to describe the different channel situations. and, the occupancy probability and the shadowing depth are very dependent to the system performance. Finally, we know that the Reed-Solomon coded DS/ CDMA-BPSK system is very robust to simultaneous user interference and mixed lading channel.

  • The performances of M-ary PSK(MPSK) systems using L-branch maximum ratio combining(MRC) diversity reception in frequency-nonselective slow Rician fading channels are derived theoretically. Especially we investigate the effect of number of symbols on the difference between the approximation to bit error probability and the exact bit error rate(BER) in evaluating the performance of MPSK signals through numerical analyses. On the other hand, when M-ary DPSK(MDPSK) signals experience the Rician fading channels, the general formula for evaluating BER of MDPSK signals in the independent branch diversity system is presented using the integral-form expressions.
