답전윤환형태별(畓田輪換形態別) 토양화학성(土壤化學性)과 수도생산성(水稻生産性) 변화(變化)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) (Effect of Paddy-upland Rotation System on Soil Chemical Properties and Rice Yield)

  • 석천미사질(石泉微砂質) 양토(壤土)에서 윤환형태(輪換形態) 및 작부체계(作付體系)에 따른 연차간(年次間) 토양질소(土壤窒素)의 무기화(無機化) 양상(樣相), 토양중(土壤中) 유기물(有機物) 및 인산(燐酸)의 변동(變動) 및 수도수량(水稻收量)과 무기성분(無機成分) 흡수량(吸收量)과의 관계를 검토(檢討)한 몇가지 결과(結果)를 요약(要約)하면 다음과 같다. 1. 긍온담수(恆溫湛水) 토양(土壤)에서 '90~'93년(年) 4년간(年間)의 4주(週) 및 10주(週)째의 질소무기화량(窒素無機化量)과 가급태(可給態) 질소함량(窒素含量)은 수도연작구(水稻連作區)보다 매년윤환구(每年輪換區) 및 2연윤환구(年輪換區)에서, 대두구(大豆區)보다 감자-배추구(區)에서 많았다. 2. 토양(土壤)중 유기물함량(有機物含量) 및 유효인산(有效燐酸)의 연차간(年次間) 변동(變動)은 수도연작구(水稻連作區)에서는 큰 변동이 없었으나 윤환구간(輪換區間)에서는 전전환구(田轉換區)>2연윤환구(年輪換區)>매년윤환구(每年輪換區)의 순(順)으로 감소되었으며 작물(作物)간에는 감자-배추구(區)보다 대두구(大豆區)에서 감소폭(減少幅)이 컸다. 3. 정조수량(正租收量)은 수도연작구(水稻連作區)에 비하여 감자-배추구(區) 및 대두구(大豆區)에서 3개년(個年) 동안 26~20%, 17~5%, 5~4% 증수(增收)되었는데 윤환년수(輪換年數)가 길수록 수량증수율(收量增收率)이 적었다. 4. 3년간(年間)('90~92년)의 수확기(收穫期) 수도(水稻) 식물체(植物體)중 모든 무기성분(無機成分) 흡수량(吸收量)은 수도(水稻) 연작구(連作區)보다 매년(每年) 윤환구(輪換區) 및 2년윤환구(年輪換區)에서, 대두구(大豆區)보다 감자-배추구(區)에서 흡수량(吸收量)이 현저히 증가되었다.

The analysis of the cultivation status of the upland crops in the paddy field using unmanned aerial vehicle

  • Recently, the South Korean government encourages the cultivation of upland crops in the paddy field to maintain an adequate level of rice production and then to balance the demand and supply of rice. This is mainly because the rice consumption per capita per year has continued to decline from 135 kg in 1979 to 61.9 kg in 2016, although the rice production was relatively stable. As a result, the rice overproduction became a big social problem. As a part of that, various upland crops such as soybean, maize, minor cereals and forage crops are planted in the paddy field 10 years ago. The cultivation of these crops may settle the problem of short supply and mass import of the crops to some extent. However, a systematic remote observation of upland crops in the paddy field is very scarce. This study investigated the cultivation status of upland crops and any changes of crop harvesting in the paddy field by using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). Also, we analyzed the kind of upland crops and cultivation area in the paddy field by utilizing time series observation images. A fixed wing UAV is used for the investigation. This is because it is easy to use the flight operation and to control flight management software, and it can automatically cope with various emergency states such as a strong wind and battery discharge. The material of UAV is expanded polypropylene, which has an advantage of less equipment damage and risk during takeoff and landing. We acquired observed images in Buljeong-myeon, Goesan-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do, South Korea by using fixed wing UAV in 2015 and 2016. The total investigated area reaches 6,045 ha, and among them the agricultural area was 1,377 ha. For the next step, we created an orthoimage from all images taken using Pix 4D mapper program. According to the results of image analyses in 2015, the paddy field covered total 577 ha (75.9%) with crop plant. The cultivation area of beans, ginseng, maize, tobacco and peach was 256 ha (36.6%), 63 ha (9.2%), 37 ha (5.4%), 31 ha (4.5%) and 27 ha (3.8), respectively. And in 2016, the total covered area was 586 ha (77.1%), and it was comprised of 253 ha (35.5%), 88 ha (12.3%), 29 ha (4.1%), 22 ha (3.1%) and 32 ha (4.5%) in the same order. In this study, we focused on identifying the paddy field which was converted to the cultivation of upland crops by using UAV. And, it has been indicated that the cultivation area of rice decreased from 141 ha in 2015 to 127 ha in 2016, although that of ginseng increased by 25 ha. As a result, it is expected that a lot of paddy field could be replaced by high-income crops such as ginseng and fruit tree (peach) instead of relative low-income rice. More specific and widespread research on the remote sensing in the paddy field needs to be done.

Growth Performance of Chinese Cabbage using Soilless Cultivation Method

  • Growing plant in potting media without soil is known as Soilless cultivation. This method is used mostly in greenhouse cultivation to increase horticultural commodities production. Peat moss is commonly utilized as potting media substrate because of its characteristic. However, peat moss price is high because of the quantity of peat moss in nature has been decreased. Recently, most of the research is conducted to find the alternative growing medium to cultivate horticulture plant in potting media. Perlite and rice husk ash were mentioned that had a potent as alternative growing media for seasonal plants to increase agriculture production due to the lack of production area. This research aims to determine the growth of in rice husk ash, perlite and peat moss as growing substrates. The method used was the soilless cultivation. The chinese cabbage was planted in the pot with perlite media, rice husk ash media, and peat moss media. The chinese cabbage was measured after 35 days after planting. The result showed that peatmoss was more potentials in chinese cabbage growth performance than rice husk ash and perlite. Peat moss had the significant result of every research parameters such as plant height, plant weight, number of leaves, plant diameter, root length, and root weight. The best alternative for cultivation chinese cabbage without substrate based on this research was peat moss then rice husk ash and perlite.

Effects of Straw Mulching and Nitrogen Fertilization on the Growth of Direct Seeded Rice in No-tillage Rice / Vetch Cropping System

  • No-till direct seeding cultivation of rice has major advantages such as saving of labor and cost by eliminating tillage, preparation of seed bed and trans-planting procedure compared to the conventional transplanting cultivation. A field experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of straw treatment and nitrogen levels on the rice growth in no-till direct-seeding cultivation. Rice straw, vetch straw, and the mixture of both of the straws were mulched on the surface of soil before seeding while 4 levels of nitrogen fertilizer, 0, 7, 9, and 11 kkg/10a respectively, were applied at 3 split times, 3-weeks after sowing, 5-weeks after sowing and the panicle initiation stage. Mulching of vetch straw significantly reduced seedling establishment of rice which may be attributed to low oxidation-reduction potential of soil by vetch mulching treatment. Vetch straw increased the concentration of soil ammonium leading to an extension of the greenish leaf to panicle initiation stage. Agronomic nitrogen use efficiency (AD $E_{N}$) in heavy-mixed straw mulching plots was lower than other treatments. Grain yield and AU $E_{N}$ in the vetch treatment were less affected by fertilized N levels. Conclusively, it is suggested that heavy straw mulching was not efficient for rice seedling establishment and nitrogen usage.e.

Occurrence of Weedy Rice as Affected by Cultural Practices

  • Since weedy rice problems have emerged with the recent advent of direct seeding cultivation in Korea, the establishment of effective control strategies for weedy rice is considered to be one of the urgent issues to be solved for widely practiced direct seeding rice cultivation. A three year experiment was conducted to investigate the occurrence pattern of weedy rice in four different rice cultivation practices: high ridged dry seeding, wet drill seeding, water seeding, and machine transplanting. The highest weedy rice occurrence of 11.0% was observed in high ridged dry seeding practice followed by 9.6% in wet drill seeding, 6.4% in water seeding practice, and 0.2% in machine transplanting practice, respectively. The same trend was observed when we examine the occurrence of contamination of panicle and rice grain by weedy rice. More contamination was observed in high ridged dry seeding than any other practices. It was also found that the possible emergence depths from the soil surface was deeper in both in ridged dry seeding and wet drill seeding practice (0-5 cm from the soil surface) than those in water seeding (0-4 cm), and machine transplanting practice (0-3 cm). The highest yield reduction of 19.5% was observed in high ridged dry seeding practice followed by 13.0% in wet drill seeding, 6.3% in water seeding practice. The reduction may have occurred to the competition between weedy rice and cultivated rice, These findings suggest that among the four cultural practices examined, the machine transplanting practice is the most effective method to control and reduce the weedy rice occurrence and weedy rice seed in soil.

Effect of Rice Transplanting Date and Optimal Transplanting Dates for Mid-Plain Area in South Korea

  • The transplanting date of rice affects grain yield and quality, and it is changed by the environment during cultivation. Thus, it is important to provide the optimal transplanting dates for rice growers under global warming environment. In this study, transplanting date experiments with thirty-day-old seedlings of three cultivars (early, mid, and mid-late maturity) were conducted at the National Institute of Crop Science in Suwon from 2018 to 2021 to determine the optimal transplanting dates for and quantify the effect of planting dates on yield and quality. Transplanting date was strongly associated with culitvar across every year. Clear relationships between transplanting date and head rice yield in early and mid-late maturing rice varieties were observed, and the highest head rice yields were observed during transplantings in mid and late June for early maturing cultivar and mid June for mid-late maturing cultivar. It is obvious that the optimal rice transplanting dates have been shifted and are better later than the optimal transplanting dates in 2002-2004. Days to heading was also strongly associated with the transplanting date and cultivar with 89% of the variation explained. Days to heading was reduced in the later transplanting dates. Grain yield was strongly associate with biomass production during ripening(R2=0.85), however translocated biomass from leaf and stem showed little association with grain yield. The results from this study reconfirmed the importance of shifting optimal transplanting dates to maximize head rice yield for the Mid-plain area in South Korea.

답전윤환에서의 조, 수수, 기장 및 벼의 생육 및 수량 (Growth and Yield Characteristics of Foxtail Millet, Proso Millet, Sorghum and Rice in Paddy-Upland Rotation)

  • 잡곡의 안정적 생산체제 마련을 위한 답전윤환 최적 모델개발의 일환으로 답전윤환에 있어서 논으로부터 밭1년과 밭2년차 재배에 있어 조, 수수, 기장과 벼연속구와 논-밭-논 윤환구의 벼의 생육 및 수량특성을 조사 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 조의 4품종 평균 출수소요일은 밭1년차에는 76.3일 소요되었으나, 밭2년차는 평균 70.5일 소요되어 약 6일정도 출수소요일이 짧았다. 포기당 이삭수는 밭1년차가 평균 2.2이삭이었으나, 밭2년차는 평균 3.3이삭으로 포기당 1이삭이 증가하였다. 10a 당 수량은 밭1년차가 179 kg이었으나, 밭2년차는 220.3 kg을 나타내 약 23% 증수하였다. 2. 기장 4품종의 평균 출수소요일 67일 소요되었으나, 밭2년차 기장은 평균 64.8일 소요되어 밭1년차에 비해 밭2년차가 약 2일 일찍 출수하였다. 포기당 이삭수는 밭1년차에서 4.2이삭이었던 반면 밭2년차에서는 평균 8.3이삭으로 약 4이삭이 증가하였다. 10a 당 평균수량은 밭1년차는 130.8 kg이었으나, 밭2년차는 152.8 kg으로 16.8% 증수하였다.3. 수수의 경우 5품종 평균 출수소요일은 밭1년차 68.6일 소요되었으며 밭2년차는 평균 67.4일 소요되어 큰 차이가 없었다. 수당립수는 밭1년차는 2,619.6립 이었으며, 밭2년차는 평균 2,931.6립으로 약 12% 증가하였다. 10a 당 평균 수량은 밭1년차는 231.7 kg으나, 밭2년차 평균수량은 242.3 kg으로 4.6% 증수하였다. 4. 벼연속구와 논-밭-논 윤환구에서의 벼의 생육 및 수량 특성을 보면 출수기는 차이가 없었다. 간장은 논연속구 75.6 cm에 비해서 논-밭-논 윤환구가 82.9 cm로 7.3 cm 컷으며, 수장도 논연속구에 비해 논-밭-논 윤환구가 1 cm 컷다. 포기당 이삭수는 논연속구가 20.7이삭, 논-밭-논 윤환구는 25.0이삭으로 논연속 윤환구에 비해 윤환구가 4.3 이삭 많았다. 10a당 수량은 논연속구가 479.9 kg, 논-밭-논 윤환구는 526.8 kg으로 연속구에 비해 윤환구가 9.8% 높았다.

한국에 있어서 수도해충 발생 변천에 관하여 (The Changes of Occurrence Patterns of Major Rice Insect Pests in Korea)

  • 벼신품종의 광범위한 재배는 벼해충상의 변화에 영향을 주었을 것으로 사료된다. 끝동매미충과 애멸구의 발생은 통일계 신품종의 재배면적이 많이 증가하기 시작한 1976년 이후 급격히 감소하는 경향을 보여주었다. 한편, 최근 23년간 자료를 분석한 결과 전체적인 벼해충이 급격히 감소하였으나 이화명나방은 최근에 다시 증가하는 추세를 보이고 있다. 이러한 경향은 신품종재배와 과다한 시비 및 살충제의 대량살포와 깊은 관계가 있는 것으로 분석되었다.

남부지방 탑라이스 재배지역에 알맞은 벼 품종 선발 (Selection of Rice Cultivars Adaptable to Top Rice Cultivation Region in Southern Part of Korea)

  • 2006년도 고품질 쌀로 선정된 고품벼, 운광벼, 삼광벼를 기존의 일품벼와 대비하여 의성과 경주의 탑라이스 재배지역에서 2년간 적응시험을 하여 각 품종들의 품질과 미질 특성을 조사한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 10a당 수량은 의성, 경주 모두 일품벼가 586 kg, 560 kg으로 가장 많은 수량을 보였으나, 완전미 수량은 삼광벼가 의성과 경주에서 각각 519 kg, 495 kg으로 일품벼보다 더 높은 수량을 보였다. 2. 쌀의 외형상 품위에서 완전립 비율은 삼광벼, 고품벼가 90.7%, 82.5%로 일품벼의 77.5%보다 높았다. 3. 단백질 함량은 삼광벼가 6.2%로 가장 낮았으며, 식미치에서는 삼광벼가 85.9%로 가장 높았다. 4. 쌀가루의 점도 특성에서 최고 점도는 의성의 운광벼가 3180으로 가장 높았으며, 경주의 일품벼가 2255로 가장 낮았다. 5. 밥의 물리적 특성에서 경도는 삼광벼가 평균 3174로 가장 낮았으나, 부착성이 -132로 높게 나왔다.

Effect of Expanded Rice Husk Medium on Rice Seedling for Machine Transplanting

  • Rice farmers can save labor and expenses by using expanded rice husk (ERH) as a seedling medium since ERH is lighter and cheaper than other commercial seedling media (CSM). This study was carried out to develop a method for rice seedling cultivation using ERH as a seedling medium. It is suggested that a mixture of $60\%$ of ERH and $40\%$ of a CSM could be used as a seedling medium; the planting densities would be 240g per tray for infant seedlings and 200 g for young seedlings; and nitrogen (N) would be applied at a rate of 1g per tray for infant seedlings prior to planting and 2g per tray for young seedlings with division. Great care should be taken to use $CO(NH_2)_2$ as an N-source fertilizer. These results would lay a foundation for the rice seedling cultivation with ERH as a medium.
