Investigation of Leachate Leakage in Waste Landfill by Tracer Test (추적자시험에 의한 폐기물매립장 침출수 누출조사)

  • Tracer tests were conducted to investigate leachate outflow through damaged parts on HDPE liner subject to puncture loads in a closed landfill. Natural gradient tracer test was used with two different types of tracers, iodide and Rhodamine WT. Tracers were selected under careful consideration of chemical components of leachate. Five injection wells with fourteen detection points were installed and operated throughout the test site. In this study, it is found that Iodide and Rhodamine WT are applicable and effective for leachate leakage investigation on waste landfills. Also, it is concluded that considerable amount of leachate was leaked through the rain water drain box and side wall of drain box.

  • 본 연구에서는 자연하천에서 Rhodamine-WT를 이용하여 추적자 실험을 수행하고 이를 바탕으로 오염사고대응예측모델에 대한 검증을 실시하고자 하였다. 최근 국내에서는 다양한 형태와 규모의 수질오염사고가 매년 수십건 이상 발생하고 있으며, 따라서 수치모형 기반의 수질오염 사고 대응 예측시스템에 대한 높은 신뢰성이 요구되고 있다. 수질사고에 노출되어 있는 지표수를 각종 용수로서 안전하게 공급하기 위해서는 정확한 수질예측이 필수적이며, 이를 위해서 수십 년간 연구되어 온 수질모델을 오염사고 대응예측시스템에 적합하도록 정확성과 신뢰성을 갖추기 위한 연구가 진행되어야 한다. 수치 모형을 이용한 물질의 이송 및 확산 모의에서는 오염물질 도달시간과 확산 농도를 결정하는 것이 가장 중요한 요소이므로 이송 및 확산 모의에 대한 검증 기법 개발 및 적용이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 낙동강수계 지류하천인 감천에서 추적자 실험을 4회 실시하여 측정한 수리량과 농도 실측치를 이용하여 분산계수를 종 횡분산계수 산정이 가능한 2차원 유관추적법을 적용하여 산정하였다. 각 단면에 유속은 ADV-3차원 유속계인 Flow-Tracker를 사용하여 도섭으로 측정하였으며 하천의 흐름 방향의 직각으로 측선을 설치하고 펌프를 이용하여 채수를 한 다음 Rhodamie WT의 농도를 측정하였으며 측선의 위치 보정은 GPS를 통하여 보정하였다. 측정 자료를 이용하여 2차원 유관추적법으로 분산계수를 산정한 결과 각각의 측선에 따라서 다소 차이가 발생하였으며, 일부 구간에서는 이론식으로 계산한 분산계수와 근사한 값이 나타났다. 이는 사주가 매우 발달하고 만곡이 많은 실험구간의 특성상 Elder와 Fischer 식으로 계산한 값과 차이가 발생할 가능성이 높은 구간이기 때문인 것으로 판단된다. 또한 하폭에 대한 수심비가 커질수록 분산계수도 증가하고 평균유속에 대한 전단유속에 비에 비례하는 것으로 나타났다.

Effect of Graphene Oxide Addition to Tin Oxide Aerogel for Photocatalytic Rhodamine B Degradation (주석산화물 에어로겔의 Graphene Oxide 첨가에 따른 광촉매적 Rhodamine B 분해)

  • SnO2 has the wide bandgap which allows it to be used as the photocatalyst. There are many studies to enhance the photocatalytic properties of SnO2. In this study, 3-dimensional SnO2 aerogel was synthesized using epoxide-initiated sol-gel method for the optimal specific surface area. Also, graphene oxide (GO) was added before the gelation process of the aerogel to maximize the specific surface area. Addition of 0.5 wt% of GO would possibly enhance the specific surface area by 1.7 times compared with the bare tin oxide aerogel. Furthermore, enhanced specific surface area could degrade 67.3% of initial Rhodamine B in 120 minutes. To compare with the bare SnO2 aerogel, 0.5 wt% GO addition to SnO2 could double the reaction rate of the photocatalytic degradation.

A Study of Hydrodynamic Dispersions in the Unsaturated and the Saturated Zone of a Multi-soil Layer Deposit Using a Continuous Injection Tracer Test (복합토양층의 불포화대와 포화대에서 연속주입 추적자시험을 이용한 수리분산특성 연구)

  • Using a continuous injection tracer test at a multi-soil layer deposit, the difference of hydrodynamic dispersions in unsaturated and saturated zones were analyzed through breakthrough curves of Rhodamine WT, linear regression of concentration versus time, concentration variation rates versus time, and concentration ratio according to the distance from injection well. As a result of continuous injection tracer test, the difference of the maximum concentrations of Rhodamine WT in unsaturated and saturated zones were 13-15 times after 160 hours, and the increased rate of concentration versus time in unsaturated zone was about 10 times higher than in saturated zone. The fluctuation of Rhodamine WT breakthrough curve and concentration variation rate with time in saturated zone were larger than in unsaturated zone. Rhodamine WT concentration ratio with the distance from the injection well in saturation zone was linearly decreased faster than in unsaturated zone, and the elapsed time necessary for the concentration ratio less than 2 was longer in saturation zone. The differences resulted from the lower concentration and slower hydrodynamic dispersion of Rhodamine WT at the saturation zone of the multi-soil layer deposit, in which groundwater flow significantly flow and aquifer materials have high hydraulic heterogeneity. Effective porosity, longitudinal and transverse dispersivities were estimated $10.19{\sim}10.50%,\;0.80{\sim}1.98m$ and $0.02{\sim}0.04m$, respectively. The field longitudinal dispersivity is over 12 times larger than the laboratory longitudinal dispersivity by the scale-dependent effect.

현장추적자시험에 의한 폐기물매립장 침출수 유출경로 규명

  • 폐기물매립장에서의 침출수 유출을 확인하고 경로를 파악하기 위해 추적자시험이 실시되었다. 추적자는 요오드와 Rhodamine WT를 이용하였으며, 추적자는 T-2, 4, 5공에서 주입하였다. 관측지점으로는 매립장내 우수관 출구와 측면배수구에서 모니터링 하였으며, 또한 주입공 하부의 9개 지하수공에서 모니터링 하였다. T-4, T-2와 T-5 지하수공에서 요오드와 Rhodamine WT 용액을 주입한 추적자시험 결촤 매립장의 바닥 차수막이 파손되어 침출수가 우수관내로 유출되고 있음이 입증되었으며, 또한 매립장내의 투수성이 매우 높아 일반적인 자연상태에 비해 매립장에서 우수관내로의 침출수 유입이 매우 빠름을 알 수 있었다. T-4와 T-2 지하수공에서 실시된 추적자시험에서 매립장의 차수벽 하부에 위치한 B-5와 B-6공에서 다량의 추적자가 관측되어 하부차수벽을 통해 침출수가 유출되고 있음이 확인되었다. 본 현장에서 실시된 추적자시험을 통해 매립장에서의 침출수 유출은 매우 빠른 속도로 발생하고 있으며, 또한 주 유출경로로는 T-4와 T-5 지하수공 주변의 바닥차수막과 매립장의 하부차수벽을 통해 유출 되어지고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

Feasibility of Granular Activated Charcoal as a Detector in Fluorescent Tracer Tests (입상 활성탄을 이용한 형광물질 추적자시험 적용성 연구)

  • In recent tests using tracer have been frequently conducted by fluorescent tracers. In this study, granular activated charcoal (GAC) as a detector for the fluorescent tracers (rhodamine WT and uranine) was investigated through laboratory and field tests. In the laboratory tests, tracer concentrations of rhodamine WT and uranine determined by the GAC were slightly different from those of standard solutions but they were excellent in linearity. Results show that GAC is excellent as tracer detector when concentration of the fluorescent tracers is greater than 10 & micro; g/L whileas no obvious differences in mixed solutions of the two tracers due to interferences. Compared to conventional methods of water sampling, field results shows a high potential of GAC as a tracer in the field. Our results also show that wet analysis is better for the lower concentrations of tracers whileas dry analysis is good for high concentrations of tracers. This study demonstrates that fluorescent tracer detection using the GAC is very useful and economical for a hydraulic connection between target areas and very longer period of the tracer test.

Assessing the Influence Radius of a Water Treatment System Installed in a Reservoir Using Tracer Experiment and 3D Numerical Simulation (추적자 실험 및 3차원 수치모의를 이용한 저수지 수처리 장치의 영향반경 평가)

  • The objective of this study was to evaluate the radius of influence of effluent of water treatment system developed for the purpose of improvement of reservoir water quality using fluorescent dye (Rhodamine-WT) tracer experiment and 3-D numerical model. The tracer experiment was carried out in a medium-sized agricultural reservoir with a storage capacity of $227,000m^3$ and an average depth of 1.6 m. A guideline with a total length of 160 m was installed at intervals of 10 m in the horizontal direction from the discharge part, and a Rhodamine measurement sensor (YSI 6130, measurement range $0-200{\mu}g/L$) was used to measure concentration changes in time, distance, and depth. Experimental design was established in advance through Jet theory and the diffusion process was simulated using ELCOM, a three dimensional hydraulic dynamics model. As a result of the study, the direct effect radius of the jet emitted from the applied water treatment system was about 50-70 m, and the radius of physical effect by the advection diffusion was judged to be 100-120 m. The numerical simulations of effluent advection-diffusion of the water treatment system using ELCOM showed very similar results to those of the impact radius analysis using the tracer experiment and jet flow empirical equations. The results provide valuable information on the spatial extent of the water quality improvement devices installed in the reservoir and the facility layout design.

Synthesis of solar light responsive ZnO/TaON photocatalysts and their photocatalytic activity (태양광 응답형 ZnO/TaON 나노 복합체의 제조 및 광촉매 특성 평가)

  • The effects of the preparation conditions of ZnO-modified TaON on the photocatalytic activity for degradation of rhodamine B dye (Rh. B) under simulated solar light were investigated. The ZnO/TaON nanocomposite were prepared by loading particulate $Ta_2O_5$ with ZnO using different ZnO contents, followed by thermal nitridation at 1123 K for 5 h under $NH_3$ flow (20 ml min.1). The asprepared samples were characterized by XRD, UV-Vis-DRS, and SEM-EDX. The results revealed that the band gap energy absorption edge of as prepared nanocomposite samples was shifted to a longer wavelength as compared to ZnO and $Ta_2O_5$, and the 60 wt% ZnO/TaON nanocomposite exhibited the highest percentage (99.2 %) of degradation of Rh. B and the highest reaction rate constant ($0.0137min^{-1}$) in 4 h which could be attributed to the enhanced absorption of the ZnO/TaON nanocomposite photocatalyst. Hence, these results suggest that the ZnO/TaON nanocomposite exhibits enhanced photocatalytic activity for the degradation of rhodamine B under simulated solar light irradiation in comparison to the commercial ZnO, $Ta_2O_5$, and TaON.

Predicting Reaeration Rate in Rural Small Streams (농촌 소하천의 재폭기 계수 추정(지역환경 \circled2))

  • In this study, using modified tracer method(Constant Rate Injection, CRI method), reaeration rates were measured in the territories of Bokha stream. In case of Kwanri stream, reaeration rates of a diversion were measured simultaneously. Propane gas and Rhodamine-WT were used as gas and dye tracer, respectively. The experimental results show that reaeration rates of the stream were ranged from 6.16 to 24.52 1/day and those of a diversion in Kwanri stream were ranged from 28.39 to 123.61 1/day. It is resulted that mean velocity of stream is a dominant factor in reaeration process and diversion significantly influence on reareation process.
