ER브레이크 작동기를 이용한 능동 장력 제어 (Active Tension Control Using an ER Brake Actuator)

  • This paper presents a proof-of-concept investigation on an active tension control using an ER (electro-rheological) brake actuator. Firstly, an ERF (electro-rheological fluid) which has an inherent reversible feature from Newtonian fluid to Bingham fluid upon applying an electric field is composed, and its property is tested to obtain intrinsic parameters of the Bingham model. An appropriate size of the ER brake is manufactured on the basis of the Bingham model, and dynamic characteristics of the brake are experimentally identified. After formulating a governing equation of motion of the tension control system, a sliding mode controller is designed to achieve a certain desired level of tension. Both simulation and experimental works are undertaken in order to demonstrate the efficiency and feasibility of the proposed active tension control method.

Influence of viscous phenomena on steel-concrete composite beams with normal or high performance slab

  • The aim of the paper is to present some results about the influence of rheological phenomena on steel-concrete composite beams. Both the cases of slab with normal and high performance concrete for one and two-span beams are analysed. A new finite element model that allows taking into account creep, shrinkage and cracking in tensile zones for concrete, along with non-linear behaviour of connection, steel beam and reinforcement, has been used. The main parameters that affect the response of the composite beam under the service load are highlighted. The influence of shrinkage on the slip over the supports is analysed, together with the cracking along the beam. At last, by performing a collapse analysis after a long-term analysis, the influence of rheological phenomena on the ductility demand of connection and reinforcement is analysed.

전기유동유체를 이용한 실린더형 밸브의 성능 고찰 (Performance Investigation of a Cylindrical Valve Featuring Electro-Rheological Fluids)

  • A multi-cylindrical hydraulic valve incorporating with an electro-rheological(ER) fluid is developed in this study. Field-dependent Bingham properties of the ER fluid are exploited to devise the valve system which features fast system response as well as simple mechanism. The fast response is accrued from almost instant response characteristics of the ER fluid itself, and the mechanism configuration is simplified since no nechanically moving parts are required. The material properties of the ER fluids to be utilized for modeling of the proposed valve system are firstly tested with a couette-type electroviscometer. The design and manufacturing processes are then undertaken on the basis of model parameters. The performance characteristics of the valve system are evaluated in terms of pressure variations with respect to the intensity of employed electric fields and flow rates.

Effect of Milk Protein Isolate/κ-Carrageenan Conjugates on Rheological and Physical Properties of Whipping Cream: A Comparative Study of Maillard Conjugates and Electrostatic Complexes

  • With increasing consumer demand for "clean label" products, the use of natural ingredients is required in the food industry. Protein/polysaccharide complexes are considered good alternatives to synthetic emulsifiers and stabilizers for formulating stable emulsion-based foods. Milk protein and carrageenan are widely used to improve the physical properties and stability of dairy food products. In a previous study, milk protein isolate (MPI) was conjugated with 𝛋-carrageenan (𝛋-Car) in a wet-heating system through the Maillard reaction, and the Maillard conjugates (MC) derived from MPI and 𝛋-Car effectively improved the stability of oil-in-water emulsions. Therefore, MPI/𝛋-Car conjugates were used in whipping cream as natural emulsifiers in this study, and the physical and rheological properties of whipping creams stabilized using MPI/𝛋-Car MC and MPI/𝛋-Car electrostatic complexes (EC) were investigated. The whipping creams stabilized with MPI/𝛋-Car MC have lower rheological parameters (ηa,50, K, G', and G'') than those of whipping creams stabilized with MPI/𝛋-Car EC. Although the overrun value was slightly reduced owing to the addition of MPI/𝛋-Car MC, the stability of the whipped creams with MC was effectively improved due to enhanced water-holding ability by conjugation.

EPB 쉴드 TBM 굴착토의 유동학적 특성 평가를 위한 실내 가압 베인시험: 장비 개발과 적용성 평가 (A laboratory pressurized vane test for evaluating rheological properties of excavated soil for EPB shield TBM: test apparatus and applicability)

  • 쏘일 컨디셔닝(soil conditioning)은 굴착토의 전단강도를 감소시키고 작업성(workability)을 확보하여, EPB 쉴드 TBM의 굴진면 전방을 지지하며 TBM의 굴진 성능을 향상시키는 기술이다. 다양한 지반 조건에 대한 최적의 첨가제 주입 조건을 결정하기 위해서는 첨가제를 혼합한 굴착토의 역학적 유동학적 거동을 평가해야 한다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 TBM 챔버 내 압력 상태를 모사하고 시료의 유동학적 특성을 평가할 수 있는 실내 가압 베인시험 장비를 개발하였다. 인공 사질토 시료에 대하여 폼(foam)과 폴리머(polymer)의 주입변수인 FIR (foam injection ratio)과 PIR (polymer injection ratio)을 변화시켜가며 일련의 실내 가압 베인시험을 수행하였다. 또한, 슬럼프 시험을 통해 컨디셔닝된 흙의 작업성을 평가하였다. 실내 가압 베인시험 장비를 통해 베인 전단시험을 수행함으로써 측정된 토크 데이터로부터 컨디셔닝된 흙의 유동곡선(rheogram)을 도출하여 주입변수에 따른 첨두응력과 항복응력의 경향을 분석하였다. 시험 결과, FIR이 커지거나 PIR이 작아질수록 작업성이 증가하는 경향을 나타냈으며, 최대 토크, 첨두응력과 항복응력은 모두 감소하였다. 실내 가압 베인시험으로 측정된 시료의 첨두응력과 항복응력이 슬럼프 시험을 통해 측정된 작업성과 상응하는 결과는 제안된 시험이 굴착토 물성 평가에 활용될 수 있음을 보여준다.

배합요인이 자기충전 콘크리트의 워커빌리티 및 레올로지 파라미터에 미치는 영향 분석 (Effect Analysis of Mix Designing Factors on Workability and Rheological Parameters of Self-Compacting Concrete)

  • 본 연구에서는 SCC의 높은 민감성으로 인한 품질관리에 어려움을 극복하고자 굵은 골재의 부피, 잔골재의 종류, 단위수량, 공기량, 증점제 사용량 변화 등과 같은 다양한 배합요인이 SCC 특성에 미치는 영향을 분석하여 SCC의 초기물성을 정량적으로 판단할 수 있는 기초자료를 제공하고자 하였다. 실험결과, 항복응력은 굵은 골재 용적율이 증가할수록 낮아졌고 증점제 사용량이 증가할수록 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 단위수량, 잔골재 종류 변화, 공기량 증감에 따른 항복응력값의 변화는 없는 것으로 나타났다. 배합요인에 따른 소성 점도는 항복응력과 비슷한 경향을 나타냈다. 또한 항복응력과 슬럼프 플로, $T_{50}$, V-lot와의 상관성 분석결과, 상관관계가 없었고 소성 점도와 $T_{50}$, V-lot와의 상관성은 매우 밀접한 관계가 있는 것으로 나타났는데, 특히, $T_{50}$ 및 V-lot 시간이 줄어들수록 소성 점도도 낮아지는 것을 알 수 있었다.

중유동 콘크리트 제조를 위한 레올로지 성능 범위 제안 (A Sugeestion of Rheological Performance Range for Manufacturing Mid-workability Concrete)

  • 본 연구에서는 중유동 콘크리트 제조를 위해 기존의 재료분리 판정법과 레올로지 정수를 활용하여 콘크리트 재료분리 상황을 정의하고자 하였다. 중유동 콘크리트는 일반강도 범위의 비교적 높은 물시멘트비 조건에서 높은 유동성을 발현하는 조건으로 고성능 감수제를 사용하면서 재료분리를 제어하는 것이 매우 중요하다. 이에 본 연구조건에서는 고형분량이 다른 두 가지 고성능 감수제를 사용하여 일반강도 콘크리트 배합의 유동성을 증진시키면서 재료분리가 발생하기 시작하는 범위의 유동특성과 레올로지 정수의 변화에 대해 관찰하였다. 기존의 레올로지를 이용한 유동성 측정연구는 고유동성을 확보한 조건에서 측정되어야 했기 때문에 재료분리가 발생하는 조건은 측정의 대상에서 제외되었던 경우가 많았다. 본 연구에서는 재료분리가 발생하기 시작하는 상태의 콘크리트 배합조건에서 기존의 재료분리 판정법이나 관찰에 의한 방법으로는 아직 재료분리에 이르르지 않았다고 판단되더라도 레올로지 측정 정수인 소성점도와 정적 항복응력 측정값에서 이상측정값이 관찰되는 것을 확인하였다. 이러한 결과가 콘크리트에 있어서 재료분리가 발생하는 조건을 레올로지적으로 정의할 수 있는 기초적인 자료를 제공할 것으로 판단한다.

Sensitivity and accuracy for rheological simulation of cement-based materials

  • The flow of freshly mixed cement-based material shows thixotropy, which implies some difficulties on robust measurement of its rheological properties: The flow curve of thixotropic materials depends on the used protocol. For examples, higher viscosity is obtained when the rate of shear strain is more quickly increased. Even though precise measurement and modelling of the concrete rheology needs to consider the thixotropic effect, engineers in the concrete field prefer considering as a non-thixotropic Herschel-Bulkley fluid, even more simply Bingham fluid. That is due to robustness of the measurement and application in casting process. In the aspect of simplification, this papers attempts to mimic the thixoropic flow by the non-thixotropic Herschel-Bulkley model. Disregarding the thixotropy of cement based materials allows us to adopt the rheological concept in the field. An optimized protocol to measure the Bingham parameters was finally found based on the accuracy and reproducibility test of cement paste samples, which minimizes the error of simulation stemming from the assumption of non-thixotropy.

Free vibration analysis of magneto-rheological smart annular three-layered plates subjected to magnetic field in viscoelastic medium

  • Magneto-rheological fluids and magneto-strictive materials are of the well-known smart materials which are used to control and reduce the vibrations of the structures. Vibration analysis of a smart annular three-layered plate is provided in this work. MR fluids are used as the core's material type and the face sheets are made from MS materials and is assumed they are fully bonded to each other. The structure is rested on visco-Pasternak foundation and also is subjected to a transverse magnetic field. The governing motion equations are derived based on CPT and employing Hamilton's principle and are solved via GDQ as a numerical method for various boundary conditions. Effect of different parameters on the results are considered and discussed in detail. One of the salient features of this work is the consideration of MR fluids as the core, MS materials as the faces, and all of them under magnetic field. The outcomes of this study may be led to design and create smart structures such as sensors, actuators and also dampers.

Effects of Carboxymethyl Chitosan on Yield and Whey Protein Loss in Cottage Cheese

  • A standard $1\%$ w/v solution of CM-chitosan made from squid pen was added to milk at levels of $0.5\sim3\%$ (v/v) to improve the yield and rheological properties of cottage cheese by whey protein retention. Cheese curd did not form at levels higher than $3\%$ (v/v) CM-chitosan standard solution. Yield and total protein of cottage cheese increased up to $2\%\;by\;11\;to\;42\%\;and\;17\;to\;38\%$ respectively, compared to control cheese. Whey protein losses were decreased by 11 to $42\%$ and thus accounted for all of the increase in yield. Anomalous results were obtained at the $0.8\%$ level, which neither improved yield or whey protein retention nor stabilized rheological parameters, and at the $0.5\%$ level, which improved yield and total protein without increasing whey protein retention. Elasticity and cohesiveness of CM-chitosan-containing cheese were generally improved and stabilized during storage. Monitoring of cheese chromaticity values for four weeks revealed a delay in the onset of yellowing in cheeses with CM-chitosan compared to the controls, while the concentration of added CM-chitosan had little influence on cheese chromaticity. The addition of CM-chitosan solution could be applied directly to industrial scale cottage cheese-making without the need for any modification of the production process.
