Inhibition of mouse SP2/0 myeloma cell growth by the B7-H4 protein vaccine

  • B7-H4 is a member of B7 family of co-inhibitory molecules and B7-H4 protein is found to be overexpressed in many human cancers and which is usually associated with poor survival. In this study, we developed a therapeutic vaccine made from a fusion protein composed of a tetanus toxoid (TT) T-helper cell epitope and human B7-H4IgV domain (TT-rhB7-H4IgV). We investigated the anti-tumor effect of the TT-rhB7-H4IgV vaccine in BALB/c mice and SP2/0 myeloma growth was significantly suppressed in mice. The TT-rhB7-H4IgV vaccine induced high-titer specific antibodies in mice. Further, the antibodies induced by TT-rhB7-H4IgV vaccine were capable of depleting SP2/0 cells through complement-dependent cytotoxicity (CDC) in vitro. On the other hand, the poor cellular immune response was irrelevant to the therapeutic efficacy. These results indicate that the recombinant TT-rhB7-H4IgV vaccine might be a useful candidate of immunotherapy for the treatment of some tumors associated with abnormal expression of B7-H4.

Electronic Structure and Magnetism of Ni Monolyer Embedded Between Rh Layers (Ni 단층이 삽입된 Rh 박막의 전자구조와 자성)

  • A single slab in which one Ni(001) atom layer embedded between two of four Rh layers is considered to examine the oscillation of magnetic moment in each layer. The all electron total-energy full-potential linearized augmented plane wave(FLAPW) method was used to calculate the spin densities, magnetic moments, density of states(DOS), and the number of electrons within each muffin-tin(MT) sphere. The magnetic moment of the center layer Ni(C) in the system of 4Rh/Ni/4Rh is calculated to be 0.34${\mu}_B$, which is 40% have magnetic moment at the interface layers by strong band hybridization with Ni(C) when Ni(001) monolayers is inserted, and the magnetic moment shows a damped oscillation as we go from center Ni(C) layer to the surface Rh(S). From the calculated density of states, it is found that the Fermi level shifts inside the energy band of the Ni(C) in affection of Rh(001).

Power Divider using Zero-Degree Composite Right/Left-Handed Transmission Line (0도 CRLH 전송선로를 이용한 전력 분배기)

  • This paper proposes a modified Wilkinson power divider using a zero-degree composit right/left-handed(CRLH) transmission line to obtain a isolation between ports. A zero-degree CRLH transmission line, which has a total electrical length of zero, consists of a RH(Right-Handed) transmission line of a negative phase characteristic and a LH (Left-Handed) transmission line of a positive phase characteristic. To validate a value of zero-degree CRLH transmission line, the electrical lengths of RH and LH transmission line select $-30^{\circ}$ and $+30^{\circ}$ and a 2-way Wilkinson divider designed, we are measured S21 of -3.3dB, S11 of -27.5dB and S23 of -25dB at 1GHz center frequency. These characteristics are same the conventional divider using RH transmission line.

Effects of growth characteristics of 'Nongjingo'(Lentinula edodes) according to relative humidity with sawdust cultivation (표고 톱밥재배 시 상대습도가 자실체 생육에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was investigated the growth characteristics of 'Nongjingo' cultivar(Lentinula edodes) according to relative humidity(RH). The color difference of the pileus showed the highest L(Lightness, L) value in RH65 and the a(Redness, a) value in RH95. b(Yellowness, b) values were similar in all treatments. The hardness of pileus is highest at RH95. As the relative humidity increased, the length of pileus and stipe tended to increase. The diameter and thickness of pileus were high at RH95%. The diameter of stipe could not see the big difference in the three treatment groups. This study growth characteristics and yield were increased at higher relative humidity, but quality was decreased. Therefore, must adjust the relative humidity to produce high quality mushrooms.

  • [Cp*Rh(H₂O)₃](OTf)₂ (1) reacts with a stoichiometric amount of A and B [ A = Me₃SiN₃, B = 4,4'-bipridyl, (2a), A = Me₃SiNCO, B = 4,4'-bipridyl (2b)] in acetone at room temperature for 3 h to give the supramolecular complexes [Cp*₄Rh₄(μ-A)₄(μ-B)₂] [A = Me₃SiN₃, B = 4,4'-bipridyl, (2a), A = Me₃SiNCO, B = 4,4'-bipridyl (2b)]. Complexes 2a and 2b have been structurally characterized by X-ray diffraction.

Decolorization of Rhodamine B by Electro Fenton-like Reaction (전기 펜톤-유사 반응을 이용한 Rhodamine B의 색 제거)

  • The electro-chemical decolorization of Rhodamine B (RhB) in water has been carried out by electro Fenton-like process. The effect of distance, material and shape of electrode, NaCl concentration, current, electric power, $H_2O_2$ and pH have been studied. The results obtained that decrease of RhB concentration of Fe(+)-Fe(-) electrode system was higher than that of other electrode system. The decrease of RhB concentration was not affected electrode distance and shape. Decolorization of electro Fenton-like reaction, which was added $H_2O_2$ onto the electrolysis using electrode was higher than electrolysis. Addition of NaCl decreased the electric consumption. The lower pH is, the faster initial reaction rate and reaction termination time observed.

Biosorption of Rhodamine B onto Waste Activated Sludge: Equilibrium and Kinetic Modelling (폐 활성슬러지를 이용한 Rhodamine B의 생체흡착:흡착평혀여 및 흡착속도 모델링)

  • The biosorption of dye, Rhodamine B(Rh-B), onto waste activated sludge was investigated. The biosorption capacity and contact time were shown as a simulation of dye adsorption equilibrium and kinetics models. We observed that biosorption of Rh-B occurred rapidly less than 4 hr. These experimental data could be better fitted by a pseudo-second-order rate equation than a pseudo-first-order rate equation. The equilibrium dependence between biosorption capacity and initial concentration of Rh-B was estimated and it was found that the equilibrium data of biosorption were fitted by four kinds of model such as Langmuir, Freundlich, Redlich-Peterson, and Koble-Corrigan model. The average percentage errors, $\varepsilon(\%)$, observed between experimental and predicted values by above each model were $21.19\%,\;9.97\%,\;10.10\%\;and\;11.76\%$, respectively, indicating that Freundlich and Redlich-Peterson model could be fitted more accrately than other models.

Cessation of gonadotropin-releasing hormone antagonist on triggering day in flexible multiple-dose protocol: A randomized controlled study

  • Objective: To investigate outcomes of stimulated IVF cycles in which GnRH antagonist was omitted on the ovulation triggering day. Methods: A total of 86 women who underwent controlled ovarian hyperstimulation with recombinant FSH and GnRH antagonist flexible multiple-dose protocols were recruited and prospectively randomized into the conventional group (group A) or cessation group (group B). The GnRH antagonist, 0.25 mg/day of cetrorelix, was started when the leading follicle reached 14 mm in diameter and was continuously administered until the hCG triggering day (group A, 43 cycles) or until the day before hCG administration (group B, 43 cycles). The maturity of oocytes, fertilization rate, embryo quality, and implantation and clinical pregnancy rates were evaluated. Results: The duration of ovarian stimulation, total dose of gonadotropins, serum estradiol levels on hCG administration day, and number of oocytes retrieved were not significantly different between the two groups. The total dose of GnRH antagonist was significantly lower in group B than group A ($2.5{\pm}0.9$ vs. $3.2{\pm}0.8$ ampoules, p<0.05). There was no premature luteinization in any of the subjects. The proportion of mature oocytes and fertilization rate were not significantly different in group B than group A (70.7% vs. 66.7%; 71.1% vs. 66.4%, respectively). There were no significant differences in the implantation or clinical pregnancy rates. Conclusion: Our prospective randomized study suggested that cessation of GnRH antagonist on the hCG administration day during a flexible multiple-dose protocol could reduce the total dose of GnRH antagonist without compromising its effects on pregnancy rates.

Equilibrium Moisture Content of Korean Ginseng (인삼(人蔘)의 평형함수율(平衡含水率)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • This study intended to measure the desorption and adsorption EMC of four years old Peeled ginseng, Unpeeled ginseng and Taegeuk ginseng under various conditions$20^{\circ}C$, $30^{\circ}C$, $40^{\circ}C$, $50^{\circ}C$) and five levels of relative humidity from 31% to 88%) by the static method. Four widely used EMC models were selected and evaluated. Also the empirical model was evaluated. The results are summarized as follows ; 1) EMC difference between ginseng size was not found but found between ginseng species. EMC difference between Peeled ginseng and Unpeeled ginseng was not found. EMC of Peeled ginseng and Unpeeled ginseng was higher than that of Taegeuk ginseng. 2) The hysteresis, which is difference between desorption and adsorption EMC, was found. Desorption EMC was higher than adsorption EMC. The hysteresis at the same temperature decreased as relative humidity increase. The difference of hysteresis between Peeled ginseng and Unpeeled ginseng was not large and the hysteresis of Taegeuk ginseng was smaller than those of other species. 3) Among the selected models, Henderson model was the best to predict the adsorption EMC of White ginseng(Peeled and Unpeeled ginseng), and Oswin model was the best to predict the desorption EMC of White ginseng and the desorption and adsorption EMC of Taegeuk ginseng. The models are as follows ; (a) White ginseng(Peeled and Unpeeled ginseng) ${\circ}$ Desorption EMC(Oswin model) : $$M=(0.1272-0.0007420T){\cdot}[RH/(1-RH)]^{(0.4164+0.001368T)}$$ ${\circ}$ Adsorption(Henderson model) : $$1-RH={\exp}[-0.0003480T_k\;{M_o}^{0.9231}]$$ (b) Taegeuk ginseng ${\circ}$ Desorption EMC(Oswin model) : $$M=(0.1051-0.0008439T)[RH/(1-RH)]^{(0.4553+0.003425T)}$$ ${\circ}$ Adsorption EMC(Oswin model) : $$M=(0.08247-0.0007559T){\cdot}[RH/(1-RH)]^{(0.5760+0.005540T)}$$ 4) The developed empirical models could predict the desorption and adsorption EMC for White and Taegeuk ginseng more precisely than selected models. Design and decoration of heparin on porous nanosilica via reversible disulfide linkages for controlled drug release

  • Porous nanosilica (PNS) has been identified as a potential candidate for controlled drug delivery. However, unmodified PNS-based carriers exhibited an initial release of loaded bioactive agents, which may limit their potential clinical applications. In this study, the surface of PNS was functionalized with adamantylamine (ADA) via disulfide bonds (-S-S-), PNS-S-S-ADA, which was then modified with cyclodextrin (CD)-heparin (Hep) (CD-Hep), PNS-S-S-CDH, for redox triggered rhodamine B (RhB) delivery. The obtained samples were then characterized by proton nuclear magnetic resonance ($^{1}H\;NMR$), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), and transmission electron microscope (TEM). These results showed that PNS-S-S-CDH was successfully formed with spherical shape and average diameter of $45.64{\pm}2.33nm$. In addition, RhB was relatively encapsulated in the PNS-S-S-CDH (RhB@PNS-S-S-CDH) and slowly released up to 3 days. The release of RhB, in particular, was triggered due to the cleavage of -S-S- in the presence of dithiothreitol (DTT). It might be anticipated that the modified PNS can be used as redox-responsive drug delivery system in cancer therapy.
