Prediction of retention of uncharged solutes in nanofiltration by means of molecular descriptors

  • A linear quantitative structure-property relationship (QSPR) model is presented for the prediction of rejection in permeation through membrane. The model was produced by using the multiple linear regression (MLR) technique on the database consisting of retention data of 25 pesticides in 4 different membrane separation experiments. Among the 3224 different physicochemical, topological and structural descriptors that were considered as inputs to the model only 50 were selected using several criteria of elimination. The physical meaning of chosen descriptor is discussed in detail. The accuracy of the proposed MLR models is illustrated using the following evaluation techniques: leave-one-out cross validation procedure, leave-many-out cross validation procedure and Y-randomization.

A Study on the Interconnection Mechanism of Compliant Press-Fit Pin(II) (Compliant Press-Fit Pin에 의한 접속기구에 관한 연구(II))

  • In this research, important mechanical characteristics of Compliant Press-Fit Pin and PHT are studied through the analysis of deformation mechanisms of Press-Fit Pin and by elastic-plastic finite element method. The direct data for the optimal design of pin was obtained without interfere with the criterion on insertion force and retention force. Also, the insertion force and retention force of new type pin were measured by precision type tensile testing machine and it revealed good agreement with analytical results. In conclusion, it is believed that above results will contribute satisfactorily to the practical design of Press-Fit Pin.

  • Accurate measurements of ozone precursors are required to understand the process and extent of ozone formation in rural and urban areas. Nonmethane hydrocarbons (NMHCs) have been identified as important ozone precursors. Identification and quantification of NMHCs are difficult because of the large number present and the wide molecular weight range encountered in typical air samples. A major plan of the research team of the Climate and Air Quality Taiwan Station (CATs) was the measurement of atmospheric nonmethane hydrocarbons. An analytical method has been development for the analysis of the individual nonmethane hydrocarbons in ambient air at ppb (v) and subppb(v) levels. The whole ambient air samples were collected in canisters and analyzed by GC-FID with $Al_2O_3$/KCl PLOT column. Our targeted for quantitative analysis 43 compounds that may be substantial contributors to ozone formation. The retention indices and molar response factors of some commercially available $C_2{\sim}C_{10}$ hydrocarbons were determined and used to identify and quantify air samples. A quality assurance program was instituted to ensure that good measurements were made by participating in the International Nonmethane Hydrocarbon Intercomparison Experiments (NOMHICE).

Determinants Factors Analysis of Job Retention for Injured Workers after Return-to-Work Using Recurrent Event Survival Analysis (산재근로자의 직업복귀 이후 고용유지 영향 요인 : 재발사건생존분석을 중심으로)

  • This study aims to investigate determinants that affect job retention of injured workers depending upon types of return to work in order to suggest define the intervention priority for those who returned to original works and for those who did not. After constructing explaining variables based on literature reviews, determinants were verified analyzing 1,292 people using Panel Study of Worker's Compensation Insurance(PSWCI) data. The job retention period turned out to be 46.6 months for those who returned to original work and 34.2 month for those who returned to new works. Injured workers who return to new works tend to have more unemployment experiences. As a result of Cox proportional regression analysis, the longer it takes to return to work, the longer both groups tend to retain after the accident. Age, recuperation period, health status, psycho-social rehabilitation, education and occupational training also affect on job retention probability for those who return to new work. Based upon the analyzed result, setting up an adequate duration for return-to-work, intervention for injured workers who experienced vulnerable working condition before the accident and continuous case management after return-to-work are suggested.

Factors Influencing Postoperative Urinary Retention Following Elective Posterior Lumbar Spine Surgery: A Prospective Study

  • Study Design: Prospective observational study. Purpose: To determine the incidence of postoperative urinary retention (POUR) in patients undergoing elective posterior lumbar spine surgery and identify the risk factors associated with the development of POUR. Overview of Literature: POUR following surgery can lead to detrusor dysfunction, urinary tract infections, prolonged hospital stay, and a higher treatment cost; however, the risk factors for POUR in spine surgery remain unclear. Methods: A prospective, consecutive analysis was conducted on patients undergoing elective posterior lumbar surgery in the form of lumbar discectomy, lumbar decompression, and single-level lumbar fusions during a 6-month period. Patients with spine trauma, preoperative neurological deficit, previous urinary disturbance/symptoms, multiple-level fusion, and preoperative catheterization were excluded from the study. Potential patient- and surgery-dependent risk factors for the development of POUR were assessed. Univariate analysis and a multiple logistical regression analysis were performed. Results: A total of 687 patients underwent posterior lumbar spine surgery during the study period; among these, 370 patients were included in the final analysis. Sixty-one patients developed POUR, with an incidence of 16.48%. Significant risk factors for POUR were older age, higher body mass index (BMI), surgery duration, intraoperative fluid administration, lumbar fusion versus discectomy/decompression, and higher postoperative pain scores (p<0.05 for all). Sex, diabetes, and the type of inhalational agent used during anesthesia were not significantly associated with POUR. Multiple logistical regression analysis, including age, BMI, surgery duration, intraoperative fluid administration, fusion surgery, and postoperative pain scores demonstrated a predictive value of 92% for the study population and 97% for the POUR group. Conclusions: POUR was associated with older age, higher BMI, longer surgery duration, a larger volume of intraoperative fluid administration, and higher postoperative pain scores. The contribution of postoperative pain scores in the multiple regression analysis was a significant predictor of POUR.

Analysis of Determinants of Employment Retention Rate (고용유지율 결정요인 분석)

  • This study analyzed the determinants that affect employment retention rate in order to diagnose dynamic employment stability in Korea. For this analysis, we constructed multi-level hierarchical data linking Workplace panel survey data and employment insurance job history data. And the determinants were analyzed using a multi-level analysis model suitable for these data. As result of the analysis, it is estimated that the employment stability is very low in Korea due to the widespread existence of the marginal sectors with low wage level and high level of nonstandard employment. In addition, the results of this analysis show that employment structure of Korea occupies considerable area of short-term employment where employment and unemployment are repeated, and overall employment stability is weak. This fact is likely to be a limiting factor for continued growth, as there is limited opportunity for skill development and skills formation at the corporate and individual levels. According to the results of this analysis, it is required to improve the quality of the employment structure for continuous growth and skill formation.

  • This research tried to clarify the impact of service quality on the customer satisfaction, customer retention and switching barriers in the competitive structure between department store and discount store. We measured the level of service quality by using the methodology which had been adopted in the service quality research area. Using the internet survey method, we gathered data from 750 consumers of each industry. We used various analysis methods such as the regression analysis, t-test, and hierarchical regression analysis. The results reveal different patterns in the two sectors in the retail industry with respect to switching barriers. We conclude that switching barriers play an important role in consumer satisfaction and retention.

  • The retention of customer is an increasingly pressing issue in today's competitive environment. The proposes of this paper is a personalized defection detection and the procedure of prevention based on economic analysis of customer defection possibility, and behaviour state transition cost. This procedure is based on the observation that potential defectors have a tendency to take a couple of months or weeks to gradually change their behaviour before their eventual withdrawal. In this procedure, the SOM(Self-Organizing Map) is used to determine the possible states of customer behaviour from past behaviour data, and to prevent the defection of potential defectors, the proposed procedure recommends the desirable behaviour state for the next period based on the analysis of transition cost. and likelihood of defection. The case study has been conducted for a Korean on-line game provider to evaluate of this procedure.

  • A finite element analysis was performed for new earth retention system that is a kind of truss tower with non-supported excavation. A 2D finite element model was adopted in this study to investigate the behavior of the earth retention system. Just because this non-supported truss tower system is too complex to model in 2D plain-strain condition to itself, so have to simplify it by the conception of equivalent rigidity. The horizontal displacement of the wall and lateral earth pressure distribution on the wall were computed. And it is compared with NAVFAC design manual.

  • The major pungent component from Korean radish roots was purified by reverse phase high performance liquid chromatography (RPHPLC), and characterized as 4-methylthio-3-butenyl isothiocyanate on the basis of the sensory test (pungency), UV spectrum and mass spectrum analysis. The purified isothiocyanate moved as a single peak(retention time, 5.2 min) in RP-HPLC analysis, and as a single spot(Rf, 0.9) in TLC analysis.
