Application of a discrete vortex method for the analysis of suspension bridge deck sections

  • A two dimensional discrete vortex method (DIVEX) has been developed to predict unsteady and incompressible flow fields around closed bodies. The basis of the method is the discretisation of the vorticity field, rather than the velocity field, into a series of vortex particles that are free to move in the flow field that the particles collectively induce. This paper gives a brief description of the numerical implementation of DIVEX and presents the results of calculations on a recent suspension bridge deck section. The predictions for the static section demonstrate that the method captures the character of the flow field at different angles of incidence. In addition, flutter derivatives are obtained from simulations of the flow field around the section undergoing vertical and torsional oscillatory motion. The subsequent predictions of the critical flutter velocity compare well with those from both experiment and other computations. A brief study of the effect of flow control vanes on the aeroelastic stability of the bridge is also presented and the results from DIVEX are shown to be in accordance with previous analytical and experimental studies. In conclusion, the results indicate that DIVEX is a very useful design tool in the field of wind engineering.

협동학습이 가정과목의 학습성취도와 학습태도에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Cooperative Learning Method on Learning Accomplishment and Attitude of Home Economics)

  • The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze on the result of learning accomplishment and attitude between two groups to certify the application possibility of the cooperative learning method in home economics education. This inquiry was investigated by two classes 95 students. of the first glade in high school a commercial girl’s high school located in Anyang city of Kyonggi province, and then classified in a cooperative learning group and a traditional learning group respectively, then the 6th lessons progressed, and the difference of results of the learning accomplishment and the learning attitude according to each group was analysed with the post tests of the learning accomplishment and the learning attitude of two groups. The results of this study are summarized as follows. (1) Three subordinate positions, which are knowledge, understanding and application field of learning accomplishment between the cooperative learning group and the traditional learning group. it highly and the traditional learning group it highly showed in comparison with the traditional learning group. (2) There are not any statistically significant difference in the attention- concentration field of learning attitude between the cooperative learning and the traditional learning groups, but the cooperative learning group in the learning method and the self learning field highly showed.

  • The piezoelectric properties and the doping effect for $0.95Pb(Zr_xTi_{l-x})O_3+0.O5Pb(Mn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$compositions were studied. Also, the heat generation and the change of electromechanical characteristics, the important problem in practical usage, were investigated under high electric field driving. As a experiment results under low electric field, the value of $k_p$ and ${\varepsilon}_{33}^T$ were maximized, but $Q_m$ was minimized $(k_p=0.57, Q_m=1550)$ in the composition of x=0.51. In order to increase the values of $Q_m$, $Nb_2O_5$ was used as a dopant. As the result of that, the grain size was suppressed and the uniformity of grain was improved. Also, the values of $k_p$ decreased, and the values of $Q_m$ increased with doping concentration of $Nb_2O_5$ . As a experiment results under high electric field driving, when vibration velocity was ower than 0.6[m/s], the temperature increase was 20[℃], and the change ratio of mechanical quality factor was less than 10[%]. So, its electromechanical characteristics was very stable. Conclusively, piezoelectric ceramic composition investigated at this paper is suitable for application to high power piezoelectric devices.

Low-Power and Low-Hardware Bit-Parallel Polynomial Basis Systolic Multiplier over GF(2m) for Irreducible Polynomials

  • Multiplication in finite fields is used in many applications, especially in cryptography. It is a basic and the most computationally intensive operation from among all such operations. Several systolic multipliers are proposed in the literature that offer low hardware complexity or high speed. In this paper, a bit-parallel polynomial basis systolic multiplier for generic irreducible polynomials is proposed based on a modified interleaved multiplication method. The hardware complexity and delay of the proposed multiplier are estimated, and a comparison with the corresponding multipliers available in the literature is presented. Of the corresponding multipliers, the proposed multiplier achieves a reduction in the hardware complexity of up to 20% when compared to the best multiplier for m = 163. The synthesis results of application-specific integrated circuit and field-programmable gate array implementations of the proposed multiplier are also presented. From the synthesis results, it is inferred that the proposed multiplier achieves low power consumption and low area complexitywhen compared to the best of the corresponding multipliers.

  • Hydroxygraphene as a kind of functionalized graphene has important applications in composite, photoelectric and biological materials. In the present study, THz and microfluidic technologies were implemented to study the THz transmission characteristics of hydroxygraphene with different concentrations and residence times in magnetic and electric fields. The results show that the THz transmission intensity decreases with the increase in sample concentration and duration of an applied electric field, while it increases by staying longer in the magnetic field. The phenomenon is analyzed and explained in terms of hydrogen bond, conductivity and scattering characteristics. The results establish a foundation for future research on the THz absorption characteristics of liquid graphene based on microfluidic technology in different external environments. It also provides technical support for the application and development of graphene in THz devices.

서중환경에서 표면피복 양생재 종류변화가 콘크리트의 초기 온도이력 및 균열발생에 미치는 영향에 관한 현장적용성 평가 (Field Application to Evaluate the Effect of Various Surface Covered Curing Blankets on Temperature Profile and Crack Occurrence of the Concrete under Hot Weather Condition)

  • Concrete placed under hot weather condition suffers from larger slump loss, rapid moisture evaporation due to high air temperature. Proper measures for material, transportation and curing should be taken to prevent the quality deterioration of the concrete under hot weather condition. In Korea, Although the period of hot weather concrete in Korea occupies only 2 months, there are a lot of quality problems including plastic, drying shrinkage and cold joint. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to investigate and compare the temperature history and crack occurrence of the concrete, which was placed in the actual apartment house construction field under hot weather condition, in response to the application of surface covered curing blankets including PE film, single layer clear bubble sheet, white colored bubble sheet and aluminum metalized bubble sheet. Test results indicated that the application of white colored bubble sheet and aluminum metalized bubble sheet showed most favorable results in terms of reduction in temperature rise and crack occurrence as well as easiness in handling. But, due to light reflection by aluminum metalized bubble sheet, it is believed that white colored bubble sheet is preferable.

Reflection and refraction of magneto-thermoelastic plane wave at the pre-stressed liquid-solid interface in generalized thermoelasticity under three theories

  • The thermomagnetic effect on plane wave propagation at the liquid-solid interface with nonclassical thermoelasticity is investigated. It is assumed that liquid-solid half-space is under initial stress. Numerical computations are performed for the developed amplitude ratios of P, SV and thermal waves under Cattaneo-Lord-Shulman theory, Green-Lindsay theory and classical thermoelasticity. The system of developed equations is solved by the application of the MATLAB software at different angles of incidence for Green and Lindsay model. The effect of initial stress and magnetic field in the lower half-space are discussed and comparison is made in LS, GL and CT models of thermoelasticity. In the absence of magnetic field, the obtained results are in agreement with the same results obtained by the relevant authors. This study would be useful for magneto-thermoelastic acoustic device field.

  • This paper reports some results of an experimental investigation of planar double injection magnetic sensors. The threshold voltage proved to be very sensitive to an applied magnetic field. The magnitude and direction of the threshold voltage variation depends on the field strength and its orientation with respect to the conduction chennel. The positively-directed field pushes the carriers into the bulk causing an increase in the threhold voltage. These results seem to agree with a path modulation due to Lorentz force. The application of a negative field causes a negative variation, which is dependent on the surface recombination velocity of the silicon-$SiO_2$ interface.

Path Planning for Autonomous Mobile Robot using Potential Field

  • The popularity of autonomous mobile robots have been rapidly increasing due to their new emerging application areas, from room cleaning, tourist guidance to space explorations. However, the development of a satisfactory control algorithm that will enable the autonomous mobile robots to navigate safely especially in dynamic environments is still an open research problem. In this paper, a newly proposed potential field based control method is implemented, analyzed, and improvements are suggested based on experimental results obtained from simulations. The experimental results are presented to show the effectiveness of the behavior-based control using the proposed potential field generation technique.

광산 비포장도로 상태 조사를 위한 스마트폰 애플리케이션 개발 (Development of a Smartphone Application to Investigate Unsurfaced Road Conditions in Mines)

  • 광산에서 효율적이고 안전한 운반 작업을 수행하기 위해서는 덤프트럭이 이동하는 비포장도로의 상태를 정기적으로 점검하고, 그 결과에 따라 체계적인 유지보수를 시행해야 한다. 본 연구에서는 광산의 비포장도로 상태를 주기적으로 조사하는데 사용될 수 있는 스마트폰 애플리케이션을 개발하였다. 개발된 애플리케이션을 사용하면 미국 육군 공병대에서 개발한 Unsurfaced Road Condition Index(URCI) 평가 체계에 따라 필요한 정보를 현장에서 쉽게 수집하고, 비포장도로의 상태를 정량적으로 평가할 수 있다. 부산 일광광산 비포장도로 일부 구간의 조사를 위해 개발된 애플리케이션을 적용하였다. 그 결과 URCI 평가 체계에서 고려되는 7가지 인자들을 사용자 인터페이스 화면을 통해 손쉽게 조사하고, 현장에서 URCI 값을 빠르게 계산하여 비포장도로의 상태를 평가할 수 있었다. 본 연구에서 개발한 스마트폰 애플리케이션은 광산현장의 비포장도로의 상태 조사 및 평가를 위해 유용하게 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
