  • Reinforced concrete buildings damaged by earthquake which can be reused can ensure the stability in its structure by repair-restrengthening, but when such a repair-restrengthening is conducted inappropriately or its structural strength is greatly reduced by earthquake again, it should have repair-restrengthening. This study selects beam-column joints which are vulnerable to earthquake as the object of experiment, performs repair-restrengthening after applying the first and the second dynamic loading to the objects of experiment, examines the capacity of restrengthening according to structural characteristics and loading velocity and verifys the validity of repair-restrengthening.

  • Various failure modes occur in the concrete beams reinforced with GFRP(Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic) under initial condition and repairing patterns. In this study, the failure behaviors of concrete beams restrengthened with GFRP sheet with slightly higher elastic modulus than concrete were investigated. For the tests, concrete beams with 24 MPa were manufactured, and the effects of initial notch, overlapping, end-strip reinforcement, and fiber anchors were analyzed on failure load. The cases of GFRP overlap around notch and the initial notch showed increasing failure loads similar to those of normal restrengthened case since the epoxy of the saturated GFRP sufficiently repaired the notch area. Compared to the control case without restrengthening of GFRP, the concrete with initial notch showed 0.78 of loading ratio and normal restrengthening showed 4.43~5.61 times of increasing ratio of failure loading, where interface-debonding from flexural crack were mainly observed. The most ideal failure behavior, break of GFRP, was observed when end-strip over 1/3 height from bottom and fiber anchor were installed, which showed increasing failure load over 150 % to normal restrengthening.

  • When applying FES to patients, proper evaluation must be performed prior to treating patient. Patients with thoracic lesions between $T_4{\sim}T_{12}$ are suitable for FES. However, these patients must have excitability of the leg muscles. Thus, excitability testing is an essential part of the screening program(stimulation at 80V gives a response). Before standing or walking is attempted the patients must perform restrengthening exercise, so that the Quadriceps muscle group minimum strength is 40 Nm (corresponding to a manual grade of F+ to G). After that walking and standing can be attempted. The effects of FES are as follows: prevents pressure sores; development and maintenance of muscle properties; prevents disuse atrophy and contractures.

  • Temporal change of a warm eddy off Sogcho was studied using satellite infrared images from January to lune 1992 and its structure was investigated by the observations in Hay. There were two kinds of event for eddy formation. IR images in January indicated that the eddy Haying a horizontal dimension of about 200km was first formed by an injection of warm water. After some deformation and cooling processes the second restrengthening event took place in late March when a warm filament began to penetrate northward and circumvented the preexisting eddy. This eddy became a complete ring-shape with cooled water arrested inside from April to May. The maximum thickness of the isothermal subsurface layer with temperature of $10.0-10.4^{\circ}C$ was about 170m. Except that the current velocity was about 80cm/sec near the axis of the last Korea Warm Current close to Sogcho, the interior of the eddy had an anticyclonic motion with overall swirl velocity of 30-50cm/sec. Velocity rapidly decreased vertically below the main thermocline.
