  • The study was conducted to find out the harvesting time, storage duration, cold treatment and sterilization on seed germination of Miscanthus sinensis. The optimum harvesting time of the Miscanthus seed in native to Jeju island was December. And the seed germination passible 3 years after harvesting. When the seeds had cold treatment, seed germination nate was 74% rather than 63% of non-treatment. For seed sterilization treatment, soaking in solution of Benomyl 7% during from 3 hours to 12 hours germinated 9% over. But the non-treatment on 24 hours treatment reduced the seed germination of Miscanthus sinensis.

  • The standard definition of computational vision is a set of inverse problems of recovering surfaces from images. Thus the common characteristics of the most early vision problems are ill-posed. The main idea for solving ill-posed problems is to restrict the class of admissible solutions by introducing suitable a priori knowledge. Standard regurarization methods lead to satisfactory solutions of early vision problems but cannot deal effectively and directly with a few general problems, such as discontinuity and fusion of information from multiple modules. In this paper, we discuss limitations of standard regularization theory and present new stochastic method. We will outline a rigorous approach to overcome part of ill-posedness of image restoration, edge detection, and stereo vision problems, based on Bayes estimation and MRF(Markov random field) model, that effectively deals with the problems. This result makes one hope that this framework could be useful in the solution of other vision problems.

  • pH varies in the oral environment and on tooth surfaces. The surface of a plaque covered resinous restoration has a low pH. In human dental plaque a number of acids are produced by bacterial metabolism. The predominant acids are acetic, propionic and lactic acids. These acids induced a surface swelling of restorative resin. The swelling cause formation of pores inside the resin matrix from which organic substances can be released, resulting in a mass loss. The purpose of this study was to qualitatively and quantitatively analyse the leached monomers of dental composites after storage in acetate buffer solution as a function of time by means of high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) / mass spectrometer and further determine whether pH and time has any influence on the degradation behavior of composite restoration.(omitted)

  • In this research, we propose a new efficient iterative method for fixed point problems of generalized α-nonexpansive mappings. We show the weak and strong convergence analysis of the proposed method under some mild assumptions on the control parameters. We consider the application of the new method to some real world problems such as convex minimization problems, image restoration problems and impulsive fractional differential equations. We carryout a numerical experiment to show the computational advantage of our method over some well known existing methods.

  • In this paper, we propose a spatially adaptive image restoration algorithm using local and statistics and estimated noise. The ratio of local mean, variance, and maximum values with different window size is used to constrain the solution space, and these parameters are computed at each iteration step using partially restored image. In addition, the additive noise estimated from partially restored image and the local constraints are used to determine a parameter for controlling the degree of local smoothness on the solution. The resulting iterative algorithm exhibits increased convergence speed when compared to the non-adaptive algorithm. In addition, a smooth solution with a controlled degree of smoothness is obtained without a prior knowledge about the noise. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm requires the similar iteration number to converge, but there is the improvement of SNR more than 0.2 dB comparing to the previous approach.

  • The Ministry of Environment has been working to reduce the impact on biodiversity, ecosystems, and social costs caused by soil runoff from highland Agricultural fields by setting up non-point pollution source management districts. To reduce soil loss, runoff path reduction technology has been applied, but it has been less cost effective. In addition, non-point pollution sources cause environmental conflicts in downstream areas, and recently highland Agricultural fields are becoming vulnerable to climate change. The Ministry of Environment is promoting the optimal management plan in earnest to convert arable land into forests and grasslands, but since non-point pollution is not a simple environmental problem, it is necessary to approach it from the aspect of NbS(Nature-Based Solution). In this study, a scenario for applying the nature-based solution was established for three subwatersheds west of Haean-myeon, Yanggu-gun, Gangwon-do. The soil loss distribution was spatialized through GeoWEPP and the amount of soil loss was compared for the non-point pollution reduction effect of mixed forests and grasslands. When cultivated land with a slope of 20% or more and ginseng fields were restored to perennial grasslands and mixed forests, non-point pollution reduction effects of about 32% and 29.000 tons compared to the current land use were shown. Also, it was confirmed that mixed forest rather than perennial grassland is an effective nature-based solution to reduce non-point pollution.

  • Yeonpyo-beob is a method of manufacturing pigments using bamboo trunk and glue solution. Glue solutions of concentrations 1, 5, and 10% were employed to manufacture pigments, and the characteristics of pigment manufacturing were analyzed according to these concentrations. The pigment manufacturing process can be divided into holding and drying phases. The holding phase involves the sedimentation of relatively large particles, whereas the drying phase involves the sedimentation of small particles. The layers formed during the drying phase have almost similar forms regardless of the concentration of the glue solution. If the concentration of the glue solution is low in the holding phase, the particles are mixed and the formation of a layer is difficult. In contrast, when the concentration of the glue solution is higher, the layer of the pigment is more distinct. These results confirmed that the differences in viscosity due to the variation in the concentration of the glue solution affect the sedimentation velocity of the pigment particles, thereby affecting the formation of the layer of the pigment and the pigment manufacture. Consequently, applying 10% glue solution to reduce the sediment velocity is deemed suitable for the stratification of the pigment particles and the manufacture of pigments.

  • Seawater desalination is doubtlessly a viable option to supply fresh drinking water. Nevertheless, RO (reverse osmosis) desalination plants in specific areas may be intermittently operated to match the imbalance between water demand and supply. Although a handful of works have been done on other membrane systems, few studies have attempted to mitigate fouling in intermittent RO systems. Accordingly, the objectives of this paper were to examine the effect of the intermittent operation on RO fouling; and to compare four intermittent operation modes including feed solution recirculation, membrane storage in the feed solution, deionized water (DI) recirculation, and membrane storage in DI water. Results showed that intermittent operation reduced RO fouling under several conditions. However, the extents of fouling mitigation were different depending on the feed conditions, foulant types, and membrane lay-up methods. When the feed solution was recirculated during the lay-up, the restoration of the flux was less significant than that by the feed solution feed-up. The use of deionized water during the lay-up was effective to restore flux, especially when the feed solution contains scale-forming salts (CaSO4) and/or colloidal silica.

  • This study aimed to develop materials to compensate for problems of restoration for lost parts and material problems in the conservation treatment. First, there are several problems with existing materials as follows: secondary damage due to the high shrinkage rate and low adhesive strength, sense of difference due to the severe yellowing, remelting due to irreversibility of materials, processability due to the high strength, sag due to the prolonged setting time in the work process and surface contamination of artifacts due to tools or gloves. In order to solve these problems, this study set developmental goals after understanding the types and physical properties based on epoxy resin among the currently used restoration materials of pottery and earthenware. The developed epoxy resin is epoxy putty, which is cured within 5 minutes, for earthenware restoration. In the earthenware restoration method, the epoxy putty enhanced the workability by quickly curing in paste form and compensated disadvantages such as surface contamination. In addition, the use of white micro-balloon for the epoxy stock solution made coloring easier and weight lighter, and a restoration material with low shrinkage and superior processability was developed.

  • This is a study to generate a theoretical base for the development of wildlife corridor as a solution to the problems of wildlife population size reduction and declining bio-diversity resulting from the fragmented habitats caused by road constructions. This study seeks to examine and define techniques in very aspect of wildlife corridor including planning, site selection, design and development, and maintenance through an actual application. The results of this study are as follows. 1) The wildlife corridor should be developed in an approach supplementing a landscape ecological approach and a restoration ecological approach bilaterally. To this end, systematic methodology and process are required. 2) It was restored an ecosystem as close as possible go to the forest ecosystem before road development. In addition, in order to allow it to function as an ecological corridor, topography restoration, stream development, and ecological plantation were implemented. 3) The result of monitoring activities that continued for one year since the development confirmed the migration and inhabitation of a number of animals including small mammals. It is judged that it functions as a corridor in fragmented habitats as initially expected. 4) Through continuous monitoring in the future, the effects of corridor development on ecological restoration need to be reviewed in a long-term perspective. There is also a need to develop and refine a comprehensive maintenance plan for wildlife corridors and their surroundings. Based on such study results, actual data on the development of wildlife corridor should be accumulated. In follow-up studies, after continuous monitoring for a long period of time, the effects of wildlife corridor development should be evaluated comprehensively and wildlife corridor applicable to Korea should be standardized by correcting disclosed problems.
