  • Objective: To investigate the efficacy and side effects of Bifidobacterium tetragenous viable bacteria tablets in treating cancer patients with functional constipation during chemotherapy. Methods: A consecutive cohort of 100 cancer patients with functional constipation were divided into two equal groups: patients in the experimental group were given Bifidobacterium tetragenous viable bacteria tablets combined with chemotherapy, while patients in the control group received chemotherapy alone. After 4 weeks, the efficacy and side effects in treating functional constipation were evaluated. Results: Constipation in 48 patients in experimental group was controlled (9 returned to normal), with a total response rate of 96%, and 1 patient reported diarrhea (2%). In contrast only 16 patients in the control group demonstrated improvement and 34 were still constipated after chemotherapy, with a response rate of 32%. The difference in response rate was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusion: This study suggested that Bifidobacterium tetragenous viable bacteria tablets are effective and safe in treating cancer patients with functional constipation during chemotherapy.

  • Obesity has been directly associated with the development of hypertension and cardiovascular disease. The purpose of this study was to investigate the blood pressure response during graded exercise test in obese adults. 189 subjects (age: $47.96{\pm}10.23$) were assigned to two groups: non-obese group (N=105, BMI: $22.05{\pm}1.57$, waist circumference: $76.90{\pm}6.17$) and obese group (N=84, BMI: $26.96{\pm}2.51$, waist circumference: $88.29{\pm}6.41$). The subjects underwent health screening and exercise treadmill test from January 2012 to December 2014. Graded exercise test was performed according to the Bruce protocol. Exercise duration (P=0.046) and METs (P=0.015) were significantly lower in obese group than non-obese group. There was no difference in the rate of change in blood pressure response between obese group and non-obese group during exercise, and the recovery rate of systolic blood pressure was delayed in the obese group compared to non-obese group in the first recovery period (P=0.020). The significant factors of increasing rate of change in maximum systolic blood pressure was waist (P=0.046) and hip circumference (P=0.008). In conclusion, these results demonstrate that, for hypertension prevention in obese adults, waist and hip circumference levels should be managed within normal range.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to investigate gender differences in the Korean Medical Community. Methods: Participants in the research study included 90 students regularly attending the fourth grade in Korean Medicine College, of which 48 were male and 42 were female. Results: 1. Patient's preferences for female KMD (Korean Medicine Doctor) had the lowest response rate in Korean Medical Society. Preferences for male KMD were due to factors including comfort level, rationality, good training, and patient's preference. 2. Patient's preferences for female KMD had the highest response rate in Gynecology, and Pediatrics. On the other hand, patient's preferences for female KMD had the lowest response rate in the other 7 specialty subjects. 3. The reasons for gender discrimination against male KMD were lack of subtlety, lack of empathy, authoritative attitude, and lack of patient management skills. The reasons for gender discrimination, against female KMD were childcare burden, social prejudices, lack of physical strength, and housekeeping burdens. Conclusions: The study results indicated that there was a lower preference for female KMD than male KMD among the Korean Medical Society and in patients' consciousness. Male-centered culture of Korean Medical Society had no role in this finding, but masculine image for KMD jobs and work-family double burden for female KMD were important contributing factors.

  • Background: This analysis was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of lenalidomide based regimen in treating patients with castration-resistant prostate cancer. Materials and Methods: Clinical studies evaluating the efficacy and safety of lenalidomide based regimens on response and safety for patients with castration-resistant prostate cancer were identified using a predefined search strategy. A pooled response rate (rate of PSA level decline of ${\geq}50%$) to treatment was calculated. Results: In lenalidomide based regimen, 3 clinical studies which including 98 patients with castration-resistant prostate cancer were considered eligible for inclusion. These lenalidomide based regimens included cisplatin, doxorubicin, or GM-CSF. Pooled analysis suggested that, in all patients, the pooled PSA level decline of ${\geq}50%$ was 13.3% (13/98) in lenalidomide based regimens. Fatigue, nausea and vomitting were the main side effects. No grade III or IV renal or liver toxicity were observed. No treatment related death occurred in patients with lenalidomide based regimens. Conclusions: This evidence based analysis suggests that lenalidomide based regimens are associated with mild response rate and acceptable toxicities for treating patients with castration-resistant prostate cancer.

  • Anti-ulcer activity of licorice alkaloid fraction, separated from Glycyrrhiza glabra L. by fractionation according to general alkaloid purification procedure, were studied with various experimental gastric ulcers. In Shay ulcer, licorice alkaloid fraction inhibit significantly response rate and severity of ulcer. But there was no significant changes in volume and pH of gastric contents. A male rat was fixed on a board and immersed up to breast in water of $25^{\circ}C$ for 20 hrs. Hemorrhage and erosion develop in all the animals on the mucosa of the glandular portion of stomach. Licorice alkaloid fraction (5 mg/kg, 10 mg/kg) inhibit significantly in the severity of stress ulcer but there was no changes in the response rate. Chlorpromazine produce marked inhibition in the severity and response rate of ulcer It was suggested that at least the anti-ulcer activity of licorice alkaloid fraction was not mediated by central depression.

  • The purpose of this experimental study is to gain equations for the prediction of surface roughness depending on the three major parameters(the cutting speed, the feed rate and the nose radius). It is the merit of Response Surface Methodology that the test time is reduced to minimum size and accurate analysis can be done. On this study, first, made specimen, Al 5052 BE material which is widely used in school and cut the specimen with coated tungsten carbide tools, by varying the cutting conditions, such as the cutting speed, the feed rate and the nose radius. In conclusion, the surface roughness was most greatly influenced by the feed rate. And Surface Roughness equation gained by experiment is as followed $$R=58.2\;v^{-0.22}f^{1.7}r^{-0.66}$$.

  • We propose a face recognition method that utilizes the LCP face descriptor. The proposed method applies a LoG mask to extract a face contour response, and employs the LCP algorithm to produce a binary pattern representation that ensures high recognition performance even under the changes in illumination, noise, and aging. The proposed LCP algorithm produces excellent noise reduction and efficiency in removing unnecessary information from the face by extracting a face contour response using the LoG mask, whose behavior is similar to the human eye. Majority of reported algorithms search for face contour response information. On the other hand, our proposed LCP algorithm produces results expressing major facial information by applying the threshold to the search area with only 8 bits. However, the LCP algorithm produces results that express major facial information with only 8-bits by applying a threshold value to the search area. Therefore, compared to previous approaches, the LCP algorithm maintains a consistent accuracy under varying circumstances, and produces a high face recognition rate with a relatively small feature vector. The test results indicate that the LCP algorithm produces a higher facial recognition rate than the rate of human visual's recognition capability, and outperforms the existing methods.

  • The symbol error rate equations of multi-level quadrature PRS(QPRS) system have been derived in the individual and composite environment of Gaussian/impulsive noise, cochannel CW interference, carrier offset, phase jitter and fading. And using the derived error rate equations, the probability of error has been evaluated and shown in graphs as functions of carrier to noise power ratio, carrier to interference power ratio, phase error, impulsive index, the ration of Gaussian noise to impulsive noise power component, signal to noise power ration in phase locked loop(PLL), and fading figures. The rseults show that the error rate performances are generally more more degraded by impulsive noise than by Gaussian noise. But on the contrary the erors occurred more frequently by Gaussian noise than impulsive noise in a fading environment.

  • This study was conducted to investigate photosynthetic response to four sequential air influx rate with rice(Oryza sativa L.)plants moved from a natural condition to constant condition with automatic regulation selected environmental variables on 13th~15th days after anthesis. In time course of photosynthetic response to increasing air influx rate(200-280-360-440 ml / min.), stomatal conductance decreased rapidly at the beginning after treatment and then oscillated with a free-running period of a approximately 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes until reached up to steady-state condition. Similar change was also observed $CO_2$ assimilation rate. Stomatal conductance decreased throughout the air influx rate sequence, but the rate of decrease was similar to the decrease in $CO_2$ assimilation rate observed under continuous air influx rate conditions. In starch granules during grain filling period under air influx rate(440 ml / min.) , compound starch granules were loosing and a number of hollows were observed in surface of single starch granules. Evidences from several approaches indicate that synchronization of stomatal conductance and$CO_2$ assimilation rate was closely inter-related tinder increase of air influx rate and increase of air influx rate influenced the$CO_2$ uptake in photosynthetic processes and compound starch granule, as 'end products' of photosynthesis.

  • The purpose of this paper is to research Korean boundary tone of sentence type and perceptive speaker's attitude according to speech rate - three type. In view of the preceding study, Korean intonation's meaning is determined by boundary tone. Also, in my experimental results, Korean boundary tone of sentence type has preferential tone. However, Korean boundary tone of sentence type is not influential according to speech rate. The speech rate's change of three pattern is influential in auditor's perceptual response. The relationship between the pitch contour of boundary tone and speech rate is not significant.
