With the purpose of determining the influence of sexual partners on the oestrous behaviour and to evaluate the accuracy of predicting the time from implant withdrawal to sexual receptivity following a treatment with Synchromate B (SMB), 15 adult Brahman cows were used in each of three phases. During phase I and n, random pairs of animals were induced to display oestrus one pair after the other at daily intervals, while in phase III, cows were induced alternately, every other day, one cow on the 1st day, two on the 3rd, one on the 5th, two on the 7th until all cows were treated. Sixty six percent of the cows in phases I and II, and 80% in phase III came into oestrous after treatment. The interval between implant withdrawal and, expected and observed oestrous was statistically different in all phases. Clustering of oestrous was evident. Cows displayed sexual receptivity within a. range of -24 to +96; -24 to +72 and -216 to +192 hours after implant withdrawal for the three phases, respectively, with a tendency for cows treated first (within treatments), to delay their oestrus signs and vice versa. In phase III, four cows showed oestrous behaviour with the implant in place. These in spite of not observing pre-ovulatory follicles. Correlation values of 0.99, 0.93 and 0.90 (P<0.05) were found respectively among treatments, between the number of cows coming into oestrus and the number of mounts observed. These findings suggest that there are social and behavioural factors in a herd that may override exogenous synchronisation treatments.
Purpose: This study investigated the effects of sex hormones across menstrual cycle phases on knee muscle activity during one-leg landing in non-athletic females. Methods: Twenty-six healthy females who reported normal menstrual cycles for the previous three months were tested when estrogen levels were highest (ovulation) and lowest (menstruation). Knee muscle activity was analyzed based on electromyography (EMG) data recorded during landing on a 30-cm box. Before data collection, each subject was trained in single-leg landing tasks ten times. Landing was analyzed by measuring the average of three landing tasks. EMG data were collected between the moment of ground contact and the point of knee maximum flexion. The maximum voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) for normalization that was recorded as the EMG root-mean-square (RMS) during landing was tested, with paired t-tests used to assess differences in knee muscle activity according to menstrual cycle phases. Results: The results showed that the soleus, semitendinosus, and lateral gastrocnemius muscle activity during landing was differed significantly during ovulation compared to that during menstruation (p<0.05). No significant differences in vastus medialis activity were found between menstrual and ovulatory phases during landing (p>0.05). Conclusion: Changes in the menstrual cycle in response to sex hormones changed the activity of muscles around the knee during landing. Females utilize different muscle activity control strategies during different phases of the menstrual cycle, which may contribute to increased ACL injury risk.
Patterns of amylase secretion in mouse pancreatic fragments were studied over a period of time after the tissue was stimulated by acetyicholine and MNNG. MNNG is known to activate guanylate cyclase and thus increase the cGMP concentration in the pancreatic acinar cell. These amylase secretion patterns were studied to investigate the role of cGMP in reaction cascade during secretion response of the tissues stimulated by acetyicholine. Cellular response of amylase secretion in the pancreas by acetyicholine was divided into two phases. During the first phase, zymogen granules which had existed in the cells were secreted by the action of $Ca^2$+ and calmodulin immediately after secretagogue administration, this being known as the initial response. When the tissue was stimulated by acetylcholine in a $Ca^2$+-deficient medium or one containing trifluoperazine as a calmodulin antagonist, this initial response was reduced. In the second phase, newly formed zymogen granules were secreted as sustained response after protein synthesis was triggered by secretagogue. This response was provoked by an activation of protein kinase C. When either cycloheximide as a protein synthesis inhibitor or dibucaine as a protein kinase C inhibitor were added to the incubation medium, this sustained response was remarkablely depressed in the pancreatic fragments stimulated with acetylcholine. In the pancreatic acinar cell, phosphatidylinositol turnover plays an important role in the secretion response and hexachlorocyclohexane inhibits this phosphatidylinositol turnover. The pancreatic tissue treated with the hexachlorocyclohexane exhibited inhibition on both initial and sustained responses of amylase secretion by acetylcholine. MNNG also accelerated amylase secretion from the tissue gradually along incubation time. The 22 minutes fraction of the pancratic secretion after administration of both acetylcholine and MNNG showed higher amylase activity than the neighboring fractions. Guanylate cyclase potentiated the sustained response. Even if it is experimented with an indirect method, guanylate cyclase was found responsible for activation of the sustained response of a step prior to the action of protein kinase C. As conclusion, it was considered that amylase secretion in mouse pancreatic fragments stimulated by acetylcholine is a three phasic response.

Objectives: This study is aimed at measuring psychophysiological responses using a biofeedback system in healthy people to obtain basic normative data for biofeedback research and treatment. Methods: Ninety-six healthy volunteers (55 males and 41 females : average age $30.4{\pm}8.0$) without any history of major medical or psychiatric illnesses participated in this study. Psychophysiological responses were assessed using the ProComp+ and BioGraph program (ver. 2.1) with regard to forearm and frontal electromyography (EMG), electrodermal response (EDR), and skin temperature. They were measured in 3 phases (baseline, stress, and recovery phases), respectively. Beck depression inventory and Spielberger state and trait anxiety inventory were used to measure mood states. We compared psychophysiological responses according to age and gender differences, respectively and examined the relationship between mood states and psychophysiological measures. Results: People in their twenties showed higher EDR levels in the 3 phases than those of other age groups. Female subjects showed higher frontal EMG levels in the 3 phases compared with male subjects. There was no significant correlation between biofeedback measures and mood states in these subjects. Conclusion: We present normative data of psychophysiological responses measured by a biofeedback system in healthy people. These results suggest that gender and age should be considered as important variables in assessing psychophysiological responses using a biofeedback system.
Objectives: This study evaluated the response in Daegu, Korea to the first wave of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic according to a public health emergency response model. Methods: After an examination of the official data reported by the city of Daegu and the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as a literature review and advisory meetings, we chose a response model. Daegu's responses were organized into 4 phases and evaluated by applying the response model. Results: In phase 1, efforts were made to block further transmission of the virus through preemptive testing of a religious group. In phase 2, efforts were concentrated on responding to mass infections in high-risk facilities. Phase 3 involved a transition from a high-intensity social distancing campaign to a citizen participation-based quarantine system. The evaluation using the response model revealed insufficient systematic preparation for a medical surge. In addition, an incorporated health-related management system and protection measures for responders were absent. Nevertheless, the city encouraged the participation of private hospitals and developed a severity classification system. Citizens also played active roles in the pandemic response by practicing social distancing. Conclusions: This study employed the response model to evaluate the early response in Daegu to the COVID-19 pandemic and revealed areas in need of improvement or maintenance. Based on the study results, creation of a systematic model is necessary to prepare for and respond to future public health emergencies like the COVID-19 pandemic.
Purpose: This study is aimed to confirm the effects of Yakson therapy on the growth and physical response of preform infants, and maternal attachment to them compared with GHT therapy. Method: The design of this study is nonequivalent control group with repeated measuring by quasi experimental study. The subjects are preterm infants in 26 - 34 gestational age hospitalized in the NICU of 4 university hospitals with an experimental group of 15 and a control group of 14. Yakson therapy consists of three phases: laying a hand, caressing by hand, and laying a hand again taking 5 minutes for each phase. Result: As a result of administering Yakson therapy to preform infants; the average weight gain of the Yakson group was higher than that of the GHT group, but there is no significant difference between groups. The oxygen saturation and maternal attachment difference between the Yakson and the GHT group were not significant. Significant differences in the average daily increase of oral intake and apical pulse rate were observed between the Yakson group and GHT group. Conclusion: These data suggested that Yakson therapy may be an effective nursing intervention which can facilitate growth and physical response of preform infants.
A very simple control approach using neural network for the robust position control of a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(PMSM) is presented The linear quadratic controller plus feedforward neural network is employed to obtain the robust PMSM system approximately linearized using field-orientation method for an AC servo. The neural network is trained in on-line phases and this neural network is composed by a fedforward recall and error back-propagation training. Since the total number of nodes are only eight this system can be easily realized by the general microprocessor. During the normal operation the input-output response is sampled and the weighting value is trained multi-times by error back-propagation method at each sample period to accommodate the possible variations in the parameters or load torque. And the state space analysis is performed to obtain the state feedback gains systematically. IN addition the robustness is also obtained without affecting overall system response. This method is realized by a floating-point Digital Singal Processor DS1102 Board (TMS320C31) The basic DSP software is used to write C program which is compiled by using ANSI-C style function prototypes.
Development of phases, evolution of microstructures, and dielectric response characteristics of amorphous lead iron tungstates during crystabllization were investiageted. A series of mircographs showing the evolution sequence of microstructures is presented. Crystallization was observed to initiate from inside of the amorphous material. A cubic perovskite phase developed fully at $760^{\circ}C$ from amorphous state via intermediate metastable crystalline structures. Dielectric constant of amorphous PFM was totally insensitive to the temperature change around the Curie temperature of crystalline material. Sintered pellet, with relative density of 96% and an almost pore-free dense internal microstructure, could be prepared from amorphous powder.
A simple method is proposed for determining the frequency response function G(j.omega.) of a system using a pair of characteristic M-sequences (maximum length linear feed back shift register sequence). When a characteristic M-sequence is sampled with q$_{1}$ and q$_{2}$ both of which are coprime with N, where N is the period of the M-sequence, the obtained pair of sequences have conjugate complex frequency spectrum. Making use of this fact, two charcteristic M-sequences having conjugate complex frequency spectrum are applied to a system to be measured. Since the magnitude of spectrium of M-sequence is known, the gain of G(j.omega.) is directly obtained from the Fourier transform of the system output. The phase of G(j.omega.) is obtained simply by taking the average of the two phases of output spectrum.
In order for studying pressure-coupled dynamic responses of droplet vaporization, open-loop experiment of an isolated droplet vaporization exposed to pressure perturbations in stagnant gaseous environment is numerically conducted. Governing equations are solved for flow parameters at gas and liquid phases separately and thermodynamic parameters at the interfacial boundary are matched for problem closure. For high-pressure effects, vapor-liquid interfacial thermodynamics is rigorously treated. A series of parametric calculations in terms of mean pressure level and wave frequencies are carried out employing a n-pentane droplet in stagnant gaseous nitrogen. Results show that wave instability in view of pressure-coupled vaporization response seems more susceptible at higher pressures and higher wave frequencies. Mass evaporation rate responding to pressure waves is amplified with increase in pressure due to substantial reduction in latent heat of vaporization. Augmentation of perturbation frequency also enhances amplification due to the reduction of phase differences between pressure perturbation and surface temperature fluctuation.
