Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM) and Mineral Resources Authority of Mongolia (MRAM) performed a joint survey on Ugii Nuur Fe-Mn mineralized area. Following the survey, we carried out magnetic survey and 3D magnetic susceptibility inversion. Based on the inversion results, basic feasibility study and 3D imaging of Fe-Mn mineralized area were performed using 3D geological modeling technique. Using the distribution of total magnetic field data, we were confirmed for the possibility of horizontal extension of ore bodies from surface outcrops. The 3D magnetic susceptibility model, which is highly related with Fe content, analyzed by inversion shows that the ore bodies of Deposit 1 and Deposit 2 are extended to the underground and ore bodies that are not exposed on the surface are largely distributed in the underground. If we perform the integration analysis using this magnetic susceptibility model and the ore grade data analyzed by drilling survey, it is possible to carry out the effective potential evaluation of Ugii Nuur Fe-Mn ore deposit.

Three wildfires severely damaged local towns and forests in Gangwon-do, South Korea in 2019 April 4-5. Local hydrological regime could be greatly altered by the wildfires, therefore it is important to assess its damage (e.g. area and severity) and also resultant changes in hydrological fluxes. We retrieved the Normalized-Burned Ratio (NBR) index using remote-sensing data (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) 500-m 8-day surface reflectance data), and delineated the damaged-area based on the difference in the NBR (dNBR) before and after the wildfires. We then estimated changes in the annual evapotranspiration (AET) in 2019 using the MODIS evapotranspiration data (500-m 8-day). It was found that the damaged-area of the three wildfires was 29.50 km^2 in total, which take up 1.00-6.19% area of five catchments. It was estimated that the AET would be decreased as 0.05-1.56% over those five catchments, as compared to the pre-fire AET (2004-2018). The impact of the wildfires on the catchment AET was less severe than expected (i.e. up to 1.56%) mostly because two big wildfires were distributed across two catchments respectively (i.e. four catchments for the two wildfires) and the other wildfire was small and not severe. This study highlights the importance of assessing the area and severity of a wildfire when estimating its impact on the local hydrological cycle.
This study was carried out obtain basic information for growth characteristics by different age of Dendropanax morbifera in southern part of Korea, such as at Sunchon, Haenam, Gangjin, Wando. The pH of soil in cultivation area was 5.2 to 5.6 and organic matter was very high up to 10.6%. P$_{2}$O$_{5}$, content of soil in cultivation area was 35.3 to 42.1 mg/1, C.E.S was 13.9 to 14.4 me/100g, and moisture rate was 19.2 to 21.1 %. The flowering of Dendropanax morbifera began from 6~7 years old tree. The flowering date was at 10th of July at Wando. The growth characteristics of 12 years old tree was 929.5cm in stem height, 134.1mm in stem diameter, and 15 years old tree was 1,117.9cm in stem height, 160.8mm in stem diameter. The number of leaf was 13.9 at five years old tree, and the petioles length was 12.6 at five years old tree. Xylem sap can be had at more than 10 years old tree with good growth more than 10 cm stem diameter.r.
Lately, it is an important concern in water resources research to maintain a stable water supply according to a future climate change and an increase in water use. In Han-River basin, approximately 10 % of water resources that is provided the capital region (Gyeonggi, Seoul etc.) has been reduced as a consequence of the construction of Imnam Dam (storage volume: 27 billion $m^3$) located in the upper Hwacheon Dam upstream area. Therefore, streamflows have decreased in Bukhangang basin, but it could not be evaluated quantitatively. In this study, SWAT-K which is the physically based long-term runoff simulation model, was used in order to evaluate the effect of Imnam Dam on the reduced inflow to Hwacheon Dam according to the change of hydrological condition in the upstream area of Hwacheon Dam. For the model input data of North Korea area, meteorological data of GTS (Global Telecommunication System) were used, and soil maps by FAO/UNESCO (2003) were applied. Temporal variations of water resources is investigated with comparison of observed and simulated inflows at Hawcheon Dam site. Also, annual, monthly, seasonal decreases in water resources were evaluated using the flow duration analysis of simulated streamflows with or without Imnam dam.
The tropical forests in developing countries are faced with the problem of illegal exploitation of trees. However, dearth of empirical means of expressing the dimensions, structure, quality and quantity of a removed tree has imped conviction of offenders. This study aimed at developing a model that can effectively estimate individual tree basal area (BA) from stump diameter (Ds) for Tectona grandis stands in Omo Forest Reserve, Nigeria, for timber valuation in case of illegal felling. Thirty-six $25m{\times}25m$ temporary sample plots (TSPs) were laid randomly in six age strata; 26, 23, 22, 16, 14, and 12 years specifically. BA, Ds and diameter at breast height were measured in all living T. grandis trees within the 36 TSPs. Least square method was used to convert the counted stumps into harvested stem cross-sectional areas. Six basal area models were fitted and evaluated. The BA-Ds relationship was best described by power model which gave least values of Root mean square error (0.0048), prediction error sum of squares (0.0325) and Akaike information criterion (-15391) with a high adjusted coefficient of determination (0.921). This study revealed that basal area estimation was realistic even when the only information available was stump diameter. The power model was validated using independent data obtained from additional plots and was found to be appropriate for estimating the basal area of Tectona grandis stands in Omo Forest Reserve, Nigeria.

Generally, in terms of the development of irrigation scheme, the efficient water resource management that supplies the irrigation water in consideration of the required time and accurate quantity to grow the crop should be conducted. The water resource assessment should precede to supply the irrigation water efficiently. The water resources assessment is divided into the water requirement analysis and the water availability assessment. In case of Korea, the major crop is paddy rice unlike crops of Africa, such as sugarcane, maize, and cassava, etc. Because it is not familiar with the method for upland irrigation development in tropical area, it needs to know the water resources assessment for irrigation scheme development about these crops. The Natama Scheme in Chiradzulu District of the Southern Malawi was selected as study area, which has tropical climate. From the collected meteorological data, the evapotranspiration was analyzed by Penman-Monteith Method and the effective rainfall was analyzed by USDA Soil Conservation Service Method. This study displays the results that for study area, the evapotranspiration varies from 2.80 mm/day to 5.51 mm/day and the effective rainfall varied from 2.1mm to 149.0mm. According to the selected crop (Green Maize, Dry Maize), the unit water requirement (UWR) and water demand (WD) considering the irrigation efficiency, irrigation time and irrigation area were estimated to be $0.00122m^3/s/ha$ and $0.0122m^3/s$ respectively. For the water availability assessment, the runoff of Natama scheme was calculated by specific yield method. The water availability was evaluated through reviewed differences of discharge between $Q80_{intake}$ and Total WD, and the irrigation water can be supplied sufficiently in the existing 10ha of Natama scheme. As a result of reviewing the extensibility of irrigable area, total WD of scheme is $0.02313m^3/s$, and $Q80_{intake}$ is $0.02387m^3/s$ ($Q80_{intake}$ > Total WD). Therefore, Natama scheme can be extended from 10 ha to 17 ha in the dry season in consideration of the $Q80_{intake}$.
In this study, the effects of stand planting density on parameters of stand height and basal area growth models were investigated. We used the Korf equation as the base model in estimating the parameters of the growth models for cryptomeria plantation forest stands. Then, in order to investigate the effects of the change in plantation density on the parameter estimates, the "extra sums of square" principle, which provided a reasonable statistical procedure for a performance test, was used. The results of the test coincide with the understandings that stand height growth is not affected significantly by the planting density and the growth curves of stand basal area approaches a common asymptote regardless of the stand density for a given site. However, the shapes of the basal area growth curves were affected significantly by the planting density. Based on the results of the test, we developed a basal area growth model to account for the effects of initial planting density in cryptomeria plantation forest stands.

This study was investigated in order to find composition and density of fisheries resource using bottom trawl in April, July, August, and November 2022 in the East China Sea. The average density of fisheries resource was estimated using the swept area method. As a result, 35 species were collected from the East China Sea. These included 21 fishes, six crustaceans, six cephalopods and two echinoderms. Seasonally, the average density of crustacean individuals per unit area were highest in November (692.1 inds./km2), while cephalopod individuals per unit area were highest in August (39.4 inds./km2). The average density of fish individuals per unit area were highest in August at 355.0 (inds./km2).

Flooding is an inevitable problem for many cities. The study has depended on a combined approach of physically based modeling and GIS. The stream network is structured by MIKE11 for basis of a network and extended by MIKE21 to make like 2D analysis. This method is called alternative 2D analysis. In this study, one of area in Korea is used to analyze overflow of stream. Flood risk of the area looks like not so big because an elevation of this area is very high and slope is steep, but it is very dangerous area due to the typhoons. The tools to make flood risk map are MIKE11 and MIKE21 include GIS program. And map is expressed 3-D animation with MIKE Animator. As a result of this work, the flood risk map is made. And everyone who is not an expert can check dangerous area for flooding. At present, the method which is viable and easily confirmable must be promote because one of matters of common interest, which is of the general public, is the flood disaster.

This examination of vegetation is conducted from lune to Oct. 1999 through on the spot survey, centering on the habitat of Abies koreana around Imgeolryeong, langteomok, and Jeseokbong in Mt Jiri and Yeongsil path and Seongpanak path in Mt. Halla. Species composition tables of the Abies koreana community by altitude and slope in Mt. Jiri and Mt. Halla are made based on the community composition tables examined in quadrat. The Abies koreana-Saso quelpaertensis community in a west slope of Mt. Halla is found that Abies koreana of 4-6m in height forms subtree layer and that of 8-9m in height the tree layer and it reflects a difference between community structure by slope and main composition species. While the tree layer of Abies koreana community is 12-14 in height around the area of 1, 290-1, 560m above the sea of Imgeolryong and path from Baekmudong to Jangteomok, it is 8-12m in height in the area of 1, 680-1, 780m above the sea of path from Jangteomok to Jeseokbong. It means that community structure depends on area and attitude. This study finds out that commonly appearing composition species similar to coverage and presence are Lepisorus thunberianus, Quercus mongolica, Soidago virga-aurea var. asiatica, Ligularia fischeri, Carex lanceolata, Clintonia udensis, Magnolia sieboldii, Betula ermani, Acer Pseudo-sieboldianum, As soil environment of surveyed area, pH of surveyed spots is similar in Mt. Jiri and Mt. Halla, electrical conductvity is higher in Mt Jiri, and contents of organic matter is relatively higher in a west slope of Mt. Jiri and Mt. Halla and lower in their south and west slopes. Contents of organic matter and total nitrogen show that the area of 1, 550m above the sea in a west slope of Mt. Halla is some higher. For pH and contents of total nitrogen and organic matter, Mt. Halla is higher than Mt. Jiri but for electrical conductivity , Mt. Jiri is relatively higher than Mt. Halla.
