This study considers the magnitude of the harmonic components radiated from the ultrasonic contrast agents (UCA) activated by a typical diagnostic ultrasound. The nonlinear dynamic response of UCA to a 2 MHz diagnostic ultrasound pulse was predicted using Gilmore Model. The elastic property of the shell membrane of the UCA was ignored in the numerical model. Simulation was carried out for the UCA varying from 1 - 9 $\mu$m in its initial radius and the driving diagnostic ultrasound whose mechanical index (MI) ranges from 0.125 to 8. The powers of the sub. ultra and second harmonics of the acoustic signal from the UCA activated were compared with that of the fundamental component. The results show that. if the UCA is bigger than its resonant size (2 $\mu$m in radius for the present case) the sub harmonic power was much bigger than the fundamental. In particular, the 2nd harmonic component currently used as an imaging parameter for the harmonic imaging, was predicted to be lower in power than both the sub and the ultra harmonic component. This study indicates that, for obtaining harmonic imaging with UCA, the sub or ultra harmonics could be taken as imaging parameters better than the 2nd harmonic component.
The paper looked into the effects of the spectral properties (waveform) of the high intensity focused ultrasound on suppression of the ultrasonic cavitation. Three different types of ultrasound were considered in the study, which were sinusoidal (1 MHz, 5 MPa), frequency modulated (from 1 MHz to 6 MHz for 10 ㎲, 5 MPa), asymmetrically shocked (fundamental frequency 1 MHz, peak positive pressure 12 MPa, peak negative pressure -4 MPa). The temporal response of an air bubble in water initially 1 ㎛ in radius to each type of the ultrasound was predicted using Gilmore bubble dynamic model and Church's rectified gas diffusion equation. It was shown that the radially pulsating amplitude of the bubble was greatly reduced for the frequency modulated wave and was little decreased for the shock wave, compared to the case that the bubble was exposed to the sinusoidal wave. It is interesting that the bubble response to the frequency modulated wave remains similar when the frequency component of the modulated ultrasound is beyond the bubble resonant frequency 3 MHz. This implies that, although the ultrasound is modulated up to 3MHz rather than up to the present 6 MHz, it is likely to produce similar cavitation suppression effects. In practice, it means that a typical narrow band ultrasonic transducer can be taken to generate an appropriate frequency modulated ultrasound to reduce cavitation activity. The present study indicates that ultrasonic cavitation may be suppressed to some extent by a proper spectral modification of high intensity ultrasound.

In recent years, there has been an increasing demand to apply the new IACS(International Association of Classification Societies) standards for ice and polar-classed ships. For ice-class vessel propulsion system, the ice impact torque design criterion is defined as a periodic harmonic function in relation to the number of the propeller blades. However, irregular or transient ice impact torque is assumed to occur likely in actual circumstances rather than these periodic loadings. In this paper, the reliability and torsional vibration characteristics of a comparatively large six-cylinder marine diesel engine for propulsion shafting system was examined and reviewed in accordance with current regulations. In this particular, the transient ice impact torque and excessive vibratory torque originating from diesel engine were interpreted and the resonant points identified through theoretical analysis. Several floating ice impacts were carried out to evaluate torque responses using the calculation method of classification rule requirement. The Newmark method was used for the transient response analysis of the whole system.
ACROSS device, which is composed of an implantable microphone, a signal processor, and a vibrating transducer, is a fullyimplantable middle ear hearing device(F-IMEHD) for the recovery of patients with hearing loss. And since a microphone is implanted under skin and tissue at the temporal bones, the amplitude of the sound wave is attenuated by absorption and scattering. And the vibrating transducer attached to the ossicular chain caused also the different displacement from characteristic of the stapes. For the gain control of auditory signals, most of implantable hearing devices with the digital audio signal processor still apply to fitting rules of conventional hearing aid without regard to the effect of the implanted microphone and the vibrating transducer. So it should be taken into account the effect of the implantable microphone and the vibrating transducer to use the conventional audio fitting rule. The aim of this study was to measure gain characteristics caused by the implanted microphone and the vibrating transducer attached to the ossicle chains for the gain compensation of ACROSS device. Differential floating mass transducers (DFMT) of ACROSS device were clipped on four cadaver temporal bones. And after placing the DFMT on them, displacements of the ossicle chain with the DFMT operated by 1 $mA_{peak}$ current was measured using laser Doppler vibrometer. And the sensitivity of microphones under the sampled pig skin and the skin of 3 rat back were measured by stimulus of pure tones in frequency from 0.1 to 8.9 kHz. And we confirmed that the microphone implanted under skin showed poorer frequency response in the acoustic high-frequency band than it in the low- to mid- frequency band, and the resonant frequency of the stapes vibration was changed by attaching the DFMT on the incus, the displacement of the DFMT driven with 1 $mA_{rms}$ was higher by the amount of about 20 dB than that of cadaver's stapes driven by the sound presssure of 94 dB SPL in resonance frequency range.

It is important to configure capacitance(C) of the capacitor and the induction coefficient(L) of the work coil on the resonant circuit design stage in order to induce heating on the object by a precise and constant frequency components in the electromagnetic induction heating equipment. Work coil conducts a direct induction heating according to heating point and area of the object which has a fixed heat factor so that work coil is designed to has fixed value. On the other hands, Capacitor should be designed to be changed in order to be the higher the utilization of the entire equipment. It is extracted the samples by variation of single electrode capacity from the selection stage of raw materials for capacity to the stage of process design for output of the high frequency LC resonance of 700kHz on 1000 VAC maximum voltage and current to $200I_{MAX}$. It is suggested fundamental experiment results in order to prove relation for the optimal design of HF-LC resonance conduction-cooled capacitor based on the response of frequency characteristics and results of output parameters according to variation of the capacitance size.
The precise measurement of human emotion is of pivotal importance in the field of emotion science. Based on the perspective of psychoneuroimmunoendocrinology, human emotion is now considered to be measurable by body fluid. The biological molecule cortisol, which is known for the stress hormone, has been widely investigated to help researchers to estimate the stress loaded on human body. Until now, several measurement techniques such as High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), fluorometric assay, and reverse phase chromatography have been developed. However, since these measurements are expensive, take relatively long time for an operation, and they are not portable, they are not appropriate for POCT (point of care testing). In this paper we demonstrate the performance of a miniaturized-microwave resonant device in the measurement of cortisol. Our method has many advantages in that it requires a small volume of sample, has fast response time, is easy to operate and needs no labeling process. Besides, it will shed a light on the measurement techniques for emotion science.
The aim of this study is to develop a label-free immunosensor for microbial detection and to evaluate its applicability to Pseudomonas aeruginosa detection in various food samples. The antibodies used were a polyclonal antiserum from rabbit (polyvalent type) and a monoclonal antibody raised against the flagella of P. aeruginosa. Antibody immobilization was done by a thiolated antibody chemisorption onto one gold electrode of a piezoelectric quartz crystal with a thiol-cleavable, heterobifunctional cross-linker, sulfosuccinimidyl 6-[3-(2-pyridyldithio)propionamido]hexanoate. To the Stomacher-treated samples from various raw and processed foods under cold storage, comprising sirloin, cod and pettitoes, spiking and enrichment culture were done to prepare the model samples, followed by the measurements of the frequency shifts after sample injections. The frequency shifts obtained by the sample matrices themselves were in the range of 52~89 Hz. The injections of the spiked samples caused the frequency shifts of 108~200 Hz, whereas the enriched samples decreased the steady-state resonant frequencies by 162~222 Hz. All sample measurements including baseline stabilization, sample injection and acquisition of the steady-state response were accomplished within 30 min.

During a model test of Hutton TLP, a "ringing" response was first observed about 20 years ago. This phenomenon is a resonant build up over the time of wave period and this burst-like motion can cause the extreme load on the TLP tether. It is often detected in the large and steep irregular waves but the generation mechanism leading to the "ringing" is not yet well understood. According to the research since then, the higher order harmonic components may account for the "ringing" on the floating offshore structures. The main purpose of the present research is, thus, to measure the higher harmonic forces exerted on a vertical truncated circular column and to compare them with available data. A vertical truncated cylinder with a diameter of 3.5inch and a draft of 10.5inch is used as a test structure, which is a scaled model of ISSC TLP column. The cylinder is installed at a distance of 45ft from the wave maker in order to avoid parasitic waves created in the wave flap. Attached to the upper part of the cylinder are two force gages to measure the horizontal (surge) and vertical (heave) forces on the cylinder. The incoming waves are Stokes waves with a slope ranging from 0.06 to 0.24. The forces and waves are measured for 60 seconds with a sampling rate of 50 Hz. Among the recorded data, the first 10 waves are excluded because of transient behavior of the waves and the next The horizontal and vertical forces are analyzed up to 5th order harmonics. The horizontal forces are then compared to the values from the theoretical model called "FNV model". In addition, force transfer functions are also investigated. Major findings in this research are below. 1) The first order forces measured are slightly larger than the theoretical values of "FNV model" 2) The "FNV model" considerably overpredicts the second order forces. 3) The larger the amplitude and more extreme the wave slope, the smaller the predictions are compared to the experimental. 4) The higher harmonic forces are significantly smaller than the first harmonic force for all wave parameters. 5) The normalized forces vs. waves slopes are almost constant in the lower harmonics but vary a lot in the higher harmonics. 6) The trend of forces is more nonlinear in the horizontal forces than in the vertical forces as the wave slope increases. 7) The part of the results above is also observed by other researchers and confirmed again through the present work.

A doubly resonant ultrasonic transducer has been designed as an attempt to increase the bandwidth of underwater transducers. The dual resonance conditions were accomplished by attaching a single acoustic matching layer on the front face of a Tonpilz transducer consisted of an aluminum head, a piezoelectric ring, a brass tail and a prestress bolt. A modified Mason's model was used for the performance analysis and the design of transducers, and the constructed transducers were tested experimentally and numerically by changing the impedances and thicknesses of the head, tail and matching layers in the water tank. Two distinct resonance peaks in the transmitting voltage response(TVR) of a developed transducer were observed at 34.3 and 40.4 kHz, respectively, with the difference frequency of 6.1kHz and the center frequency of 37.2kHz. The values of TVR at these frequencies were 136.5 dB re $1\;\muPa/V$ at 34.3 kHz and 136.8 dB re $1\;\muPa/V$ at 40.4 kHz, respectively. Reasonable agreement between the experimental results and the numerical results was achieved. From this result, it is expected that the generation of the distinct resonances at any two desired frequencies can be achieved through the proper choice of the matching layer to provide the impedance transformation between the transducer and the medium.
