  • Purpose : Cervical spondylotic myelopathy is a varied clinical syndromes and the most serious condition of cervical spondylosis. Spinal cord dysfunction is often caused by the compression on spinal cord. The purpose of this report was to describe physical examination and the process of disorders on cervical spondylotic myelopathy(CSM). Methods : Three cases with cervical myelopathy were presented with magnetic resonance image(MRI), Nurick's grade and Japanese Orthopaedic Association(JOA) score. Results : This studies showed a variable clinical course with gradual neurological deterioration in two cases. but one case was improved by operation and a regular aerobic exercise. MRI, Nurick's grade, JOA score are a useful adjunct for CSM evaluation. Conclusion : The state of CSM is variable, which may affect conservative treatments and surgery. It is needed to be a carefull approach and studies for a conservative treatment and management on CSM.

  • In this paper, effects of thermoelastic stress by using lock-in thermography was measured in the cantilever beam. In experiment, a circular holed plate was applied to analyze variation of transient stress under the condition of repeated cyclic loading. And the finite element modal analysis as computational work was performed. According to the surface temperature obtained from infrared thermography, the stress of the nearby hole was predicted based on thermoelastic equation. As results, each stress distributions between 2nd and 3rd vibration mode were qualitatively and quantitatively investigated, respectively. Also, dynamic stress concentration factors according to the change of vibration amplitude were estimated for the resonance frequency.

  • This paper deals with the analytical model of an elastic porous material in sound transmission loss of a double panel with fiber glasses. From the parametric analysis, it is concluded that the boundary condition, which is concerned to the contact between the skin panel and core materials, does not have much influence on sound transmission loss of a double panel with fiber glasses, and material properties of the porous material become, however, important factors to mass-spring-mass resonance. The comparisons of the prediction with the measurement of sound transmission loss of walls show good agreement between the two values.

  • Ligamentum flavum hematoma (LFH) is a very rare condition of dural compression; most are observed in the mobile cervical and lumbar spine regions. A 67-year-old man who had a long level interbody fusion at L3-S1 four years ago presented with symptoms suggestive of dural compression. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a posterior semicircular mass located at the adjacent L2-L3 level. After decompression of the spinal canal and removal of the mass lesion, pathological examination of the surgical specimen revealed a hematoma within the ligamentum. The patient fully recovered to normal status after surgery. Here, we report our experience with a LFH in the adjacent segment after a long level fusion procedure and discuss the possible associated mechanisms.

  • The piriformis syndrome is a condition allegedly attributable to compression of the sciatic nerve by the piriformis muscle. Recently, magnetic resonance neurography and electrophysiologic study have helped to diagnose piriformis syndrome. High dose radiotherapy could induce acute and delayed muscle damage. We had experienced piriformis syndrome with fatty atrophy of piriformis muscle after radiotherapy for recurrent cervical cancer.

  • In most cases, subdural hematoma (SDH) is regarded as a complication of head injury and nontraumatic causes are rare. Moreover, spontaneous chronic SDH in child or adolescent is very unusual. Here, we present the case of a healthy 14-year-old girl who was diagnosed as a spontaneous chronic SDH. The patient presented with severe headache following blurring of vision two weeks ago without any history of trivial head injury. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging depicted a chronic SDH. The cause of the hematoma was not established. After performing burr hole drainage of the hematoma, the patient made an uneventful recovery. We explore the potential risk factors and pathophysiology implicated in this condition. Possible pathogenic mechanisms of this unique case are discussed and a review of the pertinent literature is included.

  • The global stability of the attitude motion of a spin-stabilized space vehicle is investigated by performing numerical experiment. In the previous study, a stationary solution and a particular resonant condition for a given model were found by using analytical method but failed to represent the system stability over parameter values near and off the stationary points. Accordingly, as an extension of the previous work, this study performs numerical experiment to investigate the stability of the system across the parameter space and determines stable and unstable regions of the design parameters of the system.

  • Ceramic layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanohybrids have attracted considerable interest in biomedical science due to their unique structural feature and characteristics in biological condition. Many studies on LDH nanoparticles have been reported in diagnosis applications including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agents in order to not only provide better imaging performance through multimodal imaging strategy, but realize therapeutic function which treat cancers in one platform. This review highlights the recent progress in MRI T1 contrast agent, dual modal imaging system, and MRI-guided drug delivery systems ranging from synthetic method and characterization to evaluation in vitro and in vivo based on the ceramic LDH nanohybrids. Future research directions are also suggested for next-generation bio-imaging contrast agent.

  • We have explained Process and electrical characteristics of a step-down Rosen type piezoelectric transformer for AC-adapter. When the electric voltage is applied to the driving piezoelectric vibrator notarized in the thickness direction, then output voltage is generated at the generating piezoelectric vibrator polarized in the thickness direction due to the piezoelectric effects. Output voltage and current from a single-layered piezoelectric transformer were measured under the various condition of loads and frequencies It was shown from experiments that output voltage has increased and resonance frequency has changed according to various resistor loads. Output current has decreased inversely proportional to the loads

  • An accurate estimation of water level variation when thewaves propagate to the coastal regionis very important for the port and harbor development plan. This study describes the application of a hybrid element model to harbor oscillation problem due to the construction of shore structure and implementation of shore boundary. The site selected is Pusan Harbor area with the third development and the Artificial Island plan. The observed water level changes at the site are compared with the result of the numerical experiment. The model gives a very important prediction of water level changes for navigation and harbor design.
