  • Titanium and its alloys are technically superior and cost-effective materials, with a wide variety of aerospace, industrial, marine, and commercial applications. In this study, the effects of titanium ions on bacterial growth were evaluated. Six strains of bacteria known to be resistant to both metal ions and antibiotics were used in this study. Two strains, Escherichia coli ATCC 15489, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 10145, proved to be resistant to titanium ions. Plasmid-cured p. aeruginosa resulted in the loss of one or move resistance markers, indicating plasmid-encoded resistance. The plasmid profile of p. aeruginosa revealed the presence of a 23-kb plasmid. The plasmid was isolated and transformed into $DH5{\alpha}$. Interestingly, the untransformed $DH5{\alpha}$ did not grow in 300 mg/l titanium ions, but the transformed $DH5{\alpha}$ grew quite well under such conditions. The survival rate of the transformed $DH5{\alpha}$ also increased more than 3-fold compared to that of untransformed $DH5{\alpha}$.

  • In concrete incorporating high volume ground granulated blast-furnace slag that has frozen at early age, to evaluated the results of resistance to freezing and thawing is very difficult because the hydration of the concrete increases over the duration of rapid freezing and thawing test. Hence, the dynamic modulus of elasticity of specimens after freezing and thawing will be favorable results unless the hydration effect is taken into consideration. In this study, a method of evaluating to the resistance to freezing and thawing of concrete subjected freezing at early age, in which the effect of hydration is modified for its increase during rapid freezing and thawing test, is investigated.

  • For the conventional power metal-oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) device structure, there exists a tradeoff relationship between specific on-resistance ($R_{ON.SP}$) and breakdown voltage ($V_{BR}$). In order to overcome the tradeoff relationship, a uniform super-junction (SJ) trench metal-oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor (TMOSFET) structure is studied and designed. The structure modeling considering doping concentrations is performed, and the distributions at breakdown voltages and the electric fields in a SJ TMOSFET are analyzed. The simulations are successfully optimized by the using of the SILVACO TCAD 2D device simulator, Atlas. In this paper, the specific on-resistance of the SJ TMOSFET is successfully obtained 0.96 $m{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$, which is of lesser value than the required one of 1.2 $m{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$ at the class of 100 V and 100 A for BLDC motor.

  • Despite various devices have been developed and applied to stabilize the yaw motion, the superiority of twin skeg over other equi-functioned appendages has been recognized so far. In many cases, these skegs were installed with insufficient study and analysis for design, and this leads to the worse performance of their resistance and course keeping than required. Experimental studies on the effect of various kinds of anti-yawing skegs to the course keeping stability and on the additional resistance caused by them were carried out in the circulating water channel(CWC) at Chosun University(CU). Course keeping stability tests for four different size of skegs, resistance tests for three different shapes of skeg(including deformed skegs) were performed systematically. And the effect of angle of skegs on resistance was studied at the final stage.

  • It is well knownthat electroledd plating is the desirable surface treatment method which is being widely used to all kinds of material such as requiring corrosing resistance, wear resistance and conductivity, especially nonconductivity materials' surface plating. However, it is suggested that there are some problems that must be solved, for exaple, rate of plating, corrosion resistance, thickness of plating film etc. Therefore in this paper, when electroless nickel plating was performed on the PZT(Pb(Zr,Ti))with varying of solution composition such as NaOH, and $H_2NCH_2COOH$, the effect of the rate of plating and corrosion resistance were investigated.

  • The effect of matrix phase (austenite, pearlite, martensite) on the low stress abrasion resistance in the chromium-carbide-type high Cr white iorn hardfacing weld deposites has been investigated. In order to examine matrix phase, a series of alloys with different matrix phase by changing the ratio of Cr/C system by heat treatment were employed. The alloys were deposited twice on a mild steel plate using self-shielding flux cored arc welding process. The low stress abrasion resistance of the alloys against sands was measured by the Dry Sand/Rubber Wheel Abrasion Test(RWAT). Even though formation of pearlite phase in the matrix showed higher hardness than that of austenite, there was no observable difference in wear resistance between the pearlite and austenite phase for the same amount of chromium-carbide in the matrix. On the other hand, the formation of martensitic phase,, from heat treated austenitic alloys (high content of Cr), enhanced wear resistance due to its fine secondary precipitates.

  • This study employs an experimental design to investigate the conditions under which the use of AR may be particularly effective or rather ineffective in advertising contexts. We first discuss the inconsistent results regarding the effectiveness of AR on advertising message comprehension and argue that these inconsistencies can be at least partly explained by the moderating effect of an individual's resistance to innovation (i.e., AR technologies). We then provide statistically significant interaction effects between ad types (AR-based, traditional 2D) and innovation resistance. Finally, we suggest that the effect of AR on certain variables is constrained or unconstrained by an individual's level of receptivity or resistance to a new technology-based advertising platform, and that flow experience is equivalent regardless of these levels.

  • The four different polymer compounds were manufactured to make cable sheath for ship industry. Two kinds of ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) were selected as main matrix polymers for compounding with fire retardant, crosslinking agent, filler, plasticizer, and other additives. The properties of the four compounded materials were investigated with the contents of fire retardant, silane coated aluminum hydroxide (S-ATH). Rheology, Mooney viscosity, and tensile strength increased with S-ATH contents by reinforcing effect. With increasing fire retardant amount, fire resistance increased, but cold resistance didn't show an obvious enhancement due to polar effect of vinyl acetate in EVA.

  • Magnesium and its alloys are attracted towards all engineering applications like automotive, marine, aerospace etc. due to its inherent high strength to weight ratio. But, extensive use of Mg alloys is limited to the current scenario because of low wear and corrosion resistance behavior. However, equal channel angular press is one of the severe plastic deformation technique which has been effective method to improve the wear and corrosion resistance by achieving fine grain structure. In this study, the effect of grain refinement on wear and corrosion resistance of AZ80 Mg alloys were investigated. The wear behavior of the coarse and fine-grained Mg alloys was examined through $L_9$ orthogonal array experiments in order to comprehend the wear behavior under varies control parameters. It was shown that ECAPed alloy increased the wear and corrosion resistance of the Mg alloy through the formation of fine grain and uniform distribution of secondary ${\beta}-phase$. Also, the performance of AZ80 Mg alloy for these changeswas discussed through SEM morphology.

  • In this study, analyzed the effect of using CGS before and after the pre-treatment process as fine aggregate on the resistance to sulfate attack in concrete. As a result of the analysis, Although it showed a similar tendency to Plain (CS100), it is judged that it is necessary to analyze the resistance to sulfate attack due to the increase in immersion periods such as 180 days and 365 days.
