A meso-scale model is proposed to study filament-wound composites with fiber undulations and crossovers. First, the crossover and undulation region is classified as the circumferential undulation and the helical undulation. Next, the two undulations are separately regarded as a series of sub-models to describe the meso-structure of undulations by using meso-parameters such as fiber orientation, fiber inclination angle, resin rich area, fiber volume fraction and bundle cross section. With the meso-structure model and the classic laminate theory, a method for calculating the stiffness of filament wound composites is eventually established. The effects of the fiber inclination angle, the fiber and resin volume fraction and the resin rich area on the stiffness are studied. The numerical results show that the elastic moduli for the circumferential undulation region decrease to a great extent as compared with that of the helical undulation region. Moreover, significant decrease in the elastic and shear moduli and increase in the Poisson's ratio are also found for the resin rich area. In addition, thickness and bundle section have evident effect on the equivalent stiffness of the fiber crossover and the undulation region.
Objectives: To compare and evaluate the degree of abrasion of the denture base resin according to the type of denture cleansers. Methods: Denture base resin specimens were prepared and dried. The resin specimens were installed in the automatic brushing machine so that the toothbrush weighed 200 g. The brushing was performed 1,000 times each, a total of 10,000 times using (1) distilled water (DW), (2) non-abrasive cleanser (NAC), and (3) toothpaste (TP), respectively. Thirty specimens were allocated for each group. The thickness of abrasion by brushing was calculated by converting the weight of the specimen. Results: In all DW, NAC, and TP groups, significant differences were found in the average amount of abrasion of the resin specimen due to 1,000 to 10,000 brushings (p<0.001). The average abrasion amount of the resin specimen due to brushing 10,000 times was 2.31±1.20 ㎛ in DW group, 2.52±0.25 ㎛ in NAC group, 6.50±0.60 ㎛ in TP group, and the amount of abrasion in the TP group was statistically significant compared to other groups (p<0.001). Conclusions: The use of TP is not recommended as a method for maintaining the longevity of dentures and for oral health, and NAC was considered to be possible to be used as a denture cleanser because it had a similar amount of abrasion of that of DW.
This study was investigated on the properties of board made from carbonized rice husk differed in density of board, resin addition ratio and sawdust addition ratio. Water absorption is showed the lowest value to 80.09% when the resin addition ratio of 25%, as the density increased and sawdust addition ratio decreased, the water absorption was decreased. The measured thickness swelling satisfied with the quality standards of KS F 3104, so the feasibility of building interior has been confirmed in the dimensional stability. In case of resin addition ratio of 25%, the internal bond strength was satisfied quality standards of KS F 3104 to $0.244N/mm^2$. With increasing the density, resin and sawdust addition ratio, brinell hardness increased.
Purpose: This study is to compare the flexural strength and modulus by inserting a mesh and stick type fiberglass reinforcement into resin specimens. Methods: Wax specimens (length 64 mm, width 39 mm, thickness 5 mm) are prepared according to ISO 20795-1:2013. Mesh type and stick type glass fiber reinforcements were prepared. The prepared wax specimens were used plaster and flask for investment. The flask was separated and the wax was removed. The heat curing resin was injected into the flask, and then a mesh type and stick type fiberglass reinforcement were inserted. The prepared resin specimen was cut into three equal parts (length 64 mm, width 10 mm, thickness 3.3 mm). The mesh type glass fiber reinforcement (MT group) and the stick type glass fiber reinforcement (ST group) were classified into two groups. The prepared specimen was measured using a universal testing machine (UTM). The data were analyzed by Mann-Whitney U test, and the significance level was set to 0.05. Results: In the flexural strength, the ST group was higher than the MT group, and there was a significant difference between the two groups (p<0.05). In the flexural modulus, the ST group was higher than the MT group, and there was a significant difference between the two groups (p<0.05). Conclusion: The stick-type glass fiber inreased the flexural strength than the mesh-type glass fiber reinforcement.
This study was conducted to manufacture MDF panels bonded with PF resins which provide excellent durability and dimensional stability with panels, and to identify benefits and weaknesses of using PF resins for MDF panels that have been manufactured with urea-formaldehyde (UF) resins for interior applications due to its low dimensional stability under moisture conditions. The results showed that the performance of PF-bonded MDF panels satisfied the performance requirement. A six-cycle aging test also revealed that PF-bonded MDF panels had high durability. Thickness swelling after 24 hours submersion in cold water was less than 2 percent, showing good dimentioanl stability. The identified weaknesses of using PF resins were relatively high resin content and long hot-pressing time. An acceptable resin content appeared to be 8 percent which can increase the production cost of PF-bonded MDF panels. The hot-pressing time (7 minutes) used in this study is relatively long compared to that of UF-bonded MDF panels. This result also indicates that hot-pressing process has to be optimized to control various pressing variables.
PURPOSE. The aim was to study the masking ability of high-translucency monolithic zirconia and provide guidance in selecting resin luting cements in order to mask discolored substrates. MATERIALS AND METHODS. 160 high-translucency zirconia specimens were divided into 32 groups depending on their thickness and shades. Using five shades of try-in paste, the specimens were luted onto the substrates (Co-Cr, precious-metal, opaque porcelain-sintered Co-Cr, opaque porcelain-sintered precious-metal, and 5M3-shade zirconia). All CIELAB color parameters were measured and statistically analyzed. RESULTS. Zirconia shade and thickness and try-in paste shade affected CIELAB color parameters (P=.000) in different substrates groups, and there were interactions among these factors (P=.000). All five try-in paste shades can be chosen to achieve ${\Delta}E$ values of zirconia with 1.2 - 1.5 mm for masking dark-tooth-like 5M3-shade and zirconia with 1.5 mm for masking precious-metal groups < 2.6. Only suitable try-in paste shades were used, can ${\Delta}E$ values that less than 2.6 be achieved when applied translucent monolithic zirconia with 0.7-1.0 mm for masking dark-tooth-like 5M3-shade and zirconia with 0.7 - 1.2 mm for masking precious-metal groups. CONCLUSION. Choosing suitable resin cement shades is necessary for high-translucency monolithic zirconia to achieve ideal masking ability (${\Delta}E$ < 2.6) on the dark-tooth.

This study is on development of UV-cured hard coating compounds which have more improved abrasion resistance than existing UV-cured urethane-acrylic resin, to prevent a surface of a widely used PVC tile as a constructive material from being scratched. To make a high abrasion resistant hard coating solution compared to UV-cured urethane-acrylic resin which has no abrasion resistance and been used for PVC tiles, we added powder substances of different abrasion resistant level, $Al_2O_3$(Al-160SG-3), $Al(OH)_3$(SH-8W), $SiO_2$(KS-5000), etc., to the resin, changing their contents from 10% to 30% against quantities of resin, and compounded it using Ring-Mill. After coating PVC tiles with the hard coating solution using bar-coating method that can adjust a thickness, we estimated some surface properties-abrasion resistance, pencil hardness, adhesive power, thickness of coating, and so on. As a result, a hard coating solution added 30% $Al_2O_3$ powder to the resin had the finest surface properties-the first grade in abrasion resistance, H in pencil hardness, 100% in adhesive power, and a hard coating solution which showed excellent solidity and abrasion resistance has smaller particle size, higher powder content, and thicker coating thickness.

PURPOSE. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of resin cement color, cement thickness, and thermocycling on the final color of monolithic lithium disilicate crowns. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A total of ninety prepared central incisors of typodont teeth were restored with lithium disilicate crowns which have different cement thicknesses (40 ㎛, 80 ㎛, and 120 ㎛) and cement shades (clear, yellow, and white). Color parameters of restorations were measured with a spectrophotometer in three different steps 1) before cementing 2) after cementing and 3) after thermocycling with 10000 cycles. Color differences (ΔE00) were calculated with the CIEDE2000 formula and evaluated according to perceptibility (0.8) and acceptability (1.8) thresholds. The ΔE00 data were analyzed by using two-way ANOVA before and after thermocycling (α = .05). RESULTS. There was no interaction between the cement shade and the cement thickness factors. After cementation, the mean ΔE00 was under the perceptibility threshold in the group of 40 ㎛ cement thickness and clear cement while it was between the perceptibility and acceptability thresholds (0.8 < ΔE00 < 1.8) for all other groups. After thermocycling, the ΔE00 values were between the perceptibility and acceptability thresholds for all experimental groups. Although there were no significant differences among the groups, thermocycling increased the color difference values. CONCLUSION. The cementation of restorations with clear, yellow, and white resin cements resulted in color differences with uncemented restorations except for the group cemented with clear cement in 40 ㎛ cement thickness. All study groups revealed perceptible color change after thermocycling.

Glass/resin/glass laminate structures are used in the automobile, biological, and display industries. The sandwich structures are used in the micro/nanoimprint process to fabricate a variety of functional components and devices in fields such as display, optics, MEMS, and bioindustry. In the process, micrometer- or nanometer-scale patterns are transferred onto the substrate using UV curing resins. The demodling process has an important impact on productivity. In this study, we investigated the fracture behavior of glass/resin/glass laminates fabricated via UV curing. We performed measurements of the adhesion force and the interfacial energy between the mold and resin materials using the four-point flexural test. The bending-test measurements and the load-displacement curves of the laminates indicate that the fracture behavior is influenced by the interfacial energy between the mold and resin and the resin thickness.
Objectives: It is difficult to achieve adhesion between resin cement and zirconia ceramics using routine surface preparation methods. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of $CO_2$ and Er:YAG laser treatment on the bond strength of resin cement to zirconia ceramics. Materials and Methods: In this in-vitro study 45 zirconia disks (6 mm in diameter and 2 mm in thickness) were assigned to 3 groups (n = 15). In control group (CNT) no laser treatment was used. In groups COL and EYL, $CO_2$ and Er:YAG lasers were used for pretreatment of zirconia surface, respectively. Composite resin disks were cemented on zirconia disk using dual-curing resin cement. Shear bond strength tests were performed at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min after 24 hr distilled water storage. Data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and post hoc Tukey's HSD tests. Results: The means and standard deviations of shear bond strength values in the EYL, COL and CNT groups were $8.65{\pm}1.75$, $12.12{\pm}3.02$, and $5.97{\pm}1.14MPa$, respectively. Data showed that application of $CO_2$ and Er:YAG lasers resulted in a significant higher shear bond strength of resin cement to zirconia ceramics (p < 0.0001). The highest bond strength was recorded in the COL group (p < 0.0001). In the CNT group all the failures were adhesive. However, in the laser groups, 80% of the failures were of the adhesive type. Conclusions: Pretreatment of zirconia ceramic via $CO_2$ and Er:YAG laser improves the bond strength of resin cement to zirconia ceramic, with higher bond strength values in the $CO_2$ laser treated samples.
