The continuous fiber reinforced composites of GF/PA were fabricated using a pultrusion resin impregnation apparatus and cut into pellets of 6 mm length. GF/PA pellets were then melt-mixed with PP resin to prepare new types of ternary composites, GF/PA/PP. Mechanical and rheological properties of such composites revealed to be better than conventional ternary composites due to the longer average glass fibers. Measurements also showed that the mechanical properties of the composites prepared by direct injection molding were higher than those of the composites prepared by injection molding followed by extrusion. To improve adhesions of fiber surfaces and polymer matrix, PP-MAH (maleic anhydride) has been introduced in the GF/PA/PP composites as a compatibilizer. It was found that PP-MAH did indeed improve surface adhesion between fibers and polymer matrix and that, as a result, various mechanical properties were markedly enhanced. Visualization of the phase structure in the samples was done by means of SEM. The surfaces of glass fibers in GF/PA/PP composites revealed that the fibers remained to be encapsulated by PA resin. However, pre-encapsulation did not persist in GF/PA/PP/PP-MAH composites due to the improvement of surface adhesion between fibers and polymer matrix, although resin sticking to the fiber was observed.
To improve the application of polymeric dental restorative composite (PDRC) for the posterior and anterior restoration, silica bridged with siloxane unit was firstly prepared by heat-treating a silica filler at various temperatures. Degree of conversion (DC), depth of cure, and dynamic volumetric polymerization shrinkage values of PDRC filled with silica bridged with siloxane unit were investigated to study the effect of heat-treated silica on the polymerization behavior of PDRC. From the experimental result, it was found that depth of cure was decreased with an increase of heat treatment temperature. on the other hand, both DC and polymerization shrinkage values were uniformly enhanced with increasing the heat treatment temperature. This phenomenon can be explained from the study that showed decrease of average particle size of silica resulted in the increase of relative amount of resin matrix in PDRC.
Organo-montmorillonite (OMMT) has attracted much attention for fiber-reinforced polymer composites as a filler material due to high aspect ratio and low charge density. The present study focused on the fabrication of nanocomposites using Vinyl ester and Jute fabric as matrix and reinforcement respectively. The OMMT was uniformly dispersed in vinyl ester resin at 1, 2 and 3 wt%, loading through high speed mechanical stirrer at room temperature and further nanocomposites were manufactured through vacuum assisted resin infusion (VARI) technique. Effects of OMMT on the mechanical properties of vinyl ester/Jute composites were carefully investigated through tensile, bending and Izod impact tests, which revealed significant improvement in mechanical properties. The morphology of the nanocomposites after tensile test was investigated by SEM which affirmed that OMMT filled nanocomposites has improved interactions with the host matrix than the pure composites. Based on the nature and flame retardancy mechanism, the OMMT slightly improved the flammability property which was clearly explained by horizontal burning test.

In the current study explain about the bio-based composites made by groundnut shell as reinforcement with polyester resin matrix. Groundnut shell is an abundantly available natural waste byproduct and poly ester resin is widely used to fabricate of composites for good balance of mechanical properties because it is relatively low price and ease of handling. Evaluate the mechanical properties of manufactured groundnut shell/polyester composites by varying the amounts (wt %) of groundnut shell. Particulate shell reinforced polyester composites incorporating varying amounts of groundnut shell (5, 10, 15 and 20%) were characterized for their tensile strength, flexural strength, and impact strength. The mechanical properties improved with increasing particle loading up to 15% and decreased thereafter. Increasing in strength with increased particle shell loading was attributed to increase in surface area which enhanced load transfer between the polyester matrix and ground shall particulates. Scanning electron microscopic studies have been carried out to study the morphology of the composite. Thermal studies and water absorption properties of the composites also studied in this paper.
The prime objective of this research was to study the influence of hot-pressing pressure and matrix-to-reinforcement ratio on the densification of short-carbon-fiber-reinforced, randomly oriented carbon/carbon-composite. Secondary objectives included determination of the physical and mechanical properties of the resulting composite. The 'hybrid carbon-fiber-reinforced mesophase-pitch-derived carbon-matrix' composite was fabricated by hot pressing. During hot pressing, pressure was varied from 5 to 20 MPa, and reinforcement wt% from 30 to 70. Densification of all the compacts was carried at low impregnation pressure with phenolic resin. The effect of the impregnation cycles was determined using measurements of microstructure and density. The results showed that effective densification strongly depended on the hot-pressing pressure and reinforcement wt%. Furthermore, results showed that compacts processed at lower hot-pressing pressure, and at higher reinforcement wt%, gained density gradually during three densification cycles and showed the symptoms of further gains with additional densification cycles. In contrast, samples that were hot-pressed at moderate pressure and at moderate reinforcement wt%, achieved maximum density within three densification cycles. Furthermore, examination of microstructure revealed the formation of cracks in samples processed at lower pressure and with low reinforcement wt%.

Acetic acid and succinic acid bonded polyamine-polyurea(CPPI and SAPPI) resins were synthesized from the reaction of polyethylenimine-polymethylenepolyphenylene isocyanate(PPI) resin as matrix polymer and chloroacetic acid and chlorosuccinic acid respectively. These resins were confirmed with infrared spectrometry and elemental analysis. The adsorption characteristics of the chromium(III) and dichromate(or chromate) ions on the resins were studied by measuring distribution coefficients($K_d$) with changing pH of the solution. It was thought that these ions were adsorbed by ion exchange mechanism. Chromium(III) and dichromate ion could be separated with stepwise elution method by changing pH of the eluent using SAPPI resin packed column($0.6cm(i.\;d.){\times}10cm(L.)$). Also, dichromate ion could be preconecntrated with CPPI resin column by a concentration factor of 50.
Objectives: The resin infiltration technique is a promising alternative therapy for arresting the early dental caries. However, there are very few reports on the safety and biocompatibility of this technique. We evaluated various properties of resin infiltrant (RI) based on a triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA).The water sorption (Wsp) and water solubility (Wsl) was assessed. Additionally, the cytotoxicity of RI against both animal and human fibroblast cell lines was investigated. Methods: The RI of the $Icon^{(R)}$, the first product developed for resin infiltration, is mainly composed of TEGDMA in the resin matrix. The Wsp and Wsl for the RI were measured in accordance with ISO 4049 specifications. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was used for analyzing the polymerization before and after curing of RI. The cytotoxicity of RI against the mouse fibroblasts (L929) and human gingival fibroblasts (hTERT-hNOF) was evaluated using MTT [3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide] assay and the data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance. Results: Wsp and Wsl of the RI specimens were $53.37{\mu}g/mm^3$ and $10.6{\mu}g/mm^3$, respectively. FTIR analysis revealed a slightly higher degree of curing with longer irradiation time. The degree of conversion for RI was high (80.9%) after 40 seconds of light curing. There was a significant decrease in the viability of L929 and hTERT-hNOF cells at RI extraction solution concentrations above 50%, respectively, compared to that in the negative control (p< 0.05). Conclusions: Even though the RI exhibited positive effect on the early prevention of dental caries, the clinicians should also consider the toxicity of RI on periodontal tissues.

In this study, carbon fiber reinforced polymeric (CFRP) composites with different resin composition were manufactured and resin formulation in composite materials were presented through tensile tests for cryogenic use. Thermo-mechanical cyclic loading (up to 6 cycles) was applied to CFRP unidirectional laminate specimens from room temperature to $-150^{\circ}C$. Tensile tests were then performed at $-150^{\circ}C$ using an environmental test chamber. In addition, matrix-dominant properties such as the transverse and in-plane shear characteristics of each composite model were measured at $-150^{\circ}C$ to examine the effects of resin formulation on their interfacial properties. The tensile tests showed that the composite models with large amounts of bisphenol-A epoxy and CTBN modified rubber in their resin composition had good mechanical performance at cryogenic temperature (CT).
For the development of new material used bentonite in ceramic/organic material composite, ABS(acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene) material was used as a matrix polymer and a series of bentonite was blended together. This bentonite, filler like talc or mica for plastic material, was used since natural bentonite(Ca type) is easily obtainable in Korea, Na-bentonite changed from natural bentonite by $Na_2CO_3$ based on the specified compositions, changes in the static and dynamic mechanical properties. It was discovered that the increased content of natural and Na- bentonite results in higher modulus with reduced impact strength. And Rockwell hardness was constant. And Na- bentonite filled polymer showed improvement in impact strength and lower in modulus as the natural bentonite filled polymer. The storage modulus(E') of Na- bentonite filled ABS resin was higher than that of Ca- bentonite filled ABS resin, while higher temperature, storage modulus(E') decreased. At higher frequency, tan ${\delta}$ peak was shifted at high temperature.
Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been widely investigated as reinforcements of CNT/polymer nanocomposites to enhance mechanical and electrical properties of polymer matrices since their discovery in the early 90's. Furthermore, the number of studies about incorporating CNTs into carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) to reinforce their polymer matrices is increasing recently. In this study, single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNT) were dispersed in epoxy with 0.2 wt.% and 0.5 wt.%. Then, the SWNT/epoxy mixtures were processed to carbon fiber composites by a vacuum assisted resin transfer molding (VARTM) and a wet lay up method. The processed composite samples were tested for the interlaminar shear strength (ILSS). The relationship between the interlaminar shear strengths and processing, and the reinforcement mechanism of carbon nanotubes were investigated. CNT/epoxy nanocomposite specimens showed the increased tensile properties. However, the ILSS of carbon fiber composites was not enhanced by reinforcing the matrix with CNTs because of processing issues caused by increased viscosity of the matrix due to addition of CNTs particularly for a VARTM method.
