  • It is necessary to develop soft magnetic layer with high saturation magnetization 4 $\pi{M}_s$ and in-plane magnetic anisotropy field Hk for soft magnetic underlayer of perpendicular magnetic recording media with high signal to noise ratio. Fe-Co-B layer with high 4 $\pi$Ms of about 23 kG deposited on Ni-Fe and Ni-Fe/Si seedlayer exhibited very high in-plane magnetic anisotropy filed Hk of about 280 and 380 Oe, respectively, In-plane XRD studies clarified that the lattice spacing of planes along the easy axis direction was longer than that along the hard axis direction in the Fe-Co-B layers with high Hk. These results indicate that high Hk of Fe-Co-B/Ni-Fe and Fe-Co-B/[Ni-Fe/si] layers were resulted from magnetoelastic anisotropy owing to a residual stress. Moreover, the high Hk in the Fe-Co-B/Ni-Fe layer was maintained until 30$0^{\circ}C$ annealing temperature.

  • A pilot-scale experiment for the treatment of red tide in the enclosure was done in sea area of Shandong Province, P. R. China on Aug. 25, 2002. With the method of strong dielectric barrier discharge in microgap, $O_2$in air and $H_2O$ in seawater are ionized and dissociated into large numbers of OHㆍradicals, and then dissolved into a part of seawater to form OHㆍsolution of high concentration. With OH' concentration of 0.68mg/L, the kill efficiencies of 29 kinds of red tide organisms such as Chaetoceros lorenzianus and so on reached 99.89%, in which the kill efficiencies of bacterium and vibrio were 100%, and that of Gonyaulax cysts and Prei. Cysts were up to 100%. At the same time, the content of chlorophyll-a was decreased into the lowest limit of test. DO saturation of seawater was greatly increased to 100% because the residual OHㆍradical was decomposed into $H_2O$ and $O_2$after 20 minutes, Therefore the treatment of red tide using OHㆍradicals is a kind of advanced oxidation technology, which realizes zero pollution, zero emission and zero residual in the process of the production of OHㆍradicals and the treatment of red tide.

  • The purpose of this paper was to derive soil-water characteristic curve equation for unsaturated soil. To this end, a series of suction measured test was conducted on the selected 4 kinds of soil which is located in Korea, used the modified pressure plate apparatus. From the test results, it was proved that characteristic curve changes according to grain size distribution, size of void and fine grained soil contents. Residual degree of saturation(Sr) was decreased with void ratio and changed with fine grained soil contents, parameter ${\lambda}$ and hr was increased with void ratio. Soil-water characteristic curve equation based on the test result was suggested by void ratio or grain size distribution.

  • This study is intended as an investigation of the EK remediation characteristics of natural soil with treatment time under unsaturated conditions. EK tests are performed under the voltage gradient of 1V/cm, the degree of saturation of 82.8%, and the installing of cation exchange membrane. It was found from the results that the acid front is initially transported at 0.75cm/day and then continuously degreased until the transport velocity of the acid front is balanced to the velocity of the base front. The residual lead concentration indicated the maximum value at the treatment time of lOdays, then the increasing of treatment time largely decreases the concentration within the sample though electromigration than electroosmosis.

  • Change of magnetic properties in CoCrPt/Ti perpendicular media with varying CoCrPt film thickness has been studied. As the CoCrPt film thickness increases from 25 nm, the Ms (saturation magnetization) increases rapidly at first and then more gradually. This Ms behavior is associated primarily with the formation of an "amorphous-like"reacted layer created by intermixing of CoCrPt and Ti at the CoCrPt/Ti interface and secondarily with a change of the Cr segregation mode with varying CoCrPt film thickness. Magnetic domain structure distinctively changes with increasing CsCrPt magnetic layer (ML) thickness. Also the strength of exchange coupling measured from the slope in the demagnetizing region of the M-H loop changes with ML thickness. The expansion of lattice parameters a and c at smaller film thickness suggests that the Cr segregation mode may be connected with the residual stress of the films. Finally, the negative nucleation field (Hn) shows a unique behavior with the change of strength of the exchange interaction.teraction.

  • The effect of cold reduction ratio on magnetic properties of 45% Ni-Fe permalloy was studied. To know the relationship between the crystal orientation and the magnetic properties, the pole figure was measured by X-ray diffraction method. In the case of single rolled reduction, the coercive force decreased with cold reduction ratio monotonically, but the maximum permeability, induction and squreness increased drastically. In the case of double rolled reduction (total reduction ratio is 90%), the saturation and residual induction increased slightly with secondary reduction ratio, but the maximum permeability and the coercive force had the maximum and the minimum value at the 50/50% reduction ratio respectively. And strong {100} <100> pole was developed by increasing the cold reduction ratio.

  • We conducted simple experiments to consider the influence of nonlinear groundwater flow on Trichloroethylene (TCE) as Dense Non-Aqueous Phase Liquid (DNAPL) migration in a rough walled single fracture. A glass replica of a granite sample containing a rough single fracture was made and experiments were conducted over a range of Re. Observations are compared to the results of TCE migration tests that were conducted in two parallel glass plates over the same range of Re. Results show nonlinear groundwater flow in a single fracture affect TCE migration path and residual saturation of TCE.

  • A physical model experiment with GPR and 3-D resisitivity survey were conducted to investigate the geoelectrical response of hydrocarbon-impacted zone, so called smeared zone, on the geophysical data. The results from the experiment show that GPR signals were enhanced when LNAPL was present as a residual saturation in the water saturated system (${\varepsilon}_r$ = 21) due to less attenuation of the electromagnetic energy through the medium, compared to when the medium was saturated with only water (${\varepsilon}_r$ = 21). 3-D resistivity data obtained from the former gas station site demonstrate that the highly contaminated zones could be imaged with low resistivities attributed to the biodegradation of petroleum hydrocarbons at the aged, hydrocarbon-impacted sites. The study results also show that the geophysical methods, as a non-invasive sounding technique, can be a very useful tool for mapping hydrocarbon-contaminated zones.

  • A fault detector was developed for heat exchangers of a hybrid heat pump (HP) for household. The proposed detector can be applied directly to raw operating data. It is to monitor a tracking error between a measured saturation temperature and its state observer. The observer was estimated from a state-space model simulating dynamics of a heat exchanger. The real hybrid HP was substituted with a dynamic simulator that implemented two-phased heat transfer and was validated by experimental data. And artificial fault data were generated using the simulator. Diagnosing the data showed the following. The residual calculated from the state observer error shows a relatively robust consistency with respect fouling level. The fault detector is practically useful because it detects a threshold fouling beyond which the performance starts to deteriorate significantly.
