This study examined the welding residual stress and fracture toughness of 78mm thick steel electro gas welding (EGW) and flux cored arc welding (FCAW) welded joints by numerical analyses of the thermal elasto-plastic behavior and fracture toughness(KIC). The residual stress, fracture toughness characteristics and production mechanism on the welded joints were clarified. Moreover, the effects of the welding process (EGW and FCAW) on the welding residual stresses and fracture toughness of welded joints were evaluated. The results showed that the new welding process (EGW) appears to be an effective substitute for the existing welding process (FCAW) in a thick steel plate with high strength.
Some structural members of large-scale marine vessels such as large-scale offshore structures and very large container ships are assembled by very thick plates of which thickness exceeds 60mm. Also, high-tensile steels have been selected to meet the required structural strength and fatigue strength. Generally, multi-pass welding method such as FCA(Flux-Core Arc) welding has been used to join the thick plates. Considering the welding residual stresses, fatigue strength of the welded joints of thick plates should be assured since the residual stress influences the fatigue strength. This paper presents a numerical procedure to investigate the residual stress of structure joined by multi-pass FCA welding so that it can be incorporated into the fatigue strength assessment considering the effect of welding residual stress. The residual stress distribution is also measured by X-Ray diffraction method. The residual stress obtained by the computational model also has been compared with that of experiment. The results of FEA are in very good agreement with the experimental measurements.
The hall sensor is current detector using hall effect in semiconductor and the conventional type detect current with concentrating flux by current of conductor. So, detection of small current is very difficult because of residual magnetism. This paper give the experiments based results about method that detect the small DC current using minimizing the residual of hall element by magnetic modulation and concentrating flux. The suggested sensor can dector small current better than the conventional that.
For a more effectively designed gravity thickener, thickening experiments were conducted for residuals produced by a ceramic membrane water treatment plant (WTP). Two kinds of residuals, one from backwashing (BW) and the other from chemically enhanced backwashing (CEB) procedure, were separately collected during a pilot plant experiment and their limiting solid flux ($SF_L$) measured. Batch thickening experiments showed that the BW and CEB residual had $SF_L$ of 10 and $25kg/m^2{\cdot}d$, respectively. Continuous operation of a pilot-scale gravity thickener proved that a mixed BW and CEB residual could be successfully thickened at the solid loading rate (SLR) of $12kg/m^2{\cdot}d$, allowing the concentration of the thickened residual to be about $15kg/m^2{\cdot}d$. From the experimental results and consideration of the seasonal thickening characteristics of the residual, SLR of $15kg/m^2{\cdot}d$ was proposed as a design parameter for full-scale gravity thickeners.
The effects of heat treatment on the fatigue life and welding residual stress of welded plates were investigated in this study. The plates were welded by flux cored arc welding process, and post weld heat treated at $600^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. The residual stresses of welded plates before and after post weld heat treatment were measured by hole drilling method. To measure the fatigue life of welded plates, low cycle fatigue tests under strain control and high cycle fatigue tests under load control were performed respectively, by using cylindrical specimens containing weld metal and heat affected zone. The obtained result shows that the post weld heat treatment reduces the residual stress, and resultantly changes the fatigue life of welded plate. Goodman diagrammatic analysis has also been performed to study the effect of post weld heat treatment on the high cycle fatigue life.
This paper presents a new sensorless control method for single-phase switched reluctance motors using induced electromotive force (EMF) due to the residual flux both on the stator and the rotor during phase commutation. The induced EMF falls to zero when the rotor pole moves away from the overlap with the stator pole. By detecting this instant, the speed and position of the rotor can be simply estimated. This method is very simple to implement and it is insensitive to variations in the system parameters as it does not require any stored magnetic data or offline inductance measurements but requires only measurements of the terminal voltage and a simple analog circuit. The proposed method is implemented on a 6/6 single-phase switched reluctance motor. However, it can also be implemented on a multiphase SRM regardless of the size, operation speed and switching mode of the motor hence making the proposed method viable to many applications. Simulation and experimental verification is provided to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method.

This paper presents an algorithm for detecting current transformer (CT) saturation. At the instants of beginning (or end) of saturation, as a magnetizing inductance of the core is changed significantly, the shapes of the secondary current are also changed significantly though secondary currents are continuous the instants. At the instants, the second-order of third-order difference of the secondary current has big values. Thus, the third difference of the current is used to detect the beginning/end of CT saturation in this paper. If the magnitude of third-order difference of the secondary current is larger than a threshold value, the CT begins of ends saturation at the instants. The proposed detection method is unaffected by the amount of residual flux. The results of various tests with residual flux from -80% to +80% indicate satisfactory performance of the method.
Evaluation of fracture toughness of welded structures has a significant influence on the structural design. However the residual stresses is redistributed while the welded structures is cut for preparing specimens. This study investigated an effect of the welding residual stress redistribution on the impact absorption energy of Charpy specimen. SA516Gr70 steel plate by at the flux cored arc welding (FCAW) and gas tungsten arc welding(GTAW) was cutting. Specimens for Charpy impact testing were taken from the welded plate. Two material removal mechanisms (wire cutting and water jet) were used to make the specimens. Welding residual stress and redistribution residual stress were measured using the XRD (X-Ray Diffraction) method. The amount of redistribution of residual stress depends on the different material removal mechanism. Redistribution of residual stress of reduced the impact absorption energy by 15%.

Several adhesive tapes have been studied in terms of their suitability for securing gold wires into positions for neutron flux measurements in the reactor core and irradiation facilities surrounding the core of the Open Pool Australian Light water (OPAL) reactor. Gamma ray spectrometry has been performed on each irradiated tape in order to identify and quantify activated components. Numerous metallic impurities have been identified in all tapes. Calculations relating to both the effective neutron shielding properties of the tapes and the error in measurement of the $^{198}Au$ activity caused by superfluous activity due to residual tape have been made. The most important identified effects were the prolonged cooling times required before safe enough levels of radioactivity to allow handling were reached, and extra activity caused by residual tape when measured with an ionisation chamber. Knowledge of the most suitable tape can allow a minimal contribution due to these effects, and the use of gamma spectrometry in preference to ionisation chamber measurements of the flux wires is shown to make all systematic errors due to the tape completely negligible.
