Background: Obtaining precise hemodynamic and morphological information in the early postoperative period after surgical correction of congenital heart disease is important in determining the need for future medical or surgical intervention. We investigated the residual shunting after surgical repair of simple ventricular septal defect in order to know the incidence of residual shunting in the postoperative period and the natural history of small residual shunts located in the peripatch area. Material and Method: Forty three consecutive patients under one year of age who underwent patch repair of a simple ventricular septal defect were evaluated for incidence of residual shunts by echocardiography. Result: Eleven patients had echocardiographic residual shunt in the peripatch area at immediate postoperative period, however, there were no patients who needed reoperation due to deteriorated hemodynamic effect of residual shunt. The incidence of residual shunts was not significantly different with type of ventricular septal defect and material used for closure. During follow up period, two patients were lost and remaining nine patients no longer showed evidence of residual shunt. The mean time of last evidence of shunt was $4.2{\pm}3.6$ months after operation. Conclusion: Residual peripatch shunt flow was frequently noted in the immediate postoperative period following surgical repair of ventricular septal defect, however, most of them were disappeared within six months.

We have carried out highway traffic noise prediction and measurement for 10 sites with representative road shapes and structures. A road traffic noise prediction model(NIER('99)) has been developed for environmental impact assessment in Korea. With the fitted regression analysis, the distribution ratio($R^2$) and Pearson correction coefficient(r) was 92.4% and 0.96 in $1^{st}$ floor, 38.7% and 0.66 in $3^{rd}$ floor, 42% and 0.65 in $5^{th}$ floor, 7.5% and 0.27 in $7^{th}$ floor, 28.4% and 0.53 in 10th floor, 35.6% and 0.60 in $13^{th}$ floor, 52.7% and 0.73 in $15^{th}$ floor, respectively. The measured values of the noise level except the 1st floor did not show a good agreement with the predicted noise level in the NIER('99) formula. Also, the NIER('99) formula demonstrated that the measured values weren't reasonably close to the predicted values, indicating the validity and adequacy of the predicted models with the fitted vs residual analysis in the 95% of confidence interval and 95% of predict interval. Using the equal variation on the basis of the residual vs fitted value, there was the significant difference for variation between $3^{rd}$ floor and $15^{th}$ floor except $1^{st}$ floor. The results suggested that the NIER('99) model obtained by the results according to the apartment floor must be improved and developed on the road traffic noise.
A tear lens formed by between back surface of spherical rigid gas permeable(RGP) contact lens and front surface of cornea shows an excellent correction effect of astigmatism. To study an effects of tear lens power using spherical RGP lens and therefore to utilize them in clinical procedures, we analyze a change of the total astigmatism, the cornea astigmatism, and the residual astigmatism, we derive the following conclusion. 1. Almost all refractive astigmatism below than 2.00D present fully corrected. Thereby resulting good visual acuity. Refractive astigmatism higher than 2.50D show under-corrected and apparent decrease of visual acuity if it is higher than 3.00D. 2. Amount of corneal astigmatism below than 2.50D show acceptable under-corrected while higher than 3.000 present unacceptable visual acuity. 3. An estimated residual astigmatism is not revealed as it is : but it is reduced when it incorporate to refractive astigmatism.
A problem of ground subsidence has been a focus of our research over the past 3 years. The purpose of this study is to investigate the disturbed stratigraphic structure by mining and to separate the possible ground subsidence area using shallow seismic reflection survey and processing. To overcome the problems such as the distortion and attenuation of seismic signal caused by ground disturbance and to acquire the high frequency data, an array with short spacing (0.3m) for both the shot and receivers, yielding near-offset (<30m) and CMP spacing of 0.15m was implemented. Data were acquired along the survey line with length of about 43m by fixed receiver array. By considering statics caused by the ground disturbance and offset distribution of data, careful processing steps such as muting and residual statics correction were applied for successful shallow reflection imaging. By correlating the ground subsidence data and stack section, possible subsidence zone could be interpreted quantitatively.

To evaluate the effects of spherical aberration (SA) correction on optical quality in pseudophakic eyes, we simulated the optical quality of the human eye by computation of the modulation transfer function (MTF). We reviewed the medical records of patients who underwent cataract surgery in Asan Medical Center, retrospectively. A Zywave aberrometer was used to measure optical aberrations at 1-12 postoperative months in patients with AR40e intraocular lens implants. The MTF was calculated for a 5 mm pupil from measured wavefront aberrations. The area under the MTF curve (aMTF) was analyzed and the maximal aMTF was calculated while changing the SA ($-0.2{\sim}+0.2{\mu}m$) and the defocus (-2.0 ~ +2.0 D). Sixty-four eyes in 51 patients were examined. The maximal aMTF was $6.61{\pm}2.16$ at a defocus of $-0.25{\pm}0.66D$ with innate SA, and $7.64{\pm}2.63$ at a defocus of $0.08{\pm}0.53D$ when the SA was 0 (full correction of SA). With full SA correction, the aMTF increased in 47 eyes (73.4%; Group 1) and decreased in 17 eyes (26.6%; Group 2). There were statistically significant differences in Z(3, -1) (vertical coma; P = 0.01) and Z(4, 4) (tetrafoil; P = 0.04) between the groups. The maximal aMTF was obtained at an SA of $+0.01{\mu}m$ in Group 1 and an SA of $+0.13{\mu}m$ in Group 2. Optical quality can be improved by full correction of SA in most pseudophakic eyes. However, residual SA might provide benefits in eyes with significant radially asymmetric aberrations.
The differential correction process determining osculating orbital elements as correct as possible at a given instant of time from tracking data of artificial satellite was accomplished. Preliminary orbital elements were used as an initial value of the differential correction procedure and iterated until the residual of real observation (O) and computed observation(C) was minimized. Tracking satellite was NOAA-9 or TIROS-N series. Two types of tracking data were prediction data precomputed from mean orbital elements of TBUS and real data obtained from tracking 1.70 GHz HRPT signal of NOAA-9 using 5 meter auto-track antenna in Radio Research Laboratory. Accrding to thacking data either Gause method or Herrick-Gibbs method was applied to preliminary orbit determination. In the differential correction stage we used both of the Escobal(1975)'s analytical method and numerical method using f, g series for the comparision. The results between analytical and numerical ones are nearly consistent. And the differentially corrected orbit converged to the same value in spite of the differences between preliminary orbits of each time span.

Estimation of the residual strength of corroded reinforced concrete beams has been studied from experimental and theoretical perspectives. The former is arduous as it involves casting beams of various sizes, which are then subjected to various degrees of corrosion damage. The latter are static; hence cannot be generalized as new coefficients need to be re-generated for new cases. This calls for dynamic models that are adaptive to new cases and offer efficient generalization capability. Computational intelligence techniques have been applied in Construction Engineering modeling problems. However, these techniques have not been adequately applied to the problem addressed in this paper. This study extends the empirical model proposed by Azad et al. (Mag Concr Res 62(6):405-414, 2010), which considered all the adverse effects of corrosion on steel. We proposed four artificial neural networks (ANN) models to predict the residual flexural strength of corroded RC beams using the same data from Azad et al. (2010). We employed two modes of prediction: through the correction factor ($C_f$) and through the residual strength ($M_{res}$). For each mode, we studied the effect of fixed and random data stratification on the performance of the models. The results of the ANN models were found to be in good agreement with experimental values. When compared with the results of Azad et al. (2010), the ANN model with randomized data stratification gave a $C_f$-based prediction with up to 49 % improvement in correlation coefficient and 92 % error reduction. This confirms the reliability of ANN over the empirical models.
Study Design: A case study. Purpose: To assess the chronological changes of the disease-related kyphosis after chemotherapy alone, secondly to clarify the role of growth cartilage in the healed lesion on kyphosis change, and to define the accurate prediction time in assessing residual kyphosis. Overview of Literature: None of the previous papers up to now dealt with the residual kyphosis, stability and remodeling processes of the affected segments. Methods: One hundred and one spinal tuberculosis children with various stages of disease processes, age 2 to 15 years, were the subject materials, between 1971 to 2010. They were treated with two different chemotherapy formula: before 1975, 18 months of triple chemotherapy (isoniazid [INH], para-aminosalicylic acid, streptomycin); and since 1976, 12 months triple chemotherapy (INH, rifampicin, ethambutol, or pyrazinamide). The first assessment at post-chemotherapy one year and at the final discharge time from the follow-up (36 months at minimum and 20 years at maximum) were analyzed by utilizing the images effect of the remaining growth plate cartilage on chronological changes of kyphosis after initiation of chemotherapy. Results: Complete disc destruction at the initial examination were observed in two (5.0%) out of 40 cervical spine, eight (26.7%) out of 30 dorsal spine, and six (19.4%) out of 31 lumbosacral spine. In all those cases residual kyphosis developed inevitably. In the remainders the discs were partially preserved or remained intact. Among 101 children kyphosis was maintained without change in 20 (19.8%), while kyphosis decreased in 14 children (13.7%), and increased in 67 children (66.3%) with non-recoverably damaged growth plate, respectively. Conclusions: It could tentatively be possible to predict the deformity progress or non-progress and spontaneous correction at the time of initial treatment, but it predictive accuracy was low. Therefore, assessment of the trend of kyphotic change is recommended at the end of chemotherapy. In children with progressive curve change, the deformity assessment should be continued till the maturity.
We propose a new method of masking cloud-affected pixels in satellite ocean color imageries such as of GLI. Those pixels, mostly found around cloud pixels or in scattered cloud area, have anomalous features in either in chlorophyll-a estimate or in water reflectance. This artifact is most likely caused by residual error of inter-band registration correction. Our method is to check the pixel-wise 'soundness' of the spectral water reflectance Rw retrieved after the atmospheric correction. First, we define two spectral ratio between water reflectance, IRR1 and IRR2, each defined as RW(B1)/RW (B3) RW (B3) and as RW (B2)/RW(B4) respectively, where $B1{\sim}B4$ stand for 4 consecutive visible bands. We show that an almost linear relation holds over log-scaled IRR1 and IRR2 for shipmeasured RW data of SeaBAM in situ data set and for GLI cloud-free Level 2 sub-scenes. The method we propose is to utilize this nature, identifying those pixels that show significant discrepancy from that relationship. We apply this method to ADEOS-II/GLI ocean color data to evaluate the performance over Level-2 data, which includes different water types such as case 1, turbid case 2 and coccolithophore bloom waters.
In recent years, the need of high accuracy navigation for vehicles has increased due to the development of autonomous driving vehicles and increase in land transportation convenience. This study is performed for vehicle users to achieve a performance of centimeter-level positioning accuracy by utilizing Compact Network Real-time Kinematic (RTK) that is applicable as a national-level infrastructure. To this end, medium-baseline RTK was implemented in real time to estimate accurate integer ambiguities between reference stations for reliable generation of Network RTK correction using the linear combination of carrier-phase observations and L1/L2 pseudo-range measurements. The residual tropospheric error was estimated in real time to improve the accuracy of double-differenced integer ambiguity resolution between network configuration reference stations that have at least 30 km or longer baseline distance. In addition, C++ based software was developed to enable real-time generation and broadcasting of Compact Network RTK correction information by utilizing an accurately estimated double-differenced integer ambiguity values. As a result, the horizontal and vertical 95% accuracy was 2.5cm and 5.2cm, respectively, without performance degradation due to user's position change within the network.
