  • This study surveyed residents and public officials for the projects to make smart-city plans of Geumsan-gun. First, domestic and foreign cases related to smart city projects were reviewed. The local status of Geumsan-gun was investigated regarding various aspects of the natural, social, urban environment, and smart-city facilities. The survey results were as follows. Overall, more than half of the survey respondents said they were satisfied with their housing quality. Several problems in their areas, such as inefficient welfare system, shortage of parking space, and industrial infrastructure, were reported. On the other hand, tourism and leisure facilities, health care support systems, industries to boost the economy, and the job market were also important issues. The problem was that the regional problems mentioned above were not in line with their preferences for smart-city services. The implications of the survey results could be summed up as follows. The groupware surveys of Geumsan-gun should be used as survey tools, whereas IT survey tools (Google, Survey Monkey, etc.) should be used for locals. In particular, a survey targeting residents should ask plain and compact questions taking advantage of local gatherings. It is also important to have a pilot-survey with relevant public officials and select related projects and regional issues. The survey of local residents and public officials is a prerequisite for promoting smart city projects. The smart city project shall reflect the needs of residents while solving community problems by considering the survey results and local conditions.

This research also compares residents' satisfaction by evaluation factors of walking environment. The resident survey reveals that the composit type of apartment gives the highest satisfaction to residents followed by a courtyard type, and a straight type the last. In particular, residents show high satisfaction to pedestrian-only space in the case of the composit type of apartment building. The most important factor of walking environment on residential satisfaction is the separation of car and pedestrian path of main entrance. • The paper aims to establish planning elements of planned-ecovillages, and analyze the cognizance of residents as well as experts' evaluation so as to examine the awareness of actual residents. The planned-ecovillage allows residents to participate in the organization of the ecovillage to the construction stage. Unlike general ecovillages, planned-ecovillages have a difference as they introduce planning elements by autonomous decision-making through discussions and meetings among residents. The present age is at its turning point. While a fatal impact to human life, including energy shortage and environmental pollution are expected, we may be able to suggest an alternative solution and triggered the initiation, such as a future-oriented ecovillage that enables environmentally-friendly and sustainable living, namely planned-ecovillages.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the factors affecting the community well-being of residents through empirical analysis. Rather than just identifying the variables that promote residents' subjective happiness, we focused on factors affecting residents' living condition. In order to empirically investigate the influencing factors, we constructed the analysis data using the Gyeonggi-do survey. We analyzed it by using linear regression analysis. Through the effects of influencing factor analyzed, we could find implications for public project's priority in budget distribution. It could be suggested that local public projects for residents should be focused on improving programs such as job satisfaction, resident health, and neighborhood relations in order to effectively raise community well-being level.

  • In order to solve social exclusion and segregation phenomenon and to realize social integration, the necessity of social combination and consensus has been presented and existing conception about the public lease apartment confronts a turning point due to the diversification of apartment supply system. With this social background, Eunpyeong New Town Project implemented by Seoul Metropolitan Government is the first example that supplied diverse apartments for social integration. Survey was made upon the residents aged 20 and over and living in combination apartments, lease apartments and common apartments for private ownership in the Enpyeong New Town Apartment Complex in section 1 area, and the survey sheets filled up by the respondents were collected by personal visits or by using specified gathering spots. Summary of study results is as follows: Firstly, regarding the combination method, respondents preferred the irregular combination of lease apartment units and common apartment units in the same apartment building at the top, analyzing by survey groups marked that residents of common apartment with initial ownership responded not to choose combination apartment complex or combination apartment in future. Secondly, the living consciousness with neighbors revealed that respondents were generally satisfied without difference between the residents of lease apartment and common apartment. As the demand and policies for diverse lease apartments are increasing recently, Eunpyeong New Town Project aimed for positive social integration and consensus will be evaluated as model case for social combination apartment in future. And it is necessary to introduce the policies that consider the differences in consciousness and interest of the residents among the lease apartments and common apartments.
