The purpose of this study is to present basic data that can assist on projecting the plans of use of balcony space, by identifying the problems derived from balcony remodelling for the sole purpose of securing practical space, and to further research on the role of balcony space in an apartment. The results of this study revealed a high demand on balcony space, thus the key area of research would be on developing various methods of utilizing such balcony space differing among the different types of available residential space, rather than a standardized extension of balcony space.

Kitchen space is one of the most dangerous places for the elderly. Modification of kitchen space for improving safety and independence for older residents is very important factor for aging -in-place. The purpose of this study wes to identify the current situation and modification of kitchen space by elderly-headed household. The sample included 108 respondents over the age 65 who consisted of elderly-couple or single person household with homeownership in Seoul. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics. Based on the findings of the study, the present incidence and recognition of future need in kitchen modification were identified. Changes in kitchen space made tended to be nonstructural or relatively inexpensive items. In conclusion, this study suggests several ideas for improving current physical problems of kitchen space to support daily living of older residents.

This paper examines the aspects of changes in China's consumer market since the mid-1980s. By comparing urban and rural residents' expenditures, I find that the rural consumer market has exhibited extraordinary growth. Over the past decade, the consumption growth rate and average propensity to consume by rural residents have surpassed those of their urban counterparts, with the former's consumption patterns becoming increasingly similar to the latter's. Such a phenomenon prevails in rural areas which neighbor second-and third-tier cities where urbanization is progressing rapidly. These findings imply that Korean companies need to diversify their export goods in line with China's expanding rural markets while further differentiating their product composition to satisfy the heterogeneous demands in urban areas. With regard to the government, efforts must be made to strengthen the export cooperative system so that it targets not only urban but also rural markets in China.

The purpose of the present research is to provide a plan for an effective evacuation of residents and people who's in need of evacuation (such as children, the handicapped, and the old) and for the situation when staircase is not available for evacuation, by means of analyzing the evacuation behavioral characteristics of the residents or the evacuators and suggesting an evacuation plan using an emergency elevator in order to minimize casualties in case when fire broke out in a skyscraper.

The Purpose of this research was to investigate the physical changes of village, the architectural changes of houses and to find out the resident's needs of housing in suburban rural houses. Samga 3 Ri, Yong-In, KyungKi-Do was chosen for this study. The previous research, conducted in 1987 by using a field survey method, was compared with this study. 1) The study showed that the physical changes of village include an increase in the number of rooms and nonagricultural population, and variety of house types. Therefore, social intimacy, reallocation of houses according to residents' occupations, and apartments for non-agricultural population should be considered in planning village. 2) It is found that the resident's needs were to increase the number of rooms, expansion of space, and to modernize kitchin systems. The investigation on newly constructed houses indicated that residents' needs were two-story houses, changes of spaces - the number of bathrooms, private bedroom adjacent to An-bang.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the present use and the needs for community facilities in apartment housing complex. Eight apartment housing complexes containing more than 500 units which constructed after 2000 were selected for this study. Three hundred and fifty three residents of apartment housing were surveyed to identify their needs and use of community facilities. The main findings of this study are as following; The most frequently used community facilities in apartment housing were outdoor rest area, exercise facilities, and park and playground. Also, the highly required community facilities were outdoor rest area, exercise facilities, and park and playground. Especially, most of the respondents showed the high level of need for the exercise facilities such as swimming pool, fitness center, and sauna.

The purpose of this study is to examine the remodeling behavior on the apartment built in furniture. The data were collected from 363 residents in Seoul area, living in apartments equipped with built-in furnitures. The major findings are as follows; 1)It was found out that 62-75% of those surveyed did not remodel their built-in furniture and 25-39% remodeled it. The major reasons for remodeling are the inconvenience in storing household items, lack of storage space and dissatisfaction of the design and color. 2)More than 80% of the apartment residents surveyed recognizes the necessity of the built-in furnitures, which were equipped already, in living room, kitchen, bathroom and the entrance area. A strong need is also indicated for the additional built-in furnitures in each bedroom, multi-service room and veranda. 3) This survey also indicated that 63-73% shows no intention of remodeling their built-in furnitures. On the other hand, 27-37% of those surveyed indicates their desire and plan to remodel them.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the varying characteristic factors for residential kitchen remodeling according to contemporary life style. The subjects of this investigation are collected through questionnaire from adult residents who live in Seoul, Korea. The collected cases are analyzed by using Spss-win. By using the vaimax method on the basis of factor analysis, the satisfaction of the actual conditions is under the influence of finished materials & function, sanitary installation, layout, cooling & heating apparatus, day lighting, air conditioning, and safety. The preference of kitchen remodeling Is affected by finished materials, function, environmental equipment, and air conditioning. The Need of kitchen facility is caused by working table, refrigerator, gas range, dish apparatus, and addition function.

본 연구는 지식기반 사회가 다가옴에 따라서 대학도서관이 보다 더 폭 넓게 지역사회와의 관계를 가짐으로써 대학도서관의 지역정보센터로서의 역할을 확대하고자 하는데 목적이 있다. 보편화된 공유개념의 지식정보는 모든 사람들이 평등하게 제공받을 수 있는 사회적 장치를 필요로 한다. 관종을 초월하여 대학도서관, 공공도서관, 기업체와의 상호협력을 구상해야 한다. 대학도서관 개방에 관한 규정을 만들어 명문화해야 한다. 따라서 본 연구는 대안의 제시보다는 현실성과 사회적 변화에 따른 개연성을 제안하는 것이다.

The purpose of this study is to provide the guidelines for the planning and design of officetels, meeting the requirements of life in one-person household which is a new type in housing market. Literature survey is used as a research method. We analyzed the needs of officetel residents, by reviewing researches and by examining internet homepages and catalogs of 20 officetels sold since 2000. Case study analysis method is used as a qualitative analysis. The major findings of this study are as follows; 1) In dwelling unit space, it lacks the independence of working space and the privacy of living space. Therefore, the provision of various unit plans, such as 2-bay plan, unit with mezzanine floor or movable walls, layout of kitchen and dining area in window side, is proposed. 2) In communal space, it lacks the consideration of natural environments and the systematic maintenance. Therefore, the introduction of communal workshop and conference rooms and of various types of garden space, is proposed.
