This study deals with apartments, the representative form of residence in Korea, and analyzes the residential plane of 30-pyong apartments that are constructed by the 5 construction companies within in the past three years. It is discovered that these apartments show a certain form and that developing the frame work of interior elements according to the characteristics of family types of 30-pyong apartment residents and the process for such a frame work are needed. Therefore, by analyzing the differences of residential forms according to resident types, this investigation tries to approach the design centering around users. To summarize the steps and contents of this study, first, it draws the understanding and the study field of common residential space, second, it shows the characteristics of family types within residential space, third, it analyzes and verifies the differences of characteristics according to family types within the representative size and form of plane. This investigation is aimed to provide the reasons for developing different planes according to family types despite they may be of the same size, to show the frame of the study method for developing the plane design and the interior element design for users and to suggest the way of designing residence in a conditional approach applying the conditions of users within common residential space.

This study describes development process of residential architectural space in the Richard Meier's residential works through chronological analysis. By analyzing house layout, floor plan, elevation, materials and colors and light entering of his residential works, changes in his architectural space has been studied. Richard Meier's early work is designed as three-dimensional shape, and places emphasis on geometric form. However, recently completed residential works by Richard Meier focuses on the horizontal sun shading louvers, which has ability. In addition, teak and a special UV protective glass are used to control natural environment. Through this research, it was found that Richard Meier has maintained his architectural language in terms of the design layout of the house and planar with colors that appear on the initial project. Using light input methods and materials used for active development, it was found that many design elements were applied and developed.

This study surveys the degree of residents' satisfaction on the current street space to suggest alternatives for the improvement of the street space design in detached house areas. In the results of the survey, we find the following. First, in the result of analysis on age, residential term, having children or not, income level, and type of house ownership, residents are homogeneous in social and economic characteristics. There are similarity in geographical, locational conditions, neighboring facilities, deterioration of residential house, and the time of residential formation among residential areas. Second, satisfactory determinants of residents on street space according to street types, are maintenance, protection of privacy, and parking space. Third, satisfactory determinants of residents on street hierarchy is the inner circulation road while unsatisfactory one is the inner roads. Fourth, age, residential term and type of house ownership are significant factors influencing residents' satisfaction. Factors influencing satisfaction on street space are also affecting total satisfaction and factors associated with street environment are perceived more important ones than factors associated with street activities. Thus we find the degrees of satisfaction for residents on street type and street hierarchy are different despite that general characteristics of residents are similar. We also find residents consider street noise and maintenance as critical factor among physical factors of street space.

The planning of the central green space (residential park) in a residential quarter is an effective way of increasing public space in the process of urban development and urban renewal. It is regarded as an important technical project in the detail plan of a residential quarter in order to create a better environment in the residential quarters. The scale of a residential park, normally not less than 5000㎡, is defined according to the land-use conditions and the local population. The site should have easy access for the residents, and fit into the surrounding landscape and Fengshui whenever possible. It should also satisfy various leisure needs of the local residents at all ages. The design of the park should be friendly to the residents'interests, hobbies and aspirations. The artistic style of the landscape is to emphasize on delightfulness, harmony and warmness.

The present study approached the characteristics of various space compositions in contemporary residential architecture through the concept of ex-formality, and found that ex-formal spaces are composed through the variation of floor, wall, ceiling or roof and derived four types of ex-formal space composition - ex-cubic space composition using folding, plastic space composition using the plasticity of concrete, atypical space composition using geometric manipulation, and non linear space composition using digital technology. Based on this, additionally, we derived elements expressing the characteristics of ex-formal space composition, which are obliqueness, inclination, flexibility in ex-cubic space composition using folding, plasticity and fluidity in plastic space composition using the plasticity of concrete, ex-construction, dynamism and asymmetry in atypical space composition using geometric manipulation, and flexibility, fluidity, self similarity and plasticity in non linear space composition using digital technology. On the other hand, this study purposed to help understand various space expression patterns of contemporary residential architecture by analyzing how these types of ex-formal space composition and polysemous expression characteristics have been represented in contemporary residential architecture since the 1990s.

The purpose of this study is to develop the user-oriented housing interior space sensibility evaluation tools: The user-oriented housing interior space sensibility evaluation tools shall be developed through the systematic selection process of the extracted housing interior space images, which were linked with the adjectives of sensibility evaluation selected for the housing interior space preferred by the user from the specific words of the sensibility extracted to identify the characteristics of the user's sensibility which is recently being changed. In the results of analyzing the words of sensibility for the residential space preferred by the users with 48 pairs of adjectives. The user-oriented sensibility assessment tool was built by extracting 8 sensibility factors of 'cozy', 'practical' 'cheerful', 'traditional', 'unique', 'congenial', 'sensuous', and 'gorgeous' in the exploratory factor analysis. The image scale was constructed in two-dimensions of the sense of space and the type of space for the residential interior space images. The dimension of the 'sense of space' is explained by the axis of open-closed and the dimension of 'type of space, is explained by the axis of 'natural-artificial'. Such a structural model of the residential interior design attributes were divided into 8 groups. And the 42 images representing each group were selected and the user-oriented residential interior space image tool was built by adding user's selective elements.

The form of the furniture developed variously according to the flow of the time. The Soban used in the modern living space is used as a decoration. but the furniture has to be used according to the form of the modern life and residential space. The furniture is the medium interacting with the surrounding environment in the residential space. I reconstruct the splendid fanciness of the pattern of the Haejuban and nature of structure and apply to the table design. The table gave the change of the form in order to be suitable for the residential space. and it raised the efficiency of the convenient of the custody and space utilization.

The purpose of this study is to actualize the unit planning space. First, to understand various needs about residential space of apartments inhabitants. It is necessary for us to understand exactly what differences of residential needs and how different they are with todays's viewpoint because different residential life should be developed according to family structure, age and personality. Second, to suggest plan type as many as possible to reflect and accept various residential needs of inhabitants. The main bed room is normal used for the space of husband and wife, it is necessary to consider the room to be free from the main living room, to introduce variety in the area division or location of rooms an to mark kitchen and dining room as family room or pieasure room besides as a working space

The purpose of this study was to examine the importance of eco-friendly design elements related to residential space by residents and what element they prefer. To achieve this, 18 eco-friendly design elements related to residential space were selected from the Green Building Certification Criteria and the relevant research papers. These elements were categorized into four areas; the ecological environment area (4 elements), the indoor environmental climate one (4 elements), the energy and resource saving one (6 ones), and the material one(4 ones). On the base of these 18 elements, the importance degree of each element was examined by using 5-point Likert scale. The subjects were 299 housewives living in apartment houses in Jangyu new town, Gimhae. The subjects perceived strongly the importance of eco-friendly design elements, but many of them did not know about Green Building Certification Criteria. Overall importance of 18 elements by the residents was very high. Also, the indoor environmental climate area was considered as the most important one, followed by the energy and resource saving area, the material area, and the ecological environment one.

Artificial environments and spaces developed in 20th century provided conveniences and comforts and developed spatial thoughts of interior design. But it caused significant environmental estrangement due to environmental disruption and materialism. This caused raising necessity of emotional design in human life spatial design as liberation of human nature is discussed and interest in emotion among human natures is being enhanced. This study manages how emotional design is expressed in basic area of human, residential area. Emotional design is proceeding to the direction designing interface between human and environment considering human physical and psychological characteristics focused on correlation between human and interior space. Therefore through this study, meanings and effects of design considering user emotions are reviewed to materialize expressing factors for combining into actual design.
