  • The people with disabilities living in residential facilities have more difficulty in caring oral hygiene than those living at home. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the recent 2014 dental treatment records of free mobile dental clinic service for disabled people in Korea. 203 disabled living in residential facilities participated in mobile dental clinic. Patients classified according to types of disability. Mental retardation were 75.3%, mental disorder were 6.0%, crippled disorder were 7.4%, brain disorder were 6.5%, visual disorder were1.4%, auditory and speech disorder were 2.3% and autism disorder were 0.9%. Performed treatments were 99 scaling and curettage, 88 fluoride varnish and TBI, 4 extraction, 1 endodontic treatment, 16 caries control (resin filling, GI filling), 1 denture repair and 8 refuse the treatment. Free mobile dental clinic can not provide complex dental treatment. So, the organization should systemize advanced dental treatment and regular preventive programs. Furthermore, we need to have a more concerns about the people with disabilities living in residential facilities and constantly participate on a dental voluntary work.

A Study on the Determinants of Residential Satisfaction of Lease Apartment - Focusing on Lease Apartment and the Apartment converted into Installment Sale - (임대아파트 입주가구의 주거만족도 결정요인에 관한 연구 - 임대아파트와 분양전환아파트를 중심으로 -)

  • This paper has examined a resident's feeling of satisfaction on residential environment. It has searched a policy direction to improve the quality of residential environment with three models in which what factors have an influence on the resident's feeling of satisfaction is evaluated. First, when the residents were asked why they chose lease APT, Low price was answered the most between two populations. Second, with regard to the feeling of satisfaction by categories, both populations showed similar results. The social prejudice on lease APT such as disadvantage on their children and unfavorable surroundings that has been engraved in people's mind about lease APT for a long time was never an issue any more. Third, when the two populations were examined by regression analysis with three models in terms of what factors had an effect on the feeling of satisfaction, there was no big difference in each effect of variables. Internal environment was a key variable for lease APT while external environment was a core variable for the APT that is converted into installment sale. In order to enhance the feeling of satisfaction on residential environment for lease APT residents, high quality turned out the most important factor between both populations, and then a loan with low interest rate and high average standard of APT followed. As unsatisfactory items, low cultural level, slowness in repairing works, and unsatisfactory finishing work were pointed out with regard to the low quality of internal facilities. In general, it turned out that the APT that was converted into installment sale was more preferable than lease APT. As known in this analysis, housing supply policy needs to be focused on quality and high average standard of APT should be achieved for the working classes.

  • Recently, various universities in Korea have started to work on strengthening their liberal arts and character education through the residential college (RC) system, carrying out various community programs for this purpose. However, because most programs are based on student-to-student relationships, problems can often arise within the community living environments. This paper proposes the roommate assignment algorithm in the context of a residential college, as to effectively achieve character education goals. The clustering algorithm we propose is based on the similarity hypothesis. As a result of the assignment, the degree of similarity (euclidean distance) between roommates was significantly higher than that assigned randomly. The algorithm developed in this study was applied to the data of the students living in the international campus of H University.

  • It is undeniable that urban greenspace is the soul of a city. Conventional urban greenspace such as parks, community gardens, playgrounds etc. located within a city reduce the negative effects of pollution, play a major role in the survival of the urban ecosystem, and promote healthy lifestyles. Today, 55% of the world's population lives in urban areas, which is expected to increase to 68% by 2050. Projections show that urbanization and the gradual migration to urban areas combined with the fast growth of the world's population, could add another 2.5 billion people to urban areas by 2050 and almost 90% of this increase will take place in Asia(UN, 2018). As a result, many plots in the cities are and will continue to be occupied with buildings to provide residential support to the increased population. This will dangerously decrease urban greenspaces. Moreover, worldwide, food crisis, energy crisis, and social crisis is posing a great threat to the existence of mankind. Additionally, the COVID - 19 has introduced a new lifestyle where from work culture to community configuration has drastically transformed. In this scenario, residential buildings will have to serve more than just providing privacy and shelter. As urban greenspaces are being occupied by concrete residential buildings, these buildings will have to compensate for the percentage of urban green they are destroying and the issues they are imposing in the process. The goal of this thesis is to design, architecturally define and, categorize comprehensive 'sustainable Greenspace'(S.G.S) for the multi-family housing scenario. These will be different than the conventional green (veranda, rooftop green) we commonly see in residential buildings. An old, dilapidated apartment building will be the target of remodeling to fulfill the purpose of this thesis.

  • This study was undertaken to evaluate the living condition and the reality of visiting part-time workers through the survey. On the matter of living condition, the most difficult problem is financial problem followed by residential problem. On the matter of female's household labor, there was a considerable difference according to the houseband's age and academic background, and family monthly income. On the question of family relationship, it was found that there was rare communication between children and father because father was rigid to talk with. In the case of mother and children, they could not find time to talk with each other. In the group of the old aged, they work to make their living. On the other hand, in the group of younger generations and the higher educated, they replied that they should work whatever the work is. It was found that they were subjected to their work because of their financial situation and that they were under the double yoke of family and work because there were no legal protection and organizational devices.

  • In recent years, the government's urban housing expansion policy has resulted in increased construction and remodeling work of residential houses and apartments, causing more industrial accidents at elevator installation sites. Typically, accidents occur during the installation and dismantling of work scaffolds inside the hoistways or using non-standardized work scaffolds due to their structural instability. In view of this, the present study deals with the development of a standardized elevator system scaffolding that can be safely installed outside the hoistway, securing the work platform inside the hoistway. An improved version of the scaffolding system eliminates the need to enter the hoistway for the scaffolding installation, thereby preventing accidents.

  • This study aims to explore the issues of residential care services for children and youth with disabilities using mixed methods research. In Korea, welfare policies for people with disabilities tend to focus on adults with disabilities. As a result, children and youth with disabilities often receive less attention in welfare policies, which is especially true of children and youth with disabilities at residential facilities, who have confronted more serious situations than children and youth with disabilities living together with their families. Thus, the goal of this study explores the issues of residential care services for children and youth with disabilities, and suggests alternatives grounded in the research results. This study used a mixed methodology; in particular the embedded design that is designed by Creswell and Clark(2007). In qualitative research, representative professionals who work at residential facilities were selected using the recommendations of professional groups, and were interviewed using focus group interview methods. In quantitative research, this study investigated the thoughts of professionals on the issues of residential care services for children and youth with disabilities, using questions that were developed through qualitative research results. This study is significant in that it explored the issues of residential care services for children and youth with disabilities, focusing on field experiences, for the first time in Korea, and suggested political alternatives for the future.

The Determinants of Change in Residential Size of Households in the Seoul Metropolitan Area: According to the Patterns of Residential Mobility (수도권 거주가구의 주거면적 변화 결정요인: 수도권 내 주거이동 방향에 따라서)

  • This study examined the determinants of change in residential size according to the patterns of residential mobility in the Seoul Metropolitan Area. Particularly, this study examined the upward and downward in residential size, which is emerging as an important factor in the era of increasing non-face-to-face environment. For the empirical analysis, I used 「2018 Korea Housing Survey」 and employed binary logistic regression model. The empirical analysis shows the change of residential size is statistically significant depending on the direction of geographic. In addition, there are differences in the determinants of change in residential size. When people move within Seoul, housing factors, accessibility, age of residents, and the number of household members can be the determinants. When people move from Seoul to Gyeonggi or Incheon, housing factors, safety, gender, and the number of household members work as determinants. On the other hand, when moving from Gyeonggi or Incheon to Seoul, whether it is studio or not, housing type, accessibility, the number of household members, and the disability of homeownership are the determinants. When moving within Gyeonggi or Incheon, housing factors, Accessibility to green areas, safety, age of resident, income, and the number of household members, are the determinants.

  • Wind loads on low-rise buildings in general and residential homes in particular can differ significantly depending upon the laboratory in which they were measured. The differences are due in large part to inadequate simulations of the low-frequency content of atmospheric velocity fluctuations in the laboratory and to the small scale of the models used for the measurements. The imperfect spatial coherence of the low frequency velocity fluctuations results in reductions of the overall wind effects with respect to the case of perfectly coherent flows. For large buildings those reductions are significant. However, for buildings with sufficiently small dimensions (e.g., residential homes) the reductions are relatively small. A technique is proposed for simulating the effect of low-frequency flow fluctuations on such buildings more effectively from the point of view of testing accuracy and repeatability than is currently the case. Experimental results are presented that validate the proposed technique. The technique eliminates a major cause of discrepancies among measurements conducted in different laboratories. In addition, the technique allows the use of considerably larger model scales than are possible in conventional testing. This makes it possible to model architectural details, and improves Reynolds number similarity. The technique is applicable to wind tunnels and large scale open jet facilities, and can help to standardize flow simulations for testing residential homes as well as significantly improving testing accuracy and repeatability. The work reported in this paper is a first step in developing the proposed technique. Additional tests are planned to further refine the technique and test the range of its applicability.

  • Purpose of this study is to know what is the factors affecting in working poor household's residential ascend mobility. As a result, Working poor household residential ascend mobility is affecting from age, education, work ability, household type, child, asset, public assistance, region, house position, minimum housing facilities, housing environment, education facilities, lastingness rental apartment, nation rental apartment, the lease of a house on a deposit basis, monthly rent, loaning delay times, debt. Main implication is as following Analysis. First, When housing policies establish, Working poor household's characteristics and individual characteristics should be considered enough by welfare policies aspect. For this, Rent assistance system have to be enforced for working poor household's house loan. Second, Working poor household's guarantee of financial Accessibility for house loan. Finally, Working poor household's residential problem may be solved though efforts that can heighten enough public information and the utilization rate about various in government's house policies.
