  • The two different numerical approaches for solving the nonlinear ship wave problem are discussed in the present paper. One is based on a panel method, which neglects the viscous effects. The other is based on a finite volume method, which take into account the viscous effects by solving RANS equations. Focus is laid upon on the advantages and disadvantages of two methods. The developed methods are applied to calculating the flow around Series 60 hull to validate the performance of the present nonlinear methods. Although the two methods employ quite different numerical approaches, the calculated wave patterns from both methods show good agreements with the experiments. However the potential method simu-lates the global wave pattern accurately, while the viscous method shows better performance for the local wave prediction near a ship.

  • The perception of the importance of statistical methods for processing medical data in Korea's medical research and the practical use of the analysis method are insufficient. From this standpoint, in order to examine the features of the data analysis method used in the medical journals of Korea and America, we have examined the research papers which has been published in the exemplary medical journals of both countries. It showed that there was a large difference in the quantity and quality between Korea and America. Especially in the medical research of Korea, we could notice that the use of statistical methods were comparatively low. Hence the researchers in the medical area are encouraged to use more statistical methods in processing medical data.

  • Impregnating with quality silicone water repellent on the concrete surface is an effective method of protecting concrete. Quality silicone water repellent has been widely used in the engineering profession because of its desirable properties such as hydrophobicity, keeping concrete breathable and preserving the original appearance of the concrete. The companies in China that produce silicone water repellent are listed. Test methods in the specifications or standards about silicone water repellent in China are summed. The test methods relative to durability of concrete impregnated with silicone water repellent (such as resistant to chloride ion penetration, resistant to alkali, resistance to freezing and thawing and weatherability etc.) and the constructive quality (such as water absorption rate, impregnating depth and the dry velocity coefficient etc.) are compared and analyzed. The results indicate that there are differences among test methods relative to different specifications with the same index and therefore, confusion has ensued when selecting test methods. All test methods with the exception of the method of water absorption rate by using a Karsten flask are not non-destructive methods or conducted in a laboratory. Finally, further research on silicone water repellent during application is proposed.

  • In this study, two epididymal spermatozoa recovery methods in relation to sperm number, motility, viability and acrosome reaction were examined. Seven bulls were castrated and 7 testicles with epididymides were transferred to the laboratoy. Epididymis in each bull was randomly used for flushing and mincing methods with semen extender (Optixcell, IMV, France). The recovered spermatozoa with adjusted sperm concentration to $40{\times}10^6cells/mL$ was diluted with optixcell and cryopreserved. In experiment 1, the difference in the total number of spermatozoa using flushing and mincing methods was insignificant (2570.0 and $2505.2{\times}10^6cells/mL$, respectively). For experiment 2, the percentage of motile spermatozoa and motility parameters between flushing and mincing methods were studied through the use of sperm class analyzer after frozen-thawing. The percentage of total motile sperm between flushing and mincing methods was almost the same with $89.5{\pm}12.8$ and $91.4{\pm}7.9%$, respectively. The same is the case with experiment 3 wherein the viability and acrosomal integrity of frozen-thawed epididymal spermatozoa by flushing and mincing was insignificantly different. The results from the study showed that both flushing and mincing methods can be used for epididymal spermatozoa recovery in bull.

  • This review aimed to examine and analyze trends of clinical research using case studies on facial spasms in Korean medicine. Seven web databases were searched for case studies on facial spasms using Korean and English search terms. Case studies were selected using the exclusion and inclusion criteria. Overall, 13 case studies were selected, analyzed, and classified according to the publication year and journal, study participants, cause, treatment methods, pattern identification, evaluation methods, improvement, and side effects. Case studies reporting on various treatment methods in Korean medicine, including acupuncture and pharmacopuncture for facial spasms, have been published since 2000. In addition, studies on new treatment methods in Korean medicine for facial spasm have been published. Combination therapy is the most common method used in Korean medicine-based case studies; therefore, future studies on single treatment are necessary. Most of the case studies on Korean medicine reported improved symptoms and patient satisfaction with the Korean medicine treatment method. No side effects were reported, except for facial swelling and bruising, indicating that Korean medicine treatment methods for facial spasm were safe and effective. Therefore, the Korean medicine treatment methods for facial spasm can be actively used in clinical practice and future research.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of different preparation methods on the recovery and quantification of ginsenosides in raw Korean ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer). Eight major ginsenosides ($Rb_1$, $Rb_2$, $Rb_3$, Rc, Rd, Re, Rf, and $Rg_1$) were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), after which the recovery and repeatability of the extraction of those ginsenosides using 3 different preparation methods were compared [A. direct extraction (DE) method, hot MeOH extraction/evaporation/direct dissolution; B. solid phase extraction (SPE) method, hot MeOH extraction/evaporation/dissolution/$C_{18}$ cartridge adsorption/MeOH elution; C. liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) method, hot MeOH extraction/evaporation/dissolution/n-BuOH fractionation]. Use of the DE method resulted in a significantly higher recovery of total ginsenosides than other methods and a relatively clear peak resolution. Use of the SPE and LLE methods resulted in clearer peak resolution, but lower ginsenoside recovery than the DE method. The LLE method showed the lowest ginsenoside recovery and repeatability among the 3 methods. Given that the DE method employed only extraction, evaporation, and a dissolution step (avoiding complicate and time consuming purification), this technique may be an effective method for the preparation and quantification of ginsenosides from raw Korean ginseng.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to analyze Methods of Acupuncture Therapies(鍼法) that are currently practiced in Korean medicine(韓醫學) and to consider the directions in further research and development. Methods : Methods of Acupuncture Therapies(鍼法) were selected based on Acupuncture Medicine textbook of College of Korean Medicine and published researches. Then, selected Methods of Acupuncture Therapies(鍼法) were categorized by characteristics. Also, the selected Methods of Acupuncture Therapies(鍼法) were comprehensively classified according to new models, Heaven-Earth-Human(天地人) model and Dimensional model. The directions of further research and development in Methods of Acupuncture Therapies(鍼法) were considered based on this. Results & Conclusions : In the categorization by characteristics, sufficient basic references were unavailable to consider the directions in further research and development. However, comprehensive classification using Heaven-Earth-Human(天地人) model and Dimensional model was able to be used as references for estimating the relative positions of each Method of Acupuncture Therapies(鍼法) and also, establishing the directions in further research and development. Regarding the results from comprehensive classification, the studies on Physiology of Four Seasons and Day and night(晝夜) are required. Besides, the acceptance of Western medical contents which include anatomical structures is unavoidable to achieve the development in Methods of Acupuncture Therapies(鍼法). In addition, it is necessary to propose researches founded on an integrated theory of Viscera and Bowels(藏府) and Meridian and Collateral(經絡) which enables to embrace the physiological function of human body. Upon this, the creation of a Four-dimensional Methods of Acupuncture Therapy(鍼法) is also required.
