This study describes an approach for comparative bibliometric analysis of scientific publications related to (i) individual or several departments comprising a university, and (ii) broader integrated subject areas using multiple disciplinary schemes. It uses a custom dataset of scientific publications (ca. 15,000 articles and reviews, published during 2009-2013, and recorded in the Web of Science Core Collections) with author affiliations to the research departments, dedicated to science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM), of a comprehensive university. The dataset was subjected, at first, to the department level and discipline level analyses using the newly available KAKEN-L3 classification (based on MEXT/JSPS Grants-in-Aid system), hierarchical clustering, correspondence analysis to decipher the major departmental and disciplinary clusters, and visualization of the department-discipline relationships using two-dimensional stacked bar diagrams. The next step involved the creation of subsets covering integrated subject areas and a comparative analysis of departmental contributions to a specific area (medical, health and life science) using several disciplinary schemes: Essential Science Indicators (ESI) 22 research fields, SCOPUS 27 subject areas, OECD Frascati 38 subordinate research fields, and KAKEN-L3 66 subject categories. To illustrate the effective use of the science mapping techniques, the same subset for medical, health and life science area was subjected to network analyses for co-occurrences of keywords, bibliographic coupling of the publication sources, and co-citation of sources in the reference lists. The science mapping approach demonstrates the ways to extract information on the prolific research themes, the most frequently used journals for publishing research findings, and the knowledge base underlying the research activities covered by the publications concerned.

Due to the expansion of high-speed Internet access, the need for secure and reliable networks has become more critical. The sophistication of network attacks, as well as their severity, has also increased recently. As such, more and more organizations are becoming vulnerable to attack. The aim of this research is to classify network attacks using neural networks (NN), which leads to a higher detection rate and a lower false alarm rate in a shorter time. This paper focuses on two classification types: a single class (normal, or attack), and a multi class (normal, DoS, PRB, R2L, U2R), where the category of attack is also detected by the NN. Extensive analysis is conducted in order to assess the translation of symbolic data, partitioning of the training data and the complexity of the architecture. This paper investigates two engines; the first engine is the back-propagation neural network intrusion detection system (BPNNIDS) and the second engine is the radial basis function neural network intrusion detection system (BPNNIDS). The two engines proposed in this paper are tested against traditional and other machine learning algorithms using a common dataset: the DARPA 98 KDD99 benchmark dataset from International Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining Tools. BPNNIDS shows a superior response compared to the other techniques reported in literature especially in terms of response time, detection rate and false positive rate.
Microarray technology makes it possible to measure the expressions of tens of thousands of genes simultaneously under various experimental conditions. Identifying differentially expressed genes in each single experimental condition is one of the most common first steps in microarray gene expression data analysis. Reasonable choices of thresholds for determining differentially expressed genes are used for the next-stap-analysis with suitable statistical significances. We present a supervised model for identifying DEGs using pathway information based on the global connectivity structure. Pathway information can be regarded as a collection of biological knowledge, thus we are trying to determine the optimal threshold so that the consequential connectivity structure can be the most compatible with the existing pathway information. The significant feature of our model is that it uses established knowledge as a reference to determine the direction of analyzing microarray dataset. In the most of previous work, only intrinsic information in the miroarray is used for the identifying DEGs. We hope that our proposed method could contribute to construct biologically meaningful structure from microarray datasets.

Microarray expression datasets are incessantly cumulated with the aid of recent technological advances. The k-means algorithm is widely used in academia and industry due to easy and simple implementation, enabling fast learning for complex datasets. However, k-means struggles to classify datasets without prior knowledge of specific domains. We proposed the repulsive k-means (RK-means) algorithm in a previous study to improve the k-means algorithm, using the repulsive force concept, which allows deleting unnecessary cluster centroids. Accordingly, the RK-means enables to classifying of a dataset without domain knowledge. However, three main problems remain. The RK-means algorithm includes a cluster repulsive force offset, for clusters confined in other clusters, which can cause cluster locking; we were unable to prove RK-means provided optimal convergence in the previous study; and RK-means shown better performance only normalize term and weight. Therefore, this paper proposes the advanced RK-means (ARK-means) algorithm to resolve the RK-means problems. We establish an initialization strategy for deploying cluster centroids and define a metric for the ARK-means algorithm. Finally, we redefine the mass and normalize terms to close to the general dataset. We show ARK-means feasibility experimentally using blob and iris datasets. Experiment results verify the proposed ARK-means algorithm provides better performance than k-means, k'-means, and RK-means.

This paper aims to develop an IDS (Intrusion Detection System) that takes into account class imbalanced datasets. For this, we first built a set of training data sets from the Kyoto 2006+ dataset in which the amounts of normal data and abnormal (intrusion) data are not balanced. Then, we have run a number of tests to evaluate the effectiveness of machine learning techniques for detecting intrusions. Our evaluation results demonstrated that the Random Forest algorithm achieved the best performances.

Unsupervised neural networks have not caught enough attention until Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) was proposed. By using both the generator and discriminator networks, GAN can extract the main characteristic of the original dataset and produce new data with similarlatent statistics. However, researchers understand fully that training GAN is not easy because of its unstable condition. The discriminator usually performs too good when helping the generator to learn statistics of the training datasets. Thus, the generated data is not compelling. Various research have focused on how to improve the stability and classification accuracy of GAN. However, few studies delve into how to improve the training efficiency and to save training time. In this paper, we propose a novel optimizer, named FAST-ADAM, which integrates the Lookahead to ADAM optimizer to train the generator of a semi-supervised generative adversarial network (SSGAN). We experiment to assess the feasibility and performance of our optimizer using Canadian Institute For Advanced Research - 10 (CIFAR-10) benchmark dataset. From the experiment results, we show that FAST-ADAM can help the generator to reach convergence faster than the original ADAM while maintaining comparable training accuracy results.
We design an ingenious view-pooling method named learning-based multiple pooling fusion (LMPF), and apply it to multi-view convolutional neural network (MVCNN) for 3D model classification or retrieval. By this means, multi-view feature maps projected from a 3D model can be compiled as a simple and effective feature descriptor. The LMPF method fuses the max pooling method and the mean pooling method by learning a set of optimal weights. Compared with the hand-crafted approaches such as max pooling and mean pooling, the LMPF method can decrease the information loss effectively because of its "learning" ability. Experiments on ModelNet40 dataset and McGill dataset are presented and the results verify that LMPF can outperform those previous methods to a great extent.

Social networking platforms have become a smart way for people to interact and meet on internet. It provides a way to keep in touch with friends, families, colleagues, business partners, and many more. Among the various social networking sites, Twitter is one of the fastest-growing sites where users can read the news, share ideas, discuss issues etc. Due to its vast popularity, the accounts of legitimate users are vulnerable to the large number of threats. Spam and Malware are some of the most affecting threats found on Twitter. Therefore, in order to enjoy seamless services it is required to secure Twitter against malicious users by fixing them in advance. Various researches have used many Machine Learning (ML) based approaches to detect spammers on Twitter. This research aims to devise a secure system based on Hybrid Similarity Cosine and Soft Cosine measured in combination with Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) to secure Twitter network against spammers. The similarity among tweets is determined using Cosine with Soft Cosine which has been applied on the Twitter dataset. GA has been utilized to enhance training with minimum training error by selecting the best suitable features according to the designed fitness function. The tweets have been classified as spammer and non-spammer based on ANN structure along with the voting rule. The True Positive Rate (TPR), False Positive Rate (FPR) and Classification Accuracy are considered as the evaluation parameter to evaluate the performance of system designed in this research. The simulation results reveals that our proposed model outperform the existing state-of-arts.

Medical care practices include gathering a wide range of student data that are with manic episodes and depression which would assist the specialist with diagnosing a health condition of the students correctly. In this way, the instructors of the specific students will also identify those students and take care of them well. The data which we collected from the students could be straightforward indications seen by them. The artificial intelligence has been utilized with Naive Baye's classification, Random forest classification algorithm, SVM algorithm to characterize the datasets which we gathered to check whether the student is influenced by Bipolar illness or not. Performance analysis of the disease data for the algorithms used is calculated and compared. Also, a sequential deep learning model is builded using Keras. The consequences of the simulations show the efficacy of the grouping techniques on a dataset, just as the nature and complexity of the dataset utilized.
