  • Purpose: Research ethics has social implications beyond the issues of personal morality and research integrity. In recent years, research ethics has become a more controversial topic in society. In this study, the concept of the university research ethics curriculum is defined, the current status of the research ethics curriculum is analyzed, and the direction of the university research ethics curriculum development direction is discussed. Research design, data and methodology: The concept of university research ethics education and the current status of research ethics education were examined, and the development direction of the university research ethics curriculum was explored based on the framework . Results: field education to secure university research ethics is still insufficient. In other words, only 12 universities for undergraduate programs and 37 universities for graduate programs included research ethics in their regular curriculum. Conclusions: The occurrence of research misconduct is mainly caused by not recognizing the error or not taking it seriously. In particular, university research misconduct results from a lack of understanding of research ethics, poor research education, a performance-oriented academic climate, and the absence of an institutional system for establishing research ethics.

  • This study was conducted for the purpose of developing a basic-level TRIZ curriculum to improve students' creativity and problemsolving abilities. Towards this end, literature review, field application study, and a survey on the demand for such curriculum were conducted, as the research methodologies. Specifically, literature review was performed on the TRIZ-related research trends and education trends, and the researchers, who had experience running a TRIZ education program for a few years, ran a basic-level TRIZ for 40 hours as part of the extra-curriculum of A University. An actual survey was also conducted to determine the demand for the development of a basic-level TRIZ curriculum. Of the total of 40 students who were subjected to the curriculum, 31 responded sincerely 1 to the survey. Based on the survey analysis results on the students' recognition of the TRIZ curriculum and of the TRIZ task performance, and on the contents and educational effects of TRIZ, basic guidelines for the development of a basic-level TRIZ curriculum were formulated. Reflecting the results of the survey on the demand for a basic-level TRIZ curriculum, such a curriculum was proposed based on 16-week-long, 3-credit lectures considering the curricula of other subjects in the university.

  • An outcome-based curriculum is perceived to be one alternative educational approach in medical education. Nonetheless, it is difficult for curriculum developers to convert from traditional curriculum to an outcome-based curriculum because research documenting its development process is rare. Therefore, this study aims to introduce the development process and method of outcome-based curriculum. For the purpose of this study, we used diverse data analyses, such as an existing literature search, development model analysis, and case analysis. We identified five phases from the analysis. First, the curriculum developers analyze the physician's job or a high performer in a medical situation. Second, curriculum developers extract outcomes and competencies through developing a curriculum, affinity diagraming, and critical incident interviews. Third, curriculum developers determine the proficiency levels of each outcome and competency evaluation methods. Fourth, curriculum developers conduct curriculum mapping with outcomes and competencies. Fifth, curriculum developers develop an educational system. Also, it is important to develop an assessment system for the curriculum implementation in the process of developing the outcome-based curriculum. An outcome-based curriculum influences all the people concerned with education in a medical school including the professors, students, and administrative staff members. Therefore, curriculum developers should consider not only performance assessment tools for the students but also assessment indicators for checking curriculum implementation and managing curriculum quality.

  • This paper presents an analysis of the Developmental Approaches in Science, Health and Technology (DASH) program, a K-6 curriculum developed by the Curriculum Research & Development Group (CRDG) at the University of Hawaii employing the curriculum analysis framework created by Posner. Using this framework the analyst found that the DASH design is based on the research on learning, teaching, and assessment now driving efforts to reform science education at the elementary level. DASH embraces the constructivist idea that learning is a personal and social process and the recapitulation model that new concepts are built out of theories previously learned. DASH provides an understandable, exciting, and memorable experience in the operations of science, health, and technology, and develops their capacity to use the skills and knowledge of science, health, and technology both in and outside school. A number of studies of DASH have examined its functionality, effectiveness of pedagogy and what students learn. The innovative nature of DASH necessitated a multidimensional assessment that included both quantitative and qualitative research techniques. Ongoing development of the DASH program in the research setting of a university laboratory school permits ever deeper connections with emerging curriculum theory and curriculum practice, and allows new linkages as ideas are tested in research classrooms.

The curriculum development agency also decided to base the reform on sound pedagogical foundations. That was assisted with academic research where the views of various stakeholders were investigated in detail. Surveys were conducted with students, parents, teachers, employers, university professors, and curriculum designers and they give a full picture of mathematics teaching and learning in Hong Kong. The rich data collected should shed light on the development of mathematics curriculum in other regions with similar socio-cultural and educational settings.

  • This study developed an integrative curriculum design plan for Home Economics through a deliberation method. This study established a research framework to integrate the deliberation models of Schwab, Walker, and Reid that inherited the intellectual tradition of curriculum deliberation along with the practical reasoning process of Brown and Paolucci from a critical science perspective. The practical research problem was formulated as "What should be done to develop a Home Economics integrative curriculum?" To address this practical research problem, deliberation with deliberators of each small, medium, and large groups was processed for the development of integrative curriculum design plans. An initial proposal was developed from small group deliberation processes. An initial proposal was examined and an alternative plan was developed from medium group deliberation processes. An alternative plan and its consequence were re-examined from large group deliberation processes. The authors finalized a proposal organized on four valued ends of self-formation, intersubjectivity, social action, and life skills. A practical problem focused integrative curriculum was developed and proposed to pursue the four valued ends. The suggested final practical problem focused curriculum demonstrates the power of Home Economics to contribute to the advancement of individuals, families, and society as well as the practical empowerment of students.
