  • Safety classification of systems, structures, and components (SSC) is an essential activity for nuclear reactor design and operation. The current regulatory trend is to require risk-informed safety classification that considers first, the severity, but also the frequency of SSC failures. While safety classification for nuclear power plants is covered in many regulatory and scientific publications, research reactors received less attention. Research reactors are typically of lower power but, at the same time, are less standardized i.e., have more variability in the design, operational modes, and operating conditions. This makes them more challenging when considering safety classification. This work presents the Integrated Risk-Informed Safety Classification (IRISC) procedure which is a novel extension of the IAEA recommended process with dedicated probabilistic treatment of research reactor designs. The article provides the details of probabilistic analysis performed within safety classification process to a degree that is often missing in most literature on the topic. The article presents insight from the implementation of the procedure in the safety classification for the MARIA Research Reactor operated by the National Center for Nuclear Research in Poland.

  • There are the national science and technology standard classification system used in Korea, the classification according to the standard classification system for educational organization units, and the Korean standard education classification by the National Statistical Office. It is not suitable for calculation or evaluation, and classification is still mixed depending on the purpose of use. Therefore, in this study, the current status of academic standard classification, issues related to the standard classification system such as research foundation associations and research institutes, and issues related to the academic standard classification through the analysis of existing prior research issues, etc. As a result of the research, first, it is necessary to maintain and strengthen the linkage of the academic classification system, such as maintaining the linkage between the relevant departmental classification systems and strengthening the linkage with the relevant classification system, as a result of analysis of major issues in the academic standard classification system, and the systematic improvement cycle of the revision process and management system and settings are required.

  • In order to utilize remote sensed images effectively, a lot of image classification methods are suggested for many years. But, the accuracy of traditional methods based on pixel-based classification is not high in general. In this study, object oriented classification based on image segmentation is used to classify Landsat images. A necessary prerequisite for object oriented image classification is successful image segmentation. Object oriented image classification, which is based on fuzzy logic, allows the integration of a broad spectrum of different object features, such as spectral values , shape and texture. Landsat images are divided into urban, agriculture, forest, grassland, wetland, barren and water in sochon-gun, Chungcheongnam-do using object oriented classification algorithms in this paper. Preliminary results will help to perform an automatic image classification in the future.

  • The current study aims to analyze the acceptance of International Standard Terminology (IST) related to herbs and formulas used in Korea. It also intends to examine limitations of each term source by linking texts for herbal medicine research and formula research used in schools of oriental medicine with medicinal substance-formula classification names within the IST framework. This study examined 64 medicinal classification names of IST, including synonyms, 41 formula classification names, 65 classification names of "Herbal Medicine Study," 89 medicinal classification names of "Shin's Clinical Herbal Medicine Study," and lastly 83 formula classification names of "Formula Study." Data on their chief virtue, efficacy and characteristics as medicinal substances were extracted from their definitions, and such data were used to perform Chinese character-English mapping using the IST. The outcomes of the mapping were then analyzed in terms of both lexical matching and semantic matching. In terms of classification names for medicinal substances, "Herbal Medicine Study" had 60.0% lexical matching, whereas "Shin's Clinical Herbal Medicine Study" had 48.3% lexical matching. When semantic matching was also applied, "Herbal Medicine Study" showed a value of 87.7% and "Shin's Clinical Herbal Medicine Study" 74.2%. In terms of formula classification names, lexical matching was 28.9% of 83 subjects, and when semantic matching was also considered, the value was 30.1%. When the conceptual elements of this study were applied, some IST terms that are classified with other codes were found to be conceptually consistent, and some terms were not accepted due to different depths in the classification systems of each source.

  • NTIS(National Science & Technology Information Service) provides the information for domestic research projects. It in particular has several classification schemes to classify research projects and provide better retrieval and analysis services. It however is difficult to understand the characteristic of a research project clearly since only a classification in a classification scheme can be chosen about a research project. Moreover, the classification scheme covers the high-level classification for every research areas so that it cannot cover the area specialized to the oriental medicines. On the other hand, the classification schemes for oriental medicines have recently been studied in oriental medicine field. However, it also covers the high-level classification for oriental medicine so that it may not suit to a classification scheme for research projects. Therefore, in this paper we propose a classification scheme to understand clearly the characteristic of research projects in oriental medicine and use to use them to retrieval and analysis services.

  • In this paper, we investigated a method for feature - based classification to develop software which is suitable to the classification of high resolution satellite imagery . So, we developed related algorithm and designed user interfaces of convenience, considering various elements require for the feature - based classification. The software was tested with eCognition software which is unique commercial software for feature - based classification.

  • Classification is considered as one of the processes of extracting attributes from satellite imagery and is one of the usual functions in the commercial satellite image processing software. Accuracy of classification plays a key role in deciding the usage of its results. Many tremendous efforts far the higher accuracy have been done in such fields; training area selection, classification algorithm. Our research is one of these effort in different manners. In this research, we conduct classification using multiple satellite image data and evidential approach. We statistically consider the posterior probabilities and certainty in maximum likelihood classification and methodologically Dempster's orthogonal sums. Unfortunately, accuracy for the whole data sets has not assessed yet, but accuracy assessments in training fields and check fields shows accuracy improvement over 10% in overall accuracy and over 0.1 in kappa index.

  • classification of the satellite images provides information about land cover and/or land use. Quality of the classification result depends mainly on the spatial and spectral resolutions of the images. In this study, image fusion in terms of resolution merging, and band integration with multi-source of the satellite images; Landsat ETM+ and Ikonos were carried out to improve classification. Resolution merging and band integration could generate imagery of high resolution with more spectral bands. Precise image co-registration is required to remove geometric distortion between different sources of images. Combination of unsupervised and supervised classification of the fused imagery was implemented to improve classification. 3D display of the results was possible by combining DEM with the classification result so that interpretability could be improved.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the trends of Classification Studies in Korea from 205 research articles in five scholarly journals in Library and Information Science during the period 1986-2011. Individual article was analyzed in the aspects of specific research topics, research methodologies, data collection & analysis, and the characteristics of classification research was suggested. The amount of research paper has increased during the period and the focus of the study was on practical use and most of the papers were about new classification schedules or modification of current classification systems. Most of the papers were literature research and comparative research on classification systems by professors or graduate students. Top 9 authors in classification research were professors or lecturers and a few authors were computer science major. Therefore, various research topics, research methodologies and collaborations with other disciplines are necessary for future classification research.

  • The study aims at reviewing research trends of records classification and archival arrangement, analysing issues, and suggesting futures tasks in related research area. It starts with defining research categories of records and archives classification through analysing the term of 'classification' being found in the Public Records Management Act. Thirty five research papers which are covering classification of records and archives and published in 1980's are selected for contents analysis. Considering the analysis of domestic and foreign research, and the practical needs, it makes clear the issues and tasks for future research. The study concludes with emphasizing more empirical research for guiding records and archives management and reformulating archival theories in electronic environments.
