  • Objectives: Professional firefighters face various health hazards and are required to maintain both physical and mental fitness to effectively mitigate crises and respond to emergencies. Moreover, the long working hours and shift work of this profession impact sleep quality. This study investigated the quality of sleep and its associated factors among firefighters in Bangkok, Thailand. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of firefighters affiliated with the Bangkok Fire and Rescue Department, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Thailand between January 2023 and March 2023. A cluster random sampling technique was utilized to distribute 600 questionnaires to firefighters in 15 fire stations. The questionnaire addressed demographic, work-related, and environmental factors. Sleep quality was assessed using the Thai version of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Data analysis involved both descriptive and inferential statistics. Bivariate and multiple logistic regressions were performed. Results: The response rate was 78.7% (n=472), and 44.1% of the firefighters reported poor sleep quality (PSQI score >5). Sleep quality was statistically associated with conflicting family relationships (odds ratio [OR], 1.8; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.1 to 2.9), additional part-time jobs (daytime, OR, 2.4; 95% CI, 1.3 to 4.4; or nighttime, OR, 4.3; 95% CI, 1.1 to 16.7), noisy sleeping areas (OR, 1.7; 95% CI, 1.1 to 2.8), and the availability of adequate bedding (OR, 3.0; 95% CI, 1.8 to 4.9). Conclusions: Poor sleep quality among firefighters was associated with various personal, work-related, and environmental factors. Organizations should promote policies that improve sleep quality through good sleep hygiene practices and facilities.

  • Recently, the shrunk influence of printed cartoon has been superseded by the influence of Webtoon in the comic industry. Webtoon has gained popularity and interest by being served on internet quickly and easily. Their novel material and sympathetic topic have made it possible for many Webtoons to be reproduced into tv dramas and movies, so, the influence of them has been increased as the copyright industry of culture contents industry. The increasing interest for Webtoon has induced academic studies for the subject. Among the various studies in need on Webtoon, the most important study topics in need are 'Story' and 'Quality' which are criterion for readers to choose Webtoons to read. To create the Webtoon that are great at 'Story' and 'Quality', the study on plots should be preceded, which recast episodes organically through a logical causal relationship. Therefore, in this study, the plots of Webtoons have been analyzed through Rescue plot in and the Riddle plot in selected from the Kang Full's Webtoon series, 'mystery psychology horror season', which are evaluated as the great work at 'Story' and 'Quality.' The analysis was implemented based on Tobias' theory which suggests 'the characteristics of plot' and '8 principles for good plot.' First, Kang Full's webtoons were analyzed through 'the characteristics of plot' and '6 principles for good plot' which is modified from '8 principles of good plot' based on Tobias' theory. Applicability was checked if Tobias' theory could be applied to Kang Full's Webtoon checking through the scenes and contents of the Webtoon. (1) Tobias' 'the characteristics of plot' could be applied to both Rescue plot in and the Riddle plot in . (2) Among '6 principles for good plot', 5 principles are shown in The Lighting Store and all of the 6 principles in Neighbor. The result shows that Tobias theory could be applied to the plot of Webtoon. The fact that Kang Full's Webtoons are composed in a formulaic form could be identified through 'the characteristics of plot' and '6 principles for good plot' shown in Rescue plot in and the Riddle plot in .

  • Purpose: This study was dont: to evaluate the factors that influence secondary traumatic stress, burnout, and physical symptoms experienced by firefighters. In addition, a hypothetical model was developed. Method: The data were collected using self-reported questionnaires from 410 field service firefighters. Data analysis was done with the SPSSWIN 10.0 program for descriptive statistics and Windows LISREL program to determine the causal relationship between the measurement variables. Results: The hypothetical model which was developed fits well with actual data(${\chi}^2$=3.16, p=0.99, GFI=1.00, AGFI=0.99, NFI=0.99, and NNFI=1.06). The variable, personality type, social support, and impact mobilization frequency had a significant effect and accounted for 7% of the secondary traumatic stress in firefighters. The variables, career, social support, and secondary traumatic stress had a significant effect and accounted for 24% of the burnout in firefighters. Social support, impact mobilization frequency, and secondary traumatic stress were important variables and accounted for 31% of the physical symptoms in firefighters. Conclusion: It is necessary for firefighters to manage themselves according to their personality types. Strategies that can increase the firefighters' social support and decrease their perceived secondary traumatic stress also need to be developed to minimize or prevent a negative effect on their health.

  • A GNSS(Global Navigation Satellite System) using GPS provides us with very useful information concerning the positioning of users in many sectors such as transportation, social services, the justice system and customs services, public works, search and rescue systems and leisure. A GNSS using the Galileo satellite is due to work in 2008 and expected to be used in various fields such as aviation, marine transportation, land surveying, resources development precise agriculture, telemetics, and so on. In this paper, we discuss the implementation and testing of a combined GPS/Galileo receiver which we named KSTAR V1.0. Each tracking module of GPS/Galileo dual mode correlator has the five track arms which consist of Very Early code, Early code, Prompt code, late code, and Very late code. Each of 24 tracking modules can be assigned to GPS and/or Galileo signal by changing mode selection register. The basic correlator integration dump period is set to 1ms for GPS C/A code and fast Galileo signal tracking. The performance of the developed combined GPS/Galileo receiver was tested and evaluated using the IF (Intermediated Frequency)-level GPS/Galileo signal generator.

  • Many intrinsically unstructured/unfolded proteins (IUPs) contain transient local secondary structures even though they are "unstructured" in a tertiary sense. These local secondary structures are named "pre-structured motifs (PreSMos)" and in fact are the specificity determinants for IUP-target binding, i.e., the active sites in IUPs. Using high-resolution NMR we have delineated a PreSMo active site in the intrinsically unfolded mid-domain (residues 201-300) of SUMO-specific protease 4 (SUSP4). This 29-residue motif which we termed a p53 rescue motif can protect p53 from mdm2 quenching by binding to the p53-helix binding pocket in mdm2(3-109). Our work demonstrates that the PreSMo approach is quite effective in providing a structural rationale for interactions of p53-mdm2-SUSP4 and opens a novel avenue for designing mdm2-inhibiting anticancer compounds.

  • The use of special gas masks such as PAPR is strongly required for the safe and efficient work of fire-fighters in removing fire residue and rescue activity. Special gas masks commonly use canisters with carbon activated particles. This paper analyzed the pressure distribution, velocity distribution and pressure loss characteristics in canisters using CFD simulation, and showed pressure drops are affected by inlet air velocity, canister geometry and increase dramatically especially with the decrease of particle diameters and volume fractions.

  • Purpose : This study was attempted to check the correlation between job satisfaction and turnover intention and to provide the basic information to increase job satisfaction of fire fighters. Methods : A total of 369 questionnaires were distributed and 354 questionnaires were filled out and collected for analysis. Results : There was difference in turnover intention by general characteristics. According to position, group of Fire lieutenant or more is lower than that of Fire sergeant or less (F=3.61, p=.014). The group of rescue & emergency service and administration was significantly lower than other groups(F=4.84, p=.001). In pattern of duties, day service group was significantly lower than shift work group in .05 level(t=2.59, p=.022). Finally, in the correlation, the more job satisfaction increase, the more turnover intention decrease that represents inverse correlation between job satisfaction and turnover intention(r=-.523, p <.001). Namely, it represents the results that the higher job satisfaction is low turnover intention. Conclusion : More studies of fire officer in other cities are required to generalize the results. We have to develop program for job satisfaction for fire officer firstly, because program for job satisfaction used in this study was not developed for fire fighters.

  • Strong earthquakes have caused substantial losses in recent years, and earthquake risk prevention has aroused a significant amount of attention. Earthquake risk prevention products can help improve the self and mutual-rescue abilities of people, and can create convenient conditions for earthquake relief and reconstruction work. At present, it is difficult for earthquake risk prevention information systems to meet the information requirements of multiple scenarios, as they are highly specialized. Aiming at mitigating this shortcoming, this study investigates and analyzes four user roles (government users, public users, social force users, insurance market users), and summarizes their requirements for earthquake risk prevention products in the whole disaster chain, which comprises three scenarios (pre-quake preparedness, in-quake warning, and post-quake relief). A targeted recommendation rule base is then constructed based on the case analysis method. Considering the user's location, the earthquake magnitude, and the time that has passed since the earthquake occurred, a targeted recommendation model is built. Finally, an Android APP is implemented to realize the developed model. The APP can recommend multi-form earthquake risk prevention products to users according to their requirements under the three scenarios. Taking the 2019 Lushan earthquake as an example, the APP exhibits that the model can transfer real-time information to everyone to reduce the damage caused by an earthquake.

  • This study surveyed 171 police officers working in Jeollabuk-do to investigate their first aid knowledge and the need for education. The results showed that the correct answer rate for first aid knowledge among police officers was 75.61 points out of a possible 100 points. Additionally, 98.8% of respondents indicated a need for first aid training, expressing a preference for 2-hour sessions integrated with their work education. There was a statistically significant difference in the correct answer rate for first aid knowledge based on education level and experience in emergency situations, but no significant difference in the need for education was observed across respondents. The significance of this research lies in its provision of foundational data for first aid education among police officers, which can be instrumental in developing training programs and policies aimed at enhancing their first aid capabilities. Specifically, the study contributes to improving the effectiveness of police officers' responses in emergency situations by offering concrete suggestions on the content, method, and duration of first aid training. These findings underscore the necessity and importance of providing comprehensive and effective first aid training not only to police officers but to all first responders, emphasizing that such training is crucial for ensuring public safety.

  • Background/Aims: Recent reports suggest that the biliary self-expandable metallic stent (SEMS) is highly effective for maintaining hemostasis when endoscopic hemostasis fails in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)-related bleeding. We compared whether temporary SEMS offers better efficacy than angioembolization for refractory immediate ERCP-related bleeding. Methods: Patients who underwent SEMS placement or underwent angioembolization for bleeding control in refractory immediate ERCP-related bleeding were included in the retrospective analysis. We evaluated the hemostasis success rate, severity of bleeding, change in hemoglobin levels, amount of transfusion, and delay to the start of hemostasis. Results: A total of 27 patients with SEMS and 13 patients who underwent angioembolization were enrolled. More transfusions were needed in the angioembolization group (1.0±1.4 units vs. 2.5±2.0 units; p=0.034). SEMS failure was successfully rescued by angioembolization. The partially covered SEMS (n=23, 85.1%) was generally used, and the median stent-indwelling time was 4 days. The mean delay to the start of angioembolization was 95.2±142.9 (range, 9-491) min. Conclusions: Temporary SEMS had similar results to those of angioembolization (96.3% vs. 92.3%; p=0.588). Immediate SEMS insertion is considered a bridge treatment modality for immediate refractory ERCP-related bleeding. Angioembolization still has a role as rescue therapy when SEMS does not work effectively.
