Background: The Automated Fluorescent Immunoassay System (AFIAS) rotavirus assay (Boditech Med Inc., Chuncheon, Korea) is a new rapid antigen test for rotavirus detection. We evaluated the performance of this assay for detecting rotaviruses and their specific genotypes in clinical stool samples. Methods: AFIAS rotavirus assay was performed in 103 rotavirus-positive and 103 rotavirus-negative stool samples (confirmed by both PCR and ELISA), and its results were compared with those of PCR, ELISA, and immunochromatographic assay (ICA). We evaluated diagnostic sensitivity/specificity, the detectability of rotavirus subtypes, lower limit of detection (LLOD), reproducibility, cross-reactivity, and interference of AFIAS rotavirus assay. Results: Based on PCR and ELISA results, diagnostic sensitivity and specificity of the AFIAS rotavirus assay were both 99.0%. LLOD results showed that the AFIAS assay had sensitivity similar to or greater than ICA and ELISA. High reproducibility was confirmed, and no cross-reactivity or interference was detected. This assay could detect genotypes G1P[8], G2P[4], G3P[8], G4P[6], G4P[8], G8P[4], G8P[8], G9P[4], and G9P[8]. Conclusions: The AFIAS rotavirus assay showed high reproducibility, sensitivity, and specificity as well as excellent agreement with ELISA, PCR, and ICA. It detected the most common as well as unusual genotypes of rotavirus prevalent in Korea. It could be a useful onsite assay for rapid, convenient, and cost-effective detection of rotavirus infection.
The establishment of an optimal and functional condylar position (centric relation) as the therapeutic and diagnostic reference position during occlusal treatment for patients with temporomandibular joint and muscle pain. dysfunction has long been an important subject in dentistry. The objective of this study was to compare the reproducibility md the changes of condylar position in normal group to those in patient group after use of the occlusal biteplane splint. For this study, 11 normal adults who had no symptoms of masticatory dysfunction and 18 patients who had visited at the department of occlusion in dental infirmary of Yonsei University were selected. For each subject three centric relation records were recorded before treatment, after 2 weeks and after symptoms were improved. And the condylar positions in centric relation were measured using articulators and a Vericheck. On the basis of this study, the following results were obtained. 1. In normal group, there was no significant difference of reproducibility in condylar position before and after the use of the occlusal biteplane splint for 2 weeks. 2. In patient group there was significant improvement in the reproducibility of condylar position after treatment (P<0.01). The reproducibility in patient group, however, was less than normal group. (P<0.01) 3. The mean distance of condylar movements was $0.38{\pm}0.22mm$ after 2 weeks in normal group. 4. In patient group, condylar movements were $1.36{\pm}0.70mm$ (P<0.01), significantly different from normal group. (P<0.01) 5. In patient group, the main direction of condylar movements after treatment was toward anterior and superior, preponderance being at superior direction.
The objectives of this study were to compare the position of centric relation guided by means of leaf gauges, bilateral manipulation, chin-point guidance with Lucia jig and self-guided method and the reproducibility, respectively. A Veri-check (Denar Co., Anaheim, California) was employed for examining, and the displacement of position and reproducibility were verified. The following results were obtained. 1. On the sagittal plane, the centric relation guided by means of leaf gauges showed greater posterior displacement than that by means of bilateral manipulation and less than that by means of chin-point guidance with Lucia jig, and self-guided centric relation showed least posterior displacement. The centric relation guided by means of bilateral manipulation showed greater superior displacement than that by means of chin-point guidance with Lucia jig and less than that by means of leaf gauges and self-guided centric relation showed least superior displacement. 2. On the horizontal plane, the centric relation guided by means of chin-point guidance with Lucia jig showed greater posterior displacement than that of bilateral manipulation and less than that leaf gauges, however the self-guided centric relation showed slightly anterior displacement. 3. The anteroposterior displacement measured on sagittal plane and horizontal plane were highly correlated. (p<0.05). 4. The reproducibility of centric relation guided by means of leaf gauges, bilateral manipulation and chin-point guidance with Lucia jig were similar and more reproducible than self-guided centric relation.
Purpose: To compare three digital radiographic imaging sensors by evaluating the visibility of endodontic file tips with interobserver reproducibility and assessing subjectively the clarity of images in comparison with the x-ray film images. Materials and Methods: Forty-five extracted sound premolars were used for this study. Fifteen plaster blocks were made with three premolars each and #8, 10, 15 K-flexofiles were inserted into the root canal of premolars. They were radiographically exposed using periapical x-ray films (Kodak Insight Dental film, Eastmann Kodak company, Rochester, USA), Digora imaging plates (Soredex-Orion Co., Helsinki, Finland), CDX 2000HQ sensors (Biomedisys Co., Seoul, Korea), and CDR sensors (Schick Inc., Long Island, USA). The visibility of endodontic files was evaluated with interobserver reproducibility, which was calculated as the standard deviations of X, Y coordinates of endodontic file tips measured on digital images by three oral and maxillofacial radiologists. The clarity of images was assessed subjectively using 3 grades, i.e. plus, equal, and minus in comparison with the conventional x-ray film images. Results: Interobserver reproducibility of endodontic file tips was the highest in CDR sensor (p < 0.05) only except at Y coordinates of #15 file. In the subjective assessment of the image clarity, the plus grade was the most frequent in CDR sensor at all size of endodontic file (p < 0.05). Conclusion : CDR sensor was the most superior to the other sensors, CDX 2000HQ sensor and Digora imaging plate in the evaluation of interobserver reproducibility of endodontic file tip and subjective assessment of image clarity.
Objective : This study was undertaken to compare the diagnostic performances of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), MR myelography (MRM) and myelography in young soldiers with a herniated lumbar disc (HLD). Methods : Sixty-five male soldiers with HLD comprised the study cohort. A visual analogue scale for low back pain (VAS-LBP), VAS for leg radiating pain (VAS-LP), and Oswestry disability index (ODI) were applied. Lumbar MR, MRM, and myelographic findings were checked and evaluated by four independent radiologists, respectively. Each radiologist was asked to score (1 to 5) the degree of disc protrusion and nerve root compression using modified grading systems devised by the North American Spine Society and Pfirrmann and the physical examination rules for conscription in the Republic of Korea. Correlated coefficients between clinical and radiological factors were calculated. Interpretational reproducibility between MRI and myelography by four bases were calculated and compared. Results : Mean patient age was $20.5{\pm}1.1$. Mean VAS-LBP and VAS-LP were $6.7{\pm}1.6$ and $7.4{\pm}1.7$, respectively. Mean ODI was $48.0{\pm}16.2%$. Mean MRI, MRM, and myelography scores were $3.3{\pm}0.9$, $3.5{\pm}1.0$, and $3.9{\pm}1.1$, respectively. All scores of diagnostic performances were significantly correlated (p < 0.05). However, none of these scores reflected the severity of patients' symptoms. There was no statistical difference of interpretational reproducibility between MRI and myelography. Conclusion : Although MRI and myelography are based on different principles, they produce similar interpretational reproducibility in young soldiers with a HLD. However, these modalities do not reflect the severity of symptoms.
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to develop a dish-based semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) for Korean adolescents and evaluate its reproducibility and validity. SUBJECTS/METHODS: Based on 24-hour dietary recall data from the 4th Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES), we developed a FFQ with 71 items. From a quota sample of 160 adolescents recruited using gender and age group as stratification variables, 153 participated in the complete data collection process. The FFQ was administered to each subject twice, at an interval of 3-4 weeks, to evaluate the test-retest reliability. The validity of the FFQ was assessed relative to 8-day food record data. RESULTS: The study findings demonstrated the FFQ's satisfactory reproducibility. Spearman correlation coefficients ranged from 0.64(for ${\beta}-carotene$) to 0.81(for protein). From cross-classification analyses, the proportion of subjects in the same intake quartile was highest for protein (65.4%) and lowest for vitamin A(47.1%). With regard to validity analysis, Spearman correlation coefficients ranged from 0.27(for vitamin A and fiber) to 0.90 (for energy). The proportions of subjects in the opposite categories between the first FFQ and the 8-day food record data were generally low within the range from 0.74% (for energy and carbohydrate) to 13.2% (for ${\beta}-carotene$). CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, the dish-based semiquantitative FFQ developed in this study can be useful for grouping Korean adolescents according to major macro- and micronutrient intakes with reasonable reproducibility and validity.

Nakdong River was recently dredged with multi-functional weirs construction. Therefore, the depth was deepened and the lag time also increased. As a result, stratification occurred in some sections with deep water depth, and it also caused the increase of algal bloom phenomenon. The purpose of this study is to evaluate reproducibility of stratification in the Nakdong River by applying the EFDC model, which is a three-dimensional hydraulic and water quality analysis model proving the reproducibility of stratification phenomena in reservoirs and estuaries. In order to reproduce the Nakdong river water temperature and DO stratification, EFDC model was constructed in the downstream part of the Nakdong river and sensitivity analysis was performed on key parameters sensitive to stratification. Sensitivity analysis was used to reproduce stratification by selecting optimal parameters. The results of this study can be used as basic data for the analysis of various destratification scenarios.
In this study, we tried to improve the reproducibility of signal intensity by applying DOTS method. The study was conducted on 30 patients who had undergone hepatic screening because of poor reproducibility and decreased signal intensity. The images were acquired before and after injection of contrast media and then post-processed by DOTS methods. Signal intensity was compared and evaluated. The results showed that the signal intensity of the images was 183.3% ($1038.0{\pm}70.7$ before application, $2940.7{\pm}179.6$ after application) and 1118.4% ($444.1{\pm}92.4$, $5410.5{\pm}168.4$ after application). This is a significant improvement in the fact that the reproducibility of MRI) was changed by the DOTS method, which is a post-processing method.
Purpose: To assess the reproducibility and repeatability for each color vision test method. Methods: The subjects for color vision test were 30 students without congenital color vision deficiency and they major in optometry in a university, Korea. The type of color vision test selected for this study were Hans color vision test, Hans 15 hue test and Lanthony D 15 hue test. The Ishihara test was added for assessment of reliability of inter-tester. Results: All of the subjects were classified into normal at pseudoisochromatic plates, but one subject's result showed mild blue-yellow color deficiency at Hue discrimination. Results of 3 repeated test for subjects and inter-tester examination showed no errors at pseudoisochromatic plates. There were differences in mild errors among repeated test at Hue discrimination, but no differences were found in the results of repeated test to classify color vision deficiency. Conclusion: Each tester had better be more skilled to test even simple color vision test for eliminating the possibility of mild errors. Each subject might just as well be careful in color vision test. It is required to test both method of pseudoisochromatic plates and Hue discrimination in screening test.

BACKGROUND: Global longitudinal strain (GLS) is an accurate and reproducible parameter of left ventricular (LV) systolic function which has shown meaningful prognostic value. Fast, user-friendly, and accurate tools are required for its widespread implementation. We aim to compare a novel web-based tool with two established algorithms for strain analysis and test its reproducibility. METHODS: Thirty echocardiographic datasets with focused LV acquisitions were analyzed using three different semi-automated endocardial GLS algorithms by two readers. Analyses were repeated by one reader for the purpose of intra-observer variability. CAAS Qardia (Pie Medical Imaging) was compared with 2DCPA and AutoLV (TomTec). RESULTS: Mean GLS values were -15.0 ± 3.5% from Qardia, -15.3 ± 4.0% from 2DCPA, and -15.2 ± 3.8% from AutoLV. Mean GLS between Qardia and 2DCPA were not statistically different (p = 0.359), with a bias of -0.3%, limits of agreement (LOA) of 3.7%, and an intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) of 0.88. Mean GLS between Qardia and AutoLV were not statistically different (p = 0.637), with a bias of -0.2%, LOA of 3.4%, and an ICC of 0.89. The coefficient of variation (CV) for intra-observer variability was 4.4% for Qardia, 8.4% 2DCPA, and 7.7% AutoLV. The CV for inter-observer variability was 4.5%, 8.1%, and 8.0%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: In echocardiographic datasets of good image quality analyzed at an independent core laboratory using a standardized annotation method, a novel web-based tool for GLS analysis showed consistent results when compared with two algorithms of an established platform. Moreover, inter- and intra-observer reproducibility results were excellent.
