현대 예술 작품에 나타난 죽음의 미학 (The Aesthetics of Death of Works of Comtemporary Art)

  • 본 연구는 현대 예술에서 나타난 죽음 미학의 의미를 깊게 이해하기 위해, 먼저 예술 작품에 담긴 죽음의 미학적 발전 과정을 통시적 관점으로 정리하고, 다음으로 현대 예술 작품에서의 죽음의 미학을 분류하고 의미를 살펴보았다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 죽음의 미학적 표현 형식은 죽음의 재현과 죽음 상징의 두 가지로 구분한다. 죽음의 재현은 실질적 대상 재현, 상상의 대상 재현을 포함한다. 죽음의 상징적 표현은 외면적 표현 상징과 내면적 표현 상징으로 나눌 수 있다. 둘째, 현대 예술에서 죽음의 재현성 표현은 죽음의 장면에 대한 묘사를 통해 죽음으로 인한 다양한 문제 및 철학적 의미를 더한다. 셋째, 현대 예술에서 죽음의 상징적 의미는 죽음과 직접적으로 관련된 것뿐만 아니라 죽음에 따른 다양한 심리상태를 표현한다. 후속 연구에서는 예술 작품에서 죽음의 미학에 대한 작가의 시각적 표현과 그에 따른 심층적인 의미 변화를 진행할 것이다.

알렉산더 맥퀸(Alexander McQueen) 작품에 나타난 죽음의 미학 (A Study on the Aesthetics of death in Alexander McQueen's works)

  • 본 연구자는 선행 연구를 통해 태초부터 전개된 인류의 예술에 내포된 죽음의 미학의 전개 과정을 정리한 바 있다. 본 연구는 해당 연구를 심화시킨 후속 연구로, 알렉산더 맥퀸의 패션 작품에 담긴 죽음의 미학적 의미를 연구하였는데, 먼저 죽음의 미학적 특성을 분류하고, 이를 근거로 알렉산더 맥퀸의 의상 작품에서의 죽음의 미학적 특성을 분석 정리하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 죽음의 미학적 표현은 죽음의 재현성, 상징성, 및 종교성의 세 가지로 나뉜다. 재현성 표현은 실질적 대상 재현과 상상의 대상 재현을 포함하며. 상징적 표현은 외면적 표현과 내면적 표현 두 가지를 포함한다. 둘째, 알렉산더 맥퀸의 작품에서 죽음의 재현성은 주로 가상의 무대 장면과 복장을 통해 구현하였다. 셋째, 죽음의 상징성은 육체적인 죽음과 직결된 해골, 혈액 등뿐만 아니라 죽음에 따른 다양한 정서와 심리상태도 보여준다. 넷째, 죽음의 종교성은 알렉산더 맥퀸의 작품에서 십자가 등의 모티브로 종교적 내용을 재현한 것으로 표현한 것을 알 수 있었다.

Drug-induced liver injury

  • Drug-induced liver injury (DILI), including herbal and dietary supplement hepatotoxicity, is often passed lightly; however, it can lead to the requirement of a liver transplant or may even cause death because of liver failure. Recently, the American College of Gastroenterology, Chinese Society of Hepatology and European Association for the Study of the Liver guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of DILI have been established, and they will be helpful for guiding clinical treatment decisions. Roussel Uclaf Causality Assessment Method scoring is the most commonly used method to diagnose DILI; however, it has some limitations, such as poor validity and reproducibility. Recently, studies on new biomarkers have been actively carried out, which will help diagnose DILI and predict the prognosis of DILI. It is expected that the development of new therapies such as autophagy inducers and various other technologies of the fourth industrial revolution will be applicable to DILI research.

Mass Spectrometry-Based Analytical Methods of Amatoxins in Biological Fluids to Monitor Amatoxin-Induced Mushroom Poisoning

  • Amatoxin-induced mushroom poisoning starts with nonspecific symptoms of toxicity but hepatic damage may follow, resulting in the rapid development of liver insufficiency and, ultimately, coma and death. Accurate detection of amatoxins, such as α-, β-, and γ-amanitin, within the first few hours after presentation is necessary to improve the therapeutic outcomes of patients. Therefore, analytical methods for the identification and quantification of α-, β-, and γ-amanitin in biological samples are necessary for clinical and forensic toxicology. This study presents a literature review of the analytical techniques available for amatoxin detection in biological matrices, and established an inventory of liquid chromatography (LC) techniques with mass spectrometry (MS), ultraviolet (UV) detection, and electrochemical detection (ECD). LC-MS methods using quadrupole tandem mass spectrometry, time-of-flight mass spectrometry, and orbitrap MS are powerful analytical techniques for the identification and determination of amatoxins in plasma, urine, serum, and tissue samples, with high sensitivity, specificity, and reproducibility compared to LC with UV and ECD, enzyme-linked immunoassay, and capillary electrophoresis methods.

암 환자의 영적 디스트레스 측정도구 개발 (The Development of a Tool for Assessment of Spiritual Distress in Cancer Patients)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to develop a scale to measure spiritual distress in cancer patients. Methods: A total of 69 preliminary items for the spiritaul distress assessment tool (SDAT) were compiled, based on a literature review, selection of empirically relevant items through concept analysis of hybrid models, confirmation of content validity by experts, cognitive interviews, and a pretest. Self-administered questionnaires were collected between April 1 and July 31, 2018, from 225 cancer patients at four medical institutions and one nursing home. The data were analyzed using item analysis, exploratory factor analysis, convergent and discriminant validity, and Pearson correlation for criterion validity. Reliability was tested by Cronbash's α coefficient. Results: The final version of the SDAT consisted of 20 items. Five-factors, loss of peace, burden of family, avoidance of confronting death, guilt and remorse, regret for not being able to apololgize and forgive were extracted, and showed 62.8% of total variance. The factors were confirmed through convergent and discriminant validity. Criterion validity was confirmed by functional assessment chronic illness therapy spiritual well-being scale 12 (FACIT-Sp12). The overall Cronbach's α was .91, and the coefficients of each subscale ranged from .78~.83. Conclusion: The SDAT for cancer patients is valid and reliable. It is suggested that the tool can be used to measure spiritual distress in cancer patients.

요로결석 위치 진단에 대한 복부자세 변화에 따른 연구 (A Study on the Diagnosis of Urinary Stone Location by Abdominal Positioning Variations)

  • Patients who visit the emergency room with urinary stones have difficulty lying down in a supine position due to severe pain when performing the KUB test. The purpose of this study was to find methods to reduce the patients' pain and image distortion, and obtain medical images with high diagnostic values. After checking the standard classification of disease and cause of death, the target group consisted of 121 patients who had clearly distinguished stones from computed tomography. Patients with stones in the ureteralvesical junction were excluded. Qualitative image evaluation was performed by confirming the location of the stone in the computed tomography images. and evaluated the rate of visual discrimination of stones possible through KUB and abdominal plain X-ray. Quantitative image evaluation was performed on the KUB, abdominal plain X-ray images. The transverse process of the first lumbar vertebrae served as the standard point, and the length from this point to the lower part of the stone was measured. Results from looking at the rate of visual discrimination of stones possible through KUB and abdominal plain X-ray showed: 94 patients (77.6%) for KUB images and 91 patients (75.2%) for computed tomography images. The standard deviation for KUB and abdominal X-ray was 3 (2.4%). Comparing and analyzing the location from KUB images and abdominal plain X-ray images, the stone position was 10.1 mm in the kidney, 10.5 mm in the ureteropelvic junction, and 9.7 mm in the ureters. It was shown that the stone moved 10 mm on average with significant statistical difference (P<0.05). In cases where the pain is so severe that it is impossible to perform the test in the supine position, an alternative may be to check the stone position by performing a modified KUB test by having the patient stand in a vertical position. In the future, this will provide convenience to both the examiner and the patient when performing the examination, and it will contribute with its reproducibility.

만성신부전증환자에서 HPLC/FLD를 이용한 혈장 Homocysteine의 측정 (Measurement of Total Plasma Homocysteine in Patients with Chronic Renal Failure Using HPLC/FLD)

  • 본 연구에서는 한국인 만성신부전증 환자에서 심혈관계 질환의 조기진단을 위한 생화학적 표지 자로서 homocysteine의 임상적 유용성을 검토하기 위하여, 만성신부전증 환자와 건강인에서 HPLC/FLD (high performance liquid chromatography/fluorescence detector)를 이 용하여 혈장 homocysteine 농도를 측정하고 그 결과를 비교하였다. 본 실험방법의 회수율은 98.6$\pm$5.8%를 나타내었으며, 0.2 nmol/L 보다 낮은 농도까지 측정이 가능하였고, 2~50 nmol/ml까지 직선성이 성립하였다 (correlation coefficient =0.9997). 한국인 중 건강한 정상인 (20명)과 만성신부전증 환자 (90명)에서 혈장 homocysteine은 각각 6.81$\pm$1.54 nmol/ml과 27.28$\pm$14.94 nmol/ml이었으며 , 환자군에서는 정상인군에 비하여 약 4배정도 높은 수치를 나타내었다 (p<0.05).본 실험의 결과로 볼 때 HPLC/FLD를 이용한 homocysteine 측정은 예민도와 재현성이 높아 routine 실험실 방법으로 유용성이 높을 것으로 생각되며, 또한 혈장 homocysteine의 측정은 만성신부전증 환자의 주요한 사망원인이 되는 폐쇄성 동맥질 환을 조기에 진단하거나, 혹은 homocysteine 농도를 저하시키는 치료를 실시 한 후 치료효과를 판단하기 위한 생화학적 marker로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
