Proxy-Quorum Based Replication Control Schemes for Mobile Internet Systems (이동형 인터넷 기기를 위한 위임 정족수 기반의 복제데이터 제어 기법)

  • Mobile Internet allows users to request critical information and receive swift responses at any places, but mobile users could suffer from unreliable and ill-timed services due to the characteristics of wireless media, One way that reduces possibility of the unsatisfactory services is data replication. Data Replica1ion, however, inevitably induces the overhead of maintaining replica consistency which requires more expensive synchronization mechanism. We propose a new replicated data management scheme in distributed mobile environment, In order to alleviate negative impact of synchronization message overhead in fault-prone mobile Internet environment, we devise a new replication control scheme called proxy quorum consensus (PQC), PQC minimizes the message overhead by coordinating quorum access activities by means of proxy mediated voting (PMV) which exploits reliable proxy hosts instead of unreliable mobile hosts in voting process, We also propose a simulation model to show the performance of PQC. Based on the results of the performance evaluation, we conclude that PQC scheme outperforms the traditional schemes.

  • A Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (VANET) is a vehicular specific type of a mobile ad-hoc network, to provide temporary communications among nearby vehicles. Mobile node of VANET consumes energy and resource with participating in the member of network. In a VANET, data replication and cooperative caching have been used as promising solutions to improve system performance. Existing cooperative caching scheme in a VANET mostly focuses on weak consistency is not always satisfactory. In this paper, we propose an efficient cache management scheme to maintain strong data consistency in a VANET. We make an adaptive scheduling scheme to broadcast Invalidation Report (IR) in order to reduce query delay and communication overhead to maintain strong data consistency. The simulation result shows that our proposed method has a strength in terms of query delay and communication overhead.

  • Peer-to-peer (P2P) systems have become a popular medium through which to share huge amounts of data. On the basis of network topology, P2P systems are divided into three types: centralized, structured distribution, unstructured distribution. Unstructured P2P systems such as Gnutella are novel in the sense that they are extensible and reliable. However, as the number of nodes increases, unstructured P2P systems would suffer from the high complexity of search operations that have to scan the network to find the required data items. Efficient replication of data items can reduce the complexity, but it introduces another problem of maintaining consistency among replicated data items when each data item could be updated. In this paper, we propose a new update propagation algorithm that propagates an updated data item to all of its replica. The proposed algorithm can reduce the message transfer overhead by adopting the notion of timestamp and hybrid push/pull messaging.

Version Management Method for Consistency in the Grid Database (그리드 데이터베이스에서 일관성 유지를 위한 버전 관리 기법)

  • The grid database management system is used for large data processing, high availability and data integration by grid environment. It has a replica for processing performance and high availability in each node. The grid database has a problem of inconsistency, when the update is occurred with a coincidently frequent. To solve this problem, in this paper proposed a version management method for consistency in the grid database. Proposed version manager manages a version of each replica. The version manager keeps a consistency of update operation when is occurred at each node by using a pending queue and waiting queue. Also the node keeps a consistency using a priority queue. So, proposed method has stable and fast update propagation. The proposed method shows stable and faster update propagation than traditional method by performance evaluation.

  • In this paper, we introduce a structural redundancy method. It reduces the query processing cost incurred when reconfiguring an XML document from divided XML data in shredding XML documents into relations. The fundamental idea is that query performance can be enhanced by analyzing query patterns and replicating data essential for the query performance. For the practical and effective structural redundancy, we analyzed three types of ID, VALUE, and SUBTREE replication. In addition, if given XML data and queries are very large and complex, it can be very difficult to search optimal redundancy set. Therefore, a heuristic search method is introduced in this paper. Finally, XML query processing cost arising by employing the structural redundancy, and the efficiency of proposed search method arc analyzed experimentally It is manifest that XML read query is performed more quick]y but XML update query is performed more slowly due to the additional update consistency cost for replicas. However, experimental results showed that in-place ID replication is useful even in having excessive update cost. It was also observed that multiple-place SUBTREE replication can enhance read query performance remarkably if only update cost is not excessive.

  • CERN에서 1992년 웹이 발표된 이후 기업내 정보 환경에 많은 변화중 가장 두드러진 부분이 인트라넷/익스트라넷 환경으로 대표되는 기업내 정보시스템이다. 이 환경을 통하여 수많은 사용자에게 내부의 정보를 지역과 클라이언트에 관계없이 제공하고 있으므로 기업내 데이터베이스를 연동하는 것이 중요한 비중을 차지했다. 그러나 과거의 기술로는 데이터베이스 연동시 상태정보를 지속적으로 유지할 수 없었고, 이로 인해 웹을 통한 서버와 다수의 클라이언트의 공동 작업 수행시 데이터에 대한 일관성 관리할 수 없었다. 본 논문에서는 새로운 웹과 데이터베이스의 연동을 사용하여 지속적인 상태유지를 가능하게 하고 여기에서 발생하는 공유데이터에 대한 일관성 유지를 기존 낙관적 병행제어 알고리즘인 후진(Backward) 및 전지(Foreword) 방법 대신 실시간 공유데이터의 공동작업에 적합한 점증적 갱신 알고리즘을 제안한다. 이 방법은 검증단계에서 충돌연산으로 인한 재시작을 줄이며, 사전에 불필요한 재시작을 방지하는 방법으로 자료갱신시 다른 클라이언트들에게 변경을 통보하며, 무효화 작업을 각 클라이언트에서 수행함으로써 서버의 부하를 줄일 수 있다.

Implementation and Performance Measuring of Erasure Coding of Distributed File System (분산 파일시스템의 소거 코딩 구현 및 성능 비교)

  • With the growth of big data, machine learning, and cloud computing, the importance of storage that can store large amounts of unstructured data is growing recently. So the commodity hardware based distributed file systems such as MAHA-FS, GlusterFS, and Ceph file system have received a lot of attention because of their scale-out and low-cost property. For the data fault tolerance, most of these file systems uses replication in the beginning. But as storage size is growing to tens or hundreds of petabytes, the low space efficiency of the replication has been considered as a problem. This paper applied erasure coding data fault tolerance policy to MAHA-FS for high space efficiency and introduces VDelta technique to solve data consistency problem. In this paper, we compares the performance of two file systems, MAHA-FS and GlusterFS. They have different IO processing architecture, the former is server centric and the latter is client centric architecture. We found the erasure coding performance of MAHA-FS is better than GlusterFS.

Research about a Data Consistency hold Cost Using a Relocation Technique in Mobile Computing Environment (이동컴퓨팅 환경에서 재배치 기법을 이용한 데이터 일관성 유지비용에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, A method of using the replicated database on a server to get new data without mis sing any information has been being studied in mobile computing environment. So far we ha ye used the Static Replica Allocation(SRA) for the replication which is the method of the replication on the server. This method is to replicate the data on the replica server after $\underline{a}$ moving host is transferred to a cell. Since the network of the SRA is very good, and if there are few moving users, no trouble will happen. But if there is no moving users in a cell, the data will not be shared. Therefore, this paper is about the study of the method of relocation after replicating the data to the cells for the users(User Select Replica Allocation : USRA). We also analyze the access rate and the possibility which are closely related to the moving frequency of the mobile hosts and the numbers of the cells. As a result, We show that the 5% lower access cost and the $2%\sim2.5%$ gains are achieved from the low mobility of the mobile hosts. We also show that t he extension function of USRA reduces the cost by 1.7% and it is influenced by the numbers of the cells.

  • In addition t improved availability, replication of data can enhance performance of distributed real-time transaction processing system by allowing transactions initiated at multiple node to be processed concurrently. To satisfy both the consistency and real-time constraints, it is necessary to integrate concurrency control and atomic commitment protocols with time-driven scheduling methods. blocking caused by existing concurrency control protocols is incompatible with time-driven scheduling because they cannot schedule transactions to meet given deadlines. To maintain consistency of replicated data and to provide a high degree of schedulability and predictability , the proposed time-driven scheduling methods integrate optimistic concurrency control protocols that minimize the duration of blocking and produce the serialization by reflecting the priority transactions. The atomicity of transactions is maintained to ensure successful commitment in distributed environment. Specific time-driven scheduling techniqueare discussed, together with an analysis of the performance of this scheduling.

  • 이동적응망(MANET: Mobile Ad-hoc Network)은 네트워크 하부 구조를 필요로 하지 않은 무선 단말들로 구성된 네트워크이다. 이러한 특성은 네트워크 단절 가능성을 높게 하기 때문에 이동단말들의 데이터 액세스률이 낮아지게 된다는 문제점을 갖는다. 이를 해결하기 위하여 이동 노드들은 데이터의 중복사본을 갖는다. 이동 노드가 갖는 중복사본은 데이터 일관성을 유지하기 위하여 별도의 중복관리 기법이 필요하다. 하지만 MANET을 구성하는 이동 노드들은 일반적으로 제한된 전력을 가지고 있고 단절될 가능성이 높기 때문에 중복 사본의 일관성 보장은 어려운 문제로 지적되고 있다. 기존에 제안된 MANET에서의 데이터 중복관리 기법은 데이터 액세스 빈도수를 계산하여 액세스률을 높이는 방법에 주안점을 두고 있고 갱신 데이터의 일관성 보장은 그 어려움 때문에 주로 판독 연산만 고려하였다. 갱신 트랜잭션을 지원하는 경우 대부분 높은 통신비용을 이유로 데이터 일관성을 보장하지 않는다. 또한 이동 노드가 다수의 서버를 통해서 갱신 연산을 실행하기 때문에 통신 오버헤드로 인하여 전력소모가 크다. 본 논문에서는 주사본 노드를 통하여 갱신을 가능하게 함으로써 데이터 일관성을 유지할 수 있는 데이터 중복 기법을 제안한다. 제안된 기법은 이동 노드들의 에너지 특성을 고려하여 더 않은 에너지를 가진 노드에게 갱신 전파 및 일관성 유지를 의뢰함으로써 상대적으로 낮은 에너지를 갖는 이동 노드의 에너지 효율을 고려하였다.
