Previous studies have demonstrated that repeated restraint stress in rodents produces increases in depression and anxiety-like behaviors and alters the expression of corticotrophin-releasing factor (CRF) in the hypothalamus. The current study focused on the impact of Bupleurum falcatum (BF) extract administration on repeated restraint stress-induced behavioral responses using the forced swimming test (FST) and elevated plus maze (EPM) test. Immunohistochemical examinations of tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) expression in rat brain were also conducted. Male rats received daily doses of 20, 50, or 100 mg/kg (i.p.) BF extract for 15 days, 30 min prior to restraint stress (4 h/day). Hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis activation in response to repeated restraint stress was confirmed base on serum corticosterone levels and CRF expression in the hypothalamus. Animals that were pre-treated with BF extract displayed significantly reduced immobility in the FST and increased open-arm exploration in the EPM test in comparison with controls. BF also blocked the increase in TH expression in the locus coeruleus of treated rats that experienced restraint stress. Together, these results demonstrate that BF extract administration prior to restraint stress significantly reduces depression and anxiety-like behaviors, possibly through central adrenergic mechanisms, and they suggest a role for BF extract in the treatment of depression and anxiety disorders.

Superovulation induced by exogenous gonadotropin treatment (PMSG/hCG) increases the number of available oocytes in humans and animals. However, Superovulatory PMSG/hCG treatment is known to affect maternal environment, and these effects may result from PMSG/hCG treatment-induced oxidative stress. 2-Cys peroxiredoxins (2-Cys Prxs) act as antioxidant enzymes that protect cells from oxidative stress induced by various exogenous stimuli. Therefore, the objective of this study was to test the hypothesis that repeated PMSG/hCG treatment induces 2-Cys Prx expression and overoxidation in the reproductive tracts of female mice. Immunohistochemistry and western blotting analyses further demonstrated that, after PMSG/hCG treatment, the protein expression levels of 2-Cys Prxs increased most significantly in the ovaries, while that of Prx1 was most affected by PMSG/hCG stimulation in all tissues of the female reproductive tract. Repeated PMSG/hCG treatment eventually leads to 2-Cys Prxs overoxidation in all reproductive organs of female mice, and the abundance of the 2-Cys Prxs-$SO_{2/3}$ proteins reported here supports the hypothesis that repeated superovulation induces strong oxidative stress and damage to the female reproductive tract. Our data suggest that excessive oxidative stress caused by repeated PMSG/hCG stimulation increases 2-Cys Prxs expression and overoxidation in the female reproductive organs. Intracellular 2-Cys Prx therefore plays an important role in maintaining the reproductive organ environment of female mice upon exogenous gonadotropin treatment.

In this paper, we propose a 3-D finite element (FE) analysis model with combined physical behavior and kinematical impact factors for evaluation of residual stress in multi-impact shot peening. The FE model considers both physical behavior of material and characteristics of kinematical impact. The physical parameters include elastic-plastic FE modeling of shot ball, material damping coefficient, dynamic friction coefficient. The kinematical parameters include impact velocity and diameter of shot ball. Multi-impact FE model consists of 3-D symmetry-cell. We can describe a certain repeated area of peened specimen under equibiaxial residual stress by the cell. With the cell model, we investigate the FE peening coverage, dependency on the impact sequence, effect of repeated cycle. The proposed FE model provides converged and unique solution of surface stress, maximum compressive residual stress and deformation depth at four impact positions. Further, in contrast to the rigid and elastic shots, plastically deformable shot produces residual stresses closer to experimental solutions by X-ray diffraction. Consequently, it is confirmed that the FE model with peening factors and plastic shot is valid for multi-shot peening analyses.
Repeated stress induces corticosterone release. However, it is not clear that stress results in further elevation of corticosterone levels, and the roles of released corticosterone to aggravate stress-related symptoms are also not clear. This study investigated whether neuronal modulation was induced in the amygdala after two kinds of stress, that is, such as electric shock and corticosterone injection. It was found that stress by electric shock decreased the expression of tyrosine hydoroxylase (TH) in the amygdala while the expression of pERK was increased. However, there is no difference in the expressions of TH and pERK in the frontal cortex compared with those of the control group. The level of corticosterone was significantly increased in the serum after stress. To determine the effect of corticosterone on the induction of anxiety and the expression of TH, the rats received corticosterone (20 mg or 40 mg/kg i.p.) for 1 day, 1 week, 2 weeks and 3 weeks, respectively. The spent time in open arms of the EPM (elevated plus maze) test was significantly decreased after 1 week, 2 weeks and 3 weeks. The time spent in open arms of the EPM test after repeated injections of corticosterone was significantly decreased in a dose-dependent manner. The expression of TH in the amygdala was reduced after following repeated corticosterone treatment for 2 weeks and 3 weeks. Collectively, this study suggests that corticosterone has a major role in the induction of anxiety and the modulation of TH expression, at least, in the amygdala.
Stress severely disturbs physiological and mental homeostasis which includes adult neurogenesis in hippocampus. Neurogenesis in hippocampus is a key feature to adapt to environmental changes and highly regulated by multiple cellular signaling pathways. The primary cilium is a cellular organelle, which acts as a signaling center during development and neurogenesis in adult mice. However, it is not clear how the primary cilia are involved in the process of restraint (RST) stress response. Using a mouse model, we examined the role of primary cilia in repeated and acute RST stress response. Interestingly, RST stress increased the number of ciliated cells in the adult hippocampal dentate gyrus (DG). In our RST model, cell proliferation in the DG also increased in a time-dependent manner. Moreover, the analysis of ciliated cells in the hippocampal DG with cell type markers indicated that cells that were ciliated in response to acute RST stress are neurons. Taken together, these findings suggest that RST stress response is closely associated with an increase in the number of ciliated neurons and leads to an increase in cell proliferation.
In this paper, we analyzed on the characteristics of the stranded wire disconnected by repeated stress. The stranded wires that were used in the experiment are PVC insulated flexible cords(VCTFK: Vinyl Insulated Vinyl Cabtyre Cord Flat-type) of $0.75mm^2,\;1.25mm^2,\;and\;2.0mm^2$. They are used to connect the load in low voltage. The stranded wires disconnected by repeated stress were magnified with optical microscope. Using X-ray, the disconnected wire were photo-graphed. we compared mechanical characteristics of the stranded wire between disconnected tendency and allowable current. On the mechanical strength of vinyl cap tire ellipse type cords under bending stress, VCTFK of $1.25mm^2$ was the strongest of them. When it was bent $826.3\pm7$ times, it appeared the disconnected tendency that element wires of VCTFK of $1.25mm^2$ are more about 1.67 times than element wires of VCTFK of $0.75mm^2$. In mechanical strength, VCTFK of $1.25mm^2$ is higher about 1.7 times than VCTFK of $0.75mm^2$. Therefore, we found out that mechanical strength was higher, when the wire had a lot of element wires. In comparison with bending stress, VCTFK of $1.25mm^2$ is the strongest among samples, and it is the most useful in wires of movable type.

Fouling is "a major unsolved" area in heat transfer research. Currently, fouling researches are performed in every directions-fundamental aspects, modeling and cumulating experimental data. In this study, an attempt was made to extend the knowledge in enhanced tube fouling. The Kern-Seaton fouling model which was originally proposed for smooth tube fouling was extended to repeated rib tubes. Key parameters-mass transfer coefficient and wall shear stress-were modeled for repeated rib tubes. Some critical points related with the enhanced tube fouling-uncertainties in the mass transfer rate, wall shear stress modeling, deformation of roughness shape during fouling-were discussed, and some quantitative evaluations were made.
Wear is affected by numerous factors-contact load, sliding velocity and distance, friction coefficient, material properties and environmental conditions. Among these wear factors, surface hardness is one of very important factors to determine wear. But surface hardness is varied by work hardening during repeated sliding contact. In this reason wear rate is increased or decreased with varying surface hardness, and transition of wear mechanism is happened. In this study, the surface hardening by accumulating residual stress was analyzed by considering the repeated sliding Hertzian contact model. The results showed that surface hardness was increased with increasing contact load, friction coefficient and contact number. And the depth of hardening layer, plastic layer and elastic layer depended upon contact load and number, but they didn't depend upon friction coefficient. The predicted surface hardness was about 1.5-1.8 times as hard as the material.

In this study, it is attempted to examine (1) the residual deformation and elastic deformation induced from the repeated loads (up to the maximum of 100,000 times) on fully compacted soil specimen, the relation between stress and strain by performing the unconfined compressive test, after repeated loads and (2) the effect of water content, dry density, number of cycle, repeated loads, etc. on the effect of the stress-strain relation. The rate of deformation caused by repeated loads greatly depends on to the condition whether the water content is above or below the plastic limit. It is possible to estimate the initial tangent modulus of soil by means of modulus of elastic deformation obtained by putting repeated loads on the clay soil.
Mouthguards were used to protect boxers from lip lacerations and other soft tissue injuries in the late 19th century. Now they are used various parts of dental treatment, which are sports protective aid, bleaching tray, orthodontic retainer, implant insertion guide tray, splint and so on. Repeated dislodgement of Class V restoration due to habitual clenching stress should be restored with stress control. Mouthguard can be used as stress relief device. This case describes methods that can relieve occlusal force to teeth by using mouthguard. Satisfactory results can be obtained by using mouthguard for retention of repeated dislodgement Class V restorations. If patients suffered from repeated restorations of Class V due to clenching, mouthguard can be used additional device to relieve the occlusal stress in conservative dentistry.
