  • Due on failures of communication nodes for the wireless and wired networks, mobile agents may be blocked even if there is available service in the networks. To solve it, we propose migration policy with reordering of the paths to guarantee the migration of mobile agents and the paper will provide the extension with the autonomous migration of mobile agents.

  • Recently developed compilers perform some optimizations in order to speed up the execution time of source program. These optimizations require the reordering of the sequence of program statements. This reordering does not give any problems in a single-threaded program. However, the reordering gives some significant errors in a multi-threaded program. State-of-the-art model checkers such as JavaPathfinder do not consider the reordering resulted in the optimization step in a compiler since they just consider a single memory model. In this paper, we develop a new verification tool to verify Java source program based on Java Memory Model. And our tool is capable of handling the reordering in verifying Java programs. As a result, our tool finds an error in the test program which is not revealed with the traditional model checker JavaPathFinder.

  • Multipath TCP (MPTCP), which is a layer 4 protocol that can get the reliability and the efficiency of the transmission by using multipath transfer, was standardized by the IETF. MPTCP provides superior performance when compared to a single TCP when used in a homogeneous network with similar network characteristics. However, MPTCP degrades performance when used in heterogeneous networks with different network characteristics. In this paper, we propose 'Delay-alerted path-blocking scheduler'. It measures the delay of each path and blocks the path with a long delay to reduce the order of packets in the receive buffer. If the duplicated packet is sent to the blocked path to measure the delay and the congestion on the blocking path is reduced, the blocked path is unblocked. For performance analysis, the proposed scheduler was implemented in the Linux kernel and improved performance was obtained in the test bed. We also confirmed that the proposed scheduler reduces the degradation of MPTCP performance in real wireless networks with heterogeneous path characteristics.

  • This paper presents BIST (Built-in self-test) techniques for detection of path delay faults in digital circuits. In the proosed BIST schemes, the shift registers make possible to concurrently generate and compact the latched test data. Therefore the test time is reduced efficiently. By reordering the elements of th shifte register based on the information of the hamming distance of each memory elements in CUt, it is possible to increase the number of path delay faults detected robustly/non-robustly. Experimental results for ISCAS'89 benchmark circuits show the efficiency of the proposed BIST techniques.

  • In order to improve the Quality-of-Service (QoS) of latency sensitive applications in next-generation cellular networks, multi-path is adopted to transmit packet stream in real-time to achieve high-quality video transmission in heterogeneous wireless networks. However, multi-path also introduces two important challenges: out-of-order issue and reordering delay. In this paper, we propose a new architecture based on Software Defined Network (SDN) for flow aggregation and flow splitting, and then design a Multiple Access Radio Scheduling (MARS) scheme based on relative Round-Trip Time (RTT) measurement. The QoS metrics including end-to-end delay, throughput and the packet out-of-order problem at the receiver have been investigated using the extensive simulation experiments. The performance results show that this SDN architecture coupled with the proposed MARS scheme can reduce the end-to-end delay and the reordering delay time caused by packet out-of-order as well as achieve a better throughput than the existing SMOS and Round-Robin algorithms.

  • In one of the most impacting schemes proposed to address the TCP throughput problem over network coding, the network coding layer sends an acknowledgement if an innovative linear combination is received, even when a new packet is not decoded. Although this scheme is very effective, its implementation requires a limit on the coding window size. This limitation causes low TCP throughput in the presence of packet reordering. We argue that a TCP variant detecting a packet loss relying only on timers is effective in dealing with the packet reordering problem in network coding environments as well. Also we propose a new network coding layer to support such a TCP variant. Simulation results for a 2-path environment show that our proposed scheme improves TCP throughput by 19%.

  • The Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) is a multi-hop wireless network consisting of mesh routers and clients, where the mesh routers have minimal mobility and form the backbone. The WMN is primarily designed to access outer network to mesh clients through backhaul gateways. As traffic converges on the gateways, traffic hotspots are likely to form in the neighborhood of the gateways. In this paper, we propose Congestion Aware Multi-path Routing (CAMR) protocol to tackle this problem. Upon congestion, CAMR divides the clients under a mesh STA into two groups and returns a different path for each group. The CAMR protocol triggers multi-path routing in such a manner that the packet reordering problem is avoided. Through simulations, we show that CAMR improves the performance of the WMN in terms of throughput, delay and packet drop ratio.

  • To address the bottleneck problem in data center networks, there have been several proposals for network architectures providing high path-diversity. In devising new schemes to utilize multiple paths, one must consider the effects on TCP performance because packet reordering can make TCP perform poorly. Therefore most schemes prevent packet reordering by sending packets through one of multiple available paths. In this study we show that packet reordering does not occur severely enough to have a significant impact on TCP performance when scattering packets through all available paths between a pair of hosts in Fat-Tree. Simulation results imply that it is possible to find a low-cost solution to the TCP performance problem for Fat-Tree-like topologies.

  • The modern mobile devices are typically equipped with multiple network interfaces, e.g., 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, but the current implementation of TCP can support only a single path at the same time. The Multipath TCP (MPTCP) leverages the multipath feature and provides (i) robust connection by utilizing another interface if the current connection is lost and (ii) higher throughput than single path TCP by simultaneously leveraging multiple network paths. However, if the performance between the multiple paths are significantly diverse, the receiver may have to wait for packets from the slower path, causing reordering and buffering problems. To solve this problem, previous MPTCP schedulers mainly focused on predicting the latency of the path beforehand. Recent studies, however, have shown that the path latency varies by a large margin over time, thus the MPTCP scheduler may wrongly predict the path latency, causing performance degradation. In this paper, we propose a new MPTCP scheduler called, choose fastest subflow (CFS) scheduler to solve this problem. Rather than predicting the path latency, CFS utilizes the characteristics of these paths to reduce the overall flow completion time by redundantly sending the last part of the flow to both paths. We compare the performance through real testbed experiments that implements CFS. The experimental results on both synthetic packet generation and actual Web page requests, show that CFS consistently outperforms the previous proposals in all cases.

  • The advantages of employing SCTP-based Concurrent Multipath Transfer (CMT) have been demonstrated to be very useful for data delivery over multi-homed wireless networks. However, there is still significant ongoing work addressing some remaining limitations and challenges. The most important concern when applying CMT to data delivery is related to handling packet reordering and buffer blocking. Another concern on this topic is that current sender-based CMT solutions seldom consider balancing the overhead and sharing the load between the sender and receiver. This paper proposes a novel Receiver-driven Cooperation-based Concurrent Multipath Transfer solution (CMT-Rev) with the following aims: (i) to balance overhead and share load between the sender and receiver, by moving some functions including congestion and flow control from the sender onto receiver; (ii) to mitigate the data reordering and buffer blocking problems, by using an adaptive receiver-cooperative path aggregation model, (iii) to adaptively transmit packets over multiple paths according to their receiver-inspired sending rate values, by employing a new receiver-aware data distribution scheduler. Simulation results show that CMT-Rev outperforms the existing CMT solutions in terms of data delivery performance.
