This study describes thermal performance of heating and cooling demonstration system using ETSC(Evacuated tubular solar collector) installed at Seo-gu art center of Kwangju. For demonstration study, a reading room with about $350m^2$ was heated and cooled using that system. The demonstration system was consisted of ETSCs, storage tank, hot water supply tank, subsidiary boiler, and subsidiary tank. From January to March in 2006, demonstration test were performed with 4 control mode to find the optimum control condition for solar thermal system. After experiments and analysis, this study found that solar thermal system of control mode IV was corresponded to 78% for the hot water supply and 49% for space heating.
Solar Photovoltaics (SPV) In India has become an important renewable source of energy particularly for rural and remote areas. The vastness of the country and the requirements of electricity in far-flung villages makes SPV very attractive, with inherent technological advantages providing additional boost. This has been recognized very early by Govt. Of India and Ministry of Non-Conventional Sources of Energy (MNES) has been entrusted with promoting SPV usage in the country. Rural electrification through SPV systems is one of the programmes which is expected to provide fillip to PV industry in the country. PV Industry in India is very well established with capability of solar cell fabrication and module fabrication as well as Balance of System design and fabrication. There several R&D groups in the academic institutions who are involved in improving solar cells efficiency, thin film solar cells and PV instrumentation. Thus, India provides a ready market for large scale utilization of solar energy through SPV technology.

City or Community-scale Energy Management System(CEMS) is used to reduce the total energy consumed in the city by arranging the energy resources efficiently at the planning stage and controlling them economically at the operating stage. Of the operational functions of the CEMS, generation forecasting of renewable energy resources is an essential feature for the effective supply scheduling. This is because it can develop daily operating schedules of controllable generators in the city (e.g. diesel turbine, micro-gas turbine, ESS, CHP and so on) in order to minimize the inflow of the external power supply system, considering the amount of power generated by the uncontrollable renewable energy resources. This paper is written to introduce numerical models for photo-voltaic power generation prediction based on the weather forecasting information. Unlike the conventional methods using the average radiation or average utilization rate, the proposed models are developed for CEMS applications using the realtime weather forecast information provided by the National Weather Service.
UTAC(unglazed transpired air collector) system has unique advantage for space heating and tempering ventilation air over the conventional collector system such as flat plate and vacuum collector. UTAC can improve radiative and convective loss due to nonglazed component and enhanced plate surface configuration. and heating energy and its equivalent green house emission performance can be improved from the use of this like collector in building application. The Option D Calibration simulation approach of IPMVP(International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol) in ESCO businesses has been recommended to use of the calibrated computer modules like these Energy-10. DOE2.1E and TRNSYS(transient system simulation). This study is to develop subroutine type-203 of TRNSYS15.2 program and appraise thermal performance of UTAC. With newely addeded subroutine type-203. 1) Thermal performance of unglazed transpired collector could be possible based on dimensionless variables such as efficiency and heat exchanger effectiveness. and 2) Assessement of energy consists of solar useful and insulation saving for UTAC could be possible.

The necessity of energy utilization using livestock manure has been proposed with the decrease in domestic agricultural land. Livestock manure solid fuel has been investigated as a promising energy resource owing to its convenient storage and use in agricultural and livestock fields. Additional electricity production is possible through the integration of a biomass combustion boiler with the organic Rankine cycle (ORC). In this study, a mathematical system model of the cattle manure solid fuel boiler integrated with the ORC was developed to analyze the components' performance under variable operating conditions. A sensitivity analysis was conducted to confirm the electrical efficiency of the ORC turbine and the applicability of this system. The minimum required waste heat recovery rate was derived considering the system marginal price and levelized cost of electricity of the ORC. The simulation results showed that, in Korea, more than 77.98% of waste heat recovery and utilization in ORC turbines is required to achieve economic feasibility through ORC application.

In this paper, we describe construction of a wind stabilization demo-site and effects of output power control of wind turbines for suppression of ramp rate using ESS (Energy Storage System). It is difficult to control the output power of distributed generator such as wind turbine which of variation is very large. If the large capacity wind farm be interconnected into power system may cause blackout due to Power Quality. For these reasons, the international standards such as Grid-Code is limited to less than 10 [%/min] of renewable energy ramp rate. The case of Korea, government actively conducts propagating large-scale renewable energy for green growth policy, to interconnecting more renewable energy into power system is necessary for stabilization technology. For these reasons, the POSCO consortium has constructed a wind stabilization demo-site that is configured as 500 [kWh] battery energy storage systems can output up to 3 [C-Rate] and two wind turbines rated 750 [kW]. In POSCO consortium, which implements various methods stabilizing output power of wind turbine such as smoothing, section firming and ramp control, we derive the results of long-term demonstration that can be controlled to satisfy to the international standard about ramp rate [%/kW] of wind turbine output power.

With 12 environmental basic facilities (EBF) in Busan, each business place's present situation of the operation of new and renewable energy as well as the feasibility to establish additional systems of utilizing solar energy (photovoltaic power generation system [PPGS] and solar heating system [SHS]) were investigated. Currently, with the environmental basic facilities, the new and renewable energies (such as, waste heat, biogas, PPGS, SHS, and small hydro power) can produce 195 GWh per year as electric power unit. Among the energy sources, except waste heat, biogas (154 GWh/yr) appears as the highest. Next, PPGS is the second most widely used system and produces 5,560 MWh/yr at 11 business places. Through a field survey, it appears that 19 business places of total 27 places at 12 EBFs have good locational conditions and they need an introduction of PPGS. Through it, it is investigated that it would be possible to produce 5,311 MWh/yr and to reduce $2,348tCO_2/yr$. And, it is identified that SHS can be additionally introduced in only 4 EBFs. This can reduce energy cost as much as one ten million won/yr and green-house gas as much as $28tCO_2/yr$. A cost-benefic analysis shows that the use of governmental support or private investment can be the most efficient way, when PPGS and SHS are introduced in EBFs.

Recently, the fossil energy and its related environmental problems (increase in PPM of $CO_2$) have been increased. Therefore, the interests on new and renewable energy have been increased as the one of the future industrial leading items. Among the renewable energy, the PV (Photo-Volatic) systems has particular merit at the electricity can be directly acquired from the sun. Usually in PV systems, the ambient temperature and air velocity have strongly related on the effect of power generation of PV panel. So the purpose of this study is to clarify relationships between power generation of PV panel and outer environmental factors like temperature and air velocity. And these types of applications using natural energy are strongly affected by the climate conditions. Therefore the data of this study were re-arranged in terms of non-dimensional correlations.

Tidal current power system is one of ocean renewable energies that can minimize the environmental impact with many advantages compared to other energy sources. Not like others, the produced energy can be precisely predicted without weather conditions and also the operation rate is very high. To convert the current into power, the first device encountered to the incoming flow is the rotor that can transform into rotational energy. The performance of rotor can be determined by various design parameters including numbers of blade, sectional shape, diameter, and etc. The stream lines near the rotating rotor is very complex and the interference effects around the system is also difficult to predict. The paper introduces the experiment of rotor performance and also the fundamental study on the characteristics of three different rotors and flow near the rotor by CFD.
