신재생에너지 자원지도의 비즈니스 모델 개발 (Business Model of Renewable Energy Resource Map)

  • Geographic information system (GIS) based renewable energy resource map including potential analysis can play a crucial role not only to develop the national plan for renewable energy deployment but also to make strategic investment decision in the private sector. Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER) has been developing domestic maps about several resources such as solar, wind, hydro, biomass, and geothermal, as well as conducting research on methodologies for potential analysis. Furthermore, the institute is trying to transfer related technologies and know-how to foreign countries, recently. In this context, the main purpose of this study is to introduce the business model of renewable energy resource map. From the value chain analysis, we focus on the government-side market in foreign countries, such as the development of the national level renewable energy resource map and the support of the national renewable energy plan. For about 180 countries, we segment the customers according to the consideration of economic capacity, renewable energy resource capacity, existence of renewable resource map, current portion of renewable energy facility capacity, and renewable energy policies, and we conclude that the target customers are non-Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (non-OECD) countries or some OECD countries, their per capita GDP are under the average among OECD countries, that do not have renewable resource map yet. We segment the target customers into four groups, and suggest different strategies for market positioning and financing strategy based on Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats (SWOT) analysis. This study can help to develop the business strategy about the development of renewable energy resource map in foreign countries.

  • 신재생에너지자원 사용의 확대와 더불어 그 안전성에도 관심이 고조되고 있다. 이에 따라 신재생에너지의 개발과 보급을 위한 데이터를 축적하고 관리, 활용할 수 있는 체계가 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 신재생에너지자원을 보다 효율적으로 활용하기 위한 WebGIS 기반의 시스템을 개발한다. 공간 데이터의 관리, 공간정보 서비스 인프라를 구축하기 위해서 기 구축된 시스템에 OGC의 표준을 적용하고, 평가를 위한 공간정보를 연계하여 신재생에너지자원의 개발 및 보급을 위한 경제성평가 모듈의 신뢰성을 향상시켰다. 이를 통해 신재생에너지 자원평가, 최적지 선정 및 잠재량 등에 대한 정밀한 분석 및 평가가 가능하며, Web기반의 시스템 개발을 통해 신재생에너지 정보의 활용성 증대, 신재생에너지에 대한 인식제고를 위한 도구로써 활용될 수 있다.

낙동강수계의 소수력자원 특성 분석 (Analysis of Small Hydropower Resource Characteristics for Nakdong River System)

  • Small hydropower is one of the many types of new and renewable energy, which is planning to develop, as the country is abundant in endowed resources. In order to fully utilize small hydropower resources, there is a need for greater precision in quantifying small hydropower resources and establish an environment in which energy sources can be discovered using the small hydropower resource management system. This study has given greater precision to calculate annual electricity generation and capacity of small hydropower plants of Nakdong river system by inquiring into average annual rainfall, basin area and runoff coefficient, which is anticipated to promote small hydropower resources utilization. Small hydropower resource management system was also established by additionally providing base information on quantified small hydropower resources and analysis function and small hydropower generator status, rivers, basin, rainfall gauging station, water level gauging station etc.. Small hydropower resource management system can be used gather basic information for positive applications of small hydropower energy nationwide.

Improvement of Variable Renewable Energy Penetration of Stand-Alone Microgrid Hosting Capacity by Using Energy-Storage-System Based on Power Sensitivity

  • Recently, the demand for high penetration of variable renewable energy (VRE) penetration in a power system is increased. In consequence, distribution systems including microgrids confront the increased installation of VRE-based distributed generation. Despite of the high demand of VRE-based distributed generation in a distribution system, the installation of photovoltaic (PV) system in a distribution system has been restricted by various problems. In other words, the hosting capacity for high VRE penetration in a distribution system is limited. This paper analyzes the improvements of hosting capacity VRE penetration of stand-alone microgrid (SAMG) with energy storage system (ESS) by considering virtual-slack (VS) control based on power sensitivity. With the pre-defined power sensitivity, the ESS operates as virtual slack in the SAMG by controlling its bus voltage and phase angle indirectly. Therefore, the ESS enables the increase of VRE penetration in the SAMG. The proposed VS control is realized by analyzing the ESS as a virtual slack in power flow analysis based on power sensitivity. Then its validity is demonstrated with the case study on the SAMG in South Korea with practical data.

BESS 기반 마이크로그리드 운영전략 (Operational Strategy for a BESS-based Microgrid)

  • Small islands are quite adequate places where microgrid system with renewable sources can replace diesel engines as operation costs of diesel engine in most small islands are very high. To get the large amount of renewable energy, the microgrid system has very large capacity of renewable sources. The system with large capacity of renewable sources can meet the case when supplied energy is greater than the load and the fluctuation of source output is very large. The battery energy storage system can be a solution to stabilize the system with large capacity of renewable sources. In this case, BESS can be utilized as a master source for the synchronous operation of all sources including diesel engine, wind turbine and PV. The diesel generators can be used as a backup in case the BESS SOC goes below a certain level. In this paper, we suggest a novel unit commitment of diesel generators and operation schedule of pump for water supply service with the information of wind forecast, PV forecast, and load forecast. The proposed methods has been implemented and tested at the test bed in Gasa-Island.

Single-Inductor, Multiple-Input-Single-Output Converter Based Energy Mixer for Power Packet Distribution System

  • Power packet (PP) distribution system distributes power to different loads that share the same distribution cable in a packetized form. When compared with conventional power systems, a PP distribution system (PPDS) can reduce standby power, eliminate Point-of-Load (PoL) power conversion, and intelligently control the load demand from the source side. Due to the absence of PoL conversion, when multiple power sources at different voltage levels and conditioning requirements jointly send power to various loads at different voltage ratings, the generated voltage has an irregular shape. A large filter at each of the load sides is required to reduce such a large voltage ripple. In this paper, a single-inductor, multiple-input-single-output converter structure based multiple-energy-source mixer is proposed. It combines PP generation, maximum power point tracking (MPPT) of renewable energy sources (RESs) and filtering at the source side. To demonstrate the possible renewable energy integration, a PV panel is used as a power source together with other constant voltage sources. The PV power is approximately tracked using the constant voltage method and it is used for each of the PP generations. The proposed PP distribution system is experimentally verified and it is shown that a conventional PI controller is sufficient for stable system operation.

  • Purpose The recent concern over environmental problems such as greenhouse gas emission and fine dust contributes increasing interest in renewable energies. However the intrinsic characteristics of renewable energies, intermittent and stochastic generation, might cause serious problems to the stability and controllability of power grid. Therefore countermeasures such as virtual power plant (VPP) must be prepared in advance of the spread of uncontrollable distributed renewable energy resources to be one of major energy sources. Design/methodology/approach This study deals with the design concept of the VPP platform. we proposed as a technology solution for achieving the stability of power grid by guaranteeing a single power profile combining multiple distributed power sources with ICT. The core characteristics of VPP should be able to participate in the grid operation by responding to operation instructions from the system operator, KPX, as well as the wholesale electricity market. Findings Therefore this study includes energy storage device(ESS) as a controllable component as well as renewable energy resources such as photovoltaic and wind power generation. Based on this configuration, we discussed core element technologies of VPP and protype design of VPP solution platform according to system requirements. In the proposed solution platform, UX design for the integrated control center and brokerage system were included as well as ancillary service function to respond to KPX's operation instruction with utilizing the capability of ESS. In addition, a simulator was suggested to verify the VPP operations.

Established system of GIS small hydropower energy can be used gather basic information for positive applications of small hydropower energy nationwide.
