The production of hyper-realistic digital rendering images has been available due to radical improvements of recent digital rendering and CGI (Computer-Generated Imagery) software technologies. The photorealism of digital architectural rendering images requires further studies and discussions in that architectural visualization becomes a foundation of other fields using digital rendering technology, such as movies, games, and VR industry. The principles for achieving photorealism on digital architectural rendering images were re-defined and detailed elements were analyzed through theoretical analysis of the former studies. Four principles were drawn from the architectural rendering images produced by newly-developed technologies: physically-accurate lighting calculations, accurate object geometry representation, realistic material and texture, and characteristics of photography. The sub-elements of those four principles are categorized into either essential or selective for photorealistic imagery and the randomness of the selective elements could explain the variety of photorealistic architectural rendering styles.
Since 2005, the production of feature 3D animation has been growing up worldwide and technology of hardware and software has been advanced fully enough to get over the limitation of visual expression, so that rendering weight of the whole work process is getting more important. A final file in the state right before rendering increases. the data size gets bigger. Therefore, if such final file is rendered as it is, the production schedule may not be met. For, some needless time shall be spent to call and save a high-capacity file in amendment work and to execute the rendering entirely again in addition to amendment. In this study, Maya API [1]was used to study the efficient information amendment method of extracting the rendering layers' files in order to develop a tool that executes rendering by applying such method. As the result, compliance to production schedule that is important in animation production can be done through the independent rendering tool based layer rendering that can maximize the efficiency of amendment work.
We present a novel GPU-based ray-casting algorithm for volume rendering of unstructured grid data. Our volume rendering system uses a ray-casting method that guarantees accurate rendering results. We also employ the per-pixel intersection list concept in the Bunyk algorithm to guarantee an accurate result for non-convex meshes. For efficient memory access for the lists on the GPU, we represent the intersection lists for all faces as an array with our novel construction algorithm. With the intersection lists, we perform ray-casting on a GPU, and a GPU thread handles each ray. To increase ray-coherency in a thread block and improve memory access efficiency, we extend a prior image-tile-based work distribution method to fit modern GPU architectures. We also show that a prior approach using a per-thread local buffer to reduce redundant computation is not appropriate for modern GPU architectures. Instead, we take an on-demand calculation strategy that achieves better performance even though it allows duplicate computations. We applied our method to three unstructured grid datasets with different characteristics. With a GPU, our method achieved up to 36.5 times higher performance for the ray-casting process and 19.7 times higher performance for the whole volume rendering process compared with the Bunyk algorithm using a CPU core. Also, our approach showed up to 8.2 times higher performance than a GPU-based cell projection method while generating more accurate rendering results. These results demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of our method.
In this paper, we describe an implementation technique that extends the classification and shading capabilities offered by previously reported hardware-assisted volume rendering algorithms. In designing our rendering scheme, we exploited the programmable shader technology supported by the latest consumer PC graphics hardware. Our direct volume rendering technique enables to simultaneously display up to four materials, and to dynamically control gradient magnitude to emphasize or de-emphasize surface boundaries. It can easily create lighting effects such as light source attenuation, depth cueing, and multiple light sources that were often difficult to realize in previous hardware-assisted volume rendering.
White organic LED spectrum for lighting and displaying should be designed for high luminous efficiency as well as good chromaticity coordinate, pleasant correlated color temperature and color rendering. A program based on Matlab was made to make these calculations convenient. The chromaticity coordinate and luminous efficiency was calculated according to the CIE 1931 colorimetric system, while the correlated color temperature(CCT) was calculated based on CIE 1960 UCS diagram. The color rendering characteristics were evaluated according to the CIE Color Rendering Index (CRI), using Ra, Ri and ${\bigtriangleup}E$ from the 14 color samples defined in CIE13.3.
The recent 3D visualization such as volume rendering, iso-surface rendering or stream line visualization gives more understanding about structures or distribution of data in a space and, moreover, the real-time rendering of a scene enables the animation of time-series data. Because the meteorological data is frequently formed as multi-variables, 3-dimensional and time-series data, the spatial analysis, time-series analysis, vector display, and animation techniques can do important roles to get more understanding about data. In this research, our aim is to develop the 3-dimensional visualization techniques for meteorological data in the PC environment by using IDL. The visualization technology from :his research will be used as basic technology not only for the deeper understanding and the more exact prediction about meteorological environments but also for the scientific and spatial data visualization research in any field from which three-dimensional data comes out such as oceanography, earth science, or aeronautical engineering.
This paper presents a robotic system that provides telepresence to the visually impaired by combining real-time haptic rendering with multi-modal interaction. A virtual-proxy based haptic rendering process using a RGB-D sensor is developed and integrated into a unified framework for control and feedback for the telepresence robot. We discuss the challenging problem of presenting environmental perception to a user with visual impairments and our solution for multi-modal interaction. We also explain the experimental design and protocols, and results with human subjects with and without visual impairments. Discussion on the performance of our system and our future goals are presented toward the end.

In this paper, we present a new method for early depth test for a 3D rendering engine. We add a filter stage to the rasterizer in the 3D rendering engine, in an attempt to identify and avoid the occluded pixels. This filtering block determines if a pixel is hidden by a certain plane. If a pixel is hidden by the plane, it can be removed. The simulation results show that the filter reduces the number of pixels to the next stage up to 71.7%. As a result, 67% of memory bandwidth is saved with simple extra hardware.

3D content rendering is one of the important factors that give a sense of realism when creating content, and this process takes a lot of time. In this paper, we proposed a method to improve rendering performance by reducing the vast amount of 3D data in the web environment, and conducted a performance test using DEM and 3D model elevation data. As a result of the experiment, the digital elevation model showed faster performance than the Blender-based 3D modeling, but when the screen was moved using OrbitControl, the fps dropped momentarily. In the case of Terrain, if the range is limited to a speed that maintains 24 to 60 fps using frustum culling and LOD techniques, it is considered that a higher quality map can be produced than GeoTIFF.
