  • In this paper, we propose a new disparity estimation method called object based block matching algorithm(OBMA) for stereoscopic images which is able to reduce the blocking artifact. In the proposed algorithm, edge information of the given image is first extracted and then we estimate the disparity of each segmented object to remove the blocking artifact. In the experimental results, it is proven that the proposed algorithm has about the same performance as the old BMA algorithm while it achieves much better subjective quality.

  • Image signal is corrupted by various noises in image processing, many studies are being accomplished to restore those images. In this paper, we proposed a cascade filter algorithm for removing random valued impulse noise. The algorithm consists two steps that noise detection and noise elimination. Variance of filtering mask and center pixel variance are calculated for noise detection, and the noise pixel is replaced by estimated value which first apply switching self adaptive weighted median filter and finally processed by modified weight filter. Considering the proposed algorithm only remove noise and preserve the uncorrupted information that the algorithm can not only remove noise well but also preserve edge.

  • As the use frequency of electronic communication equipment increases due to the influence of the 4th industrial revolution, the importance of image and signal processing is increasing. However, due to noise caused by various causes, the reliability of the equipment is degraded and malfunctions are caused. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to remove AWGN in most environments. The existing methods show relatively poor performance due to the smoothing phenomenon at the boundary of the image. To overcome this problem, we proposed a filter algorithm that adapts to the boundary region using the Sobel edge detection to remove the noise. And using the PSNR compared with traditional methods, such as to demonstrate the performance of the proposed algorithm.

  • Digital image find own level core media in multimedia as image restoration technology fields, which remove degradation factor for image enhancement, have been growing. Linear space-invariant image restoration algorithm often introduce ringing artifacts near sharp intensity transition areas. This paper presents a new adaptive post-filtering algorithm for reducing ringing artifact. The proposed method extracts an edge map of the image using wavelet transform Based on the edge information, ringing artifacts are detected, and removed by an adaptive bilateral filter. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can efficiently remove ringing artifacts with edge preservation.

  • In this paper, we propose a new method for detection moving object contour using spatial and temporal edge. In general, contour pixels of the moving object are likely present around pixels with high gradient value along the time axis and the spatial axis. Therefore, we can detect the contour of the moving objects by finding pixels which have high gradient value in the time axis and spatial axis. In this paper, we introduce a new computation method, termed as temporal edge, to compute an gradient value along the time axis for any pixel on an image. The temporal edge can be computed using two input gray images at time t and t-2 using the Sobel operator. Temporal edge is utilized to detect a candidate region of the moving object contour and then the detected candidate region is used to extract spatial edge information. The final contour of the moving object is detected using the combination of these two edge information, which are temporal edge and spatial edge, and then the post processing such as a morphological operation and a background edge removing procedure are applied to remove noise regions. The complexity of the proposed method is very low because it dose not use any background scene and high complex operation, therefore it can be applied to real-time applications. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms the conventional contour extraction methods in term of processing effort and a ghost effect which is occurred in the case of entropy method.

  • Image denoising is a key issue in all image processing researches. Generally, the quality of an image could be corrupted by a lot of noise due to the undesired conditions of image acquisition phase or during the transmission. Many approaches to image restoration are aimed at removing either Gaussian or impulse noise. Nevertheless, it is possible to find them operating on the same image, which is called mixed noise and it produces a hard damage. In this paper, we proposed noise type classification method and a mixed nonlinear filter for mixed noise suppression. The proposed filtering scheme applies a modified adaptive switching median filter to impulse noise suppression and an efficient nonlinear filer was carried out to remove Gaussian noise. The simulation results based on Matlab show that the proposed method can remove mixed Gaussian and impulse noise efficiently and it can preserve the integrity of edge and keep the detailed information.

  • A recursive tree is constructed by starting with a root node and repeatedly adjoining new nodes to one node of the tree already constructed. Such a tree can represent, for example, the heirarchy of a workforce of a company that grows via recruiting. At times of economic depression, the company may decide to layoff participants, and in some cases it is a fair policy to relieve the last senior worker (most recent entry in the tree). If we remove an edge from such a tree then it falls into two subtrees one of which contains the most recent entry. If we continue to remove edges from the successively smaller subtrees that contain the most recent entry, we eventually isolate the most recent entry. We consider how many randomly selected edges must be removed in average before isolating the most recent entry by this procedure.

  • This paper presents a new edge-preserving algorithm and its VLSI architecture for block artifact reduction. Unlike previous approaches using block classification, our algorithm utilizes pixel classification to categorize each pixel into one of two classes, namely smooth region and edge region, which are described by the edge-preserving maps. Based on these maps, a two-step adaptive filter which includes offset filtering and edge-preserving filtering is used to remove block artifacts. A pipelined VLSI architecture of the proposed deblocking algorithm for HD video processing is also presented in this paper. A memory-reduced architecture for a block buffer is used to optimize memory usage. The architecture of the proposed deblocking filter is prototyped on FPGA Cyclone II, and then we estimated performance when the filter is synthesized on ANAM 0.25 ${\mu}m$ CMOS cell library using Synopsys Design Compiler. Our experimental results show that our proposed algorithm effectively reduces block artifacts while preserving the details.

  • Image magnification is among the basic image processing operations. The most commonly used technique for image magnification are based on interpolation method(such as nearest neighbor, bilinear and cubic interpolation). However, the magnified images produced by the techniques that often appear a variety of undesirable image artifacts such as 'blocking' and 'blurring' or too takes the processing time into the several processing for image magnification. In this paper, we propose image magnification method which uses input image's sub-band information such as edge information to enhance the image magnification method. We use the whole image and not use the one's neighborhood pixels to detect the edge information of the image that isn't occurred the blocking phenomenon. And then we emphasized edge information to remove the blurring phenomenon which incited of edge information. Our method, which improves the performance of the traditional image magnification methods in the processing time, is presented. Experiment results show that the proposed method solves the drawbacks of the image magnification such as blocking and blurring phenomenon, and has a higher PSNR and Correlation than the traditional methods.

  • Digital image processing is widely used in various fields including the military, medical, image recognition system, robot and commercial sectors. But in the process of acquiring and transmitting digital images, noise is generated by various external causes. There are various types of general noise depending on the cause and form, but AWGN and impulse noise is one of the leading methods. Removing noise during image processing is essential to the pre-treatment process such as segmentation, image recognition and characteristic extraction. As such, this paper suggests an algorithm that distinguishes the non-edge area and edge area using the Canny edge to apply different filters to different areas in order to effectively remove noise from the image. To verify the effectiveness of the suggested algorithm, it was compared against existing methods using zoom images, edge images and PSNR(peak signal to noise ratio).
