The removal rates of gross production and organic matters were investigated in the Lake Paldangho. In 1995 and 1996, soils and litter sarraples were collected and annual mean production and removal rates were calculated. Communities in the Lake Paldangho were Phragrnites communis, Miscanthus sacchariflorus, Typha aegustata and Scirpas tahernaemoutani. Removal constants of aquatic plant communities estimated by the mathematical theoretical models, were 0.826, 0.567, 0.571 and 0.751, respectively. The durations of reaching half of initial organic amounts were 0.839 yeras, 1.221 years, 1.213 years and 0.922 years respectively at the steady state of removal and accumulation for organics For organics, the rapidity of removal were more speedy P. communis, S.tahernaemontani, T. augustata, M sacehariflorus in order. The times needed for 99% removal were 6.051 years, 6.651 years, 8.752 years and 8.811 years, respectively. Key wotds:Gross production, Organic matters, Lake Paldangho, Phragmites communis, Mis-ca ethus sacchariflorus, Typha angustata, Scirpus tahernaemoutani., Removal constants.
The thiophene or furan-containing hexadentate ligands 1, 12-bis (2-theophene )-2,5,8,ll-tetraazadodecane(Thiotrien ㆍ 4HCl) and 1,12-bis (2-furan)-2,5,8,11-tetraazadodecane(Furatrienㆍ4HC1) were synthesized as their tetrahydrochloride salt and characterized by EA, IR, NMR, and Mass spectrum. Their protonation constants (logK$_{nH}$) and stability constants (logK$^{M}_{L}$ for Cd$^{2+}$, Pb$^{2+}$, $Zn^{2+}$ and Cu$^{2+}$ ions were determined in aqueous solution by potentiometry and compared with 1, 12-bis(2-pyridyl)-2,5,8, 11-tetra-azadodecane(Pytrien) of pyridyl-containing ligand. The effect stability constants of ligands and metal ion for removal of heavy metals in aqueous solution were described.
In air stripping of ammonia from the aqueous solution, a new removal model was presented considering the equilibrium principles for the ammonia in aqueous solution and between the aqueous and air phase. The effects of pH, temperature and airflow rate on the ammonia removal were evaluated with the model. In addition, the saturation degree of ammonia in air was defined and used to evaluate the effect of each experimental factor on the removal rate. As pH (8.9 to 11.9) or temperature (20 to 50 oC) was increased, the overall removal rate constants in all cases were appeared to be increased. Our presented model shows that the degrees of saturation were about the same (0.45) in all cases when the airflow condition remains the same. This result indicates that the effect of pH and temperature were directly taken into consideration in the model equation. As the airflow increases, the overall removal rate constants were increased in all cases as expected. However, the saturation degree was exponentially decreased with increasing the airflow rate in the air phase (or above-surface) aeration. In the subsurface aeration the saturation degree remains a constant value of 0.65 even though the airflow rate was increased. These results indicate that the degree of saturation is affected mainly by the turbulence of the aqueous solution and remains the same above a certain airflow rate.
In this study, several series of experiments were conducted to investigate the phosphorus (P) removal process in slag-containing solution using furnace and converter slags. High amount of $OH^-$, $Ca^{2+}$ and alkalinity were discharged from the slags and hydroxyapatites [$Ca_5(PO_4)_3(OH)$] were kept accumulated on the surface of slag. P removal capacity of the slag decreased with the increase of slag dosage. The maximum capacity was found to be 11.25 mg/g at the converter slag. Converter slag adsorbed P more than furnace slag(about four times in average). An experimental study on the effect of pH shows that the percentage removal of P increased upto 30% at the pH range of 56 than that of above pH 8. Langmuir isotherm constants gave a better correlation than Freundlich ones. P removal amount in the presence of $NH^+_4$ was less compared to the one in the absence of $NH^+_4$. Maximum percentage reduction was 23%.
To the removal of hardness materials, we've test the absorptive capacity of main material $Mg^{2+},\;Ca^{2+}$ on the using the activated carbon powder saturated in 0.1M Nitrilotriacetic acid by experimental methods. The absorptive properties of $Ca^{2+}\;and\;Mg^{2+}$ were measured with absorbent quantity and contact time., and investigated the physical properties of overall rate constant and adsorption constant adsorption isotherm, and Langmuir and Freundlich constant. In case of k' adsorption rate constants of $Ca^{2+},\;Mg^{2+}$, was 0.00299, 0.00529 by Bhattahary and Venkobachar equation. $k_{aa}$ was 0.00373, 0.00640 according with adsorption rate constants of Lagergren.
Yoon et $al.^1$ presented an approximate mathmatical model to describe ammonia removal from an experimental batch reactor system with gaseous headspace. The development of the model was initially based on assuming instantaneous equilibrium between ammonia in the aqueous and gas phases. In the model, a "saturation factor, $\beta$" was defined as a constant and used to check whether the equilibrium assumption was appropriate. The authors used the trends established by the estimated $\beta$ values to conclude that the equilibrium assumption was not valid. The authors presented valuable experimental results obtained using a carefully designed system and the model used to analyze the results accounted for the following effects: speciation of ammonia between $NH_3$ and $NH^+_4$ as a function of pH; temperature dependence of the reactions constants; and air flow rate. In this article, an alternative model based on the exact solution of the governing mass-balance differential equations was developed and used to describe ammonia removal without relying on the use of the saturation factor. The modified model was also extended to mathematically describe the pH dependence of the ammonia removal rate, in addition to accounting for the speciation of ammonia, temperature dependence of reactions constants, and air flow rate. The modified model was used to extend the analysis of the original experimental data presented by Yoon et $al.^1$ and the results matched the theory in an excellent manner.
The new tridentate ligands of nitrogen donor atoms N,N-Bis(2-amino-ethyI)-benzyl-amine 2HCI(BABEA. 2HCI) and 2,6-Bis(amino-methyl)-pyridien. 2HCI(BAMP. 2HCI) were synthesized as their dihydrochloride salts and characterized by TA, IR. Mass and NMR spectroscopy. The protonation constants of the ligands and stability constants for Cd$^{2+}$, Pb$^{2+}$, Zn$^{2+}$and Cu$^{2+}$ ions were determined by potentiometric titration in aqueous solutions and compared with those of analogous ligands. The effect stability constants of ligands and metal ions for removal of heavy metals in aqueous solution were described.
This investigation was carried out to reveal the removal rates of Ca, Mg and Na among the constituents of the litters in Phragmites communis Miscanthus sacchariflorus, Typha augustata and Scirpus tabernaemontani ecosystems in the lake Paldangho. The removal constants of Ca, Mg and Na were determined by the mathematical model and the time required to decay to any percentage of each constituent was calculated by using this model. The results obtained in this study can he abstracted as follows; The removal constants of Ca, Mg and Na of the litters were 0.91, 0.86 and 0.71 in Phragmites communis, 0.64, 0.62, and 0.50 in Miscanthus sacchariflorus, 0.66, 0.28, and 0.56 in Typha angustata and 0.40, 0.55 and 0.63 in Scirpus tabernaemontani, respectively. These values of each constituent in Phragmites communis are the highest among the compared species and in each species, Ca among the studied constituent is higher than the others. The half times of Ca, Mg and Na required for the removal or accumulation of the litters on the grassland floor were 0.76, 0.80 and 0.98 years in Phragmites communis, 1.08, 1.12 and 1.39 years in Miscanthus sacehariflorus 1.05, 2.47 and 1.24 years in Typha angustata and 1.73, 1.26 and 1.10 years in Scirpus tabernaemontani, respectively. Key words: Removal constant, Phragmites communis, Miscanthus scchariflorus, Typha angu-stata, Scirpus tabernaemontani Paldangho. Ca, Mg. Na.
Wastewater containing phenol was treated using Pseudomonas sp. B3 in continuous reactor, reaction characteristics and kinetics according to variation of volumetric loading rate in continuous reactor were studied. The removal efficiencies of phenol were more than 99% at the whole range of experiment, and those of COD were 97% at the volumetric loading rate, $0.96kg/m^3{\cdot}d$ and 88% at $3.0kg/m^3{\cdot}d$, respectively. Kinetics constants of $q_m$, $K_s$, Y and $K_d$ were obtained 0.901 l/d, 0.620mg/l, 0.659 and 0.219 l/d, respectively. As compared with to constants of standard activated sludge process, these constants were remarkably different because of toxicity and inhibition of phenol to microbes. And also, kinetics constants of oxygen utilization, a, and b, were shown 0.384 kg $O_2/kg$ phenol and 0.029 l/d.
Hydrochloride acid salts of new $N_2O_2$ tetradentate ligands containing amine and phenol N,N'-bis(2-hydroxybenzyl)-o-phenylenediamine(H-BHP), N,N'-bis(5-bromo-2-hydroxybenzyl)-o-phenylenediamine(Br-BHP), N,N'-bis(5-chloro-2-hydroxybenzyl)-o-phenylene-diamine(Cl-BHP), N,N'-bis(5-methyl-2-hydroxybenzyl)-o-phenylene-diamine (Me-BHP) and N,N'-bis(5-methoxy-2-hydroxybenzyl)-o-phenylenediamine(MeO-BHP) were synthesized. The ligands were characterized by elemental analysis, mass and NMR spectroscopy. The elemental analysis showed that the ligands were isolated as dihydrochloride salt. The potentiometry study revealed that the proton dissociation constants$(logK_n{^H})$ of ligands and stability constants $(logK_{ML})$ of transition and heavy metals complexes. The order of the stability constants of each metal ions for ligands was Br-BHP < Cl-BHP > H-BHP < MeO-BHP < Me-BHP.
