Since most of the existing wastewater treatment options lack the ability to treat micro-contaminants, the increased use of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) and release as human waste have become a serious concern in recent years. Constructed wetlands (CWs) are a low-cost technology for wastewater treatment, however, its performance in term of PPCPs removal has not yet been fully investigated. This study aimed to characterize the removal factors and efficiency of acetaminophen (ACT) removal by CWs. The results revealed the decreased concentrations of ACT with increasing hydraulic retention times (HRT) of 0, 3, 5 days. The contribution of removal factors was found to be varied with initial ACT concentration. At the low ACT concentration (i.e. 1 ppb), plant uptake was the dominant, followed by microbial and photolytic removal. In contrast, at the high ACT concentration (i.e. 100 ppb), microbial and photolytic removal were found as dominant factors. On the other hand, hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$) concentration was found at higher level in the plant shoot than in the root probably due to occurrence of the Fenton reaction resulting in PPCPs removal.

Electrochemical noise signals in many cases exhibit a DC drift that should be removed prior to further data analysis. Polynomial fitting and moving average removal method have been used to remove trends of electrochemical noise (EN) in time domain. The corrosion inhibition of synthesized schiff base N,N'-bis(3,5-dihydroxyacetophenone)-2,2-dimethylpropandiimine on API-5L-X70 steel in hydrochloric acid solutions were used to study the effects of drifts removal methods on noise resistance calculation. Also, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was used to study the corrosion inhibition property of the inhibitor. The results showed that for the calculation of $R_n$, both methods were effective in trend removal and the polynomial with m=4 and MAR with p=40 were in agreement.

The continuous industrial growth increases the volume of pollutants discharged into the water, which induces Cyanobacteria in the receiving bodies. The removal of various cyanobacteria such as Microcystis, Anabaena, and Oscillatoria was explored to analyze their removal characteristics using different chemical and mineral coagulants. The chemical coagulants, including poly aluminium chloride (PACl), Alum, and mineral coagulants such as Loess and Illite, were tested to remove selected cyanobacteria. Results indicated that the removal rate increased with coagulant dosage regardless of the type of coagulant. The removal of selected cyanobacteria using chemical coagulant was found in the order: Microcystis > Anabaena > Oscillatoria. The PACl coagulant showed the most efficient removal rate for Microcystis, Anabaena, Oscillatoria. Removal rate of Microcystis conducted by PACl showed 92% at 100,000 cells/mL and 98.4% at 1,000,000 cells/mL whereas Illite showed lower 70% and Loess showed lower 50% in both 100,000 cells/mL and 1,000,000 cells/mL. The removal rate of Anabaena and Oscillatoria by PACl and Alum was higher 80%, while the other coagulants exhibited lower than 75% at 1,000,000 cells/mL. The removal rate of Oscillatoria by PACl was 80.1%, while the other coagulants exhibited lower than 70% at 1,000,000 cells/mL. Moreover, the mineral coagulants showed better removal efficiency at a higher concentration than low concentration during experiments. Therefore, removing cyanobacteria from water streams can be improved through coagulation by selecting a specific coagulant for a particular type of algae.
Optimum conditions for cholesterol removal in egg yolk were evaluated based on ratio of egg yolk-to-water, crosslinked ${\beta}$-cyclodextrin (${\beta}$-CD) concentration, and mixing temperature, time, and speed by adding crosslinked ${\beta}$-CD treated with adipic acid. Cholesterol removal in egg yolk-water mixture increased with increasing ${\beta}$-CD level (10-25%). About 95% was removed by 25% ${\beta}$-CD at 1:1 ratio of egg yolk-to-water and 800 rpm mixing at $40^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. In recycling study, removal rates were measured using ten times recycled crosslinked ${\beta}$-CD in egg yolk, and 85% cholesterol removal was observed with eight times reuse. These results indicated that over 90% cholesterol was removed at 1:1 ratio of egg yolk-to-water, 20% crosslinked ${\beta}$-CD addition, and 30 min mixing with 600 rpm at $40^{\circ}C$.
With the recent development of computer vision technology, image processing-based mechanical devices are being developed to realize autonomous driving. The camera-taken images of image processing-based machines are invisible due to scattering and absorption of light in foggy conditions. This lowers the object recognition rate and causes malfunction. The safety of the technology is very important because the malfunction of autonomous driving leads to human casualties. In order to increase the stability of the technology, it is necessary to apply an efficient haze removal algorithm to the camera. In the conventional haze removal method, since the haze removal operation is performed regardless of the haze concentration of the input image, excessive haze is removed and the quality of the resulting image is deteriorated. In this paper, we propose an automatic haze removal method that removes haze according to the haze density of the input image by applying Ngo's Haziness Degree Evaluator (HDE) to Kim's haze removal algorithm using Hazy Particle Map. The proposed haze removal method removes the haze according to the haze concentration of the input image, thereby preventing the quality degradation of the input image that does not require haze removal and solving the problem of excessive haze removal. The superiority of the proposed haze removal method is verified through qualitative and quantitative evaluation.
An electrochemical oxidation process was applied to remove cyanide (CN-) from real plating wastewater. CN- removal efficiencies were investigated under various operating factors: current density and electrolyte concentration. Electrolyte concentration positively affected the removal of both CN- and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD). As the electrolyte concentration increased from 302 to 2,077 mg Cl-/L, removal efficiency of CN- and COD increased from 49.07% to 98.30% and from 23.53% to 49.50%, respectively, at 10 mA/㎠. Current density affected the removal efficiency in a different way. As current density increased at a fixed electrolyte concentration, CN- removal efficiency increased while COD removal efficiency decreased, this is probably due to lowered current efficiency caused by water electrolysis.
This study was carried out to determine the optimum conditions for cholesterol removal from homogenized milk by treatment with saponin using a response surface methodology (RSM). The effects of temperature, reaction time, and amounts of celite or saponin added on cholesterol removal from milk were investigated. The level of cholesterol removal from milk increased with saponin concentration and varied from 57.4 to 73.3%. The optimum reaction time, amount of celite addition determined by a partial differentiation of the model equation, and amount of saponin addition were 30min, 0.95% and 1.5%, respectively. Under these conditions, the predicted cholesterol removal by RSM was estimated to be 73.4%. The experimental removal value was 73.7%. Thus, there was no appreciable difference between the experimental value and the predicted value based on RSM.
This study was carried out to optimize cholesterol removal in whole egg using crosslinked ${\beta}$-cyclodextrin (${\beta}$-CD) and to recycle the ${\beta}$-CD. Various factors for optimizing conditions were concentration of the ${\beta}$-CD, mixing temperature, mixing time, mixing speed and centrifugal speed. In the result of this study, the optimum conditions of cholesterol removal were 25% crosslinked ${\beta}$-CD, $40^{\circ}C$ mixing temperature, 30 min mixing time, 1,200 rpm mixing speed and $2,810{\times}g$ centrifugal speed. The recycling was repeated five times. The cholesterol removal was 92.76% when treated with the optimum conditions. After determining the optimum conditions, the recyclable yields of the crosslinked ${\beta}$-CD ranged from 86.66% to 87.60% in the recycling and the percentage of cholesterol removal was over 80% until third recycling. However, the cholesterol removal efficiency was decreased when the number of repeated recycling was increased. Based on the result of this study, it was concluded that the crosslinked ${\beta}$-CD was efficient for cholesterol removal in whole egg, and recycling is possible for only limited repeating times due to the interaction of the ${\beta}$-CD and egg protein.
SOx and NOx are known major precursors of acid rain and thus the abatement of their emissions is a major target in air pollution control. To obtain basic data on the removal process of simultaneous $SO_2/NO$, the optimal reaction condition and the composition of reaction solution for simultaneous removal of $SO_2/NO$, ware investigated using a bubble column reactor. Pilot scrubber was consisted of scrubber, filter and control box. Dust removal rate was 83, 92, and 97% with catalyst flux of 0.5, 0.8, 1.5 L/min, respectively Average dust removal efficiency with a kind of nozzle was about 94 and 90% in STS FF6.5 (5/8in.) and 14 of P.P W(1.0in.), respectively Dust and $SO_2$ were removed more than 98-96% regardless of reactor number. In the case of NO gas, removal yield of 83.3% was achieved after 48 hours in 1 stage, also removal yield of 95.7% was reached in 2 stages. In tile case of application of STS (5/8 in.) and P.P (1.0 in.) as used fill packing, removal efficiency was reached higher than 98% without related to of kind of fill packing.

The paint removal and recoating are the very important process in airplane maintenance. The traditional technology is to use the chemical way corroding the paint with paint remover. For changing the defects, corrosion & pollution & manual working, of the traditional technology, the physical process which removes the paint of airplane with 250MPa/250kW ultra-high pressure rotary water jetting though the surface cleaner installed on the six axes robot is studied. The paint layer of airplane is very thin and close. The contradiction of water jetting paint removal is to remove the paint layer wholly and not damage the surface of airplane. In order to solve the contradiction, the best working condition must be reached through tests. The paint removal efficiency with ultra-high pressure and move speed of not damaged to the surface. The move speed of this test is about 2m/min, and the paint removal efficiency is about $30{\sim}40m^2/h$, and the paint removal active area is 85-90%. No-repeat and no-omit are the base requests of the robot program. The physical paint removal technology will be applied in airplane maintenance, and will face the safety detection of application permission.
