The objectives of the paper are to evaluate cell based pollutant loadings for different storm events, to monitor the hydrology and water quality of the Baran HP#6 watershed, and to validate AGNPS with the field data. Simplification was made to AGNPS in estimating storm erosivity factors from a triangular rainfall distribution. GIS-AGNPS interface model consists of three subsystems; the input data processor based on a geographic information system. the models. and the post processor Land use patten at the tested watershed was classified from the Landsat TM data using the artificial neural network model that adopts an error back propagation algorithm. AGNPS model parameters were obtained from the GIS databases, and additional parameters calibrated with field data. It was then tested with ungauged conditions. The simulated runoff was reasonably in good agreement as compared with the observed data. And simulated water quality parameters appear to be reasonably comparable to the field data.
Quantifying water balance components is crucial to understanding the basic hydrology and hydrochemistry. An importance of water balace studies has been emphasized from the need to grasp the actual condition of water resources and environmental changes including climatic changes. This paper proposes a method for evaluating water balance components based on the vegetation monitor using remote sensing data. Here, the evapotranspiration model adopts a direct method by using NDVI(Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) calculated from NOAA/AVHRR data and a detailed descriptionof water balance by using the evapotranspiration over the Korean Peninsula. In the study, areal distribution data sets of water balance components are produced using NDVI and a simplified water balance model. This method enables one to discuss the hydrological problems for North Korea where insufficient meteorological and hydrological data exist. The results obtained indicate the specific regional features on water inventory and fluctuation in water balance.
The measurement of river discharge is among the most fundamental observations and is necessary for understanding many water-related issues, such as flooding hazards, sediment transportation, and nutrient movement. Traditionally river discharge is estimated by measuring the water stage and converting the measurement to discharge using a stage-discharge rating curve. The possibility of monitoring river discharge from satellites has been largely ignored, because it is difficult to measure water surface information from space with sufficient precision. In this paper, an efficient approach to discharge estimation using mainly satellite data is developed and described. The proposed method, which focuses on the measurement of water-surface width coupled with river width-stage and stage-discharge relationships, is applied to the Yangtze River with good results.
The rapid climatic changes being caused by global warming are resulting in abnormal weather conditions worldwide, which in some regions have increased the frequency of landslides. This study was aimed to analyze and compare the landslide susceptibility using the Frequency Ratio (FR), Statistical Index, Weight of Evidence, Certainty Factor, and Index of Entropy (IoE) at Woomyeon Mountain in South Korea. Through the construction of a landslide inventory map, 164 landslide locations in total were found, of which 50 (30%) were reserved to validate the model after 114 (70%) had been chosen at random for model training. The sixteen landslide conditioning factors related to topography, hydrology, pedology, and forestry factors were considered. The results were evaluated and compared using relative operating characteristic curve and the statistical indexes. From the analysis, it was shown that the FR and IoE models were better than the other models. The FR model, with a prediction rate of 0.805, performed slightly better than the IoE model with a prediction rate of 0.798. These models had the same sensitivity values of 0.940. The IoE model gave a specific value of 0.329 and an accuracy value of 0.710, which outperforms the FR model which gave 0.276 and 0.680, respectively, to predict the spatial landslide in the study area. The generated landslide susceptibility maps can be useful for disaster and land use planning.
Soil moisture is essential information for meteorological and hydrological analyses. To date, many efforts have been made to achieve the two goals for soil moisture data, i.e., the improvement of accuracy and resolution, which is very challenging. We presented an ensemble downscaling method for quality improvement of gridded soil moisture data in terms of the accuracy and the spatial resolution by the integration of BMA (Bayesian model averaging) and ATPRK (area-to-point regression kriging). In the experiments, the BMA ensemble showed a 22% better accuracy than the data sets from ESA CCI (European Space Agency-Climate Change Initiative), ERA5 (ECMWF Reanalysis 5), and GLDAS (Global Land Data Assimilation System) in terms of RMSE (root mean square error). Also, the ATPRK downscaling could enhance the spatial resolution from 0.25° to 0.05° while preserving the improved accuracy and the spatial pattern of the BMA ensemble, without under- or over-estimation. The quality-improved data sets can contribute to a variety of local and regional applications related to soil moisture, such as agriculture, forest, hydrology, and meteorology. Because the ensemble downscaling method can be applied to the other land surface variables such as temperature, humidity, precipitation, and evapotranspiration, it can be a viable option to complement the accuracy and the spatial resolution of satellite images and numerical models.
The techniques of GIS and remote sensing are being applied to hydrology, geomorphology and various field of studies are performed by many researcher, related those techniques. In this paper, curve number change detection is tested according to soil map and land cover in mountain area. Neural networks method is applied for land cover classification and GIS for curve number calculation. The first, sample area are selected and tested land cover classification, NN(84.1%) is superior to MLC(80.9%). So we selected NN with land cover classifier. The second, curve number from the land cover by neural network classifier(57) is compared with that(curve number) from the land cover by manual work(55). Two values are so similar. The third, curve number classified by NN in sample area was applied and tested to whole study area. As results of this study, it is shown that curve number is more exact and efficient by using NN and GIS technique than by (using) manual work.
In this study, we performed verification of VSRF (Very Short Range Forecast of precipitation) model and application of NWSPC (National Weather Service PC) rainfall-runoff model in Kyoungan-chun basin. We used two methods for verification of VSRF model. The first method is a meteorological verification that evaluates the special quality feature for rain amount between AWS and VSRF model over Kyoungan-chun basin, while second method is a hydrological verification that compares the calculated Mean Area Precipitation (MAP) between AWS and VSRF Quantitatively. This study examines the usefulness of VSRF precipitation forecasting model data in NWSPC hydrological model. As a result, correlation coefficient is over 0.6 within 3 hour lead time. It represents that the forecast results from VSRF are useful for water resources application.

Hydrological models are tools intended to realistically represent the basin's complex system in which hydrological characteristics result from a number of physical, vegetative, climatic, and anthropomorphic factors. Spatially distributed hydrological models were first developed in the 1960s, Remote sensing(RS) data and Geographical Information System(GIS) play a rapidly increasing role in the field of hydrology and water resources development. Although very few remotely sensed data can applied in hydrology, such information is of great. One of the greatest advantage of using RS data for hydrological modeling and monitoring is its ability to generate information in spatial and temporal domain, which is very crucial for successful model analysis, prediction and validation. In this paper, SLURP model is selected as semi-distributed hydrological model and MODIS Leaf Area Index(LAI), Normalized Difference Vegetation Index(NDVI) as Remote sensing input data to hydrological modeling of Kyung An-chen basin. The outlet of the Kyung An stage site was simulated, We evaluated two RS data, based on ability of SLURP model to simulate daily streamflows, and How the two RS data influence the sensitivity of simulated Evapotranspiration.
This paper reflects the estimation of using the EOC(Electro-optical Camera) images supporting GIUH(geomorphological instantaneous unit hydrograph) approach. We have analyzed GIUH in its density and frequency distribution by creating a DEM(digital elevation model) for the sub basin produced from the EOC images and examined topographical and hydrological application possibility of the EOC images. In this process, we have topographical basin characteristic analysis that use the remote sensing technique analyzing the DEM creation process of the EOC stereo images by studying the basic topographical hydrology analysis about abstraction technique since it is flirty complex and is more time-consuming than other method. we executed statistical analysis of a basin size and river length using the frequency function after divided lattice spacing applied have to the sub river basin from the image data and the digital map into 10m intervals ranging from 10m to 100m. After comparing and examining the peak and time to peak of the GIUH, we proceeded with a comparative analysis by lattice concerning the topographical divergence rate, area ratio, length ratio. Accumulating the peak and time to peak of the GIUH is altered to non-linear form in accordance to lattice dimension as well as basin factor. It was proved that the lattice dimension is one of the important factors about the peak and time to peak of the GIUH.
The application of satellite imageries has increased in the field of hydrology and water resources in recent years. However, challenges have been encountered on obtaining accurate evapotranspiration and soil moisture. Therefore, present researches have emphasized the necessity to obtain estimations of satellite-based evapotranspiration and soil moisture with related development researches. In this study, we presented the research status in Korea by investigating the current trends and methodologies for evapotranspiration and soil moisture. As a result of examining the detailed methodologies, we have ascertained that, in general, evapotranspiration is estimated using Energy balance models, such as Surface Energy Balance Algorithm for Land (SEBAL) and Mapping Evapotranspiration with Internalized Calibration (METRIC). In addition, Penman-Monteith and Priestley-Taylor equations are also used to estimate evapotranspiration. In the case of soil moisture, in general, active (AMSR-E, AMSR2, MIRAS, and SMAP) and passive (ASCAT and SAR)sensors are used for estimation. In terms of statistics, deep learning, as well as linear regression equations and artificial neural networks, are used for estimating these parameters. There were a number of research cases in which various indices were calculated using satellite-based data and applied to the characterization of drought. In some cases, hydrological cycle factors of evapotranspiration and soil moisture were calculated based on the Land Surface Model (LSM). Through this process, by comparing, reviewing, and presenting major detailed methodologies, we intend to use these references in related research, and lay the foundation for the advancement of researches on the calculation of satellite-based hydrological cycle data in the future.
