  • The Satellite Technology Research Centre (SaTReC), Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) has developed and is to launch STSAT-1 (Science and Technology Satellite - 1) on 27$^{th}$ September 2003. The data collection system (DCS) is the one of its payloads. The DCS is a data relay system used for transmission from ground-based sensors through satellite to receiving station. This is one of the important methods collecting global data from the remote locations. In this paper, the DCS on the STSAT-1 will be introduced and the development of the mobile terminal (MT) will be reported.

  • In this research, the WEF AX and APT(Automatic Picture Transmission) data receiving and image processing software using PC/AT called WADIPS(WEFAX and APT Data Integrated Processing System) Software has been developed. The main functions of WADIPS software are follow : 1) Real time receiving and saving to hard disk of WEFAX and APT data 2) B/W(Black and White) and false color display 3) Image enhancement using histogram stretch and color control 4) 2-4 times zooming 5) Hard copy of data using dithering and patterning 6) Animation 7) File management 8) On line help. WADIPS can be used in the offices or persons need real time meteorological information and education offices to teach the image processing technique and general characteristics of meteorological satellites.

  • In this research, a transmission control unit was developed for a wheel loader on the basis of 16-bit microcontroller system. The TCU has the basic functions which include shifting control algorithm, actuation of six proportional solenoid valves, signal conditioning for four speed sensors, remote data monitoring capability with RF-module and duty cycle identification system which could identify the duty cycles from PWM signals. In order to design the control system, the overall transmission structure of the wheel loader was investigated and its characteristics of shifting were analyzed in advance. For the purpose of identifying the existing control algorithm and acquire some information about the shifting performance, the shifting experiments were performed for various shifting conditions with the conventional TCU. From the previous work on the conventional TCU, the shifting scheme was designed with the open-loop control which is based on the experimental data only to verify the feasibility of the developing TCU's shilling capability. The experimental results show comparable shifting characteristics to that of conventional TCU though the tests were performed at restricted shilling conditions. Hence, we could have the confidence for the development of the wheel loader automatic transmission TCU and its shifting quality could be improved with the adoption of appropriate feedback control scheme.

USN 기반의 무선 멀티 커뮤니케이션 회로 설계 및 구현 (Design and Implementation of Wireless Multicommunication Circuit Based On USN)

  • 본 논문에서는 RFID와 무선 통신 기술인 ZigBee를 통합하여 원격지 디바이스들을 원격 제어 가능한 무선 통신 회로를 설계하고 구현하였다. 본 시스템은 송신부와 수신부가 통합되었으며, RFID 태그의 데이터를 인식한 후, 인식된 데이터는 MCU에 의해 제어되며 ZigBee를 통해 원격지 디바이스에 전송되어 TinyOS 상에서 작동한다. 만약 이 시스템을 건물 출입 보안 시스템에 적용하면 출입 허가 여부뿐만 아니라 개인용 컴퓨터나 기타 전자 장치들을 제어할 수 있다. 실험 결과, 개방된 운동장과 한정된 공간과는 인식 데이터 전송이 확연히 다름을 알 수 있다. 데이터 전송 시간은 건물 내부에서 더 안정적이고 데이터 전송 거리에서는 외부에서 더 멀었다. 구현된 시스템은 Wired LAN이나 IEEE 802.11x 계열의 WLAN과 결합하여 사무실 중심의 각종 영역에 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

DMB+, a General Data Transmission Technique

  • Developed from Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB), DMB+ changes the application focus fundamentally. The plus symbol "+" indicates that DMB+ is no longer for digital radio/videos, instead it works as a general data transmission technique. The merits of wireless transmission, broad coverage, high quality, information security and low building/maintenance cost make DMB+ suitable for a wide range of applications with numerous terminals and users, such as public information release, alarm and administration etc. The concept of DMB+ base station enables DMB+ to be used in building independent networks and for remote control and management, as well as for Industry 4.0. DMB+ will access into a new field that till now has been dominated by communication techniques, will open a huge commercial opportunity.

  • This paper porposes and efficient coding scheme for remote medical communication systems, or“telemedicine systems”. These systems require a technique which is able to transfer large volume of data such as X-ray images effectively. We have already developed a hierarchical image coding and transmission scheme (HITS), which achieves an efficient transmission of medical images simply[1]. In this paper, a new coding scheme for HITS is proposed, which used hierarchical context modeling for the purpose of improving the coding efficiency. The hierarchical context modeling divides wavelet coefficients into several sets by the value of a correspondent coefficient in their higher class, or“a parent”, optimizes a Golomb-Rice (GR) code parameter in each set, and then encodes the coefficients with the parameter. Computer simulation shows that the proposed scheme is effective with simple implementation. This is due to fact that a wavelet coefficient has dependence on its parent. As a result, high speed data transmission is achieved even if the telemedicine system consists of simple personal computers.

Control of mobile robot system with wireless transmission of image information.

  • There are various researches on mobile robot systems. Connection method between server and client of mobile robot system is one of them. In the case of mobile robot system, when connection method between server and client is wireless than wire, applications may be expanded. Also in remote monitoring environment using mobile robot system, we are interested in an effective transmission of the image information between server and client. In this paper, Bluetooth is used for connection method between server and client. One of the major applications of Bluetooth is the cable replacement for mobile and peripheral devices. Using Bluetooth, we propose the control method of mobile robot system. Bluetooth offers fast and reliable transmissions of both voice and data over the globally available 2.4GHz ISM (Industrial, Scientific and Medical) band. It has the advantage of small size, low power and low cost. It has the disadvantage of limited range and limited bandwidth. Also in order to transfer effectively image information between remote site(server) and mobile robot system(client) using Bluetooth, we applied to MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 image compression techniques and the results are compared with each other.

무선 전송 장치를 이용한 열차정보 수집 장치 개선 방안에 관한 연구 (A Study for Application of Train Information Collection Device using RTD System)

  • 현대의 도시철도차량 시스템은 복잡하고 첨단화 되어 있으며, 상호 인터페이스 체계를 구축하고 있는 차량 유지보수시스템의 체계적인 종합관리가 필요하다. 본 연구는 무선 전송 장치를 이용하여 전동차 정보 자동 수집 장치를 도입 적용한 사례에 대한 분석 결과이다. 무선 전송 장치는 차량기지로 입고한 전동차 열차종합 제어장치에 수집된 각종 정보를 무선 통신으로 데이터를 전송함으로써 유지보수 비용절감과 데이터 전송의 신뢰성 향상 효과가 있으며 이러한 무선 전송 장치를 도입 적용하여 기존의 열차정보수집 방법을 개선한 운용 사례를 제시한다.

Application of Principal Components Analysis Method to Wireless Sensor Network Based Structural Monitoring Systems

  • Typical wireless sensor networks used in structural monitoring are continuous types wherein data transmission is progressive at all time that may include irrelevant and insignificant data and information. Continuous types of wireless monitoring systems often pose problems of handling large-sized data that may deteriorate the performance of the system. The proposed method is to suggest an event-triggered monitoring system that captures and transmits relevant data only. An error signal generated by the Principal Components Analysis (PCA) is utilized as an index for event detection and selective data transmission. With this new monitoring scheme, the remote server is relieved of unwanted data by receiving only relevant information from the wireless sensor networks. The performance of the proposed scheme was verified with simulation studies.

  • 체내에 이식되는 완전 이식형 인공중이 시스템의 제어를 위해 저전력 마이크로프로세서인 MSP430을 이용한 적외선 리모컨형 외부제어기를 설계하였고, 수신된 신호 해석을 위한 제어 알고리즘을 설계하여 전원 ON/OFF와 소리크기 UP/DOWM 동작을 수행하도록 하였다. 먼저 피부 투과시 발생하는 적외선 신호의 반사 및 투과모델을 이용하여 시스템에 필요한 적외선 LED 방사강도를 계산하고, 인반 적외선 리모컨과의 오작동을 방지하기 위해 고유의 데이터 프로토콜을 설정하였다. 이식되는 수신부의 적외선 수신모듈은 자체 소비전류를 줄이기 위해 마이크로프로세서의 내부 타이머에 의한 25% 듀티비를 갖는 출력신호를 전원으로 사용하였다. 4mm 두께의 돼지피부를 이용한 피부투과 전송실험을 실시하여 구현된 송수신 장치로 신호가 전달됨을 확인하였다.
