  • The technology convergence of television, communication, and computing devices enables the rich social and entertaining experience through Smart TV in personal living space. The powerful smart TV computing platform allows to provide various user interaction interfaces like IR remote control, web based control, body gesture based control, etc. The presently used smart TV interaction user control methods are not efficient and user-friendly to access different type of media content and services and strongly required advanced way to control and access to the smart TV with easy user interface. This paper propose the optical wireless communication (OWC) based remote controller design for Smart TV using smart device Flashlights. In this approach, the user smart device act as a remote controller with touch based interactive smart device application and transfer the user control interface data to smart TV trough Flashlight using visible light communication method. The smart TV built-in camera follows the optical camera communication (OCC) principle to decode data and control smart TV user access functions according. This proposed method is not harmful as radio frequency (RF) radiation does it on human health and very simple to use as well user does need to any gesture moves to control the smart TV.

  • The teleoperation system applies all of the industrial fields due to the development of the network infrastructure. It is one of the indispensable elements for controlling the robot at a remote sight and monitoring the limit or unknown environment. The common teleoperation robot system is what has the visual module to supply the network system and realistic UI to the existed robot system. Therefore, remarked that the fusion between modules and transmission of visual data the remarked the important element to improve the robot application in the various environments. Delay of development time by robot platform and noneffective communication among developers are also problem to approach. In this paper we propose the independent teleoperation system. The main application language is JAVA in this system, which is applied JAVA API like JNI and JMF to construct the effective teleoperation system. The system has the both side communication system between sever and client as a basic structure. The visual data that is attached the robot at a remote sight is captured by JMF API and then is transmitted to the web browser called client by RTR protocol. JNI is used to connect between JAVA and the lower part application (sensor fusion, motion control.) of the robot programmed by various Native languages. The proposed system is the application that can perform the elements, for instance transmission of visual data, the fusion of various native application modules and the effective network communication, with any platform.

  • This paper introduces an approach to the realization of an ICT-based bridge remote monitoring system that enables real-time monitoring and controlled adjustments for unexpected heavy loads and also for damaging earthquakes or typhoons. In this paper, an integrated bridge remote monitoring system called the "Intelligent Bridge", which consists of a stand-alone monitoring system (SMS) and a web-based Internet monitoring system(IMS), was developed for not only bridge maintenance but also as an application for a para-stressing bridge system. To verify the possibility of controlling the actual structural performance of an "Intelligent Bridge", a model 2-span continuous cable-stayed bridge with adjustable cables was constructed. The experimental results demonstrate that the implemented monitoring system supplies detailed and accurate information about bridge behaviour for further evaluation and diagnosis, and it also opens up prospects for future application of a web-based remote system to actually adjust in-service bridges under field conditions.

  • This paper introduces computer based practice for engineering education through using NI-ELVIS and virtual instruments of LabVIEW as application software. Different laboratory experiments "Labs" will be presented as convenient paradigms of adopting computer based practice for the efficacy of engineering education. Remote labs as web/internet or network-enabled controlled by remote server computer have been extensively used by a number of universities, national laboratories and companies for different kind of application around the globe. Overtime, as technology proceed in its progress, more developed techniques are being used particularly in the field of engineering education.

  • This paper is concerned with the development of PCS(Platform for Collaborative System), which is a platform for development of remote collaborative experiment systems. Platform does not aim at the development of special-domain applications. This system implies the common development environments which can develop all-domain applications. PCS consists of collaborative experimental objects such as communication, session, user, application, media, message object and management objects that have management functions. Management objects are made up of collaborative experimental objects and operations which manipulate control information and data. It also supports application sharing for making single user interface of experimental applications to multi-user interface. Application sharing also supports instruments control on the remote site. PCS platform supports total environments for remote collaborative experiment and can be used as infrastructure to all kinds of collaboratory systems.

  • UPnP AV Framework automatically integrates and manages various AV devices that are connected to network as an important component in home network. Therefore, user can access and control AV contents at any time. But, other existing home entertainment systems target multimedia service support that is based on multimedia home server system. In this paper, we propose an integrated home entertainment system (u-MUSE system) that supports remote control service. It can manage application in remote AV device or control AV contents directly in home network environment. The proposed system sufficiently performs role of control center for electronic devices in home via integrated system control and AV contents playback service.

  • This paper presents the development of a knowledge-based control system operating via the Internet. With the synergy provided by the Internet, the central expert controller with its knowledge-base has the potential to serve a multitude of front-end clients located anywhere in the world provided they have Internet access. In this way, the operational span of the knowledge-based control system can be expanded to virtually anyplace within the reach of the Internet. This configuration has positive implications in improving the efficiency of distributed operations, thereby enabling plantwide optimization and costs savings. Datasocket technology is adopted to facilitate a more efficient data exchange between the knowledge-based central server and the front-end clients. A specific application in the remote monitoring and fault diagnosis of machines using the proposed control configuration is presented in the paper.

  • KOMPSAT-1 was launched on 21 December, 1999 and the main mission of the satellite is the cartography to provide the imagery from a remote earth view for the production of maps of Korean territory. For this purpose, the satellite has capability to tilt the spacecraft utmost $\pm$45 degrees to acquire stereo satellite imagery in different paths. This study aims to estimate the three dimensional positioning accuracy of stereo satellite imagery from EOC(electro-optical camera), a payload of KOMPSAT-1 satellite. For this purpose, the ground control points and check points were obtained by GPS surveying. The sensor modeling and the adjustment was performed by PCI software installed in KARI (Korea Aerospace Research Institute), which contained mathematical analysis module for KOMPSAT-1 EOC. The study areas were Taejon and Nonsan, placed in the middle part of Korea. As a result of this study, we found that the RMSE(root mean square error) value of three dimensional positioning KOMPST-1 stereo imagery can be less than 1 pixel (6.6 m) if we can use about 10 GCPs(ground control points). Then, a standarrd of FGDC (Federal Geographic Data Committee) of USA was applied to the result to estimate the three dimensional positioning accuracy of KOMPSAT-1 stereo imagery.

  • In this paper, the relationship between a slave robot and the uncertain remote environment is modeled as the impedance to generate the virtual force to feed back to the operator. For the control of a tele-operated mobile robot equipped with camera, the tele-operated mobile robot take pictures of remote environment and sends the visual information back to the operator over the Internet. Because of the limitation of communication bandwidth and narrow view-angles of camera, it is not possible to watch the environment clearly, especially shadow and curved areas. To overcome this problem, the virtual force is generated according to both the distance between the obstacle and robot and the approaching velocity of the obstacle. This virtual force is transferred back to the master over the Internet and the master(two degrees of freedom joystick), which can generate force, enables a human operator to estimate the position of obstacle in the remote environment. By holding this master, in spite of limited visual information, the operator can feel the spatial sense against the remote environment. This force reflection improves the performance of a tele-operated mobile robot significantly.
