A Study on Pedestrian Priority Actuated Signal Control Considering Waiting Time for Walking and Pedestrian Stress (보행대기시간과 보행자스트레스를 고려한 보행자우선 감응신호 운영방안 연구)

  • Since the operation of an reft-turn actuated signal driven mainly by vehicles may increase the waiting time for walking, this signal causes inconvenience or stress to pedestrians. Therefore, in this study, the change in waiting time for walking before and after the application of an reft-turn actuated signal and the stress on the pedestrians were investigated through a questionnaire. The investigation showed that the waiting time for walking increased by 37% during non-peak time. Also the waiting time for walking of 62.1% of pedestrians became longer and 78% of them were stressed because of it. Meanwhile, simulation(VISSIM) showed that the vehicle travel speed slightly decreased to 1.07km/h(a 2.5% decrease), and the average waiting time for walking decreased by 15.51sec(a 28% decrease) with a pedestrian priority actuated signal. Therefore, it is expected that the pedestrian priority actuated signal can reduce the waiting time for walking and relieve pedestrian stress.

Stiffened Effect of Knee Brace of Cross-Beam in Steel Box-girder Bridges (강박스거더교 가로보 니브레이스(Knee Brace)의 보강효과)

  • Recently, a knee brace is usually installed in connection between cross-beam and main-girder of steel box-girder bridges. The knee brace is installed as a structural stiffener and mainly aims to relieve stress at joints and to prevent main-girder from lateral deformation. However, research on the knee brace is insufficient to obviously evaluate the necessity. The stiffened effect of knee brace is determined by using finite element analyses. Stress distribution, stress level of members and deflection of the cross-beam are evaluated by parametric FE analysis for the installation of knee brace and the depth ratio of cross-beam/steel box girder. It is seen from comparison of numerical analysis results that the knee brace installed in cross-beam of steel boxgirders bridges is not efficient as a structural stiffener with respect to stress relief and stiffened effect.

A Study of nurses' working stress, child-rearing stress and parenting attitude (간호사의 업무스트레스와 양육스트레스 및 양육태도에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to describe working stress, child-rearing stress and parenting attitude of nurses who have preschool children. Methods: Data were collected by questionnaires from 136 nurses in three university hospital in 2011, and analyzed by the SPSS 12.0 program. Results: Nurses scored 3.48 points on average in working stress, 2.47 points in child-rearing stress, 3.61 points in parenting attitude. According to analysis on working stress depending on general demographic characteristics showed significant differences in workplace, monthly weekend duty frequency and in child-rearing stress depending on husband's age, wife's age, total income, marital period, satisfaction at relationship with husband, working career, number of children, and a person who cares for their children. According to parenting attitude depending on general demographic characteristics showed significant differences in working condition, marital period, position, working conditions, marital period, workplace, monthly weekend duty frequency. Correlations among nurses' working stress, child-rearing stress and parenting attitude, nurses' working stress had significantly correlations with parenting stress. Conclusion: Results of the study provides data on nursing interventions to relieve nurses from their working stress and child-rearing stress and to promote favorable child parenting attitude.

LC-MS-based metabolomic analysis of serum and livers from red ginseng-fed rats

  • Serum and liver metabolites in rats fed red ginseng (RG) were analyzed by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry. The mass data were analyzed by partial least squares-discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) to discriminate between control and RG groups and identify metabolites contributing to this discrimination. The RG group was clearly separated from the control group on PLS-DA scores plot for serum samples, but not liver samples. The major metabolites contributing to the discrimination included lipid metabolites (lysophosphatidylcholine, acyl-carnitine, and sphingosine), isoleucine, nicotinamide, and corticosterone in the serum; the blood levels of all but isoleucine were reduced by RG administration. Not all metabolites were positively correlated with the health benefits of RG. However, the blood levels of lysophosphatidylcholine, which stimulate various diseases, and long-chain acylcarnitines and corticosterone, which activate the stress response, were reduced by RG, suggesting long-term RG might relieve stress and prevent physiological and biological problems.

  • Objective : The aim of this study is identify major trend and characteristics of studies on aromatherapy in Korea. Methods : We searched the three electronic database(RISS, NDSL, KTKP) and manually checked related Korean journals and reference lists 2000 up to June 2014. The studies were analyzed based on publication year, type of paper, intervention method, type of disease, type of aroma. Results : We included 79 articles in this study. 1. 5 papers were published annually on average. 2. After classifying papers by the speciality of thesis and journal, continuous study was followed not only nursing, but also in many specialities like alternative medicine, korean medicine. 3. Aroma therapy is effect of stress, anxiety, insomnia. 4. Many used interventions are inhalation. 5. The most commonly used in aromatherapy is lavender. Conclusions : These results suggest that Aromatherapy research is insufficient in korean medicine. But more research is needed to relieve stress, anxiety in the future.

Analyzing the Features and Control Factors of Headache among High School Students (남녀 고등학생의 두통 양상과 조절요인 분석)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the features and the control factors of headache among high school students. Methods: Data were collected from 120 high school students who suffered headache over one time per a year. The gathered data were analysed with frequency, t-test, ANOVA and $X^2$-test using SPSS 14.0 Program. Results: There were no significant differences in the frequency and the intensity of headache according to general characteristics except status of family economy and the perceived satisfaction of schoolwork achievement and no significant difference were observed in the features and the control factors according to the gender. The main cause of headache of the high school students were stress and the lack of sleep. Conclusion: These results suggest the need to develop a program that would help students relieve schoolwork stress which would help preventing the major cause of headaches for high school students.

A Study on the Healing Interface around Void space of Contemporary Houses (현대주택의 허공간 주변의 치유적 인터페이스에 관한 연구)

  • Purpose: Planning space of the house is important as a universal place to relieve stress of contemporary people. Void space is easy to perform mental and cultural programs in aspect of affording the healing behavior. The "Interface" accommodates healing behaviors through mutual interchange between void space and solid space as the edge of the solid space around void space. This study presents a efficient theory of healing space through combining space theory with the Kitwood's theory of psychiatry used for the art therapy. Methods: Spatial elements based on Kitwood's theory converges towards 2 behavioral elements; Meditation(-), Sense of Community(+). Balancing with reciprocal complement between behaviors of passive and stable "Meditation(-)" and active and released "Sense of Community(+)" was analysed. Results: "Faciliation" can be used in combination with "Flow(+)" as active factor. "Validation" is combined with "Prospect(+,-)", and divides into 2 factor ; "Recognition-Refreshment(-)", "Reaction-Social Exchange(+)". "Holding" is combined with "Refuge(-)" as passive factor. Implications: This study established concept of spatial healing elements in connection with theory of Psychiatry about Alzheimer that is extreme situation of stress. This study is expected to enhance the validity and efficiency in analysis of healing space.

Analytical solutions for sandwich plates considering permeation effect by 3-D elasticity theory

  • In this paper, an exact analytical solution for simply supported sandwich plate which considers the permeation effect of adhesives is presented. The permeation layer is described as functionally graded material (FGM), the elastic modulus of which is assumed to be graded along the thickness following the exponential law. Based on the exact three-dimensional (3-D) elasticity theory, the solution of stresses and displacements for each layer is derived. By means of the recursive matrix method, the solution can be efficiently obtained for plates with many layers. The present solution obtained can be used as a benchmark to access other simplified solutions. The comparison study indicates that the finite element (FE) solution is close to the present one when the FGM layer in the FE model is divided into a series of homogeneous layers. However, the present method is more efficient than the FE method, with which the mesh division and computation are time-consuming. Moreover, the solution based on Kirchhoff-Love plate theory is greatly different from the present solution for thick plates. The influence of the thickness of the permeation layer on the stress and displacement fields of the sandwich plate is discussed in detail. It is indicated that the permeation layer can effectively relieve the discontinuity stress at the interface.

Comparison of Factors influencing Depression between Non-Multicultural and Multicultural Middle School Students (비다문화 중학생과 다문화 중학생의 우울 관련 요인 비교)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the factors related to depression between non-multicultural and multicultural middle school students. Methods: In this study, data were collected using structured questionnaires targeting students of 9 middle schools in G Province, Korea. Finally, the data of 304 students were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression analyses using SPSS 24.0. Results: The multicultural students showed a higher depression score ($47.14{\pm}8.33$) than the counterpart ($44.22{\pm}8.11$) (p<.001). The results of the multiple regression analysis revealed that academic stress (${\beta}=.33$, p<.001), peer attachment (${\beta}=-.13$, p<.02), and body image (${\beta}=.25$, p<.001) were the influencing factors on depression in non-multicultural students. However, in multicultural students, depression was related to peer attachment (${\beta}=-.16$, p=.03) and self-esteem (${\beta}=-.42$, p<.001). Conclusion: To prevent and manage depression in non-multicultural middle school students, it is essential to help them relieve academic stress and build peer relationships and positive body image. For multicultural middle school students, helping them to have high self-esteem and peer attachment would be the first measure to prevent and manage depression.

Microstructure-Properties Relationships of Ti-6Al-4V Parts Fabricated by Selective Laser Melting

  • This work investigates the relationships between the static mechanical properties of Ti-6Al-4V manufactured through selective laser melting (SLM) and post-process heat treatments, namely stress relieve, annealing and hot isostatic pressing (HIP). In particular, Ti-6Al-4V parts were fabricated in three different build orientations of X, Z, and $45^{\circ}$ to investigate the multi-directional mechanical properties. The results showed that fully densified Ti-6Al-4V parts with densities of up to 99.5% were obtained with optimized SLM parameters. The microstructure of stress relieved and mill annealed samples was dominated by fine ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ martensitic needles. After HIP treatment, the martensite structure was fully transformed into ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ phases (${\alpha}+{\beta}$ lamellar). Within the realm of tensile properties, the yield and ultimate strength values were found statistically similar with respect to the built orientation for a given heat treatment. However, the ductility was found orientation dependent for the HIP samples, where a lower value was observed for samples built in the X direction.
