  • The possibility of an active-matrix carbon nanotube field emission display (AM-CNT FED) is discussed from the view points of display performance and cost. The critical issues for FED commercialization such as anode acceleration voltage, uniformity, stability and reliability can be solved through our AM-CNT FED technologies.

Design of ramp-stress accelerated life test plans for a parallel system with two independent components using masked data

  • In this paper, we have formulated optimum Accelerated Life Test (ALT) plan for a parallel system with two independent components using masked data with ramp-stress loading scheme and Type-I censoring. Consider a system of two independent and non-identical components connected in parallel. Such a system fails whenever all of its components has failed. The exact component that causes the system to fail is often unknown due to cost and time constraint. For each parallel system at test, we observe its system's failure time and a set of component that includes the component actually causing the system to fail. The stress-life relationship is modelled using inverse power law, and cumulative exposure model is assumed to model the effect of changing stress. The optimal plan consists in finding out the optimum stress rate using D-optimality criterion. The method developed has been explained using a numerical example and sensitivity analysis carried out.

측정표준의 국민경제 기여효과 분석 (Economic Effect of National Measurement Standards)

  • Measurement standards, as being widely recognized, is necessary for national economic development and advanced industrialization. Also measurement standards give reliability and fair trade to the producers and consumers. Macro-effect of measurement standards using estimation of cost function has four effects: 1) value-added causing effect, 2) effect of employment, 3) reduction effect transaction cost, 4) reduction effect defect rates. In this study, to investigate the impacts between specific and the other industries, we used I-O Table of Korea Bank. The relation between the value-added produced by original production factors and final use is determined through production level, and the relation can be investigated with production causing coefficient matrix. In this study, it was showed that the measurement standards investments including measurement only man power of industries were increased from 1995 rapidly. The establishment and maintenance of measurement standards contributes to reduce the defect rate of products in production process and improve the confidence of the product quality. The results from this study show that measurement technology contributes to improve quality, decrease defect rate, improve production process, develope new products, reduce prime cost and increase the consumer's confidence on the firms. Since these results indicate that measurement standards are very important in the point of their vast contribution, we hope our findings can contribute to encourage measurement activities in industries.

주배선반용 로봇 스위치 보드 시스템의 개발 (A Development of a Robotic Switch Board System for Main Distributing Frames)

  • A main distributing frame(MDF) is an interface unit that is used to connect office equipment cables in a telephone company to subscriber cables. Until now, there is no automated switching system for MDFs in Korea. Manual handling of an MDF has some drawbacks; It is time-consuming, very cumbersome, and expensive. It also makes maintenance hard. An automated main distributing frame system is proposed and commercialized in Japan. In that system, a robot gripper inserts connecting pins into the cross point holes of a matrix board, which reveals several disadvantages in the aspects of space, maintenance, fault tolerance, and economical efficiency. This paper describes a newly developed robotic switch board system for MDFs. In the developed system, switches are placed at the cross point of a matrix board. There is one robot in between two switch units, so one robot deals with two switch units. In the system, positioning the robot, opening and closing switches can be done by using only a pair of motors and a pair of solenoids. The newly developed system is compact in size, reduces cost, and shows high reliability.

  • In recent years, large volumes of data are transferred between a computer system and various subsystems through digital logic circuits and interconnected wires. And there always exist potential errors when data are transferred due to electrical noise, device malfunction, or even timing errors. In general, parity checking circuits are usually employed for detection of single-bit errors. However, it is not sufficient to enhance system reliability and availability for efficient error detection. It is necessary to detect and further correct errors up to a certain level within the affordable cost. In this paper, we report a generation of 3-distance code using the characteristic matrix of a PBCA.

  • This paper presents an improved algorithm of optimal measurement system design with a reliability evaluation method for large power system. The proposed algorithm is developed to consider the dummy bus and to achieve highest accuracy of the state estimator as well with the limited Investment cost. The dummy bus in the power system is impossible to install measurement meter, while real and reactive power measurement values are exactly zero. Thus, the effect on these dummy bus measurements is considered in the proposed algorithm. On the other hand, P/C model is developed by taking advantage of the matrix sparsity. The improved program is successfully tested for KEPCO system with PSS/E lineflow calculated data package.

  • Gate and data drivers are essential for driving active matrix display. In this study, we integrate drivers with a-Si:H to develop a compact, better reliability and cost effective display. We design and fabricate drivers with conventional a-Si:H thin film transistors (TFTs). The output voltages are investigated according to the input voltage, temperature and operation time. Based on these studies, we propose here a new driver to prevent gate line from the floated state. For the external coupled voltage fluctuation, the proposed driver shows better stability.

  • The fabrication methods and requirements of the fiber, interphase, and matrix of nuclear grade $SiC_f/SiC$ composites are briefly reviewed. A CVI-processed $SiC_f/SiC$ composite with a PyC or $(PyC-SiC)_n$ interphase utilizing Hi-Nicalon Type S or Tyranno SA3 fiber is currently the best combination in terms of the irradiation performance. We also describe important material issues for the application of SiC composites to LWR fuel cladding. The kinetics of the SiC corrosion under LWR conditions needs to be clarified to confirm the possibility of a burn-up extension and the cost-benefit effect of the SiC composite cladding. In addition, the development of end-plug joining technology and fission products retention capability of the ceramic composite tube would be key challenges for the successful application of SiC composite cladding.

다중 안테나 시스템을 위한 낮은 복잡도의 송/수신안테나 선택 알고리즘 (Low-complexity Joint Transmit/Receive Antenna Selection Algorithm for Multi-Antenna Systems)

  • MIMO(Multiple Input Multiple Output) 시스템에서 성능 향상을 위해 안테나의 수를 증가시킬 수 있으나 RF체인의 증가와 하드웨어의 복잡도에 의해 제한될 수 있다. 이때, RF 체인의 수를 고정시키고 그보다 많은 수의 안테나를 채용한 후, 승)수신 양단에서 채널 상태에 따라 동적으로 안테나를 선택함으로써 이와 같은 문제를 완화할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 전체 $M_R{\times}M_T$채널 이득 행렬에서 가장 큰 채널 이득을 갖는 송신 안테나와 수신안테나를 교차적으로 선택하여 Frobenius norm을 최대화하는 $M_R{\times}M_T$ 채널 행렬을 결정함으로써 송/수신 양단에서 안테나 선택을 동시에 수행하는 송/수신안테나 선택 알고리즘(joint Tx/Rx antenna selection algorithm)을 제안하며, exhaustive search를 통한 최적 방식과 비교할 때 현저하게 계산량을 줄일 수 있어 구현의 복잡도가 매우 낮은 것이 특징이다. $8{\times}8$ 안테나에서 $4{\times}4$ 안테나를 선택하는 경우 성능면에 있어서는 기존의 최적 방식인 exhaustive search 방식에 비해 $0.5{\sim}2dB$가량의 성능 열화가 있으나, 계산량에서는 약 1/10,000 단위로 복잡도를 감소시킬 수 있음을 예시한다.
